We were sold a stereo and accessories which were not compatible with some of the features in our vehicle. After the instal we had issues with speakers not being connected...wires hanging down in front of the gas pedal which snagged my wifes foot when she was driving on the highway. It was an absolute mess. And a dangerous one at that. My advice would be to find a higher end store that actually knows their products and how to install them correctly. I was very close to uninstalling the stereo myself and ordering a chargeback from my bank since these clowns don't honor any type of return. Be warned! A blonde/brown haired girl with glasses was seemingly very helpful initially, demonstrating the sound quality of the various speakers, and doing her best to answer my questions. However when I saw my quote my intuition told me something was off. There was 2 separate installation fees of $488 dollars. "3 hours for the speakers, and 3 hours for the amp/subwoofer". When she was showing me the screen with the list of services it seemed like she glossed over it quickly not really wanting to explain in detail. I very much sensed that due to my lack of knowledge on car audio systems she thought she could rip me off. The total was 2,700 and change. I went to Best Buy and it was only slightly lesser quality and the installation fee and all came to around 900. Not good business practice. I'd want to keep my customers. Do better. read more

I came here to have my Drone Remote Start removed from my 2019 Jeep Cherokee. I called 1 hr prior to ensure they were open. A woman answered the phone and she was very friendly and helpful with my questions. I showed up later with no appointment, and was helped immediately. After around 50 mins and $150 later, I was on my way. It was quick and everyone was super friendly. (Sorry I don't remember the names of the two men that helped me!!) I cannot say this strongly enough these guys are completely incompetent I went in here over three months ago for a relatively straightforward replacement of my stock stereo and speakers with something more modern. I have a 1990 Chevrolet truck with a factory AC Delco. I picked out a couple of speakers and the guy behind the counter helps me pick out a stereo. He said it was at another store and he could have it there in about a week. I agreed, paid for the speakers and left with his assurance that he would call me when it came in. It's now been OVER three months, and all I have is a couple speakers, still in their box. No calls, no follow ups, and after calling twice to find them seeming irritated at the fact that I interrupted their smoke break to talk to them, no desire to ever do business with this company ever again. I went in to get my Kenwood Excellon fixed. It kept shutting off and turning on at random . Was told it needed a software update however the update might disable my steering wheel controls. So I asked to just have it replaced. They said no I had to do the software update. If that didn't work to send it in. Then I would be without it until they fixed it in 2 to 6 weeks. That was not good enough for me so I asked for a replacement. Finally I knew I was going to be out of town for an extended period and I dropped the stereo off at car toys to send in for exam and either fixing or replacement. It has now been going on for 4 months and I still have no resolution the stereo has not been sent in and they are now asking for video evidence. This would be illegal since a is in random and I would have to keep the camera all the time. I would also be driving and taking a photograph at the same time which would be illegal. I'm asking for my money back for the extended warranty or simply replace it at this point now I have to wait again another week to get an answer on that. Waiting more than 20 minutes while employees stood idle is not impatience; in fact, they were given far more grace than they deserved. If you're busy, that's fine. I'd never fault you for that. But laziness ("it's over there!"), indifference, or downright aggressive apathy towards customers is inexcusable. Shop elsewhere. Even online, you will have a better experience. Received an Interior detailing package with the 30-min odor Neutralizer. My vehicle was in and out within 30 mins but work done was unsatisfactory. Essentially paid $70 for a promo on this package, expressed to the man working on my car that a baby is coming so I need a real good clean interior. The interior wasn't dressed or wiped down or nothing. Felt like he only vacuumed the floor mats and did the odor Neutralizer. Nothing more, nothing less. The Car Toys staff I worked with at the Gateway location, provided me exceptional customer service, extensive product knowledge and a quality installation, but the pricing on their website is a little misleading. I needed an alarm system for my 2003 Toyota Tacoma, so I asked my mechanic who he recommended. He said Car Toys, mostly because of their quality installation. The Car Toys website is easy to navigate and provides much of the information you need to be prepared. After reviewing that, I did some further research on the alarm systems they carry (Compustar and Viper) which showed they are well respected, quality products at reasonable prices. I showed up around an hour after they opened on a Monday, and I was immediately greeted by Kaylee and Richie as I walked through the door. They carefully listened to my situation and consulted with their installation technician Jacob before advising me on their recommendation, all within a few minutes. They recommended was the Compustar CS697. As far as the installation scheduling, they have a walk-in model. And while I couldn't schedule a time for the following day, they could get my truck in after finishing up the vehicle they were working which gave me just enough time to run home and grab my laptop to hang out in their waiting area during the installation. A nice surprise! They also offer vehicle detailing, so Richie followed me out to my truck to discuss another issue. The driver's side paint had become hazy and developed some old wax runs down the side that I wasn't able to remove with regular waxing. He explained that their Classic Exterior service could take care of those so I may come back for that at another time. During the installation, Jacob explained the different places where he could install the LED light. I appreciated that he took the time to do that and did not just place it randomly. I'm all about detail, so we found a spot in a blank axillary panel that looks finished and is visible. One area of concern and/or disappointment is the Car Toys pricing. The ad on their web site stated the cost of the CS 697 is $179.99, but it also states there may be additional costs. The total cost ended up being $358.99, essentially double the price in the ad, since they added on an additional $140 for labor, and 2 shops fees: $18 and $21. Just be prepared, that you're probably going to pay much more than their web site advertisement. When I got home, I realized that I didn't have the window stickers or the remote instructions, so I made a trip back. I guess we both share the responsibility on those. Another concern was that I understood the installation would take about 2.5 hours, but I didn't leave until just over 4 hours later. I probably should have factored in that Jacob was the only tech that day, and my timing did cross over the lunch hour. Just be aware of that if you schedule an installation. At the end of the day, I'm pretty satisfied with the alarm system and the experience. I'm not sure that I got the best product to fit my needs, but to me, receiving good customer service is just as important as getting a quality product and they were good which is truly exceptional these days. I could have done a little more research, but my main goal was to get a working security system. All in all, I think I would likely go back if I needed anything more for my vehicles. read more

