We had just gotten off a whale watch, and it was close to many restaurants' closing times. Everywhere we tried to go was too close to closing to let us in or they were closed. This was our only option before a 2 1/2 hour drive to Halifax. The service was good. Our server was very nice. But the food was... mediocre. The salad dressing came in little Kraft packets. The meals came with two veggie sides and mashed potatoes. The veggies -- carrots and parsnips -- tasted either canned or boiled or both. The mashed potatoes were clearly instant. I can't remember the last time I went to a restaurant and had food that was lower quality than I make in my own kitchen. The scallops were decent which was the only consolation as we had been looking forward to scallops from Digby since before our trip. The restaurant could also use a refresh. The inside looks like it's 1986. The air conditioning was also messed up and the inside of the restaurant was so cold I had to go get a long sleeved shirt from the car. And I am never cold. I rarely leave bad reviews, but I had to tell my honest opinion. I didn't even take pictures of our food which goes to show how disappointed I was. read more

The original owner/chef passed away last year and now is apparently run by a friendly Mexican. I had a pretty good 2-piece haddock and chips, and my wife enjoyed her scallop roll. We ate on the diner side, open for lunch, but there is a much larger dining room as well. Recommended! read more

Restaurants like this may have a place, but putting food in my belly isn't one of them. We were greeted immediately as we walked in the door, and the atmosphere appeared cozy enough at first glance. That quickly changed when we were seated at a table next to 2 fairly vocal kids and right next to the kitchen door. All this despite the fact that there were many empty and nicer tables in the restaurant. Our waitress was pleasant and grandmotherly. She recited the specials as she poured the water and then left us to ponder our options. I chose the Scallop Special, my husband picked the clams. When she returned we gave her our order and when she asked what I'd like for a side, I responded with my standard question about the fries...homemade or frozen? I do not do frozen fries.... particularly in a restaurant. The waitress said the fries were homemade, but moments later turned to admit that they were now "regular fries" as the restaurant was closing in a few days. "Will that be ok anyway?", she asked. I chose the rice pilaf instead. The plates came quickly and my ever-growing fear was confirmed. Skimpy portions of the good stuff, and it all looked extraordinarily bland. There were about 7 quarter-sized scallops sitting on a leaf of lettuce. I had ordered them pan fried and they were, but for too long. In all fairness to the chef, pan frying such small scallops properly is not an easy task. The rice pilaf appeared to be Minute Rice cooked in a soy sauce broth. The plate was loaded with fresh carrots and turnip, but these were boiled and plain, and completely unappealing. Troy's plate looked similar, but his deep fried clams were significantly tastier (although still rubbery) and his frozen fries actually looked appetizing next to my little ricey lump. If you're a blue hair on a tour bus you might very well like the homey atmosphere, the kitschy decor, and the taste-free food. If you're anyone else, I'd recommend giving the Captains Cabin a miss. This is a pricy tourist trap, plain and simple, and it's sad to see our delicious local seafood and produce being dressed down to this degree. read more

Myself and the other half were taking advantage of not having to isolate and travelled to Digby. While at the harbour next to the Yacht Club we decided to pop in here for dinner, as I am a huge of seafood and she wanted something different. We went in and were greeted right away and the place was spotless and tables were distanced. We had a seat had our order taken promptly. The menu was fair priced as far as seafood goes with quite a section they even provided a disposal mask in case you didn't have one. Food came on time, had beverages right way, the food was plentiful and hot and liked mouth watering. I had the shrimp fettuccine and garlic bread, she had the haddock bits and pilaff rice with vegetables and coconut cream pie. I enjoyed mine immensely left nothing in my bowl. They only thing I could say was the old style wooden chairs were not the most comfy but because of COVID and not being able to sanitize a cushion we understood. I would happily return to this place for something else on their menu. I should have got the seafood lasagna to go haha. I recommend to all lovers of quiet dining and seafood when visiting Digby, NS. read more

Drove out on this sunny day to explore Mission. Found the Captains Cabin with a coupon. Very enjoyable lunch. Mimi our server was excellant. Had the ceaser and the beef dip. Took half home to enjoy later. Wished I lived a little closer. Would go back again read more

I had the misfortune of going here with my extended family during the summer. I had been here before, and found the food good, so it seemed logical to return again with my extended family who were visiting from away. We were seated towards the back, near the kitchen doors and were given menus, specials and water before the waitress left. When we came to our meal choices, the waitress was slow to come back. We ordered, I myself having the lasagna. We were not offered other drinks besides water. When our plates came, the portions were incredibly small compared to the other time I had been there and looked poor. I had ordered what I assumed was meat lasagna, the waitress never specifying it was anything but, and when I took a bite of my dish it was seafood. Thank goodness I don't have a severe seafood allergy! When I complained, they told me that "seafood" was clearly printed on the menu. It was not. The meal overall was poor, small and the waitress seemed very stiff and even rude to us. read more

We drove from Halifax to Digby basically to have a scallop dinner. A local fisherman thought that we might want to try Captain's Cabin to satisfy this desire. A more highly rated restaurant had closed for the fall season so we headed to the Captain's. A large sign on the outside advertised a scallop dinner for $13.95 This sounded too good to be true so in we went. We had tried a scallop meal the day before and they were deep fried so we wanted pan fried with lemon and perhaps butter. Our server told us this was not possible with the advertised special and would cost $5 more. We like to eat for less so reluctantly went ahead with the cheaper version. The scallops were smallish but very fresh and fairly tasty. The surprise was what came with it. We were each served about one very large cup of canned peas and the same amount of giant kernel corn. If nothing else, this did take me back to my youth as I have never been served vegs in this manner since the 1970's. I also ordered the potato salad and my wife had the rice. These were tasteless. We left wishing the chef could be a little more imaginative given that he works with some amazing local ingredients. read more

We moved to this area two years ago and have tried every restaurant in the area. This is perhaps the worst one of the bunch! Fish&chips was all but inedible, chowder insipid and service poor. Why is it so hard to get decent fish and seafood in Digby or a good steak or chicken dinner?! The general attitude seems to be "they're only tourists, who cares because they won't be back anyway." We tried this place a few times by ourselves and with visitors and but couldn't get a decent meal so more!!! read more

Good fast service. The lobster roll is excellent, and good for a light lunch. The coconut cream pie is real!!!

We spent several weeks around the area where Digby is and ate in the Digby area several times during our visit. Once, we ordered a fish and chips dinner to go and ate in the beautiful park near the wharf. That was very nice and the dinner was just what we expected--delicious fish and crispy fries to go with it. So, the next Sunday we decided to drive over to Digby from where we were staying 17 miles away and have lunch. I ordered the famous Digby scallops and my wife ordered grilled salmon. Both of our lunches did not meet our expectations. The Digby scallops that came with my meal were very small ones, not the usual sea scallops that one usually finds in the area. They were good, pan fried, but not enough to actually satisfy. They came with a very small dab of cole slaw and a scoop of potato salad for $16.95. My wife's salmon was not grilled at all, as advertised, but pan fried or baked, not what my wife ordered. it came with plain mashed potatoes that were very bland. Her dish cost almost as much as mine. The server never asked us if we wanted any drink besides water and the service seemed cold and stiff. We went away feeling dissatisfied thinking our fish and chips in the park from this restaurant was much better than our dine in meal there. read more
