I've used this Car Toys location multiple times for decently big rack and light installations for several years and recently I had them do a serious install on my 4Runner. The current staff has amazing quality of installation and serice in my opinion and I've ran a few oil changes in the past so I know about customer service and working with cars on some levels. Nick is just a really solid guy and a top level electrician/light installer. The wiring that he did throughout the rack and on my additional front facing lights is virtually invisible and can only be found upon close inspection. I have zero doubt it will all last 10+ years if I don't mess with any wiring. And I know I can just call in and be taken care of by the rest of the staff if I have any needs. Top notch. read more

First the customer service at this place is terrible except for one tech in the back, he knows his stuff but unfortunately you have to deal with the front of house. Theres a manager there, a gentleman maybe by the name Jesse (dark hair) who is the absolute worst. I've spent over 10k at this place and this dude will still try and swindle me. Would not recommend installation services here. Had aftermarket radio installed. Front speakers didn't work and needed to return to get them fixed. Afterwards the GPS for apple car play was not working well. I opened up the car radio myself and found they just slapped the GPS antenna on the radio it self. I moved it to the top of the dash and that resolved the issue. read more

BEWARE...Car Toys Boulder Colorado is terrible especially the store manager Jesse Montana. Honesty and customer service is not valued. Aug 2023 spent $2,900. on after market car radio. Sept 2023 after install the assistant store manager Louie and installation tech agreed that the XM satellite antenna was installed in the wrong location. They advised that XM signal would be lost while driving north. They advised that Car Toys would re locate the XM antenna free of charge and created an appointment to do the work. In the three days prior to the appointment Store Manager Jesse Montana changed the re locate antenna work to full charge and DID NOT notify customer of this change. Only when showing up early for the appointment Jesse Montana used a lie as an excuse to override the decision by the employees that actually know the technical details. Customer was also not given the XM Tuner Code needed to turn on XM Satellite service. The code is on the tuner box that they tossed out and on the tuner itself that is buried under the dash. Customers DO NOT get what they pay for and get overcharged for ineffective installation direction by store manager Jesse Montana. Crappy attitude and customer service! Not worth one star. I'd suggest finding another shop. Although chances are you won't notice, these guys are in a rush. They overwork their installers, and when they make mistakes, they'll make you feel like its your fault. They WILL NOT REFUND LABOR (even when they make obvious mistakes) They'll just try to remedy by letting you return or exchange equipment, which will also be installed poorly. We had multiple visits to "fix" multiple issues that were never fully fixed. Once we went to another shop, they replaced a few speakers that were cracked upon installation because they only used 2 of the 4 mounting holes and over-tightened them. The sound was horrible due to improper installation of the tweeters/crossovers (actually, no crossovers were used). If you bypass my warning about stereo installation, then heed my warning about working on your electrical system. I had them install a second battery, inverter and several 12volt outlets. They used the wrong battery and inverter which ultimately fried my vehicle's primary battery and a few appliances that were attached to the 12v outlets. What was their solution? They refunded the equipment but not the labor. In other words, it cost us a lot of money they weren't willing to take responsibility for. I'd again urge you to look elsewhere. I've purchased from and used this shop in the past for my Ford Raptor but the latest time will be my last time I do business with this shop. I took my wife's 4Runner in to get a new fancy head unit installed for her as a surprise. The shop couldn't get it working right and after returning 3 times for them to try and fix it they never could get it working properly. I asked them to uninstall the headunit after being told they would do it for free they charged me 50% of what it would normally cost. They took way longer than they said they would to uninstall the unit and reinstall the stock head unit. While I waited I listened to the Jesse and some other employee complain about other customers. They wouldn't take the head unit they couldn't get working back but the guy at the desk did follow me out of the store and asked to buy it from me at a discount and said not to tell on him or he would get fired!! There are many shops to choose from stay away from this one. Their installers lack skill and they do sketchy things. read more

