Not bad but I wouldn't go there again. The price for salad n entrees is pretty expensive compared to the places I went in Vegas. And in Vegas is an all you can eat seafood buffet for sixty something dollars & that includes lobster tails & shrimps. Even Salt Lake seafood buffet is better than Captain James when it comes to seafood because it's an all you can eat for a good price which I gave them a rating of 10 over 10. Captain James is okay if you want to spend that kind of prices, but as for me, I wouldn't go back unless they drop their prices big time. I give them a rating of 2 over 10. read more

I've always run/driven by this boat-shaped restaurant and now I finally got to go inside! I was pleasantly surprised by the interior (appropriately nicely nautical and well kept) and the nice view looking out onto the water (across the road). We were seated very quickly on a Sunday noon and service was pretty quick. Our portions were a good size and presentation was nice - my boyfriend and I split the Blue Crab Hash ($19) and French Toast ($6.75). Both dishes were tasty but I was slightly disappointed that there was not much crab at all in our Blue Crab Hash. We did buy a $11 for $30 groupon for our table of five so I'm glad I tried this place with that. Overall, good to try for more of a Baltimore-y thing occasionally. The salmon was cooked ok but bland. My daughter's seafood Alfredo was ok, but again the seafood was overcooked and under seasoned. Our bill was almost two hundred dollars with no beverages ordered not even soda. We were charged an additional $3.50 for requesting additional Alfredo sauce and 18% gratuity added into the final total. This food is extremely overpriced for the quality. Went here for restaurant week with some friends. The food was very filling. However because it was restaurant week there were no substitutions and certain things from the menu weren't available. I had a crab cake cream of crab soup and rice. I also had a drink. The prices were decent normal seafood range and the cream of crab was some of the best I've had. One of my friends got the calamari and he wasn't too impressed. This restaurant was recommended to me and my party by a secret service member that we met in DC earlier the day prior to our visit. My party of 3 ordered small plates/appetizers no entrees or desserts. The table had the Shrimp Boil, the Imperial Lump Crab stuffed mushrooms, and the garden salad with the spinach stuffed pastry. Greeted from the start walking in and lead us to a table with tables ready 30min before our reservation, which was great. The servers were fast and always kept your waters filled and followed up with questions if we needed anything. Come the food they came out in a timely manner. The sandwiches are filling and are at a reasonable price. The bathroom could use a major cleaning like others have mentioned. Overall I will continue to come back! Where do I begin? First time coming here, and it was not a good experience for any of us. Ordered the crab dip, and it was honestly the worst I've ever had. Actually sent it back. It was so fishy, and had a weird, dingy, off white color, had wayyyy too much Old Bay, was too spicy, and was oily. Was gonna just keep it and let everyone else eat it, but the whole table agreed it was nasty. Then I ordered a chicken Caesar salad and it had no actual shaved or shredded parmesan cheese on it, just the grated kind from a can, yet cost $20. They didn't have any good girly/fruity drinks to choose from, mostly wines. We really wanted something fozen, like a daiquiri. Our whole bill came to almost $240 for 4 people! They also added on an automatic gratuity for 4 people and the service sucked! Once our food came, we didn't see our server again for over 45 minutes. Didn't check on us once to see if we were good, needed refills, or anything. My husband had to finally flag her down. Was debating on getting the crabcake sandwich, but it was $41! For a SANDWICH not even a platter! Only thing that was halfway decent was my husband's burger, and even that didn't come with cheese, had to pay extra. I've been avoiding coming here because it seems like a tourist trap and I didn't expect the food to be that great, but after months of driving by on a daily basis and seeing their sign for lobster rolls, I finally caved. We got there around 7pm on a Wednesday and they unfortunately were sold out of lobster rolls. We probably should have just left then, but we decided to stick it out. I got the spicy crab pasta and my husband got the catch of the day which was mahi mahi. My crab pasta was indeed spicy but the spice was an attempt to cover up the taste of the crab which didn't seem very fresh. It just had a weird after taste. My husband's mahi mahi was a bit better. It had a mango salsa on it which had a good flavor, and although the fish itself wasn't