This museum is part of the Luray Cavern complex and the ticket is also included as part of it. The entrance is next to the cafe shop. From entrance to exit, it's looped red carpet walkway with cars and carriages on both sides. As I was walking through, I loved the collection of cars and carriages on display. The sections were split by decades starting from beginning of 19th century to the mid 70s. It was so amazing to see the older models and to visualize the evolution of car models from its old days. There were really well known models on display like Delaunay, Winston, Ford, Buick, Benz, Lincoln and Dodge. All car models were tip top clean. There were no staff members inside the museum. It was mostly self exploring. But there few of them available in the sweet shop near entrance and in the gift shop. The gift shop was a separate one from the big Luray cavern one, and they also had mostly different products in the shop. read more

Probably not a place I would seek out if I were not already visiting Luray Caverns. But this is one of the random museums in the same strip whose price of admission is included when going to the caverns, so we checked it out. The tour is self-guided, starting from old 19th-century coaches to mid 20th century luxury cars. No guides or staff, just a little path taking you on a tour through the years and getting to explore what there is. If you like antique cars or are a mechanic nerd, you'll love this place. It is pretty cool to see how the styles changed over the decades, especially with various Cadillac, Rolls-Royce, and Ford models. You can get through the whole museum in 10-20 minutes, depending on how quickly you move along. For the the variety of cars and the price of admission, it's worth checking out. read more

So fun we went through twice. We were having quite the adventure with friends at Luray Caverns and, while the admission to the car museum is free, I didn't think we would bother at all at first. But we were in the gift shop with half our group and it was air conditioned so we were like, "what the hell? Why not?" And we ended up having a ball learning about old cars and carriages. There's a car covered in black LEATHER that was supposedly owned by Rudolph Valentino. Crazy! Then, after meeting up with the rest of our group, we walked through again because we felt they definitely needed to see some of the cars, especially the one being driven by a very strange man with a mustache who seems to be wearing some kind of fake fur animal suit. The museum.is just big enough that you're done with it right when you start to get bored with cars. It was pretty cool. read more

Just a hop and skip away from the caverns, we have this wonderful museum that features vintage cars and carriages (eh, I guess all carriages would be considered vintage). Overall, I thought this museum was great with the quantity and variety of old cars (e.g., Studebakers, Bugattis, Model Ts, etc.) and carriages. I do wish that the exhibits were a bit spread out because they were kind of on top of each other. For instance, it is impossible to have a 360 view of pretty much all of the exhibits. But, I understand that space is a major limitation for this museum. While I was unable to have my 360 views of the cars, the signs provided plenty of information about the exhibits. The museum was nicely laid out for efficient viewing. Depending on your interest, you probably would need about 30-60 minutes to view the museum. I would definitely recommend it, especially since admission is included with tickets to the caverns. read more

This place is next to Luray Caverns. The ticket covers entrance to the scar museum. There are some vintage old cars and carriages and some engine models as well. I've read many books that included descriptions of are buggy's, stagecoaches, and trail wagons. It was really cool seeing what they actually looked like. There are also classic cars like Model T's, Studebakers, and Bugatti's. This museum makes the cost of the caverns worth it. Even if you are not a car enthusiast, it is amazing to see the beauty of the designs of these vehicles. Signs explain and describe many of the vehicles. Thoroughly enjoyed this. read more

The Car and Carriage Caravan Museum is an exhibit included with the Luray Caverns ticket admission. It is located on the cavern grounds just a few feet from the cavern entrance. It is a walk through museum with no tour options. All items are well labeled so you know exactly what you are viewing. There are a few carriages at the beginning and then several cars from the early 1900s. I would recommend it for individuals of all ages. The facility is wheelchair accessible.There is a small gift shop at the entrance and a fudge stand which was really popular when I visited the museum. You should only need about an hour maximum to view the museum. read more

So, the Car and Carriage Museum at Luray is sort of like the Garden Maze in that the two really are bizarre within the context of being right by the caverns. What do a garden maze; car museum and cavern have to do with each other especially in the middle of Podunk Virginia? I have no clue. It's sort of like one of those priest, rabbi and minister jokes. The museum boils down simply as others have said to a small collection of well preserved pre-WWII vehicles, sleds and carriages. The one thing that makes it slightly more interesting is that each piece has a nice placard in front of it explaining the who, what, when along with original purchase price of the piece. Without that I would be lost as to what any of it is because quite honestly I don't give a rat's ass about cars especially classic ones. People keep saying that this is "free" but come on now, let's be honest that this ain't free by a long shot. The price for this just like for the museum across the street is simply bundled into the price of the cavern tour which is why that is so damn expensive. It would be nice of course if you could purchase things ala carte but then I would imagine that this place wouldn't make it very long without being cross subsidized. On a sidebar to my last point, we came over Easter Weekend and the cavern itself was packed with people while the car museum's crowd was very light. I can't put a solid estimate on it but maybe 10-15% of the people there were going thru the car museum? Luray has no way of knowing how many either as no one was up front checking/looking at tickets. The kid in the gift shop to the right was busy staring at his phone, the girl to the left selling fudge was selling fudge and only one employee was actually in the museum and he was elderly and sitting on a chair in a corner just staring at people. I suppose the advantage to coming to this attraction is that unlike the cavern tour with its huge groups and continuous pace which gives you little time to stop and admire in spots, here you can look around as long as you like. The disadvantage is of course that if you don't care about cars or if you don't even know that the museum is here or If you don't like the collection which has been assembled then this place is nothing more than an unwanted extra that whether you like it or not, you've already paid for. read more

