Chef Nancy and her Crab Cakes Smoked

. Chef Nancy Longo smokes her Maryland crab meat. Note I said local Maryland blue crab. She also has a favorite fried chicken recipe and does marvelous boxes of food to go for locals. I highly recommend

We made reservations for Pierpoint Restaurant. I dropped off my wife out front while waiting for a space and parked the car. I was expecting to see a mad house on Saturday night, there was no one there? I walk inside to a small dark space. There is a bar up front where I see Chef Nancy chillin' and my wife in the small dining room waiting for me. It's crab season in Baltimore. The town has all their crab specials proudly on display. I'm really not in the mood to start smashing crabs. I read about Pierpoint Restaurant and their famous crab cakes. The restaurant is close to my hotel so I book my reservation months ago and planned to get busy with some crabs! My waitress comes over and I ask her about the beer list. She rattles off a few IPAs and domestics, I want a local Baltimore beer! Now, I know Baltimore and I know when someone is getting annoyed. Guess what? There's no other customers in the restaurant! If I want to ask about the beers, I wasn't in the mood for a dark beer and I hate IPAs, tell me what you recommend! No such luck so I got a glass of wine. My wife wanted to try the Duck Eggrolls. She ordered a seafood salad but I'm being told it wasn't made with mayo, she hates mayo. I ordered the $29 crab cakes. One regular and one smoked. Everything comes out, my wife is loving her meal. The duck egg rolls? Funky and cooked amazing. Her fish salad had fried oysters, grilled shrimps and salmon. Wife is in the zone, cool. My crab cakes? Holy moley... The smoked crab had me swooning! The crab cakes were amazing. No fillers, just fresh local crab meat. I highly recommend this dish. So far so good right? Why the three Yelp stars? Here's the thing, if I was outside at a picnic eating crab cakes, I would expect bugs. I was waving small fruit flies away from my dish. One landed on my plate and drowned in the sauce. Kinda annoying. Then my fries that came with the meal were off. My waitress comes over and I tell her the fries suck. She says sorry about that, they were made fresh. A little standoffish but not to push my buttons. Then Chef Nancy comes over and says I'll make you more hon, not a problem. How could you not love her? Any grown man should not be eating fries, Its not why I'm here. What happened was, the oil wasn't too hot and the potatoes absorbed all of the oil. I don't care about the fries and she knocked off a buck. The Brussel Sprouts that came with the plate were prepared cole slaw style, they tasted pretty awesome. All in all, I wasn't in the mood to smash crabs and have Old Bay under my nails. The crab cakes were divine and I highly recommend trying them. PS - I was able to snag a sweet parking spot directly across the street. Finding a spot in the area is tough

I had the sincere pleasure of dining at this cozy little restaurant on Sunday, the weekend before the July 4th holiday. My friend and I were dining in from out of town, and we'd just left a line dancing event, and we wanted authentic Maryland seafood, crab cakes to be exact and we found this spot. I will warn you that parking can be difficult in this area, especially during the height of the weekend at peak dining hours. However, we arrived shortly after 7 pm, found a decent space within walking distance of the restaurant, and we were so happy to have chosen this place to come dine. It reminded me of some of my favorite downtown restaurants in Boston. I love that it's literally a little nook in the cut! If the outer facade wasn't painted, "yellow" you would miss it. First and foremost, when we walked in it felt like we were walking into a family member's home. It's casual in appearance. The Chef/Owner, Nancy was super nice, and invited us in. She was entertaining a few friends that had just completed dinner and dessert, and they were just chatting as we arrived. She seated us, and gave us menus. Everyone was so nice! We ended up chatting with the other group and that was really nice. We even found out that the owner is friends with someone we line dance with. We ended up ordering the crab cakes and I added steak. The food was delicious. The steak was decent, but the crab cakes made up for the steak. The crab cakes was lumpy and perfect! I loved them! The owner also made us a couple of margaritas that we ordered, and it was so refreshing and good! I can tell this is a neighborhood favorite because, she's been in that location for 30 years. It's definitely a place I will be returning to because, the food was good and the conversation was even better! The owner shared with us, some of her really wonderful life stories. It was so awesome to meet her and talk with her because, she's very active in the community and with mentoring Baltimore's inner city youth through her cooking classes, and she's very passionate about building, improving and sustaining the cultural integrity and history of the City of Baltimore. I just love this is definitely the kind of place "where everybody knows your name...CHEERS!" Check them out the next time you're in downtown Baltimore! I promise you will not be sorry! As one of the previous reviews mentioned, if you're looking for a spot with a "sleek" appearance and contemporary dining experience, then this is not the place. It feels like home, its a little dated (But who cares, I liked how it looked. She's been there 30 years and that means more to me.), but the crab cakes and conversation alone is enough to make you come and just hang for a bit!

