I am so incredibly glad I did. They gave him an initial estimate (parts and labor). The labor exceeded the estimate but wanted to stay true to their word. That means the world not only for a college kid paying for a car out of his own pocket but for the integrity of the shop. You have his business for as long as he is in Harrisonburg. I would like to further amend my reviews. We took out car to Car ER for an oil leak. The next day we noticed more oil had leaked. We took it back thinking the repair would be no charge, but no! They found something unrelated to repair. More money! I'm not saying Car ER is incompetent. What I am saying is ever since our first repair at Car ER we've had problems costing more money! Coindence? Put two kids through JMU with beaters and w Car ER's help, we kept them in a functional vehicle for the duration of their time in Rocktown. I do most of the repairs on their cars when they are home and knew their vehicles well- but when they were away I needed another option. These folks are prompt, highly communicative, HONEST, and their prices are excellent. I never had them quote for unnecessary repairs. They provided some helpful suggestions to do repairs that were reasonable for very old vehicles. They do quality repairs and they honor their work. When I had a rebuilt alternator fail about a year after replaced- they replaced it with no charge for the unit (just labor). I've also had brake work and other repairs done there with excellent outcomes. If you're looking for a reliable mechanic for your college student away from home and are worried about being taken advantage of by an unknown mechanic- rest easy. These folks are outstanding and trustworthy. I wish I had them in my town- they would be my go to mechanic every time! read more

My air conditioning went out on a 90 degree day as I was traveling down I-81. I knew I couldn't make it the 200 miles I still had to travel. Car ER popped and I called. Julie was very friendly and told me to come on in. When I arrived I was greeted by the mechanic who told me he would see what he could do and asked me to wait in the office. Julie greeted me cordially and offered me a cold drink. Car Er was able to recharge my air conditioning and sent me on my way in a very short time in a cool car. read more

We are among thousands of tourists that visit the Harrisonburg area every year, and I say that upfront because tourists are easy to rip off. That is NOT Car ER. I had an issue with brakes that all indications were that the charge was going to be nearly $600, parts and labor, which I knew from research to be fair, even more fair than my research showed it would cost. Vadim, the owner, indicated the service could be performed by COB the following day. Short story is that after the vehicle was towed in, it turned out to be something far more than minor than it appeared, and rather than do the service and charge me anyway, Julie called to let me know it was a minor repair with a minimal charge. I could not be more pleased with the service they performed and the way they do business. Julie put it better than I could when she said "hey, we are you." Ain't it the truth. I am proud to put my name on this review. I'm staying at Massanutten resort. I'm gong to see if I can find a way to advertise their service there, and if you are a tourist reading this, CR is an outfit that will treat you right. read more

There is a certain degree of solace a father can get when their daughter has a car problem away from home and Car ER provided it. I did come up to check on the car and quickly realized the issue was much more than I thought. Positive reviews on Yelp helped narrow the field quickly but it was the detail about the great experience other Yelp reviewers made that sealed the deal. Had a solid conversation with Car ER when we dropped off the vehicle and later that day, they called me while I was returning home to describe the issue and associated costs. CAR ER has been great. We use them for our daughter's car because they are located in Harrisonburg, Va where she attends College. They have been an absolutely wonderful find for us, even though they don't specialize in her particular car, they do what they are able to do. My daughter took her car over this morning to have them look at her exhaust system. Car ER told her when she initially called that they may not be able to fix it, but they'd take a look. After hearing nothing from them for most of the day, she called them - they told her they could not fix it (annoying they didn't call her to tell her that, but whatever). She went over to pick up her car, and the guy says nervously...oh hold on a minute, and makes a call. He hangs up and says...10 minutes, SOMEONE HAD TO TAKE YOUR CAR SOMEWHERE. What?! Apparently they drove a customer home in her car! Then the guy got back and tried to say they were picking it up from a different lot. Stay away!!! read more

My car was repaired to perfection and under the cost of the "worst case scenario" pricing provided as an estimate. This is the best mechanic shop I have ever been to, period. Everyone is very nice, polite, and honest. Some other mechanics I've been to, I've felt patronized and like they were trying to sell unnecessary services. Not so at Car ER. I came to them for a second opinion after the dealership recommended an expensive repair. They didn't just agree with the diagnosis, but they even took me out to my car to point out the issues - just to be educational, not because I was being argumentative or belligerent! The best experience we could have had at an auto shop. My husband and I were visiting from D.C. when we started having car trouble. We looked up the nearest auto shop and found this place. The owner welcomed us and (luckily for us) had some time open to take a look at our car. He spent the next couple of hours figuring out what exactly the issues were with our car, keeping us continuously updated. He also pointed us in the right direction as to what the next step in fixing our car would be. None of the typical sketchy vibes you can find at auto shops at all. He was very honest and straightforward with each update he gave us. And after all his time looking at our car, he gave us a great rate for his time. Incredible! We just moved to this area and finding a reputable auto repair facility is about as painful as finding a new physician. However, I went to Yelp and came across Car ER and read their reviews which sounded promising, so I decided to give them a shot. I needed and oil change (pretty simple) and the brakes checked because they didn't sound quite right to me. Oil change was fine (about $50 for synthetic motor oil), and they spent lots of time checking the brakes in trying to diagnose any problems. Although they didn't find anything specific, I was assured there were no safety issues and I should just monitor the problem. They COULD have said "sure, we'll just change the rotors and pads, and thanks for your $500" but they didn't. And they checked all the filter and advised me that they needed to be replaced which they could do or I could (and I will). Julie (front office) was extremely helpful and a joy to talk with and kept me informed on the progress. Well, I think I have the auto repair search pretty well nailed down, now on to finding a good doc! read more

I called Car ER based upon positive reviews and feedback. I spoke with Mark and told him that my 21 year old daughter had an issue with her tire since she had a flat tire as she struck a curb. I was over 2 hours away and needed someone to help and Mark jumped right in. The Car ER folks replaced two tires, put the new ones on the front of her Honda and discovered another tire issue that could have been very dangerous at highway speeds. I work in public safety and having someone take such good care of a loved one made my day. We were driving from the DC area to Knoxville a week ago, and the air conditioning on our 2013 Chrysler Town and Country seemed to have died - and it was hot out that day. We stopped in Harrisonburg and, after asking another service station where we might get our car fixed, were referred to Car ER, just a few miles up the street. We were absolutely delighted that, when we pulled in, the owner greeted us and could take our car in right away. Car ER had all the right/certified equipment, and our car was repaired on the spot And, we were out of there and back on the road just about as fast as you could have been. They were very nice, really friendly, explained everything about the process, and even offered us sodas and water while we were waiting. And, the price was very fair, reasonable actually. So happy to have found them - they did a great job! We don't live in Harrisonburg, but if we did, I'd be taking our cars there all the time. read more
