I used a Groupon at this place last night, and it was definitely a good deal. $35 for $70 worth of food! I got a whole crab ( deal came with one whole crab per person), red clam chowder, bread, and a dessert. We got Woodstone Roasted crabs. The crab was good, but not worth the full regular price. The portion size was relatively small, so don't expect too much. It was absolutely flavorful and delicious; however, I did wish it was a bit warmer. I felt like it arrived rather cold. The clam chowders, the white and the red, were perfect. I would almost say they were the best part of the meal. The portion was small, regularly priced at $6+, but it was still a great soup! My friend liked the dessert, but I wasn't too much of a fan. I don't remember the name, but it was some kind of caramel topped pudding. The servers refilled our water glasses and bread plate a few times, but there was often a delay. Overall, it was a decent experience for fine dining. Cappurro's: the quality of food good the service a 1 star. Wandering the Fishermans Wharf for lunch, we stumbled on this restaurant mainly because I was in search for a Lobster Roll. We were greeted and seated. Our waiter Gonzales Wener took our drink orders as we checked out the menu. My husband wanted 1/2 dozen oysters on the half shell, but wanted the minuet sauce (all of 5 ingredients, shallots, vinegar, sugar, salt and pepper), we were told by our Gonzales that that request would be no problem at all. We also ordered the Baked Clams along with my Lobster Roll. The oysters and lobster roll were delivered first by another waiter, when asked where the minuet sauce was, we were told the kitchen doesn't make it. We returned the oysters to look at the menu again. We then ordered the Jumbo Shrimp Steamers (steamed in a garlic herb broth with grilled sourdough crostini). By this time I was almost done with my lobster roll, which was excellent. Finally, the shrimp came but came as a Jumbo Shrimp Fettuccini, AGAIN that went back. When the correct dish finally came out, I was done and had to ask our Gonzales to comp us something while I sit there and wait for their 2 mess-ups. Gonzales comped us 2 beers. When I asked to speak to a Manager I was told there was no Manager on duty that day, really? How can you run a restaurant and have no Manager, even McDonald's has a Manager on site. Went here today and ordered the roasted crab. It was a bit salty and to my surprise, soupy. It was like minestrone soup with onions. The clam chowder soup and dessert also are so-so. It was not that bad, just super so-so but also not exceptionally good. I would not come back. Crustaceans is still the best tasting crab restaurant for me. It is a huge restaurant in fisherman's wharf. There are plenty outside seatings for the tourists. Food are ok- they were not busy at all Thursday night. Clam chowder was not good at all for the sea food restaurant type. It was not hot, too thick and too salty. The bowl should be hot to keep the soup stay warm. The green salad was very good- simple but fresh and tasty. Crab was very meaty and fresh. Chocolate dessert was good and pretty presentation. Service was good. Completely underwhelming. We came here for Thanksgiving Dinner after hearing that they offered what sounded to be a great 3 course meal. Our group of 6 was seated and then we waited...and waited...and waited...for someone to even notice that we had been seated. Waiters walked past us over and over before someone finally came and got our drink order. It was to the point where we were considering just getting up and leaving. Finally someone came. We got some decent sourdough bread, but not anything special in a city known for sourdough. The 6 of us all ordered the 3-course Thanksgiving Dinner. Most of us got the white clam chowder. It was good, but again being "good" in a city that is full of great isn't good enough. The food took a bit of time to come out. It was your basic Thanksgiving dinner, turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and that's about it. The turkey was a little dry and we had to get sides of gravy. Our waiter at this point had basically disappeared. We finally grabbed someone and asked for some gravy, got it, and I was able to continue eating. I then ran to the bathroom really quick. When I came back my food was gone. I guess I should have told someone at the table to tell them I wasn't done eating. Oh well, I didn't miss much. At this point they brought back our checks, $34.99 per person for a pretty average meal. We thought we were supposed to get some pumpkin pie (it was advertised as 3 course), but the waiter didn't say anything, so we left. Then we looked it up online, went back in and got our pie that we had paid for. Overall the service here is crap. The food is good, but no where near worth $34.99. Not a bad spot for some decent grub. We came in looking for our oyster and alcohol fix. Both were met but could have been better - no major complaints. We ordered the dozen of oysters, clam chowders and crab linguine. The oysters were really small and were nothing special. One of the crabs tasted rotten and after eating a leg, I asked for a replacement, which our server gladly took care of for us! The service here is not