particularly flavorful, it took on the flavor of the salsa. The cous cous was overly salty and just not good. My husband liked his drink, the high noon, which had patron in it. My guava sangria was a bit too sweet for me, but he liked it. This is a review for their TAKE-OUT. The dining room was closed due to COVID. Very friendly employees. Customer service over the phone was top-notch as well as in-person. Very social & friendly. Also the cashier and cooks were all wearing masks. They had street parking out-front so not bad. Parking wise. The interior of the place could use some more lighting though. Now for the good part. THE FOOD. Ordered a chicken cheese steak to take back to work. They are very very generous with the meats here. Unlike some places which load the subs up with lettuce and crap. They give you a decent amount of MEAT here which is a major plus. They were a little cheap on the amount of fries though. But the sub made up for it. Also the fact that the sub was under $8. They have won a customer for life. "As long as they don't increase their pricing. lol." The meat tasted fresh and the sub was hot. Totally Awesome. I thought I reviewed this place a while back but I didn't. Usually I stop here for a late night bite (if the adjacent sip and bite is too crowded). They have had a few groupons for this place. The last time I went we had crab fries which were amazing, it was waffle fries with crab dip, cheddar cheese, scallions and bacon. This was so good. It came with a side of ranch. This is how you eat a fry! I had the seafood cavatappi which was pretty tasty, my friend had the stuffed shrimp, we also had a mussels appetizer. It was mussels in a sauce with shrimp. The job gave us a crab face at this establishment. I went to get a draft beer and I'm just so thankful I was looking. The bartender took his finger and swiped it across the top of my cup to remove the foam. I asked him, did you just put your finger in my beer? He said yes. I told him you don't do stuff like that to people. I noticed a gentleman doing our time there that looked to be in charge. The garden salad excellent and fresh. My fried seafood platter was huge and awesome. My hubby had the trout with French fries and coleslaw. He said everything was great especially the coleslaw. My sister came up last weekend for my birthday and I told her I wanted to got to Baltimore for some crab legs. Well, I looked on yelp and picked Capt James Landing. To be clear, this is a review of the crab deck and not the boat restaurant across the street. I had some decent memories of having crabs at Captain James many years ago. It wasn't the best place for them but they were solid and the location is top notch. We came back this summer and were extremely disappointed. The crabs themselves were fine. Pricey, but it's an expensive summer for crabs. What's extremely obnoxious though is that you can't get a glass of water, only bottled. If you're paying twelve bucks for one crab they could give you a pitcher of water to go with them! In addition to the unnecessary water bottles everything else was served in disposable plastic. You'd think a restaurant that's sitting on a frequently trash-choked harbor might be a bit more conscientious, but no. I shudder to think how much garbage the average meal here generates. read more

I like this place! First of all, there is a PARKING LOT which is great in the city. It's a little confusing because there is a structure in the lot but the actual restaurant is across the street and shaped like a giant boat so you can't miss it. We started with the steamed shrimp and it was piping hot and perfectly seasoned with onions and potatoes. The cocktail sauce had a bit of kick, too. There were too many potatoes in my opinion but honestly, nothing wrong with that. I also wanted to try the fried tomatoes but found them to be too chewy and gummy. The breading was a little thick, also. For our entrees, we got the fish tacos and the seafood platter. The tacos were good but it came with chips but nothing to dip it in so that was a little odd. The platter was a great deal! Cluster of king crab were small but tasty, the shrimp were a little dry but I had just had the steamed version so I didn't mind. The salmon was also a little dry and bland, and the single scallop was also nice. The star was the mini crab cakes, and I loved the green beans and rice! Worth the price for sure! Came here for Sunday brunch with some friends because we had a groupon. The decor is cute and the service was good overall. The breakfast/brunch items are very reasonably priced (almost everything was under $10!). I got the early morning burger, which is a burger in between french toast. It was enjoyable, and heavy, as expected. Everyone enjoyed what they ordered, but the food is overall pretty average. First time to Baltimore. Visiting from