I will not be returning here. After I paid more than the cost of the stereo system to have it installed, it stopped working in a week. After I let them know and brought it in for them to fix it, they said that the warranty was voided because I had all the wiring changed and was trying to watch movies while I was driving... Well, as you can imagine, I was surprised to hear this since I did not do any of this. They even had the nerve over and over again to call me a liar. "we don't use these connectors" and "that is against our policy".. That's great and all, but I didn't spend hundreds of dollars for you to install something just for me, a person who has no desire or ability to mess around with it, to change around all the wiring. After finally going through the manager, I was finally able to get my car fixed. I was never told what they did wrong, or why they felt the need to be so disrespectful and spiteful towards me, or even given an apology. Don't waste your time like me and find another shop. I went in just for a quote and was treated with extremely rude customer service immediately. Though they have a nice showroom, don't be fooled. These guys are amateurs at max, they didn't know how to install a small set of subs on my truck and ended up quoting me thousands (no joke) for an installation of ONE 8' sub. I would give them a minus 4 stars We were scheduled for an appointment for right when they first opened to be the first install of the day. Then all of a sudden we get bumped out because someone the tech knew came in for an install. We told that they could probably do it at noon. We asked for a refund. He asked us if we wanted to keep the hardware, why would we want your hardware when we aren't getting your system? Finally got the refund and left. We were halfway home when he called and said that they could get us right in if we wanted to come back. Look, I can only speak for me. I've done about 3 major installs from this shop over the past 2 years (head unit, front and rear speakers, 4-channel amp) and they've been honest, fair and about market price. In fact, they upgraded me twice when they didn't have a componente in stock on install day. I don't know about the entire national brand, but this store did good business! Ask for Luigi or Bryce. Car audio is definitely its own world as far as how much money you can burn and how quickly you want to burn it, and if you're like me, a bit of nervous googling is just the starting point, but at THIS store, the sales reps are pretty dang honest and low pressure with you (or, they were with me, at least.). I took my car in yesterday to have the stereo replaced and when I got home the drivers door would not open and when I brought it back today to have it repaired they said they never touched the door but they actually had making me feel like it was something I did. They did repair it but never apologized and while I was waiting, being disabled and walking with walking sticks, was not offered a chair to sit in. They were reluctant to bring me a chair but eventually did. The hand controls on the steering wheel also did not work and instead of admitting that they didn't install it correctly they blamed the process on Subaru. I felt humiliated and miss treated and I'm not happy with Car Toys service at all! They definitely need a lesson in customer service. read more

Bought a stereo and harness, installation hardware ect.. rep was very helpful. Installed unit myself, had an issue with door chimes being extremely loud after install. Called and was told: "its an easy fix, but manager told me I am not allowed to tell you what that fix is". Its one thing if they have to dig in to issues, but to just withhold information because "thats our policy", truly awful customer service I get it, they are in the buisness of making money, but its not like I called and asked for advice without paying anything. I spent a fair amount on the hardware and I am sure they made money on the parts. Is it too much to ask to give me a 30 second tip to fix a problem as a paying customer? I purchased a groupon for an interior detail & had high hopes. Does it look better than it did? Yes. It is what I'd expected for what I paid? No way. The technician did not even wipe the dust from the vents on top of the dash, I could see the line in the corners where he wiped but not bothered to get all the way into the corner. Inside the cup holders & inside the handle opening on the door were still dirty. Even a spot on the seat he couldn't manage to get up that I got up in 30 seconds with something I bought at Walmart. Car detail-I paid $570 for a car detail. $350 for the interior + an upcharge since it's a 4runner. Picked my car up and it had dust all along the back seats and throughout the cargo area. Brought the staff out to have a look they said I'd have to come back the next day to speak to the guy who did the detail. Went back, he looked at it and said he wiped every single surface in the vehicle. Even when we were literally looking at all the dust that was left and easily wiped with my finger! I asked to get the manager. They had a chat before coming out and they both stood there and basically accused me of having unrealistic expectations for the amount of money I paid and that if I was expecting PERFECTION, I should have paid for a different more expensive interior detail service that was not even on the menu shown to me. I was not expecting a brand new perfect interior, but there was literally dust that I could see and wipe with my finger in several locations. Very disappointing that they couldn't just acknowledge that they missed some spots and instead 3 grown men (boys) stood in front of me and acted like I was crazy and unreasonable. Definitely will never go back there again. Is this really where our world has gone? No one cares about their work and then denies doing a bad job when it's staring them in the face. When I asked why it has not been looked at over 2 hours later, I was told well we only have two techs working an they are working on autos that were dropped off last night or this morning. They get paid off commission and it shows. But my main problem is how I was treated when they made a mistake on parts they sold me. One of the guys sold me multiple parts that were completely not compatible with my car. One of the parts even stated on the package what cars were compatible with eh product. And yet, a guy who I assume was the manager, insisted that it was my fault for not paying for the $100 installation. I don't appreciate the mentality that I'm less valuable and wrong just because I didn't pay for them to install the radio. Even the salesman's attitude got weird when I said I would do it myself. That's a bad culture, it pressures customers to pay them for everything to be done on a car. I'm sure they get ppl who don't know what their doing then complain to them about problems, but this wasn't the case to me. They were instead rude because they assumed I was ignorant about cars. In the end they refunded me the parts and got me compatible replacements. But all in all, I wasted a very large amount of time and still was treated poorly. Also everyone should know that you can find the same exact things on Amazon for significantly cheaper price. I can not recommend this place. I had a backup camera installed on my truck which worked for only a few month. I went back and they took 2 days to tell me that the original tech installed it wrong and I needed to make a new appointment to have it installed correctly. Ok - after loosing another full day at the shop the camera worked for a year before failing again. This time they said the camera was broken and needed to be reinstalled again. Another 9 month goes by and the camera again stops working. This time they basically told me that this was a lost cause and all they could do was refund the labor cost but the camera was broken again and had to be replaced, including a full new install. Over the weekend I looked at this myself and discovered all the shoddy wiring work they had done. I fixed all of that but the main culprit ended up a bad connector. Dielectric grease and electric tape fixed it all and the camera works flawlessly again. No problem with the camera at all. You decide if you want to go there.... read more

