The system technically powered up, but it wasn't usable. Rod and the team jumped in, diagnosed the problem quickly, and explained everything in plain language. What I appreciated most was the approach. They gave me options. One path was a full replacement with new equipment, the other was to clean up and rework what I already had to save money. I went in to get a quote about upgrading my car audio. First, understand I'm a professional musician and music teacher, that's performed in concert halls with a degrees in music. I have a trained ear, way better than any "salesmen". They said I came to the right place. I suspect they say that to everyone. I wanted an amp, perhaps with a signal processor. He showed me stuff, and I said several times that I wanted to hear it. I wanted to hear the difference with the Signal Processor on and off. Maybe all I want is an amp? Which unit? He said I could turn it off in my car. They were several amps. What is the difference? I had to hear them to make any judgment. I asked again if I could hear it. They kept ignoring my requests. They threw out a quote for around $1850 but never let me audition for what they wanted me to live with in my car for the next few years. What's the purpose of a showroom? I select musical equipment mostly with my expert, professional ears, not a salesman's talk or my eyes. It was a waste of my time. read more

After Toyota couldn't figure out why my display screen wasn't working -- and charged me $215 just to tell me I needed a whole new $2,000 system -- Rod took the time to actually troubleshoot the issue. Top notch job by the crew here. I put in a quote request on yelp for installation and their response was the most impressive. They didn't try to sell me on a quick install based on price alone. Rod explained that I should come in to have them take a look at the equipment and discuss install options. I came in a few weeks earlier to consult with them and booked my appt. I wanted to have a sub added to my Lexus GS with the ML sound system and they did a great job. When I dropped it off, they set my expectations, asked if i could leave it all day and they even called me later to clarify on a request to quiet any rattle (and gave me options). I asked to have the remote gain control mounted in the coin pocket and they did that in an even stealthier and better job than I expected! When I got there to pick up, they worked past closing to tune sound quality and show me how it worked. They were not the cheapest. But I didn't want a half assed job that would ruin my car. Recently decided to get a few upgrades for my Toyota Camry and decided to go with these guys. New stereo installed on 9/10 and a new Viper alarm installed 9/17. Rob Birch, the owner, is very friendly and approachable, he seems to know quite a bit about car electronics. I went with his recommendation for a Kenwood head unit and a Focal speaker system designed specifically to fit in a Toyota. Plus a backup camera and Viper alarm system with remote start. So far I have not been disappointed! Truly is night and day compared to the old paper speakers installed in the factory. Rob and his crew did an absolutely wonderful job with the installation, they fabricated a custom face plate to go around the head unit and did not scratch any door panels, it's the closest to factory install it could possibly be. And all wires/connectors have been taped, soldered and zip tied so no worries about anything coming loose. If I decide to get an amp I would definitely get it here. Sure they might be a little more expensive but you definitely get what you pay for with these guys. read more

They helped me procure a difficult to find Clifford alarm with anti car jacking technology and installed it in my Toyota Sienna that I use for Lyft/Uber. It was very difficult to program but they got it done. They never scoffed at my vehicle even though the rest of the work bays had Porsches, corvettes, and other high end cars. That was 5 years ago. Still haven't had any problems. In this world of "good enough" work ethic it was refreshing to see people taking pride in their workmanship. Turned out to be a blown micro fuse on the back of the radio that happened when I had engine work done at another shop, and they could not figure it out. My heart want's to give this place 5 stars. Because they took me in without an appointment. Of course, they made me "wait" 3 hrs for that pleasure. Problem with my car was the satellite antenna had become broken. Seems the prior installer (Circuit City) didn't do it right. Of course. So I'd heard good things about CAI, so I called. Rod answered the phone and said "Come on down, but be willing to wait a bit". I knew that going in, but they still lost a star. It didn't appear they were all that busy....so I'm not convinced it should have taken 3 hrs to get to me. Anyways, the tech moves the antenna from the rear quarter panel to the dash (I drive a Chrysler Sebring Convertible...see pic). I ask why he did that and he tells me that they do ALL THEIR CONVERTIBLES this way. Yeah, and pull up to a bldg or have high trees around and there goes the signal....hello, line of sight ring a bell? Anyways, he goes on a rant about it taking 2-3 hours to re-run the wire properly "Really? not if you know what you're doing". So I accept where it is. I drive into the drive-thru at Mickey D's and bye bye XM signal. They only charged me for the "antenna" and didn't charge labor. Well that's great, considering he only worked on my car 10 min. I had