This was simply a terrible experience. While the building looks nice and the staff appear friendly it's an absolute scam. I came in needing a replacement battery and they charged me $70 for a simple diagnostic test that is commonly $40 anywhere else. They then proceeded to falsely diagnose my car saying the alternator as well as the battery needed to be replaced and that it would be a massive $1700 bill. I declined and asked to just get the battery replaced as needed and they tried to charge me $560 to just put in a new battery that would be cerca $250. I left and got a second opinion where I was confirmed everything was fine and the battery just needed to be replaced at a much more reasonable price at express oil change and tire engineers down the road. DO NOT GO HERE if you're a college student as they will try to rip you off. read more

Terrible experience charged me over 3 hours of labor and didn't even repair my car. They kept my car over a week before even doing anything and never did a proper diagnosis. Also told me I had several things and leaks under my car. all my reservoirs were full and all the parts they suggested had just been replaced in less than a year. I had my car towed to another place and they allowed my to get under my car with them while it was on lift. the mechanic where it is now waiting for one part and that is all it needs showed me there are NO leaks and everything except the part I need is in great condition. Very dishonest place and I did manage after a week of disputing some of the charges get the manager to give me a discount on the amount. The service advisor was not honest and I am so disappointed in the mechanic who I have been to at other shops. Never again. Nope read more

I took my car in due to it having an occasional misfire, they told me that the problem was my turbo charger was going bad and it was scraping the turbo housing. They showed me pictures as proof of the interior turbo wear and told me it would be a $2600 fix. This made no sense to me as a bad turbo has never caused a misfire for me before so I took it back to my usual mechanic in Charlotte, NC to have him look at the car. Unsurprisingly the turbo was fine, he could find no signs of wear that these guys mentioned, and all he did was change the spark plugs and the occasional misfire stopped. This was a $50 fix that they were trying to charge me $2600 for that wouldn't have even fixed the problem. And I'm convinced they looked up some random photo of turbo wear online as I don't know how else you explain their photos looking nothing like my turbo's interior. Will never go here again and cannot recommend this place to anyone in good conscience. They may do good work but does it matter if they're charging you for irrelevant work that won't even fix your problem? read more

My first review "disappeared." So here it is again. This was so dishonest that I was insulted. I took the car in for a simple oil change. I go to pick up the car and they tell me l have a leaking rear differential and it's bad. Gonna cost over $700 and they said I needed new spark plugs. (I had changed the spark plugs myself recently so that was instantly a lie). I knew nothing was leaking and I know the vehicle is in really good shape because i do a good bit of the maintenance myself. To get a second, professional opinion we took the car by Toyota place and they inspected --no leaking from anywhere---differential was fine. They stood there and LIED right to my face. Just made this up. To replace spark plugs and "fix" differential---they quoted around $1100--yeah not sure why they were going to charge around $400 to replace spark plugs. I cannot imagine how many people they rip off everyday. I have worked on my own cars for years...I cannot imagine what they must come up with to fool people who know nothing at all about cars. I did not find car doctors to be truthful and honest to me during my last service and it ended up costing me over $1000 total. the customer service here is usually great but the service advisor told me something completely different than the manager, which the manager completely denied and overrode me. don't think I'll be taking my VW back here - it seems they don't know how to work the technology of VWs. read more

Ladies beware, definitely the kind of shop to try charge you $253 for air filters that take 3 minutes to change and $40 total to purchase. Went to take advantage of a courtesy inspection on my newly acquired 2013 Hyundai Genesis. David,the manager explained it was more or less a visual inspection and I was more interested in getting it scanned for stored trouble codes called one of the mechanics in and told him to run the OBD scan,which he did. The tech reported no stored codes and commented that the car was "clean" for a 2013. David said it was no charge. A week later I came in for an oil change with a discount coupon. It was done in few minutes and I was on my way. Car Doctors has really cleaned up the waiting room of the former Hopewell Tire facility and CD staff seems a lot friendlier. They're also quick to point out that the "recommended services" on the back of the invoice are exactly that recommended ( most likely by the mfg) at whatever specific mileage is at or near. Can't say anything about pricing since I used a discount coupon. But that was VERY reasonable. All-in-all they're looking like an improvement over Hopewell read more