Southern MD. My fiancé and I eat steamed crabs almost weekly. We decided to try this place for it's affordable AYCE steamed crabs. Was told they only had medium crabs today and we still wanted to try. Definitely was not fresh crabs. Of my first four, two were dry and had a tuna salad texture when I tasted the crab meat. My fiancé did not like any of crabs she had. We usually eat 18 each. We did not finish our first 12 total due to the nasty crab meat. When told this to our waitress she asked if this was our first time eating crabs. (very condescending) my fiancé's peach blossom drink was too sweet (lots of syrup) and was immediately noticed when she took her first sip. Usually places will comp meals if the Blue Crabs are found to be unsatisfactory and you can tell we didn't like these crabs. Instead we got a $138 bill with a mandatory $20 tip. I reccomend this restaurant at night because the lights on the ship make it so much cuter for pics. The restaurant is clean and the greeter in the front was very friendly and sat us down immediately, no wait time. The food was okay nothing that really wowed me but it wasn't bad. Unfortunately my waitress was very passive aggressive and distasteful. First off I asked for a drink to start out with and that drink never came. She apologized for the wait and stated that the bartenders is about to prepare it so I asked since it was not prepared yet , could she please change my drink to a wine and she told me she couldn't even though it wasn't prepared yet because then she would have to get a Manager to void the order and I kinda i insisted I really wanted to change my drink and she kept going back and forth and telling me how hard that would be. INSANE! They will not volunteer that info so just know what you're ordering. My friend and I both got the mussels in the white wine sauce with a side of fries for dipping. I thought they were good! She thought the sauce was a little thick. This is a Pepsi place, not Coke, which is always disappointing! Love me a diet coke. I would highly recommend making reservations .The restaurant has a limited amount of seating. I only noticed two areas in the restaurant for a table of two. We came because we had a Groupon that was about to expire. The coupon was a $80.00 dinner meal. Which we paid $43.00 for not a bad deal right. They automatically add 18% tip on your bill pre taxed. Just be aware because we was about to leave an additional tip until we saw that. The food was good. We started off with the Garlic mussels. Then we ordered the lamb chops. Very delicious and Tender. Captain James Landing is an institution, and deservedly so. The setting, ambience, and service is excellent, and so is the food. Dining on the landing is definitely not luxurious. It's more suited for the on the water crabs and beer crowd, but fits that niche very well. Good music, great food, waterside, and great service. What more could you want? Very limited food selection. crabs (Blue crabs and snow crabs) and shrimp, oysters, etc. all served on butcher paper. The crabs were "heavy", as my wife likes to say. The fries are great, and the corn on the cob is juicy. BUT, and this is why 4 stars instead of 5, it's pricy. 6 jumbo crabs, 1 1/2 lbs of snow crab, fries and 2 corn cobs, and a bottle of Chardonnay came to 229$, including their standard included 18% tip. LP Steamers can match their food for a lot less $$, but not the experience. But for special occasions, we'll worth it. read more

I was very happy with everything. We Called ahead and got reservations. When we sat, Greg the waiter helped us with specials. We ordered seafood nachos for apps. A daring request for any restaurant, since the sour cream is often warmer then the seafood in many places. In this case the toppings were hot and the dish was tasty. I often am against anything that mixes seafood with items in the dairy category with the exception to butter but this dish was very nice. Fresh chips, bigger shrimp pieces and I even tasted crab pieces a few times. As for the entrees Greg helped me decide between the shrimp salad sandwich, herb crusted Cod and the pub styles fish sandwich. He suggested the Cod, "A better cut of fish." So I ordered it. Then when the food was brought out, I noticed, there was nothing wrong, the fries were hot, the portions were large and the mouths were remarking the blessings of a good meal. As for my meal, Greg was right, this was a good plate, I am including the picture... The lemon which accompanied the dish worked perfectly with the roasted red potatoes and green beans. A delicious meal. One thing to note, my table ordered two beef dishes, (gasp), in a seafood restaurant, a bit of a naughty call. When the dishes came out, their food looked delicious. From the rack of ribs to the Reuben. In a way I wish I ordered theirs, but had no problem with mine as well.