very good... Wasn't greeted when we walked up to the hostess. In fact, she didn't seem to want our business at all. We pretty much seated ourselves (out front). The waiters/waitresses who took our order seemed nice, but they didn't really come outside to check on us... I would give no stars if that was possible. I was in town for work and decided to take a trip down to the wharf to explore and have a nice dinner. We were unfortunately recommended to come here. The hostess was friendly, and that was about it. Our waiter (long hair) was not attentive, and quite rude. We sat near the water pitchers and glasses and noticed MULTIPLE waiters grabbing the appetizer bread with their bare hands moments after wiping down tables with a dirty rag. While I am no health inspector, this raised a major red flag. Not only this, but we waited over 25 minutes for two crab cakes. Never have I been compelled to walk out of an establishment until today. We eat out daily, and have NEVER had such hostile service and unsanitary practices by the staff. I am generally a forgiving person and try to give people and places a chance, but I just could not do it. After talking with my fiancée, we decided to leave. I kindly asked a passing waiter to please cancel our order as we were going to leave. It was then that our actual waiter came by and brought two dishes that were allegedly our appetizers. They were far from appetizing. I told our waiter we were leaving and he said, "then why are you making my chef make your meal?" My husband and I stopped in after a long day of exploring San Francisco for a little bit of seafood. We didn't want a whole lot so we decided to share the combo steamer. After a recommendation from our waitress we decided to save the complimentary sourdough to dip in our "sauce" - great recommendation and the perfect way to get past the cold, chewy sourdough. The oysters seemed pretty small and sad in our basket and we had a clam that only half opened so it was a little hard to eat with the pointy shell sticking up but overall the juice made the plate and was a perfect combo with some lemon wedges squeezed over it. Probably not somewhere I would go again but we enjoyed ourselves and I think Capurro's has some good offerings and service. read more

Just off the main drag of fisherman's wharf Capurro's delivers up the standard seafood menu with a few unique twists that make it worth the trip. The restaurant offers both inside and outside dining with big comfy booths on the inside and excellent people watching opportunities on the outside. We came for lunch and even though the restaurant was busy the service was excellent and friendly. From the host on down everyone treated us like we were family and really made us feel welcome. Too often this sort of place is served by people who seem burned out by the constant influx of tourists and it is to Capurro's credit that their staff shows none of this. The gf and I ordered an identical lunch, which is not to say the menu was limited just that we have very similar tastes. We started with Caesar salads . then we each had a whole wood oven roasted crab. We then finished our meal with a butterscotch pot de creme. Caesar salads are so ubiquitous and throw away now that its doubly impressive when you find a good one. The caesar at Capurro's was exceptional. Lots of shaved parmesan cheese covered the top of the salad. The dressing was properly applied, just enough to cover the leaves but no enough to drown them. The dressing flavor was outstanding. It hit all the notes a good caesar needs to, anchovy, lemon, egg. All in all a solid salad The crab we had as our main course was probably the best crab I have ever had, and I love crab so I eat it often. The wood fire oven added a touch of smokiness that was unexpected in crab but very welcome. Unlike most presentations all the seasonings had actually permeated into the crab meat and totally upped its standard goodness. The crab came in its shell so expect to have to work to get it. Thankfully we were provided with bibs and crab tools so this was actually a fun process. One of the best parts was sopping up the broth left in my bowl with the excellent bread. A special note has to be made that this crab was succulent and perfectly cooked. Crab cooked wrong is a travesty, Capurro's cooks have this down cold however and the result was simply amazing. The dessert was also perfectly balanced. The butterscotch had just the right touch of salt to bring depth to the flavor and to balance out the sweetness of the carmel sauce. I really wanted to get a great bowl of chowder when I was up in San Francisco, so I went to the pier and found the place that looks like it would have a killer chowder. I must say that the aesthetics here are fantastic and I love the layout, the open windows, the bar, and even the bathroom decor. It kind of just takes you away when you enter. The food was pretty decent but nothing to write home about. I had a large clam chowder and it hit the spot after spending a couple hours in windy SF, but it definitely wasn't the best i've had. I remember I also got a side dish but for the life of me I can't remember what it was as it was so forgettable. I think this place might be surviving because