them do work on my vehicle twice. Once to install a deck with some trimming of the Dash brace to make room for depth and to notch the bezel allowing the fit of a 7" motorized DD Pioneer AVH-X5500BHS. The appearance and price were good the attention to detail was acceptable but I wouldn't rate it as superior. They had some issues getting correct sound out of my bi-amplified Soundstream SST6.9's powered by the Oldsmobile Monsoon stock amplifier. At first they only played minor tweeter but after they "looked at it" they played better. The fact that both speakers had similar sound both right after install and after they say they didn't do anything yet the sound was noticeably louder points to an installation issue. They still aren't as loud or have as much base as they did before installation but I have Inifinity kappa's and a Fosgate amp waiting for install so it doesn't really bother me. The 2nd job I had them do a month or so later was to add sound dampener to the trunk doing as much as possible. The price was $300 including labor and materials and they had to unhook and remove the box from the trunk with the amp attached. Then after the sound dampening they had to reinstall the box and hook the amp back up or at least that's what they said. Once again the price was ok for the amount of work but honestly I have friends and they have coverage of the entire bottom and sides of the vehicle and paid about the same price if not a little less. They have found 38 SQFeet to be full coverage and CAI used about 26-28. I included pictures if they allow the link so decide for yourself. I would recommend them but honestly the work was just average. The Owner Rod and his staff were friendly and did timely work. He does tend to push his own products and I actually paid $40 more for a pac unit than I could get online but he's going to have a lot more overhead and we'll let's be fair it's ebay. The owner dogged Infinity which has been run by the only living member of the duo who founded Harman Kardon since '83. I thought that was odd as I and alot of people I know have a lot of confidence in both brands. Everyone has their opinions though so /shrug. Overall they did adequate work. I had my Clifford 2 way alarm, Dual 12" box and amp installed by Fry's and they probably were about equal in price if not cheaper on install pricing. I thought Fry's did a very very good job for a big box store. After I left Fry's I was extremely willing to recommend their work. After leaving CAI I was not inspired with confidence that i wasn't getting jobed If you can't find someone else to do the work you really trust I would be ok going to Rod but I wouldn't rate the work as super superior to everyone else. I was looking to replace my stock deck. Went to best buy and waited for an hour without anyone coming to assist. While I was there I began reading reviews. CAI looked way better than bestbuy. I emailed Rod later that night with what I thought I wanted. We exchanged a few emails and i showed up on a Saturday without an appt. I ended up changing g my mind, the team was awesome in selecting an appropriate deck that fit my budget and I was out with it installed in an hour. I emailed Rod 3 years ago for advice on how to replace my Porsche 993 old unit and speakers. He gave me excellent advice, told me exactly which unit I should buy (Kenwood because the amp is more powerful and I have a convertible), and then told me which speakers to buy so that they would fit easily in the doors panels (speaker + tweeter). I bought the Kenwood unit and the speakers from him and I was able to install everything by myself, thanks to Rod's very detailed explanation, perfect! I contacted him again 2 weeks ago for another car, and I am amazed at how this guy is good at emails :) He always answers within a few hours, even when you come out from nowhere, impressive and very helpful. I live and work in Auburn where there are two car audio shops and a Best Buy. Auburn business owners preach shop local first because they offer the best service. I checked out the two local car audio shops and ended up down in Roseville. I checked out Frys electronics and Best Buy as well. Not very satisfied with any of them, an employee from Frys recommend I check out Car Audio Innovations. I was pretty hesitant at first, but ended up very satisfied that I took the time to stop in and talk to them. When I walked in I was greeted politely and I talked to an employee named Jake for an hour or so. I asked general and specific questions that one of the Auburn shops did not want to take the time to answer. Jake was very helpful and a pleasure to talk to about car audio equipment and systems. Straight forward, honest, knowledgable and interested to share information. The shop itself was pretty cool. Clean organized and busy. I explained I wanted to do the work myself and he totally encouraged me to do so. Offering me any help, information and support needed to complete the installation. What a surprise ! A business not attempting to up sale me on something. No pressure or obligation. I actually left the store to think about my options and make a decision. I returned shortly and purchased all of my Kenwood equipment from their store. After I installed the equipment Jake took the time not once, but twice to help me fine tune the amplifier and a few other settings. In closing, I would like to say it is refreshing to go into their shop because I feel they are honest, knowledgable, helpful and though busy, took the time to talk to me.
