Well, I'm not sure that I've ever experienced a turnaround and complete need for a reevaluation of a restaurant the way I did at Marta tonight. As you can see from my previous review, we did not have the best experience the first time. But tonight was absolutely amazing. I think we must've just caught them on an off day the last time. This time everything was perfect. The entire staff was kind, warm, welcoming, and helpful. Our waitress, Greeta, was absolutely amazing. And when I say amazing, I mean really stupendous. We got the chicken fingers for my youngest daughter, and they came with a marinara sauce. But of course she wanted ketchup. We asked Greeta if they had any ketchup and as it turns out, they did not. But Greeta went to another restaurant nearby and brought back some packets of ketchup. If that isn't going above and beyond, then I don't know what is. The food was absolutely stellar. We got a lot of things and shared them, but some favorites even amongst all the deliciousness were the whipped ricotta, the Caesar salad, the chicken marsala, the diver scallop entrée, and the tuna appetizer. The cocktails and wine were also fabulous. Absolutely deserving of 5 stars and now we can't wait to go back! read more

SO GOOD. The food, the drinks, the vibes, everything about this place is perfect. It's got such a homey, local feel like an old sitcom has to it. I always sit at the bar when I come because it's always busy and I never remember to make a reservation lol. It's so fun watching the bartenders do their thing. I recently went to Marta hoping for a great experience. I saw the chef was recently nominated for the 2026 James Beard Award: Mid-Atlantic. Whenever I see a local restaurant/chef nominated for such an award, I try to get there to see what it is all about. Unfortunately, my first visit was not good. It began with our seating. For this outing, I was with my wife. We arrived and were immediately seated at a small two-seated table directly in front of the main entrance. The restaurant was extremely busy, and the table we were seated at was basically at the crossroads of all the traffic. Also, the location was very cramped and made it hard to move. With that, the worse of the problems was actually being so close to the main entrance on a cold evening. The door was constantly opening and closing allowing blasts of frigid air each time. That made our seating exceptionally uncomfortable. I can sometimes look past bad seating, understanding that it is important to get as many people in so the restaurant can make money. Many times great food can make up for shortcomings in other parts of a restaurant. Moreover, amazing service can really make me forget about those seating issues. To start, we got the Arancini Funghi appetizer. To my concern, it seemed to come out exceptionally fast: about 4-minutes after we ordered. And wouldn't you know it, the arancini was frozen most of the way through. It took a decent amount of time for the server to return, he was very nice, and took the frozen appetizer away. It took over 10-minutes for a new one to come out. At that point I was agitated. When I tried the new arancini appetizer that was brought out, it was cooked well, but had almost zero flavor. Needless to say, I was done for the night. After another long break of waiting for the server, who was very attentive to a four-top a few tables away, came back, I told him to cancel my order. My wife did get hers. Now, back to the service. We went for long intervals without our server coming to see how we were doing or trying to actually remedy the situation. He was constantly focused on the four-top that I guess was going to be the better tip. I guess since I had canceled my main course, he knew the tip would not be as good. In any case, the service was lackluster for the whole evening. My wife got the Ricotta Cavatelli that came with lobster. To me, it looked too soupy. She said it was a little soupy but was good. Personally, I did not try it and was ready to go. In the end, we were also charged for the arancini appetizer that had to be re-fired. I was not happy about that. If a restaurant makes a mistake, the customer should not be charged for it even if they receive a re-fired replacement. Our server, even though very nice, was not very attentive to us and more worried about a four-top. The frozen arancini was frustrating. The re-fired replacement was flavorless. Our table was in a terrible location and we were constantly blasted by gusts of cold air the whole time. In the end, the experience was not good. Will I return to give Marta a second chance? Yes. I don't like writing negative reviews, but the experience was bad enough for me to write one. When I return, and the experience is much better, I will write a new positive review. Recently moved to Baltimore and had to check out Marta. They were pretty busy on a weekday night which is not surprising given the recent James Beard nom. Our server was great- funny, helpful, and engaging. Food was beautiful and tasty! We all really enjoyed the apps we picked out, especially the beet carpaccio and the caesar salad. For main dishes, the pastas (truffle and bolognese) were delicious. Pasta was perfectly cooked and the sauces were balanced and flavorful. I particularly loved the truffle pasta. The parmigiano zabaglione was like a parm cream sauce on top... so good. Espresso martini was a great way to end the meal. read more