This was one of the best auto work experiences I've ever had. I was referred to this place by my mechanic. I was told that if I brought in the factory part needing to be replaced (in my case, replacing a broken USB/aux port in my 2012 Subaru Forester) they would be able to do it for me, they just couldn't provide the part themselves. I found the factory certified part on Ebay for half what the dealership was selling it for, brought it in expecting at least an hour's worth of work, as quoted on the phone. This shop had me out in 30 minutes, and I ended up paying around $100 total which included the $70 I spent on the part from Ebay. The repair was great and my USB is connecting perfectly to the sound system. Subaru had quoted me $450 altogether, so I am very happy. The staff I spoke to were friendly, respectful, and efficient. I will 100% be back - this is my new shop for repairs and additions I can't DIY! read more

I was having an interlock device installed at the Gateway store on Halsey. After installation I went to leave, but my emergency brake was not working when it was working fine before I went there. I came in to report it wasn't working and asked to have it fixed the way it was, which I did not have time for. The installer responsible named Matt came out to fix it. He proceeded to speak to me in a condescending and rude tone and made sarcastic comments, as if I was in the wrong for being frustrated that my emergency brake was now broken, even though he was responsible for it being broken to begin with. I can't believe they were going to let me drive away without my emergency brake working. I came in to report this terrible customer service experience and the specific behavior of Matt to the opening manager. I asked for the name and phone number contact for the store manager since he couldn't do anything. The opening manager looked for a business card briefly, he couldn't find one, then proceeded to let me stand there and wait while he took a bunch of calls. The assistant manager arrived, and I reported the incident to him. He stood there with a smirk on his face smiling while I was noticeably upset explaining the terrible customer service I just experienced. He gave me the name of the store manager and the store number to contact, which the 'opening manager' could have easily done instead of letting me wait. The assistant manager also told me that there were other stores I could go to if I was not happy with the service there. How about DO BETTER! HOW ABOUT TRAIN YOUR EMPLOYEES ON PROPER CUSTOMER SERVICE AND TAKING ACCOUNTABILITY FOR THEIR MISTAKES AND NOT BEING RUDE TO CUSTOMERS. I payed almost $200 for an interior car DETAIL with fabric seats. My whole car is tan colored and I'm pleased with how well they did on the parts of my car that they actually did cleaned. My floor mats look brand new, all my plastic look very clean and nice etc.. The reason for the poor rating is because they FORGOT many things to clean!! Poor attention to detail! Some surfaces were completely untouched in my car. 1: For example- my center console was completely untouched inside and out. Inside was still gross to the sight and touch (eww) and outside of my center console from the back seat view still had all the muddy water spots from having dogs in my car after the park as they did before the detail. This area is easily accessible and the spots are super easy to get off, one simple wipe would do but they simply didn't even wipe this area... 2: Also my back door cupholder was completely untouched-- was still filled with dog hair and dirt and was not wiped. 3: Third, I was expecting them to vacuum my ceiling at least a little bit and clean my seat belts? It's called a detail...are these simple things not included when says "vacuuming of fabric/carpet" (Ceilings are the same fabric as my floor!!!) There is still dog hair and people hair up there and now I get to vacuum it along with wiping down all the other things they forgot. 4: Lastly, the upper part of my foot boards in the front seats they didn't touch with a vacuum or "hot water extraction" which says to be included in the description of the detail purchase online as well. Same pine needles, and crushed leaves from outside remained after I got my car back. (Before and after pictures I took are the same.) Overall, I would say this wasn't a very good "detail" and I do not recommend for the price (I know of other places that do way better for slightly cheaper) but was a "Quick vacuum, wipe down, window cleaning ($110), and good seat shampooing ($88)." I received a gift card for a "expressto interior and exterior detailing for my car. I scheduled the appointment a week in advance. Arrived and they claimed to have no record of the appointment. They agreed to do it anyway. I believe the gift giver paid about 160.00 for this gift card. The service I receive was no where that value. They essentially wiped down the interior (dusted and vacuumed) and washed the outside of the car. It was no better than the 10.00 wash I get at WashMan. I asked about having the hard water spots removed from the car and windows but that's a whole other "package". Additionally, they tried to charge me an additional 16.00 for "materials". I call AAA and they not only jump the car but tells me that the system in the car is draining the battery and that I don't need a new battery I just need to have the battery recharged to the proper levels. (AAA saved me $400 on a new battery) I drive off from the shop and there is a wire burning smell and it is epic bad. this is all so crazy Michal at getaround talked bad to me and told me the car was not working because of something I did, and that their system shows that I'm not properly operating their app. I ask to speak with a supervisor, and he tells me the supervisor can't and won't do no more than he is. Now to top it all off getaround is sending me a bill to pay them for the devices and Michal says I can take the cars and have the device uninstalled and I said, where and he said the same car toy that Messed it up in the first place. all 3 cars will not start and getaround keeps sending me tickets talking about the issue is solved and closed. I would give zero stars, if I could. These lying, conniving, con-artist employees have misled and misrepresented themselves, my invoice and any semblance of installation (after PRE-PAYING FOR THEIR LABOR) at every opportunity. I assume because they are too busy installing their overpriced stereo systems, to bother with my sub-$300 project. What was originally agreed upon to take a weekend to complete has taken two weeks to fulfill delivery on after I was promised and paid for next-day delivery. I made them refund the shop-time and labor ($165.00) I prepaid for, but only after I was verbally abused, at length, by one of the many fart-can-Honda-driving-asshats that works at the Halsey location. I suppose he thought I was going to be some meek, apologetic chump after he tried to puff up and flex on me with his meager, shitty retail powers; but I was in the military for almost a decade and this shit only serves to trigger my righteous indignation. I give better than I get, in regard to verbal abuse of any stripe, and I had that