The theme continues, this place is a rip-off. I was ready to buy a half decent $150 unit, it was all I needed. After being "sold" on a $350 unit, then a $250 unit, it turned out the $150 unit met my needs. Plus installation of course, which was about another $100. Plus parts, another $75. Then the "installer" needs to check out my car to see about the full installation, even though another installer at another store today told me that with the make and model he knew exactly what was needed. The "installer" says I need to pay another $85. Then they throw on a warranty without telling me and before I know it my $150 unit is $480! While in the store, we called Best Buy and got the same exact unit, installed, all parts and labor for $280. Seriously, something needs to be done about this place, I hope people look at these reviews before shopping at Car Toys. read more

We needed to go phone shopping and I knew it was going to be a miserable experience, so thought we'd mitigate it by going to Car Toys. We'd used them in the past and been satisfied with the service, plans, and phones we found there. Sadly, it might be the last time we use them. The initial sales guy was totally unhelpful in terms of helping me understand the differences between the various phones and plans we were considering. I kept telling him that I use my phone the most for work and he kept saying that if I wanted a phone for business I should consider X but that Y would probably be fine for my needs. Once we finally settled on phones and the plan we wanted (he was no help there, either--couldn't explain much at all about the difference in data options), it took more than an hour for them to activate our new phones and plan. The sales guy we started with handed us off to someone else who didn't seem to know what he was doing. Every time I asked him what the hold up was, he gave me some non-commital answer. He had to ask for help at every step of the process and was distracted by other customers. I will probably not use them again and hope they look at their Yelp reviews because they seriously need to improve the experience for their customers. read more

DO NOT SHOP HERE!!!! I called for information on a remote starter....I clearly stated that I wanted just the basic starter. I also asked about the Smart Start. The salesman, Cosmo, never explained the costs associated with the Smartstart only that it works thru your phone. When I dropped my car off, the counter person never explained the charges either. I went to pick up my vehicle and they screwed up the install by not properly completing the online registration. NOW they expect me to fix It! Several of the counter staff including the manager had no idea how the Smart Start system worked. The Install manager tried to correct the problem but gave up and told me that I would have to contact Viper on Monday and get it fixed on my own. I know have a $259 Icon on my smartfone! read more