DO NOT GO HERE, they kept my car for a week & 1/2 and when i finally get it back after being charged 2300 to change a sparkplug (i provided the sparkplug) .. 4 DAYS its doing the same problem, i scanned my engine and it told me the problem & its the spark plug they changed so OF COURSE i take it back up to this company, and they tell my boyfriend its something completely different thats gonna cost me $1100 CAPPPPP when i tell you that add an extra hundreds of dollars on everything FOR NO REASON. i sat in the lobby for about 15 mins and heard them charge a older man 700$ for a minor fix that fixed myself as a 17 year old girl outside auto zone. Edit: I decreased this review to 2 stars. Two weeks ago, I commented on the priceyness and pushiness of the new owners of this shop. Guess how they responded to my review? A denial of priceyness and more pushiness to get business. It's the same scope of work from this shop vs. 2 other established shops. The 2 other shops were not offering bandaid fixes. Readers of yelp, you all see the mindset of the new owners now? The new owners are not acknowledging my intelligence that I am capable of comparing apples to apples, and the new owners are wanting to instill doubt into other shops. It is not to my surprise that the previous owners of this shop never had to keep advertising to hire auto mechanics. These new owners kept hiring and couldn't find mechanics. I can imagine that great mechanics would not like to work for such an argumentative manager. Review from mid-June 2022 I had to update my review because the original owner is gone. The original spirit of this shop to help others is also gone. I went there this past week and this is $200-$300 more expensive on each type of repair above $600 compared to TWO other established car shops in town. It now has pushy sales techniques that wants to check in on you, wants you to write a Yelp review. Not like the previous owner who would just do you good and kept his mouth shut about what a good deed he's done to a stranger like me. There is nothing wrong with charging more as things have gotten expensive but well this is the FIRST place to begin charging significantly more, let me put it that way. When I first moved to Athens, I gave them a try. They offered financing, which I needed at the time. On my first visit I had an 8am appointment. Yes, there was a tech there but he said I had to wait for management to get my SUV signed in. They did not show until 8:30. Then, I had to wait 2 hours just for the diagnostic testing. They said they ordered an uber, but it never showed. Two years later, I decided to give them another try. I was originally going to leave my SUV with them on Friday. They could not promise, they could have my SUV finished by Sat. ( I needed the vehicle back). So I asked if I dropped the vehicle off on Sunday, could they have the vehicle finished by Monday evening. They said yes. Monday afternoon I get a call stating they needed to keep the vehicle over night. They promised my vehicle would be finished by 1 pm Tues. I showed up 2 pm Tues and they didn't even start the work. I told them I needed the vehicle but would return it the next day to complete the work. Before leaving, I asked if I owed anything for the testing. I was told no. I returned the next day. Upon completion of the work, I was charged $150 for the testing. I was also told, my vehicle needed $2200 worth of work done immediately. I called Chevy and other places. They said I didn't need the work done. Do not use this place!!! read more

Just had another great experience with this company. I had slow leak in one of my tires. I called two other companies and was told that, as it was a 4-wheel drive vehicle, all four tires would have to replaced, costing me anywhere between $700 and $1000. I took it in to Car Doctors and they found a couple of small tacks in the tire which they were able to plug. Total cost, around $63. We've taken three different cars there to be fixed or serviced in the last two or three years, and I think we've saved hundreds of dollars over what we would have paid had we gone to the dealer. They even offered to pick me up to collect my car. As I live in walking distance, I didn't need it, but the fact that they offered--even though I was having such a small job done--is really nice. read more

