What a delightful venue! Tina came out and greeted us as soon as we pulled up, which we thought was above and beyond. The house itself is historic having built in the 1870s. They've restored it beautifully. Our room had a nice view of the lake, and there are extensive views of the lake from the property as well. They give you coupons to use at Paradise Bistro, which is a couple blocks away. That's a really nice touch, Paradise has a lot to offer and a great atmosphere to boot. read more

We had seen a couple of stories on TV and in magazines about Granbury, but didn't know anyone who had been there. I went online and began looking for a bed-and-breakfast and decided to give the Captain's House a try. It had excellent online reviews and a helpful website. It is right on the lake and the room we selected (Mary Kate Suite) had a balcony overlooking the lake. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the owner Tony who lives in an adjacent property. He couldn't have been friendlier and more helpful. We had a great stay in this well maintained, historic property which is one block off the historic town square and is a true lakefront home. We really enjoyed Granbury and will go back and stay at the Captain's House - we had a great stay. read more

5/13-5/15 2022 Just Had a most Enjoyable girlfriends weekend! The hosts were extremely welcoming, the entire mansion is spotless and furnished with gorgeous antiques. A historic landmark with all the modern conveniences! I stayed upstairs in the "Mary Kate Rm " Had a full kitchen( Lg refrigerator ) with dining table. Enjoy the large balcony and comfortable furniture that does give a great view of the lake. we came for the great antique shopping. Other 2 were downstairs in the "captains rm."with a oversized king bed, extremely large 2 sink BR with a sunken tub and a separate shower. TV streamed all the channels with good reception; continental breakfast each AM delivered outside your door or could eat it in 1 of 2 common parlors . this place is very private : max 8 guests. Both rms had Keurig coffee makers with plenty of supplies ! Caution stairs are involved . Parking on premise. Is within walking distance ( say 6 min) of the square where everything is. read more

Tony and Tina have put a lot of heart and soul into this house! You can feel their passion through their words when they talk about the history of the city of Granbury as well as Captain Doyle and his home. The grounds are beautiful! The bed was sooo comfortable! The view of the lake from the balcony is gorgeous. You can walk to the Square, where restaurants, live music and antiquing abound! Oh yeah, the blueberry scones and fruit were delish! My husband and I came here for our babymoon. We found it to be delightful. The host was very responsive. The property was nice and clean. And the breakfasts were good. Due to Covid, they left a breakfast outside our door by 8:30 AM each morning, which consisted of orange juice, fresh fruit, and what seemed to be a local-made, very delicious pastry (chocolate croissant on the first day, and then an apple cinnamon scone on the second...both were excellent). We also enjoyed at the very short walk to Granbury Square where we enjoyed great coffee, too many desserts, and sunshine. :-) read more

My husband and I have stayed here several times! We just love Tony and Tina's true southern hospitality. The historic home is just beautiful and has retained its historic charm. The views of the lake are spectacular and the fire pit at night is awesome. The accommodations and linens, etc. are top notch, the beds are comfy and the house is super clean. Tina serves a continental breakfast, but if you want something more, it's just around the corner in the square. We recommend Paradise Bistro! You can walk to the square with its many shops and restaurants. We call this our home away from home and feel grateful to have made good friends with Tony and Tina. read more

My fiance & I save up each year for a weekend away. Our recent trip to Granbury was my fourth & his first. It was a first stay for both of us at the 1890 Captain's House overlooking Lake Granbury. Unfortunately, it was also our last stay at this place. While it is a lovely, historical home, there are many such establishments to be found in this quaint little town as well as in other similar towns throughout Texas. As any bed & breakfast aficionado knows, the setting is only a part of the reason why you spend discretionary dollars (especially in this economy). Equally important in the bed & breakfast world is the service & the morning meal. My fiance has food allergies to strawberries and eggs. Not knowing that the Captain's House specialty breakfast dish (& apparently ONLY dish as we were later informed) was "stuffed strawberry French toast," I wrongly assumed that owners Bob & Liz Hayes would accommodate my fiance once I notified them of his dietary needs. Upon arriving, Liz was friendly & welcoming. She gave us a tour of the house. She assured us that her husband Bob had worked out an alternate dish that WE would love. I politely reminded her that I was not the one with the food allergies, but the reminder fell on deaf ears. Next morning, we received two plates, each containing an identical breakfast. For our $209.00 per night, we each received the alternate breakfast: Two small sausage patties, two Pillsbury Grands biscuits topped with cold, congealed, tasteless gravy. a tiny, 3 oz. cup of orange juice (made from concentrate), an equal sized cup of room temp water, a small fruit cup. Thankfully, the fruit cup contained fresh fruit--grapes, apples & bananas. But overall, our reaction was WOW....really? Seriously?? After bringing our concerns to the attention of Bob & Liz, it quickly became apparent the she "gets it" about giving good customer service; unfortunately, Bob does not. While Liz apologized profusely, Bob pouted, was defensive & then silent; interesting how he was so insulted that we didn't like his canned biscuit tray. Although Liz later left us a heartfelt apology note & $30 cash, which more than covered our Sunday breakfast, the situation was about so much more than biscuits & gravy. We gave our feedback in a calm, non-confrontational manner; one person took it graciously while the other pouted & was hellbent on being "right." In good conscience, I cannot recommend this place to anyone when much better choices are available. Nice view of the lake & a quaint house, but "Captain Bob" is sinking this "ship" fast! My advice-if you're gonna run a business in that involves serving food, learn to cook so that you can honor special requests. They're bound to occur once in awhile! People who are allergic to certain foods aren't trying to be a problem; they are, in fact, attempting to avoid a problem by staying away from foods that make them ill. Honor their request just as you would serve a "normal" guest, and you'll earn a customer for life! Isn't that worthwhile? :-) read more