We were passing through Baltimore and looking for crab cakes. The first two place we called were full so we settled on this little hole-in-the-wall joint. And I'm glad we did. They have limited private parking at a nearby lot. ASK ABOUT IT. We didn't know and circled for 10 minutes trying to find a spot. The place has limited street frontage and you'll miss it, if you're not careful. Brooke was the waitress, bartender and other things, as the owner was out of town for the holiday weekend. I had a smoked crab cake and a regular one. This is one of their most popular dishes. The smoke on the cake was just right, not overpowering at all. This was paired with a Brussels sprouts salad and fresh home fries. My son had the scallops, which were perfectly cooked. Didn't try desert but the two the couple next to us had looked awesome and, by their reactions, tasted that way, too. If you're in the Baltimore area, definitely make a reservation at this place.

I am only able to review this for the cooking classes as that was all we were there for. We went on a Sunday afternoon for a cooking class to learn to make some rather unhealthy but delicious appetizers. Chef Nancy had everything laid out and ready to go. She explained the different recipes and some information about them (7 or so in total) and we divided up the work. All prep work was done in groups, however the final stages of cooking or rolling out the dough etc was done as a group so that everyone got a chance to try it and learn. The chef was quirky but clearly enjoyed cooking and showing new methods to us amateurs. I learned some new tips including how to easily chop an onion - that one alone might change my life. (Or at least my dinner). The food was good and Chef never rushed us even though she was prepping to open for dinner almost immediately after we left. We met some great friends and had a good time, all in all it was a solid afternoon and we will be back.

Really great service, really good food! Small space in a Fell's Point row house. The space was half full, and smokey from the kitchen in the very back. The decor is a bit funky, maybe in need of freshening up. The only server in the place was also the bartender/hostess/busboy - she was great and attentive. We got the Balto Box appetizer as we really wanted to try the smoked crab cake - delicious! I got the Shrimp and Grits and my dining partner got the Diver Scallops. Both were very flavorful and delicious!!! We were filled up by the time dessert rolled around and had to pass - but we'll be back!

We sat there enjoying our drinks, the cheese board, and watching the Blue Angels fly by. Great atmosphere. When we asked for the bill it was $73. Keep in mind, that's for four drinks because everything else was given to us for free. We never asked for the peach drink or the cheese board--he offered them. We paid the bill and left a good tip, but come on...$73 for four basic drinks is crazy. Just be aware if you're stopping in. The drinks are not cheap. Even with the free extras, it didn't feel like a good value.

I had an opportunity during the week to stop in during lunch as I have had this on my "to go" list…read more I was able to get parking right at the restaurant without an issue; but be mindful this is not possible most days and times. Parking is tight around this area. The restaurant did not have signage viewable directing to the entrance. Entrance is through a terrace area in which there is outdoor seating and great vibing view (on a cooler and better day then this partucular day with temperatures over 100°. Entrance was made at the lower level(bar area) and greetings were made from the bartender. I then walked up the stairs to the hostess desk and was greeted again by the young lady. We were seated in a formal dining area. This is a casual to upscale dining experience. I was dressed not so casual but was not feeling out of place as it was not a lot of people inside. One large seemingly work group dining together. Hostess/waitress placed refreshing cold glasses of water on the table. I needed to wash my hands before my dining experience and meal. I asked the hostess/waitress for the location of restroom. She guided me to such. While walking to the restroom, I was able to see multiple food prep areas (open kitchen stove area, guy in another sections rolling and prepping raw ground meatballs another guy in another area. All food areas seemed neat and clean. Employees also using food prep gloves. I finally got to the restroom. Immaculately clean and smell fresh. The decor was warm and continued the asthetics of the restaurant. When I came back to the table I looked over the simple and minimalist menu. Its not overwhelming with a lot to chose from. The waitress explained the menu and when it came down to the pasta dishes she expressed the size of the half vs full. Her described portion of half was the size of a handful and the full was that of two hand fulls. I chose the bolognese (half), meatballs, and my dining guest chose a caesar salad with grilled chicken added. We decided on no other beverages beyond the water. The food came out quickly. The described size portions were as such. I was thinking the size would be not as small as it was. For a grown man or someone hungry, the half portion will not be filling. The salad came out portioned as the pasta. A handful of caesar with a large uncooked chicken breast. The meatballs (3 total) was a great portion. I found my bolognese and the meatballs to be on the side of a bit salty. My dining guest found the salad to be on the salty side as well. I enjoyed the ambiance and calm dining area but the food did not wow me. From the portions, to the taste and then the price. The caesar salad was $17 and $11 for the chicken breast that was not proportion with the hand full of romaine placed on a plate and uncut was too pricey ($28 total). They charge a 3% facility fee on to the check. Paying $80 for this experience was not justified. I am able to knock this off my list of "to go" I may take another look at coming here again but I for now will not consider anytime soon due to my first experience of the salty food. Other than the taste and portion its not a bad vibing experience.