little turd running for the back office, tail tucked between his legs, while a better, kinder, more empathetic employee shooed him away and proceeded to provide a refund for unspent labor funds. So much for the "special shipping lead-times we get through this supplier" line, eh? Don't waste your time or money on this place. They will triage your build and backburner projects halfway done before starting them again, if something more lucrative comes through the door, leaving gaps in the completed projects. They will obfuscate lead-times for deliveries and straight-up lie about special vendor relationships that don't exist in order to charge you for absolutely nothing. They will tack on extra parts at the point of purchase and then claim that they're "required" and "I forgot to mention it earlier." I bought stuff from this store all the time. This time I want to install an alarm and was given an estimate price of around $300.00 for labor. I went over to the store with the alarm unit, making sure it possible to install my alarm and rough price for the task. My son took the car over there and they want to charge me $600.00 to remove the old alarm and install customer provided alarm system. The store manager playing game and on the website, a new alarm plus installation is around $409.00. I called another Car Toy (Clackamas) store and they quoted me around $300.00 plus or minus for the same job. I got it installed there for the price I was quoted. I spend thousands of dollar in this particular store and this how I was treated. I'm so disappointed in the management and I hope the store owner reading this. Store manager saying one price and technician quote another price. It bad business practice. I came into the Halsey store to have 4 Rockford Fosgate door speakers installed in my Girlfriend's Honda CRV. I had considered installing them myself, so I did a YouTube search on how it is done. I decided, however, to have them professionally installed. When I came in, I asked to have ALL of the original packaging returned to me, and the girl at the counter seemed to have made a note of it on the sheet I signed. Before leaving, I spoke to the installer about the job, specifically citing the issue with the factory baskets and speaker depth. He said that there would be an additional charge, which I agreed to. I left a $275 deposit and went on my way. I eventually got a call from the installer saying that it would be "$50 to cut the baskets, or $100 to cut the spacers." Because we had already talked about the process, I opted for the spacers instead of the basket cutting. When I came to pick up the car, I was asked for yet another $100. When I asked the girl what it was for, she seemed to have no idea. She looked like she tried to find someone to ask, but came back quickly with..."to cut the baskets." I was a little confused at this statement, but I was tired and wanted to get home. When I got around to opening the factory packaging to retrieve my grilles, I found something disturbing. First, the original packaging that I asked to have returned to me was missing most of the contents. Secondly, the speaker baskets that were "cut" were fully intact. When I made contact with the manager, he did not make things any better. He started by saying that the installer "probably threw away the grilles..." Well, that is a bunch of baloney. I asked to have ALL of the original packaging be returned, but only some items were. I asked him, if he threw away the grilles, why not the rest of the packaging? He didn't have a word to say. As far as the overcharge, he began to make the case that it was $100 extra each pair to complete the install. This was infuriating. I knew what the process was to install the speakers, I had gone to the website to confirm the prices of shop services, and I spoke to the installer TWICE about the additional cost/service. The manager attempted to get me to believe that it would cost $100 extra PER PAIR. Well, I can tell you from personal experience, it does not take 2 hours to cut 4 circles out of particle board. $75 to install a door speaker, but $100 to cut two wooden circles?! Insulting. So, to recap... I brought a car in to have 4 door speakers installed. I knew the process and estimated cost. The counter staff had absolutely no idea what services had been done to the car, so she overcharged me. I think the installer saw some cool grilles from a product that his location doesn't carry, so he stole them. When I made contact with the manager, he ran cover for him saying that maybe he threw them away. He then tried to get me to believe that it would cost more for wooden circles than for the install itself. After going back and forth over the phone a bit more than we should have, he eventually agreed to refund the $100 overcharge and offered me 4 substitute grilles, since the installer threw mine away.... Car Toys has been my go-to for years, but I will NEVER use this location again. Although my issue has been corrected as well as possible, I am still sore that the installer stole the stuff I specifically asked to keep and the "manager" tried to get me to pay $200 for four 6.5 inch round wooden circles. So here's mine: I'm not sure about the extremes with customer service reviews. I didn't notice anything egregious, or exceptional about them per say. I think they were alright in a formal aspect (using my proper pronouns etc...), but of course that's all sales, so it doesn't speak to the true character of the employees. It was ultimately the consequence of forgoing a thorough explanation and depth of knowledge at initial contact, which translated to a lack of transparency, losing them some respect. All this in spite of the cordial face to face customer service. As a rideshare driver, I arrived under the impression that the addition of a USB/DVD/Android Audio din would enhance my overall car experience, not consolidate the usage to a single usb port; notwithstanding only being able to use Android Audio while my customers have a working USB port to charge their devices on. The one thing the former customers are 100% correct about is estimate part. I would have been more than willing to pay the difference, had I known it would mean having at least two USB ports working simultaneously. Sure it costs more, but for ride-sharing (\which is self-employment) it's a tax write-off. Despite a test run on the original USB port, discovery that it holds a weak charge (which the tech was relieved it even did), it still doesn't hold the same charge as the original port. The worst part of all was after restarting, re-downloading and re-updating my phone, 3 hours later the Android Audio still doesn't work. Isn't this program the software vehicle driving Car Toys sales? Great concept, in theory but when you pay in the neighborhood of $700 and that function is void, because 'it's probably a virus on your phone' or 'it just needs a software update' you begin to question the character of a company that would have employees install this on customer's smart phones en mass. I'm not going to give them 1, or 2 because the employees were "nice"... at least to my face and still I might end up having to take this to another level (face palms). read more

