As first-time divers we were nervous, but Captain's Corner went through everything and made us feel safe. We did the 1-day diving experience and it was pretty simple- you do training in their pool/classroom in the morning and in the afternoon their boat takes you to do the real thing in the 3rd largest coral reef in the World! Levi was an incredible instructor. The entire crew is friendly and we had a great captain and dive-master on board as well. I hope one day I can get my certification and come back to see the shipwrecks. read more

First of all, this is the only dive shop in Key West that I called in the summer and asked about conditions for diving the Vandenberg that told me if I could come back in the fall that would be a better time for that specific dive. I was concerned about visibility and wanted to make sure we were diving in optimal conditions. The folks at Captain's Corner are nothing short of amazing. The Captain was terrific, the dive master was extremely thorough and helped everyone and our guides were fantastic. The gear was good and they were very safety conscious. Every other dive shop I called in the summer said the visibility on the Vandenberg was great in the middle of the summer. Captain's Corner had availability for that dive in the summer but didn't want us to be disappointed with the visibility due to summer sugar cane farm runoff. I appreciated the honesty of the folks at Captain's Corner. We went back in October and dove the Vandenberg and had an absolutely amazing experience. We won't dive with anyone else. read more

I highly recommend this dive center. For many years I have wanted to have the PADI Open Water Certificate. My wife and I decided to get certified at Captain's Corner this summer. It was a wise decision to do it with this company. From beginning to end, the staff at Captain's Corner were warm and attentive, and the price tag was very reasonable. Our instructor was John, a diver with a lot of experience and a loving and patient personality, who accompanied us throughout the whole process making it fun and enjoyable as well as didactic. The idea of ​​getting this certificate was mine, in fact my wife was a little afraid. But John taught us us both with infinite patience and great didactic skills which made both my wife and I feel calm and safe throughout the whole process. He continuously adapted his teaching speed to our rhythm and pace, giving us very good advice on safety, equipment, protocols and the enjoyment of diving. He repeated things we did not understand as many times as was necessary for us to be clear. He proved to be not only a professional and methodical person, but very well organized: it was clear that the progression of exercises and dives precisely calculated. I really feel grateful for all the attention and care he showed us throughout our certification process, because the first impression of diving will determine how you develop and grow as a diver for the rest of your life. The diving school is nice and friendly, the program is personalized and the dives on the reefs we made with them were enjoyable and interesting. Both our instructor and the crew of the boat that took us to the diving areas at sea, showed great professionalism and care, constantly ensuring our safety on board as well as getting in and out of the water. It is difficult to find good divers, probably even more difficult to find good teachers, but finding a person who meets both skills is really rare: John meets them. I am very glad that I made the decision to do this course with them, because the other option we had was to do this course in an artificial lake in Pennsylvania (we live in NY), which would have been only a little bit cheaper. Our experience with Captain's Corner was totally worth that little extra expense. I am immensely grateful to the entire Captain's Corner team for the care and affection they bestow on their clients and their work. None of the negative reviews I have read in Yelp reviews were true in our case, everything was very good, responsible, safe and enjoyable. Got sent over from Southpoint whose boat motor blew. The check in was efficient, the price was average for Key West ...about 145 for all gear rental plus guide. Our guide Chetty was very attentive and took his time with us. We were out there for a good while from about 930-1pm so I told the Capt it would be nice to have a few snacks...they had plenty of water but no snacks . most companies ive dove with offer a little something to munch on. I am an experienced diver with over a hundred dives. First, the good part: we successfully made two dives, and no one was hurt. Now the bad parts: When we booked the boat they said they would provide us will all dives and gear, including dive computers a fixed price ($90). When we arrived at the boat the next morning the "dive master" said that the other dive master had taken home all the computers, so we would have to stay near him and use his. They had a very difficult time finding wetsuits that did not have large holes in them that fit us (XL and L), and they seemed stressed trying to find gear that would work. The captain was about as friendly as a prison warden. It gets stranger: once we departed the pier, our "dive master" sat us down and said "I should let you know that I don't actually work for this company, and I am not really a dive master. I am here to take photographs." On our first dive, on the Vandenberg, my wife's regulator was incorrectly tuned and very difficult to breathe from. This made her dive less than pleasant. Later, the "dive master" would tell us that the guy who works on the regulators doesn't really fix them and often just pockets the parts. Other notes: all the tanks we had were either significantly under (800 psi) or over (600 psi) filled, and after the dive our "dive master" tried to sell us photographs of the dive. Fortunately he was not overly pushy. If you decide to dive near Key West, we highly recommend checking out the other operators -- it would be difficult to do worse. read more