Take your money elsewhere!!! I purchased the Groupon for car detailing $89, bad idea and I purchased $55 for the pet package and $45 for hot water extract on my back seats (I had one small stain) the guy told me if you buy the hot water extract that "it will really help lift the stain". I wish I took my money else where. I spent an additional $105. I had to send my car back a second time and did it the same day to get the rest of the pet hair out (mind you not all of it was gone even after the second time around) and I asked them if they could do better on getting the stain out since I paid extra $45 dollars (they scrubbed the crap out of it (not good)). It probably would've been better if I did it myself. I told Car Toys I'd rather have my money back, but they "do not refund labor." I felt ripped off and taken advantage of, the job completed the 2nd time wasn't up to my expectations. Not only that but after I spoke to the manager about the situation he raised his voice and I could tell he was getting frustrated (bad customer service). Oh and my car mats still looked like they had dirt on them, they suggested I come back to have them re-done but I'd rather not because I don't want them to screw up that material too! I ended paying almost $200 all together, which I could've paid someone else to do the job better (this other company quoted me for $200 which included the exterior wash). "At Car Toys, we set a higher standard for car detailing with the finest car detailing supplies and products, the best equipment and expertly trained car detailing professionals that work in concert to produce a clean, spotless car inside and out." ----- My car was not spotless inside and I paid extra for that I won't go back here again. I'm always apprehensive about bringing by car in for audio work. The truth is, there was a point when I did it myself, but these days I just want to save some time and aggravation. Not the case with my experience at Car Toys. First let me say that my appointment was 1-2 months ago. Because I drive a German car, I was told that the work was only done by one tech at the shop. I was also told that bringing in the car first thing in the morning would ensure they could get to work promptly. I showed up on a Saturday and was the first one there to be helped. This is EARLY mind you. I figured that if I was first in line, well shoot that's great. They also let me know that there was only one other car in the bay at that time and that I would be next. Something must have happened, because my car wasn't ready until closing. While I initially thought that I could have it back in a few hours, it became a full-day affair. I decided the day was over and I'd pick up the car the next day instead. When I arrived in the AM, I was shown the car by a younger guy who said he had done the work. This wasn't the German car "specialist" I was told was going to complete the job and the kid said he was training with him. A bit annoying, but I tolerated it. Secondly, the kid tells me that everything has been installed, but I need to go to BMW to get my stereo coded to work properly with my newly installed iphone/BT connector. Now, truth be told I did buy this part to have it installed versus purchasing something from Car Toys, but I figured I did my research and was entitled to use the products that I wanted to use. With a mixture of anger and resignation I left with my car and began dialogue with BMW. After some lengthy communication, BMW decided that they were going to help me with the coding...even though they said that this was something that Car Toys should have been responsible for. After a few weeks, I was able to get the car in and have them take a look. After they successfully coded the stereo, they told me that the car would still not play music so they had to check it out. I soon got a call back stating that the reason the car was not playing music was due to improper wiring of my iphone/bluetooth unit. I'm not the typical irate customer who storms into a place and asks for their money back...that's just not my style. Additionally, it would mean more time and effort than I really feel that this place deserves. I also won't say all the service was bad either, there were a couple of nice kids working there and the kid who messed up my deck should have had some better supervision. Other staff at the place, however, reminded me of the stereo section back in the Circuit City days when they made commission off of how many speakers they could sell a deaf old lady; I digress. The truth is that Car Toys seems like it needs a serious facelift to its organization and time management abilities. Don't tell a customer to come in at 8am when you won't have their car ready until closing time. That's just ridiculous. Also, make sure when something is installed it doesn't have to go anywhere else but home with the customer. BMW went the extra mile to get this problem solved, and it included outreaching another company in the Boulder area. That's at least something those goofballs at Circuit City back in the 90's would have done too. read more

Let me start by saying that "I will NEVER use this place again!" I could go in to one of my diatribes about ALL the things this store did wrong, but the short and sweet of it is they did SO much wrong. More than anything the customer service is absolutely AWFUL. I had to go back to the store several times and my car stereo is still NOT where it should be and how quickly they dismissed me at the store recently led me to say...'Ok, we're done.' When I first bought my system and left the store, I looked up to see two sales associates Hi-Five. That didn't instill a ton of confidence, I'll tell you that. Then they forgot to install the steering wheel controls so I had to make time to go back and leave my car for several hours. On top of that, the Sirius receiver stopped working the day after I drove off and hasn't worked since. Bottom line, they barely made an apology and I got the impression that I was bothering them. For the money people spend at a place like this.....you'd think they would have a higher standard of excellence when in fact it's a bunch of boys who don't have a sliver of professionalism. Installation occurred back in May of 2014. At the time I was pretty pleased with the install - sound was okay, in retrospect I should've spent more money (Already paid $2,300) to bump up to a nicer amplifier to get rid of all white noise and distortion. The RMS level of the in dash amplifier was not enough to power the Head Unit and JL Speakers I had installed. Great job installing the Dynamat which they talked me to into last second. I work on my cars myself, a large part of why I decided to pay the labor fee for CarToys to perform the installation is the promise on being able to remove the aftermarket stereo and head unit when I was ready to sell the car. I went in Wednesday (March 11th) to book my appointment and couldn't have been more pleased at the salesperson's attentiveness to my needs and ease of booking an appointment now that I am selling the car. I came in this morning (March 13th) and was told that it would cost me money to remove my double din headunit and stereo system (I think we began the cost at half the labor of install). I think I was misled and misunderstood the removal of the system since the beginning. At no time was I told that for the system I was installing it would cost me money to remove. I found the true value in CarToys performing the installation was also performing the removal. Unfortunately - I either misunderstood this or was misled at the time of the sale. Very disappointed by the end customer service in how I was handled after spending $2,300 on a system and labor. I will be removing the headunit and speakers myself this weekend to reinstall my stock system. Will be fun! read more