We went here for our wedding anniversary yesterday and honestly the food was very delicious. Loved the tuna cannoli, both pasta dishes and the desserts were incredible. Only taking a star down for a couple reasons. We put in the reservation it was our anniversary when it asked special occasion and it was not acknowledged once. Portion of my entree (short rib ravioli) was on the smaller side and we did wait 15 mins to get our check after we finished dessert. Our server was very knowledgeable and helpful but he did get busy as the night went on so probably not his fault. I must say the tiramisu was 10/10 best I've had. Decent experience overall, but not great. Food and drinks weren't bad for the most part, but I'll just list the negatives so you know why this place is not the 5-star restaurant you are looking for. 1. Not only was my starter plate dirty with multiple specks of someone else's old food on it, but so was my spouse's. I didn't raise a stink, I just politely pointed that out to the server who promptly brought out two other (clean) plates. Is this a big deal? Maybe, it depends on how you look at it. Personally, this is completely unacceptable for a restaurant of this caliber to set the table with not one but two dirty plates. This is not your local diner, this is Marta and you expect a certain level of quality for that price. I think clean plates is a good place to start. 2. Another area where expectations were not met was the degree to which my lamb chop was cooked. I requested medium rare, but half of it was overcooked to a medium/medium well. Again, I didn't raise a stink, just ate my food and moved on. But this again begs the question: is this a big deal? Well, when you charge your customers nearly $60 for a single lamb chop that you can get at a local supermarket for $15-20, it better be perfect. And this one was far from it. Incidentally, their campanelle Zafferano ($35) was pretty nondescript and forgettable as well. Like I said earlier, overall the food wasn't bad and it was obvious the chef really tried to play with combinations of different ingredients to deliver unexpected flavors. However, that lamb chop or campanelle did not deliver. 3. Lastly, once you are finally done with the meal and ask for a check, they tack on a surprise 3% credit card processing fee. It was not disclosed anywhere on their website or their online menu. I did not ask for their physical menu back at the time of payment, but a quick google search suggests it's in there somewhere at the bottom in very fine print. Essentially, they put it there for legal reasons, but they are clearly not transparent about it when you sit down to dine in. So that felt like a "gotcha" at the end rather than a nice end to a meal. In summary, the place isn't bad and probably deserves a shot if you've never been. The food and drinks do show an effort on the chef's/bartender's part to stand out a bit. But for a fine dining restaurant that expects you to pay up $300+ for a two-person dinner with drinks and dessert, you expect them to deliver a high quality dinner in return and that just never hit the mark. read more

I know people have been raving about Marta for a while so I was excited to try it when we popped over for dinner on a whim. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to try anything. It was a Tuesday night at 8:25pm but when we arrived, the bartender told us the kitchen was closed and only dessert or drinks were available. We found this strange since their hours state they close at 10pm. It was also strange considering the restaurant was not empty at all and there were quite a few people still dining there. Shutting down the kitchen 30 minutes before closing? Sure. 45 minutes beforehand? Potentially. Even an hour beforehand? Maybeeee. But over an hour and a half in advance? I've never heard of anywhere else doing that. It really turned us off to the place as a whole - not to mention, we eat dinner after 8pm most nights so we probably won't be returning. I will also mention, the bar is incredibly bright with fluorescent lights blaring down on you. Not a very inviting atmosphere for a drink or a meal. read more

We came as a group because two people from the group had gone to Marta 2 weekends in a row and wanted to share the good times.. so clearly Marta is doing something right. Sunday Birthday Brunch date June 2025 with a few of my favs! It appears to be in a quaint & quiet neighborhood on a corner. We had reservations for 11:00 AM and the crowd was light. It wasn't packed to capacity with a bustling line out the door like a lot of these brunch places can be. We tried a few things but starting off with their freshly brewed coffee alone, we knew we were in for some good eats, the coffee by itself was just so fresh & good. We knew this would blow our minds so we ordered just one for the table to share, the Lemon Ricotta Pancake Soufflé, everyone said they only wanted a tiny piece to keep room for our full meal but bay-bee, once we dug in, it was over, it was amazing!!! We all kept piecing off of it until it was gone, which did not take long at all between 4 people, it was the perfect combination of flavors, even with the warm drizzled syrup it was still not overly sweet, you've got to try it. For entrees we ordered Eggs in Purgatory (X2), Eggs Benedict, Campanelle Zafferano & a Caesar Salad. Everything was cooked to perfection, we all had an opportunity to taste a little of everything and not one complaint at the table. Out hostess was very nice, being our very first time, he was patient and answered all of our questions and offered up his best suggestions as well. If any dining experience could be categorized as a warm, cozy hug, it would be Marta. I can't count how many times my husband and I have visited, and our experience has consistently been 5-star. Grita, Allister, and Alessandra are all so kind and attentive, and Lore has done a wonderful job leading her team. Menu is wonderful and thoughtfully