Fantastic dive operator! The crew is very friendly, the boat is great, and the prices are some of the better ones in town. Dive master Tom and the Captain (don't recall his name) were awesome. Very helpful in gear set up if needed. Knew a lot about the dive sites (as expected). What I really liked was that they don't hold your hand when you get in the water - they tell you where the site is and you go. I love that! Two reasons it didn't get 5 stars. I was told to check in at 1:30pm for my dive, boat didn't get to the dock until around 1:45(returning from the morning dive). But then they had to refuel. Ended up waiting a little over 45 minutes from check in before boarding. Also (and this may sound petty), but the tanks on this boat are in the middle as opposed to lined up on the port and starboard sides. This makes gear set up and rigging cumbersome. Overall, great dive operation. Will definitely be. A repeat customer, given the opportunity. read more

I have always been a big fan of Captains Corner. They are my go to operator in Key West when I want to go out and hit the Vandenburg. For perspective I am a recreational and technical diver with thousands of dives. For what I expect from an operator they are absolutely perfect. This get me to the site, I go dive, and they bring me back to the dock. Simple as that. The boat is great, its large size allows for ample space for people to be comfortable on the boat even when the boat is full, and I must say I love the fact that they keep all the rental gear on board the boat. I have never personally used any of the rental gear they have but I will say as an experienced diver its rare you will find a operator in the keys that has all the rental gear you need ready to go on the boat, which avoids you have to deal with returning it to the shop or something like that. The only thing I don't really like about the vessel is the two tier ladders on the back of the boat resulting in a pretty good climb to get back on board. For those in need of lodging Captains Corner also has a bunk house which you can utilize for a nice low price during your visit to Key West. This is a saving grace if you are here to dive and don't want to stay in some fancy hotel. Just keep in mind it is a bunk house not a hotel! read more

Ended up diving with this company on a last minute trip to Key West and seeing it's high Google reviews. Had some difficulties getting in contact with their office, called twice and got no answer and third call spoke to a lady who was very pleasant but seemed a bit scattered. Our interactions with the other guides was a bit abrasive, one was very rude. Also we were disappointed that both dives were the same wreck; this meant that the hour in between dives was spent moored in the pretty moderate chop. System was typical of a standard cattle boat, would be frustrating as an experienced diver. Did the morning wreck dive, was a pretty impressive large wreck. Water wasn't as clear as prime diving spots or the Bahamas, but was pretty average for the keys. Crew had an intense focus on safety that would be great for beginners. The highlight was our knowledgable, friendly, and top notch dive guide! read more

I was here with the explicit intention to visit the USS Vandenberg, apparently a bucket-list dive for divers. It was incredible! Having only certified Open Water, they told me I needed to pay for a guide, which is fine. I was assigned with the incredible Adam who was patient, thoughtful, and courteous. He helped to assemble and dissemble my equipment, which I didn't really need him to but it was nice of him regardless. The area was rained on for a week. But we were very lucky to get about 35-40 feet of visibility, just fine for the Vandenberg. I saw thousands and thousands of fishes in huge schools, much better than the boring reefs around the area. It's the stuff you only see in nature shows, folks. Set up was smooth, easy, and fast. You tell Google you want to get to 631 Green St. Their booth is a small white structure that sits in front of a large restaurant. Expect to pay $9-10 for parking. You meet at 9:00-9:15 AM, board their boat at 9:30 AM, back to shore at 1:30 PM. read more

I think that my opinion represents the views of our small dive club out of Fort Worth TX. We dive as a group once each year, and this year it was with Captain's Corner in Key West. We range in experience from 30 to 200 dives, everyone has been to 100+ ft. We expected to assemble our equipment and take responsibility for navigation on each dive, but we were delighted to find that the crew dive masters were more than happy to lead us on a few, and swap our tanks. We hired a guide for the Vandy, good decision, the swim-throughs were awesome. From Captain to trainee, the crew were first class in skills, professionalism, helpfulness and humor. We ended up adding an extra day on the boat because the entire operation was just perfect. Thanks to Capt. Scott for noticing that I didn't put my fins on before stepping off on the 6th dive. We did 2 dives on the afternoon of March 29th 2018, visibility was poor but there is no such thing as a bad dive in y opinion especially when you have such a great crew. After a nice lunch break we boarded the dive boat and had a few stretches of lovely boat rides. The boat had our small discover scuba group in addition to other divers. My sister and I dove with Captain's Corner three of our five days in Key West (twice to the Vandenberg and once on the reef). I am a new diver with an open water certification and had only completed 4 dives prior to diving in the Keys. The woman we registered with said the Vandenberg was an advanced dive and with her recommendation we paid extra for a guide. The Sea Hawk crew was friendly and helpful. Our guide Irene was amazing. She fit us for all our gear and gave us a very professional and detailed layout of what our dive would entail. The Vandenberg is over a 100 foot dive at some parts of the ship and Irene led us through rooms in the ship that we wouldn't have been comfortable exploring on our own. It was by far the best dive either of us had completed. The reef dive was beautiful and easy to do without a guide. We saw lion fish, lobster, barracuda and many beautifully colored fish of all sizes. The other two people in our group are not certified divers so they came along and snorkeled. They saw plenty of the reef and really enjoyed their experience as well. I would highly recommend Captain's Corner and Irene if you're looking to dive in Key West! read more