it has a great location. Came already twice with my favorite friends who lived in the City for years, but now reside in the North Bay Area - they always bring me to dine out & they have delightful suggestions of great food! Never ate a meal here ... this is a happy hour go to spot when I am in town. $3 bar menu ... $3 wines and beers. And sometimes Pietro (Peter) the bartender is one of the most generous people I've ever encountered with the pours and drink buy backs. I can't really say this is fine dining in terms of the atmosphere, but then again I've never tried the food other than the bar menu. Chicken tenders are really good and made with breadcrumbs and breaded fresh. Not the icky bagged, fried version that some places offer. The bar food is always pretty good. The price is right. The only complaint I'd have is the bar area is kind of small and there are always less seats than people. Which makes sense given that next to McCormick and Kulato's across the street, this is my SECOND favorite happy hour in San Francisco. The sign usually says 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. for Happy Hour, but Pietro usually keeps it going until 7 p.m. This is the kind of place you will frequent a lot because the staff is friendly and like Cheers, when you come in ... everyone always knows your name, even if you are a tourist. Italian hospitality at its best. Highly recommend stopping in for happy hour ... and maybe for dinner sometime. I make it a point to try not to eat anywhere that uses Groupon. Too many corners usually cut by discount restauranteaurs. But then again, there is a LOT of competition and the place next door (Cioppinos) actually has a machine that pumps the smell of garlic bread out onto the street, which gets it an amazing amount of business. So maybe I can't fault this place for trying groupon to stay on top of the competition afterall. read more

The hostess, who was also our waitress was very attentive and made sure our group was accommodated the entire time we were in the restaurant. We were impressed! I came here while visiting San Francisco. Huge mistake! Do not come here! The old lady who seats people is rude. And the "margherita pizza" was horrible. It was so greasy and tasted frozen. I had a groupon for Capurro and I was very satisfied with the food from Capurro. We started out with the choice of soup or salad. I picked the clam chowder. The clam chowder was pretty good. Not so much clam but the soup itself made it up for it. We were then given the choices of different crabs. I got the garlic grilled grab. It was amazing. The crab was really really fresh. The garlic sauce just made it much better tasting. The portion was also bigger than I had expected. I came away satisfied. We also ordered couple cocktails at Capurro, I wasn't too pleased with the cocktail. It was a bit on the strong side and didn't taste too good. However, I think the crab itself really made up for that so I will still give them a 5 star review. I would definitely come back here. read more

This is the WORST experience I have ever had in a restaurant anywhere in the world. I came with my parents who are vegetarians and that's not too difficult in the city. We were greeted by a woman who asked us where we wanted to be seated. Since it was an unusually hot day, we asked to be seated inside. We had barely entered inside when, we realized that in a seafood-predominant restaurant we'd be better off outside, due to food aromas. We asked to be seated outside and she took us to a table. She then handed us the menu and we realized that there were not enough options that we liked and thought it best to try another place. I understand any hostess being annoyed by this. But what happened next is inexcusable. The hostess asked us what happened, we told her the truth- unfortunately there don't seem to be enough Vegetarian options for us. She says, "Yes lots of vegetarian options" We said, "Unfortunately, we are looking for something more" She says, "Oh really. maybe you are blind. Or maybe you saw the prices and you realize its too much" she says as she snaps her fingers. I had to endure such a disgusting verbal assault from a hostess at a restaurant! That is DISGUSTING and not fitting the San Francisco way of life. read more

We have visited twice in the past month and our family has been very satisfied on both visits. This place is right at the end of the wharf and is easy to get into with no wait even on weekends. We ordered at the bar and sat outside and the food came quickly. Prices are very reasonable especially for the area. We ordered a wood fired full crab, chicken fettuccine alfredo, cheese pizza, clam chowder, garlic bread, a beer and sodas all for under $100. The crab was not huge, but was filling and seasoned just right with a light garlic shallot wine type flavor. The full crab is MP and was $29 in Oct. Several people walking down the street stopped to ask how it was and decided to stop in. My husband is very picky about Alfredo but he was very pleased and couldn't stop talking about his food. The chowder was great and creamy and the fettuccine was very simple but flavorful. The kids loved the pizza both times. The ambiance outside is very cute and colorful.