edited. No worries about getting decision-fatigue after a long work day or week! I especially love their tuna cannoli, beef tartare, and yellowtail out of their crudi and their ziti alla bolognese out of their pastas. The ziti is a generous portion, and I always have to take some home. It's even better the next day! Cocktails are also fun and creative. I recommend asking what they're working on or about the newest one they're offering for the season. They'll be happy to share! One of my favorite cocktails there is the Pair of Sages. Definitely give it a try if you like a more herbaceous drink. I recommend making a reservation before going. Marta's located in a residential area, so sometimes, parking is a roll of the dice. They also have sidewalk seating if you want to enjoy the cute neighborhood view and weather. I can't recall seeing any pups with patrons outside, but you may want to ask before bringing. One of my favorite dining experiences in Baltimore so far (if not my #1). The service was fantastic, although I wish I remembered our server's name. The beet carpaccio was delicious and the gooseberries really added an unexpected, but perfect sweetness. I ate the entire thing myself (oops!). My swordfish was fantastic, absolutely no notes. My partner's bistecca was also amazing. Finally for desert, the mango passion fruit cheesecakes was as delicious as it was aesthetic. My partner and I agreed this was the best mango cheesecake that either of us had had. We went on a rainy evening, but I can't wait to go on a sunny day and sit outside. We had wanted to try this restaurant upon reading some of the reviews. We had a pretty good experience, service was great ! The restaurant was full but it wasn't noisy & we felt that the ambiance was nice. We started with the bread servicefor 2. Good bread & fancy butter was very good but $8 ? We also had the Sheep's Milk Ricotta which was excellent! Our server gave us extra ciabatta pieces as there were 4 of us- nice ! For entrees , the best was the grilled Branzino. It tasted very fresh, seasoned perfectly & had that crisp skin char that was just WOW ! I had the pasta zafferano which was disappointing. The saffron taste was not distinctive nor could I taste the Uni. In fact we all agreed it was kinda bland. My daughter had the OssoBucco which was perfectly tender & delicious but a bit of a small serving . We also had the skirt steak which we enjoyed as well. It was a melt of tasty flavors that complemented the meat very well. For dessert, the scrumptious bomboloni is definitely a must ! Be sure to get it !!! We had a delightful meal where the three of us shared a number of plates: the arancini, the tuna cannelloni, the yellowtail, the braised rib pasta, the sausage pasta, an the branzino. Everything absolutely superb. Fresh, tasteful (nothing bland), even a bit spicy, and beautifully presented. The most remarkable thing was how fast this food was brought to our table. Often in restaurants that boast of hand crafting every dish, the preparation time is long. But not here. At the end we topped everything with a tiramisu that reminded me of an affogato. Marta is worth a visit! I had it bookmarked after seeing some fellow Yelpers talk about it. Believe the hype! Put this place on your list. I would describe the vibe as "casual elegant." You can come in a nice outfit but not over the top. It's not a "cheap date." Parking isn't the easiest - found a spot a few blocks up though. We had reservations for dinner. On a Tuesday night the place was packed - including the bar. Our server, Matthew was amazing. Came here last minute with a friend at 5:30 on a Friday night without a reservation so we were just hoping to just score a bar seat. We were pleasantly surprised they had a two top available! The restaurant is beautifully decorated and the ambiance was lovely. Not too loud. Service was also excellent. We decided to order two pasta dishes and a salad to share. They split the salad into two plates without us having to ask- lovely! The truffle pasta was rich and creamy but I really couldn't taste the truffle which was a bit disappointing. The ziti was also good but didn't blow me away. We ordered a side of crushed red pepper to spice it up a bit and it helped. We ordered the mini bomboloni for dessert and they were excellent! First time to Marta for Mother's Day brunch. It was fabulous. Service was great - attentive without being annoying. The food is amazing. We got the mussels. The best I've ever had - huge succulent, not overcooked with a great tomato based sauce. We split an order of the lobster pasta, which was really good. The sauce particularly was really fresh with great flavor. The winner of the day was the lemon ricotta soufflé. Posted as an entrée but really a dessert and one four people could easily share. The mocktails were fun and flavorful and the wine list looked very interesting. Maybe next time. I asked for 2 decaf coffees and I got two espresso decaf's that were just delightful. It's a really cozy quaint place that lived up to its hype. Will definitely be going back. read more

