I've also tried calamari and their baked clams and I could do without these as well. I also tried their crab dip (but at the RVC location, menu can vary) and that was not good. I gave voodoo crab a few tries and I don't think it's bad but it's not great either. I would only suggest the happy hour menu + drinks. I haven't tried the seafood boils here (not super interesting to me) but maybe that's worth the money in the end. As a matter of fact, my group spoke afterwards about feeling as if the 2 chefs had had an argument before we entered because they appeared annoyed. With each other, with plating, with answering our questions... The host Jared was quite friendly and polite. He served the group well. Wine was requested and dispensed but again, not one explanation of where the wine came from, why it was chosen, etc. Interestingly we asked for a second bottle of a particular wine and he came back and said we'd been served the last of that bottle "but I brought you another Pinot". No reasoning as to why this was a worthy follow up or a similarly tasting wine. Nothing... With each course, we had to ask what it was. And if I asked what a particular garnish was or the preparation I was given a very evasive response. I've been to many Chef's Tasting Tables and this is obviously a comparison. While the bites were great, there was no Chef's table. The chef's barely spoke. The vessels for presentation were interesting although some were obviously chosen for the drama of the vessel not the function of the bite. Some of the standout dishes were: Dry aged beef; Wagyu; Hamachi and the Key Lime Mousse. I don't even like Key Lime Pie yet this bite was epic. I don't usually like eggplant so I didn't partake in the Eggplant Stack Alla Cirella's, but my coworkers enjoyed the crispy eggplant layered with fresh mozzarella, prosciutto, tomato, roasted red pepper drizzled with warm balsamic glaze. We had Greg as our server and I have to say, he really made our night. He checked in at all the right times without ever feeling intrusive and just had this great energy that set the tone for the whole evening. Honestly Greg alone is a reason to go back. My family and I are still reeling from our experience here this week. The food here is very good. We all agreed. Unfortunately, we also agreed that the "service" was about the worst we can remember having anywhere. Our server was a male, perhaps mid 40s, light hair, little ponytail, not very tall. We did not get his name. Right from the beginning we noticed something seemed off about him. He was rushing, was clearly agitated, aggressive, and rudely interrupted us when we attempted to ask questions. Appetizer salads arrived at our table even before we were finished ordering our dinners (we still had menus) and when we asked him to *please* slow down, that we wanted to enjoy the dinner, he raised his voice and got visibly angry. We saw him walk away, throw up his hands and shake his head, all in plain view of us. His behavior continued throughout our meal and made the entire experience so unpleasant and uncomfortable. When he brought over a bowl of soup, he said, very loud and sarcastically, "There's a spoon there for ya!" Honestly, he seemed so worked up, I was worried he was going to dump the thing in my lap. Dude clearly has issues he brought to work with him. We also noticed this person openly coughing into his hands, rubbing his nose, and then serving food to another table. (We did mention this to another server as that is pretty disgusting.) We were celebrating a birthday and when we came in we asked the host at the door to please put a candle in whatever dessert we ordered. We provided a bag with a candle. Well, we ordered dessert, but the candle was MIA. Nothing, nada. When we left, they gave us back the bag, but the candle was missing. (!) By this point we weren't even surprised. (And they told us the candle had been in the dessert. It definitely wasn't) One star is for the food, the other is for the kind woman with the long dark hair who also tended to our table for the first hour or so. This is clearly a nice restaurant with a good reputation and good food, but sadly, our visit was terrible; a very bad experience and one we wish we could forget.