I had a Kenwood stereo and speakers installed in my truck 3 years ago. The stereo stopped working recently and I took it back to Car Toys. The response was "Your stereo is fried. Want us to put another one in?" I was apparently outside Kenwood's 1 year manufacturing warranty. I am extremely disappointed they recommended and installed such low grade equipment. I was told that the mean time to failure for electronics (at least ones they deal in) is 4-5 years. read more

After looking at a few radio tuners for iPods elsewhere, BF suggested we look at stereos as well. For around a $30 price difference, we were imagining that we could get a new stereo instead of just some janky cord thing. Our set-up in the '94 Honda POS wasn't terrible, but I was really annoyed at having to have to take the time to tune the radio and fiddle with multiple cords every time I wanted to listen to my own music in the car. We figured that the investment would be worth it and traipsed over to Car Toys from the Best Buy. At this point, I thought I knew exactly what I wanted and the sales guy seemed to know his stuff. He was able to explain each of the 4 options in our price range and helped us pick out the right one. We told him our concerns about price and he just kept nodding his head telling us we were getting a great deal. When it came time to pay, he told us the installation was $40 and there was another $25 fee that guaranteed us against something going wrong (but not an extension on the factory warranty). I couldn't help but feel like it was weird to pay that extra $25, but BF said it was fine. Originally they told us it was going to take 2 hours to install that day, but it ended up taking right around an hour. We killed some time at Barnes & Noble and ate dinner at Whole Foods, so it wasn't time wasted. When we had a question about one of the features Mr. Sales Guy had promised, another employee knew exactly what to do without even looking at our model. Overall, not a bad experience, but I wish I had been smart enough to shop around a little more before making my purchase. It turns out Best Buy would have been like, $10 cheaper (system + installation), but in the end I'm happy with what we got. read more

My kids had trashed my car, and I got a groupon to get it detailed. Not only did they do a great job getting it clean, but I found out that they can do interior work. For a really good price, one of the guys added padding and new upholstery to my console and doors. It's made my car interior look infinitely better. Used a Groupon for detailing. Even with the discount, it wasn't worth it. I was told to clean out the glove compartment and middle compartment or they wouldn't clean in there, so I did, but they did clean them. They do some ozone thing that takes hours, but I'm not sure what the point was, couldn't tell the difference. Then they washed my seats, which were already treated and had no stains, but were streaked and weird looking when I picked up the car. They suggested I bring it back for more complete cleaning (after they stained it). Ultimately, my car gets cleaner at the local do-it-yourself. Did I meantion it took about 5 hours? read more

Run from these CROOKS I went in this morning to have them diagnose a problem with my car radio that they had installed. Without even looking at they told me that it would be "cheaper to replace then repair". I then was dragged through a horrific sales process by 3 guys that didn't know the products, didn't listen to my needs and only cared about closing the sale for the highest price possible. Then I was exposed to what I can best describe as a fraudulent bait and switch technique where they literally made up the installation fees out of thin air. The dialogue between the 3 guys was "what do we usually charge for that" or "maybe he needs this". By the time they were done I was quoted almost $700. I wisely left and drove down the road to a small independent audio installer who figured out my problem and installed a new head unit. Less than $400 out the door for a nicer system then what these clowns tried to sell me. Do your self a favor and avoid CAR TOYS BOULDER. If I could give them negative stars I would. read more

Overall great experience. I'm not a hardcore audiophile or tech person but the sales crew explained all options well and rolled good, better, best price options. Didn't feel hustled or nickel and dimed. Next day install was quick and efficient as they completed work an hour earlier than expected. They gave me a great tutorial and set some things up for me to make my life way easier. Install crew came out and helped me with another issue I was having with remote locks / start. I have never had such a great detailing job. It looks amazing. They also cleaned my 2 friends cars and I can't believe they got grease stains, food smells, and 5 years of havoc from a now 6 year old. Don't go here if you can avoid it. We had a handsfree Bluetooth kit installed in our 2007 Murano and they had the car for almost 7 hrs. When we went to puck it up, it would not start. They jumped it and we drove it home but it didn't start the next morning. When we brought it back, they claimed that the car had check engine light on and a weak battery when we brought it in. Long story slightly less long...after being without the vehicle for the better part of a week, the Nissan dealer determined that they had connected something improperly causing a draw.