This is a spot that was on my list for a while and I'm glad that my company hosted us to try out some drinks crudos entrees and dessert. This is an elegant restaurant not far from Patterson park it's semi intimate but has a great rustic vibe mixed with class. When I walked in I was greeted by a hostess and directed to my party I started off the night with a cocktail; Smokey the pear. It was a mezcal drink that was sweet and smoky It blended really well. The bartenders know what they are doing. Afterwards when more of my coworkers came we ordered some appetizers. We had the tuna cannoli, sheep milk risotto, arugula salad, beet carpaccio, and cacio e pepe meatballs. My favorite was the sheep milk risotto this is a must have! The sheep risotto was smooth and have a nice sweetness to It from the honey It was fresh and rich. The beet carpaccio was okay if you're under the impression that It will be the same as beef or seafood then no you're wrong. It still taste like veggies but the olive oil, FRESH! The tuna cannoli was good too but if It was more raw I think I would've liked It more After that I ordered another cocktail, the cocoa noir old fashioned. As a fan of old fashioned this was good and strong. I'm telling you these bartenders are mixologist!!! Now let's talk about the entrees. I ordered the scallops because why not. Although the waitress mentioned that the scallop were light I wanted to try It and I'm glad I did. The scallops were seared to perfection in brown butter and It was mad addicting. There was no fishy smell or taste and the scallops had a great mouth feel. My coworker across from me ordered the lamb and he said It was bussing was well. I ended my night with the tiramisu affogato which came with a table side presentation. This is a shareable dessert and rich too. If you do not like coffee this might not be the one for you. Amazing! Exceptional! Fantastic! So many positive things to say about Marta that I will start from the cocktails and move through one of the best dining experiences we have enjoyed in a long while, ending with dessert! The cocktails enjoyed were the last herb, a crimson & clover Negroni, and a grey fog. Each one stood out on its own merits, showcasing a superbly executed cocktail program. Our choices of the tuna cannoli and sheep's milk ricotta served the four of us perfectly. The sesame garlic crust on the cannolis was such a great contrast to the freshness of the yellowfin tuna. All of us agreed that the grilled ciabatta bread allowed the truffle honey drizzled across the sheep's milk ricotta & toasted pistachios to shine. Two of our party couldn't fathom sharing their dish of spaghetti alla chitarra carbonara & they were not disappointed. The blue crab is a treat of an addition to an already perfectly balanced dish. My husband chose the grilled branzino and I must admit, I was thrilled knowing I would have an opportunity to snag some of the cannellini beans. They were prepared exquisitely-firm yet moist. The overall presentation is impressive on this dish and the flavors matched the look. I opted for the duck and foie gras panzotti. Oh my! The most unctuous meal I have had the pleasure of eating in years! The ravioli is stuffed with duck & foie gras. The sauce highlighted saba marinated cherries & sunchoke chips. I felt like I had hit the lottery as I shared bites with my husband. All through this dining experience Sandra (formerly on the check receipt as Alessandra) was excellent. Right there with an offer to refill water, check on food quality, and replenish wine. Her suggestions of the strawberry panna cotta and the apple crostada for dessert made for the perfect end to an amazing dinner with family. Then my husband added on the Amaro tasting! Fabulous! Absolutely one of the best dining experiences in Baltimore (maybe anywhere)? We had a reservation for a Saturday night and arrived a bit early. They were able to seat us right away if we wanted to sit outside, which we did because the night was screaming for it. Ambiance was lovely outside, so I would recommend if the weather calls for it. Marta really knows how to play the flavor game. Everything is drizzled, garnished, and plated to perfection. It is all style and all substance and I freaking loved it. Here are the things you need to get (in no ranking order): 1. Bread and Butter - Yes, it is $8. Yes, it is worth it. Just try it and you'll understand. The house cultured butter, basil oil, and sea salt elevate this from just a standard bread basket to something you gotta have. 2. Beef Tartare - Best I've ever had. No notes. 3. Beet Carpaccio - Favorite dish of the night. The gooseberries added this amazing pop of citrus. The goat cheese, the hazelnuts, the fennel. OMG. Even if you think you don't like beets, please try. 4. Ziti alla Bolognese - One of the best pasta dishes I've had. We ordered it to split and they plated it in separate bowls for us, which I think is such a nice touch!! I know the tuna cannoli gets a ton of love and it IS good but I thought the other starters were just...better. We also got a slice of opera cake on the house. Wasn't crazy about it but the gesture was nice. I usually like opera cake, this one just seemed a bit on the dry side. Service was outstanding! Wine list was great. Cocktails were good. With many accolades as one of the city's best new restaurants, I walked in on a Tuesday evening around 8:30 p.m. without a reservation and got a spot at the bar. Here's my experience. 1) Food: For dinner, I got the meatballs and the Caesar salad. Both were great, especially the meatballs. The cheese sauce it comes with is divine and the grilled bread helped me swipe it all up from the bowl. The salad was good, especially with the parmesan chip on top, but I was hoping it would be a bit unique. It's not- just a standard Caesar salad. 2) Drinks: The menu is large with house cocktails for $15, beer, and even an amaro tasting. Enjoying sweet drinks, I got he In The Fif of Thyme, but it was way too sweet and had an odd taste. 3) Service: The bartender was kind and attentive. My food came out within ten minutes of ordering. 4) Space: It's small, but beautiful with two dining rooms and a bar. There are several restrooms. 5) Parking: It took me awhile to find an open spot, but I found a few free spots along Patterson Park. read more