Honestly I think Captain's Corner is just an OK charter service. While the price may be cheap you get what you pay for. I dove with them a couple of days and each tam was 2700-2800 PSI. When diving with every other dive company for over 20 years I have always entered from a platform that is right on top of the water. With Captain Corner's boat be aware that there is a 3 ft jump from the boat into the water which can be precarious if you are in 2-3ft white caps. When boarding all of the tanks are placed in the middle of the boat and while you can connect your gear you have to disconnect the BCD to make it fit in their tank holders. When getting suited up their boat crew will reconnect your BCD. One time for me my tank became disconnected while diving the Cayman. My buddy noticed it and reconnected luckily. Also, another time they placed the tank too high and I help hitting my head on my first stage. As a diver I enjoy being in the ocean and in the open air. When the crew lights up multiple times on the ride to the site and also between dives and back into port I don't enjoy the smell and don't think it's safe around scuba tanks or diesel fumes. Lastly, while I have no problem understanding that the crew enjoys receiving a tip to be told at least three times was a bit much for me personally. On a very positive note I was pleasantly surprised when diving wrecks that they did place a 80 cf tank at 15 ft to breath from during your safety stop in case your air was getting low. When coming back to Key West I will definitely chose another dive charter company. read more

I had such a wonderful experience learning scuba diving basics during the 1-Day Discover Scuba Diving with Tony that I decided that I wanted to get Open Water Diver certified as well. I was on a 2 1/2 day time crunch before flying home. Leslie helped me plan my certification with my instructor while also speedily completing the elearning required to shorten the time it would take to get certified. I went through my certification course with my instructor Mac who is a fantastic teacher and leader. He went through everything I had to know how to do while in the pool in a more relaxed environment compared to the ocean. The crew on the boat took us to the most breathtaking dive spots with an array of fish and marine life. I felt supported and safe through every step of the way and I couldn't thank everyone at Captain's Corner enough! Great crew on the boat, very professional and polite. We showed up with three highly experienced divers on a mixed boat, discover scuba students all the way to divers with hundreds of logged dives. The crew gave us the respect of being experienced while still making sure we were properly briefed on the boat procedures. We had full 60 minute dives on each reef. This is shallow reefs 10 to 30 ft max so the time was easy to achieve. read more

My man came here and got his advanced open water certification about a year ago and he recommended this place to me. We both came here on vacation and figured if we waned to dive for 3 days It would be cheaper for me to do the advanced open water certification as well. Tony was my instructor. He is a little bit tough love and a lot bit talkative. He Always helped me with my gear, and helped caring my tank ( i am a weak girl) He gave me lots of confidence and support. going from a panicky diver to a more relaxed diver. My husband and I are AOWs. We were signed up to dive the Vandenburg with another dive shop and they cancelled on us due to not having enough divers. So instead they put us with Captain's Corner as they had a boat going out to the Vandenburg. What a terrible experience! We were told that because we were a late add on, we couldn't hired a dive guide because they didn't have one available. We were treated as an inconvenience all day and barely even engaged by the crew. We were told we couldn't follow the other dive guides because we hadn't paid for their services. Were treated rudely and made felt like second rate because of circumstances out of our control. Will never use Captain Corner again and would not recommend their services. read more

I strongly recommend this diving center to anyone who wants to go diving in Key West. My husband and I got out PADI certificates here over two days of pool training and open water dives on the reef. Our instructor John was a great teacher. He was patient and respectful of my pace adjusting to breathing under water for the first time, very knowledgeable and careful with safety procedures. He conducted the course in a way that made it possible for us to learn a lot about diving at many levels and a large number of new skills in a short period os time. He made us feel at ease under water, even at 18 meters below the surface in the presence of a curious reef shark!! It was an amazing experience and I would do it again any day. If you can go to Captain's Corner for your diving experience and have John as your instructor, do not hesitate! He is absolutely great. My dive buddy and I got stung by jellyfish after venturing a little off course and requested help from the crew.