It saddens me that my experience wasn't like most of the reviews I have read. I had the biggest disappointment ever dealing with Car Doctors. This all started on Wednesday, April 3rd when our vehicle was towed in because it wasn't driving properly, and the transmission light was on. Although the transmission light was on, and we reported transmission issues, we were told it was the water pump and we agreed to the price of a little over $2,000. We were told they had completed the repairs on Friday, April 5th and it could be picked up. Minutes after they got the payment, the car was back to doing the same thing that brought us in there. We didn't even make it five mins outside the gates. This time after looking it over they called us back, to say the transmission was the issue and it would cost $6,000 to fix it. Sierra, the receptionist, was the only person we had spoken with at this point. I asked to speak to the manager and was given a man named Andrew. He talked a good game and told me he would investigate and get back with me within a day or two. He even went on to say that he would pull the phone records to determine whether we described transmission issues in our initial call, which we did. It pains me to say that Andrew nor anyone else in management has gotten back to me with any answers to the investigation. After five attempts to reach Andrew within the last three weeks, I have accepted that he is too busy to return a customer's phone call. I will attempt to make a trip up there this Friday to see if showing up will make any difference. read more

Misdiagnosed my child's car and less than 300miles the problem returned With more issues.

I have found the people at Import Car Doctors to be friendly, thorough, competent, and most important, trustworthy. Having been told that the problem with my wife's VW Bug was a faulty alternator that would cost hundreds, I took the Bug to these guys in search of a cheaper alternator. They checked the car out in my presence, and even knowing that I could be had, pronounced the car healthy. We have had no alternator problems since. I took the car back when it's undercarriage had been damaged by a tow truck. They carefully explained what had happened and the inexpensive fix they performed. I know a lot about biology and next to nothing about cars so, for me, trust is essential. These guys have it and deserve it. read more

Took my car in to get brakes looked at an an oil change. Oil change went fine and was reasonably priced no problems there. I will say I asked them if they noticed anything wrong with my brakes and they said no. When I took my car in to Mavis tires and brakes they said my brakes were shot and now I have to pay for new brake pads and routers. Don't know how they didn't notice that. I've had a misfire problem for almost two years now. After numerous breakdowns and trips to the Volkswagen dealership totaling more than $5,000 the same problem would always pop up weeks or months later. To go along with the misfiring issue still unresolved my Volkswagen developed another issue, this time it was a bad water pump that was causing the car to lose coolant at an alarming rate. I took it to Volkswagen and they didn't even run a diagnostic test, but they assessed my water pump was bad and I needed a new cam cradle. They quoted me a price of more than $3,000. I couldn't swing that at the time as everything was weeks away from lockdown due to the pandemic. Being a Lyft and Uber driver, my primary source of income now that my job with UGAA was put on hold I finally decided to bite the bullet and take my car to be looked at by another shop other than the dealership. So I looked online, went through countless repair shops and reviews and I finally picked Import Car Doctors as my choice and I could not be more happy that I did! I explained my exhausting issues I've had with my car and told them about the misfiring issue that never seems to get resolved, they ran a full diagnostic test and came back with my issues being just the water pump, as well as bad ignition coils and spark plugs on cylinders 1 & 2 (funny because Volkswagen kept telling me the misfire kept coming from the 4th cylinder. I was stunned when the quoted price was just $1,700, but Kelly made it clear that some small issues might pop up while they actually got to working to fix the issues at hand that could make the quoted price go up a little. I gave the OK to go ahead with the repair and I could not be happier with the result! At the moment the car is holding coolant once again AND there's no misfiring whatsoever! The quoted price was exactly what I paid even though they ran into an issue with a few stripped holes! Never going back to the dealership ever again! This company looked out for me and fully took care of me after just one stop, without getting thousands of dollars out of me and just prolonging the issue so I'd keep coming back and spending more money that I didn't have. Called multiple car repair places seeing if they could fix sunroofs, only place that said they might be able to so I took my car to them. I asked multiple times what is this going to cost, is this going to cost anything etc. it was my last option before going to the dealership because I knew it would be expensive. Every time I asked about cost they said they wouldn't know until they found the problem. They eventually called said they found the problem and it will be basically $2,500 to fix. I didn't want to do that so when I picked up my car they became extremely rude and no longer professional and helpful and then charged me $111 for the hour of their technicians "time". Then took it to Nissan and they found the actual problem within an hour. This place is extremely unprofessional and have no idea what they are talking about.