We came to Granbury from NYC for the first time this weekend to visit family and were completely charmed by this beautiful B&B. From the first moment we walked through the doors, you can tell the amount of care and attention to detail that was put into restoring this home and keeping the history alive in its walls. We woke up each morning at 9:00am (on the dot!) to a surprise tray of home baked goodies, fresh fruit and OJ. Coffee station set up in our room allowed us to take our time getting up in the morning and enjoy the slow, relaxed pace of Granbury. Couldn't be more thankful to Tina and her family for hosting us this weekend while we visited my parents. Highly recommend! Side note - The town and shops are absolutely enchanting! Think Stars Hollow for those Gilmore fans out there. read more

My wife and I desperately needed a getaway for the weekend. My wife's family used to live in Granbury so I was looking for something unique and historic that would really bring Granbury to life during our short stay. Tina was very inviting to both my wife and I, she showed us around the property and was even offered umbrellas to us Sunday morning when it was raining. The views on the property were amazing! My wife spent time Monday morning journaling on one of the decks overlooking the lake. She loved it. We will definitely be back. read more

We stayed in the Captain's House Trenholm Suite for a quick get away. Our hostess' were Tina and her wonderful friend Cathy, who greeted us at the door, gave us a brief description of the houses history , showed us where everything was, gave us a few dinner recommendations, and left us with their cell phone numbers should we need anything else. We settled in to our two room suite, which was like our own little apartment with lots of closet space and dressers. The queen size bed was comfy and the linens luxurious. The temperature was controlled with an in room thermostat for our comfort, and there are ceiling fans in both rooms. The suite has lots of windows in the separate sitting room, and one window behind the bed letting in good daytime light. This being said, we would suggest bringing sleep masks, as even with the blind lowered, the light does shine in early, announcing a cheery good morning, perhaps a little before its time. The bathroom is good sized, tub, shower , commode and sink, complete with plenty of fluffy towels. We enjoy our time at bed and breakfasts fairly frequently, and to be honest, along with many others, one draw is a gourmet breakfast! The captains house breakfast, as noted in other reviews, is continental. Breakfast is brought to the common area on a tray, and consists of a scone or croissant, one per person, and a fresh fruit cup. (No butter or jelly is included, although I am sure would be offered if asked) and help yourself to k-cup coffee. We were each given a small bottle of orange juice the first morning and each 2 bottles of water, which curiously were not replenished the second day. We were fine with that, but we did request more k-cups. The suits are located on the second floor of the house, to note is that the steps are steep , great for the glutes, but not so good for the knees. All in all the Captains house is lovely. It sits around the corner, within two blocks of the historically beautiful, and lively, town square, on the banks of the Grandbury Lake. Adirondack chairs are waiting on a lowered deck with the most relaxing views of the lake. Perfect for an evening nightcap, or an early morning cup of coffee. July 2018 read more

Tina and Tony are terrific hosts! The home is historic with beautiful woodworking and many original features. Our room was really a suite with a cozy sitting area and private bathroom as well as our bedroom, and it also had 2 easily accessible patios. The waterfront seating areas were so cool and relaxing. Took my wife weekend get away no kids and couldn't have pick a better place to stay very clean very romantic and very charming tony and tina are great both as owners and people we was out downtown and ran into them at Octoberfest they invited us for a drink and introduced us to some of there friends all great people good conversation and positive energy if your looking for a get away i highly recommend this place two blocks away from the Square five stars very impressed read more

My husband and I just experienced a perfect weekend getaway, celebrating our anniversary in the Trenholm Suite at The Captain's House! The accommodations and furnishings were beautiful and really surpassed our expectations! We started each morning sitting out on the private balcony, overlooking the beautiful lake, drinking coffee and enjoying the delicious continental breakfast consisting of fresh fruit and pastries that were discretely delivered to the upstairs common area. We can not say enough about Tina, our amazing hostess and her hospitality. Upon first arriving, she gave us a very informative tour describing some of the history and myths related to this fabulous Victorian style house. Tina's passion for preserving and sharing the history of the home as well as her wonderful charm and hospitality makes her an excellent host. Both she and her husband (Tony) made sure that we were comfortable and had everything that we needed! We have been to many B&B's during our 23 years of marriage and this is definitely our favorite so far!! We will be back!!! read more
