Wow, I'm so disappointed that I have to leave this review. Absolutely hated our most recent visit. After previously, leaving a five star review, and after having a great experience at the crab House across the street previously, I can't believe that I tried to bring my mom here for a decent seafood dinner one night in Baltimore and ended up feeling ripped off and not satisfied. Service: while our server was nice, she did not proactively provide refills or pay attention to things that simply were not being consumed. At one point, I raised a concern about the nasty crab legs that had been served and she wasn't apologetic and was more so like, "did you want me to bring you more?" HUH? Like, girl... I just showed you that this pound of crab legs is overcooked, and the crab inside is dry, and the legs aren't even snapping, and you're acting confused... Food: GTFOH. So disappointing this go round. Everything we had, with the exception of the Kids pasta, was bland and disappointing. Or, in the case of the mussels, the flavor was overdone. Mussels: I love chorizo but why was there more chorizo than mussels? OVERWHELMING and super greasy. OOOH and there were six empty shells I couldn't find meat for.... Crab legs: these tasted as though they had been boiled, not steamed, and boiled for too long. They tasted like after being boiled for too long, they were left out to dry, and then someone put them under a heat lamp for five hours. Oh, and when they boiled them, there was no seasoning or even salt added to the water. That's what these disgusting crab legs tasted like. There was absolutely no snap to the shell, the meat was perpetually stuck inside, and it was very stringy and dry. Everything else: WOMP WOMP WOMP! It was terrible. I went here for a birthday celebration on a Saturday. We had a 5 pm reservation. We arrived at 5:30. They didn't have any problem honoring our reservation. We were seated immediately and provided with their menu. They had plenty to choose from. I was surprised to see that they offered an all day brunch and catered to all price ranges. I initially went for the steam crabs. They were priced at $100 a dozen for medium size. I ordered the fried seafood platter instead. It came with shrimp, a crab leg, scallops, flounder, 3 crab cake balls, brussel spouts and rice pilaf that I substituted for mashed potatoes. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. The food was fresh and cooked to perfection. Our waitress Gina was attentive. She answered any questions we had and was very attentive. Came here with my friend because we were in the mood for crabs and ended up ordering a dozen large. Absolutely delicious! The crabs were meaty, seasoned well and fresh. We also had it with garlic butter and vinegar which was the perfect touch. We also ordered old bay honey wings and those were so crispy, tender and flavorful. Lastly, we ordered steamed shrimp and the shrimp were huge and steamed to perfection. The service was great! I decided to take my baby boy to Sunday breakfast here. The restaurant is so cute and is nautical themed. The outside of the restaurant is shaped like half of a ship. The place sits on the corner of Boston st. When we arrived at 10:30 am there were no other patrons in the place. As time went on the place started to fill up. Our waitress Gina was so kind, attentive and provided great customer service. We ordered the hangover burger, the Crab frittata and the vanilla bean creme brûlée. It was all delicious. My son loved his hamburger and the Crab frittata was good. I really like that they have Old Bay as a seasoning at the table. We really enjoyed the creme brûlée that comes with fresh fruit on top. Listen the food is alright but this place loves to waste. Our waitress was sweet but for them to waste all of the crabs at the end of the night instead of being able to do take out is so repulsive and wasteful. The main reason we took the drive down to Bmore this past weekend is for one thing - crabs! So after getting a couple of recommendations from the front desk person at our hotel and doing a quick search, we decided to check this place out. And glad to say we were happy we made that choice. We actually ended up eating at the restaurant and not the crab house (set on the water) which, given it a bit warmer than we thought it was going to be, we didn't feel like being outside that day. We were immediately greeted and asked how many crabs we were playing to order. A few months later the host brought us to our tables and our waitress followed up quickly to get us and explain some special things with the menu. She was really great - very friendly, attentive and welcoming. All of the staff members were pretty hospitable. The decor felt like a elevates, modern crab house feel with the wooden tables and chairs, nautical colors, etc. Food wise, we ordered the Calamari and Boston St. Crab Dip for apps; then a half dozen crabs and corn for the entree. It was allllll DELICIOUS! Everything was very fresh, cooked perfectly and seasoned well/tasty. Appreciated the crab dip was a good balance of the mixture/filler and actual crabmeat, plus it being a bread bowl dip made it better in my opinion. Calamari had a nice crispy and, again, more actual pieces of the seafood instead of a bunch of breaded peppers which can sometimes happen at restaurants. This was a really cool restaurant in the shape of a ship outdoors, parking lot right across, and indoors..it felt like we were on a ship. Our server was outstanding, even demonstrating the best way to eat the crabs by putting on gloves and showing us herself. We ordered oysters, mussels, and crabs, of course. Also, a seafood stew soup. I'll start off my review with saying Captain James Landing and Captain James Seafood Palace is one in the same. I thought it was still Landing until I saw the sign in the parking lot. My husband and I had not been here in some years and decided to stop in and have dinner. No reservation! The seating area was nicely spaced, the design gave it a nice feel for patrons who wanted to eat a meal meal or those who just wanted crabs. The bar was off to the side and I must say my classic margarita with the sugar rim was out of this world. If you've read any of my other dinner/restaurant reviews, you know a classic margarita with a sugar rim is my go to cocktail and I'm very particular about the taste. Kudos to the bartender! Our server, Joyce was on point with everything. I loved her greeting, knowledge of the menu and that she gave her name last with a smile. She periodically checked on us and was overall, one of the best servers I've had. My meal was salmon with a ginger soy sauce- delicious and filling. I had a nice group dinner here during my visit to Baltimore. I was hoping to try out crab cakes during my trip and Captain James Landing did not disappoint! We came as a large group and I decided to split the captain's signature crab cake with a friend. The crab cake came out with a light crunch on the surface with a wonderful texture on the inside. I appreciated the quantity of meat in the cake. The green beans were also quite tasty. I did find the amount of food on the smaller side considering the price. After observing some other friends' orders, I could see that there were other menu options with more quantity for a similar price. Our server was prompt and very accommodating of our large group. The layout of the restaurant was also a treat with the nautical theme and boat-like windows overlooking the street. I had been wanting to come to Captain James' Landing for about two years-from the looks of it, it is a welcomed and community staple. When you come to the restaurant, it's shaped like a ship. You must order either half a dozen or a dozen crabs (you select the size, which range from medium to jumbo), and then select your sides, such as fries, corn, mussels, shrimp, etc. The food was good, but damn, it was messy! I don't recall the total price, but it wasn't cheap -- too bad I was still pretty full from that monstrous baked potato at Bertha's so I couldn't enjoy the experience as much as I would have liked. The food selection is good & every day of the week there's a special item. Today, Wednesday, the special was lobster roll sandwich which was what I chose but substituted chips for waffle fries! My friends & I decided to have lunch here couple days ago. As it was during the week, it was pretty quiet so we got seated right away. The food might be fine, but they did a bait and switch to get our business. I bought a Groupon for $20 off $40, which listed no restrictions except that it could not be used for gratuity or gift cards. I planned to use it toward a half dozen steamed crabs. When we got in, the server said "You can't use the Groupon for crabs." I showed her the fine print, and she said, "That's strange. It should say no crabs. I wonder why it doesn't? Sorry about that."