went there to have them install a back up camera they quoted me over $400 to do it I told him I thought that was ridiculous went to another place and they charge me $150 to do it I called car toys back and told them that they were a rip off and that they were out stealing from people I would never do business with them ever nor would I recommend anyone else ever do business with these guys they are thieves read more

The customer service at this Car Toys is hands down the worst I have ever experienced, and I have Comcast for cable. I went to have equipment installled yesterday. I had an appointment but still waited 30 minutes before i could talk to someone. The kid qho ran my order was decent and professional. When i went back to pick up my vehicle, the installer who went over everything was rude, condescending andunderwhelmed us with his knowledge of rhw products they sell. read more

I'm actually shocked by how bad my experience was today. I scheduled my appointment at 9 am and it took nearly 20 minutes to drop my car off to anyone. Had my car for 8 hours and when I went to pick it up they attempted to charge me 248$ for the 199$ "ultimate detailing service" they have listed on their website. No where online does it say rates are subject to change. To add to this horrible service they forgot to return my ashtray and other components forcing me to drive back and relive the frustration. Feel dumb for trusting a speaker store with my interior. Mediocre to poor job all the way round. read more

Went to get stereo installed for sons car had a free installation special. I already had the dash kit and harness purchased prior from them. As well as had the dash unscrewed. All they had to do was screw it in the sleeve and plug in the harness. The guy tell Me it would be another 100 for installation as the free was for the basic basic installation. Which I asked him what is more basic then plugging in a harness and putting the screws back in . No answer pretty much told me the free installation was a scam a lie to just get you in the store. They get away stating for most vehicles. Which means all vehicles. No one has ever gotten free installation there. Really sad a company thar big must resort to false advertising and lying to there customers. Makes you feel really good about trusting them with your car. I will pay the 100 extra to go to a smaller local honest company who doesn't false advertise and lie to there customers. read more