Okay, sure, it smells a little musty, but what do you expect from a museum with 100 year old cars next to a humid cave? This museum is about 10 feet from the Luaray Caverns and included in the price of admission. There's a fudge shop inside (I KNOW), The cars are also really unique. The other yelpers have mentioned the makes and models, but it's great to be very close to them. An extra bonus is that they have engines too, usually next to their matching cars. read more

The small Car and Carriage Caravan Museum at Luray Caverns overcame my low expectations with a pretty cool collection of pre-WWII vehicles. The cars and carriages from 1725-1941 offer an up close look at antique transportation. Highlights of the collection include: * a 1892 Benz - one of the oldest cars in the country still in operating condition * an 1840 Conestoga Wagon like those used to travel west * a 1908 Baker Electric almost 100 years before the Prius * a 1910 Buick Model 10 that made the company famous * a 1913 Stanley Model 66 Steamer for those that don't need gas * a 1915 Ford Model T that put America on the road * Megastar Rudolph Valentino's 1925 Rolls Royce * a 3-wheel 1931 Morgan Aero Super Sport * a rare and very cool Cord model L-29 V-8 Phaeton. Since the auto museum is included with price of admission to the cave tour, it is worth a quick walk through as well. In fact for some, this may even be better than the caverns. read more

This place is awesome! I most recently visited Luray Caverns in September 2019 and we stopped by the Car and Carriage Caravan Museum before our scheduled cave tour. Admission to the movie is free with a tour ticket for Luray Caverns. It was super entertaining to view these old, unique, antique cars and carriages! Plenty of photo opps were had. We spent a good half hour in there, just entertaining ourselves with these vintage cars. Would I go out of my way to visit if I were not already planning to visit Luray Caverns? Probably not! But it's a great way to pass some time if you're in the area. I definitely recommend it. read more

My surname is the same as the photo I took, and although I got a thrill finding this motor in Virginia, I don't think I'm related. This museum is pretty small as far as auto museums go. You must be a fan of automobiles and you must love really old automobiles to fully appreciate this museum. Luckily for me I am a big huge fan of both. Just coming off the cavern tour and gift shop wife and I made our way over here cause I love me some old automobiles and this place has the oldest still operational car in North America a Mercedes from 1892 how bout them apples folks. Other cars include Rolls Royce, Stanley, a fully electric car from 1908 yeah you read right. See you thought electric cars are some new fangled recent hi-tech modern marval... well think again folks. Those lyin oil companies they had the technology for over 100 years. If it wasn't for museums like this many of you would never had known this. All vehicles have been restored some restorations a little better than others but still a nice collection of antique motor vehicles that you will see in one spot cept for Jay Leno's garage. They also have antique horse drawn coaches minus the horse of course of course and an old sleigh minus the eight tiny reindeer. There is a old wagon that was used to go West....uh no... there were no cowboys and Indians reenactments okay. Costumes and old automotive memorabilia rounds out the displays. Again it is free with purchase of tickets to the caves. Oh just go to it people.... even if you don't care about old cars, it is a good learning experience and some of you could stand some fancy museum learnin. read more

It's just a bunch of old cars and other randomness (i.e. baby buggies). It's free, though, with your Luray Caverns admission, so why not waste 5 minutes and walk through it? The best part was the very creepy and oddly placed mannequins. Seriously, come here just to check out the mannequins. It'll give you the heebie jeebies and a fit of giggles. Totally worth the 5 minutes of time for the creepy mannequins. read more

This is a neat little bonus you get with the purchase of your Luray Cavern tickets. This museum is located between the Luray maze and the Luray Caverns entrance. When you walk in there is a booth to purchase tickets if you do not have one and a gift shop to the right.No one stopped us to check our tickets as we proceeded to enter the museum, so I guess they assume you will stop and purchase a ticket if you don't have one (not really sure). This is a small building with a large amount of antique cars. The museum starts with the early transportation cars and wagons, and gives you a brief history of every car. It's really cool to see the beginning of transportation and to walk through and see how it evolved. I asked a worker were these cars original, he said yes and that some of them still work. They also have old high end luxury cars. Some cars show their listing price during the time period they were being sold (I wish cars now were as cheap). Yes, this place could use some dusting, smells old, and could have a better décor. But my family and I enjoyed our self and you can't beat buy one get one free! If you are going to the caverns be sure to stop in here for a little car history. Cool museum for all ages! read more

While our family was touring the Caverns, My wife and I decided to check out the Car Caravan Museum. As some have stated in other reviews that the Museum is part of the tour price, we found out that the museum is free. I asked an employee what the admission price was for the museum and he stated that the cave tour included the museum. I then ask him what the museum would be if we didn't have a cave admission, he then stated it was free, just walk through the turn stiles. Otherwise the museum has no postings that it is free.
