I'm very disappointed in this car place. My son took his car there to have a tire looked at. They replaced 2 tires without giving him a quote prior to doing any work. The car could have been taken to a family tire place. This is the second time that this place has tried to take advantage of a college student. The 1st time it didn't work, unfortunately this time they were successful. A 1 star rating isn't warrented as I think they are pretty dishonest. read more

The service has been horrible. They told me that it would take 2 days to complete and $400. Now it has been over 15 days and each time I have called they have given me the run around with no updates. My headlight was out in the car. I had bought a replacement bulb, but was unable to install it myself. Went to Car-X and they said it would cost me $140.00 to replace a headlight bulb. I declined. Went to where I normally get my oil changed (Valvoline oil) just now, and they put both bulbs in for free. Car--X was going to rip me off for $140.00. Not happy at all!!!!!! read more

Great experience and pricing! I was traveling from out of town late on a Friday when my brakes started acting funny. Called around to several businesses who either couldn't get me in or were just rude. Finally landed on these guys and they acted concerned and squeezed me in. First I called and ask when they can do it oil change on my 2001 Mercedes ML 320. I had a coupon from the paper that said oil change plus tire rotation $19.99. He first told me that they don't have a pump to pump it out of the top of the engine. I called Mercedes after and they said they don't know anything about pumping oil out of the top of the engine They said it has a drain plug just like any other car. Then the guy at car X said that they didn't have an opening for an oil change till December 17 and it was December 3. Was it because they didn't want to honor a oil change coupon. Or did the guy just not know what he was talking about. I believe in my opinion it was they didn't want to honor the coupon. Backed up for 14 days to do a oil change. I'm sorry I was across the road at Hooters when I called and saw in their parking lot only 3 cars it. And I believe it was the same car as I saw the parking lot that Sunday when I went in they were closed. Rating is for customer service. read more

This place does not care about its customers! I took my 2007 Malibu in, because I was experiencing vibrations when I got over 55 mph., and my brakes were squeaking. Over $1,000 later, they did fix a few things that were broken, but the vibrations continued. One of things they had supposedly serviced were the brakes. They said that they lubricated them. Sounded kind of hokey to me, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Well now the vibrations are way worse, and they tell me it is because one of my front breaks seized up. Of course that made everything heat up really badly, and so of course the front brakes need completely rebuilt. Call me crazy, but if they serviced my brakes last time, shouldn't they be responsible for the damage to my brakes?! What did they lubricate if my brakes are seized up!? They didn't even attempt to make it right with me. After complaining, they said the best they could do for me was 10% off! I know that things happen, but clearly if they would have done anything worthwhile to my brakes, they would not have seized up and cost me $600 to replace! So the 10% covers a little more than refunding the cost of the brake service that they supposedly did. In the mean time, I have to come out of pocket for an additional $600 for something that very well could have been prevented! If it weren't for the fact that they supposedly serviced the brakes I wouldn't blame them, but if they would have fixed my brakes like I asked them to I wouldn't be paying to completely rebuild my front brakes. I WILL NEVER GO HERE AGAIN! read more

These ratings from 4 years ago aren't reliable anymore. I've never had any issues bringing my car in for multiple issues. From replacing/fixing one of my front control arm, calipers, altinator, lug bolts, brake lines, and oil changes I've never had any issue. Staff is always friendly and pretty flexible. Whatever problems these other yelpers had they've obviously fixed them. read more

They are friendly and have good prices. However, they made a couple mistakes during an oil change for my VW. First they put in regular oil when we had asked for synthetic. They fixed their mistake for free. Second, we had an oil leak after the oil change. They fixed the leak and refilled our oil for free, but still I haven't been back in a while. read more

The assistant manager and the mechanic, Roger, are great. They were honest with what needed repaired and what didn't ("you could fix this now if you want, but it can wait") with regards to my budget. They always call with quotes and advice before they fix anything, and they always call whenever the car is fixed. I can not say enough about how helpful Keenan and the entire staff at Car x were to me. My check engine light came on while I was in West Lafayette on a Saturday around 2:00. Even though the store was going to be closed at 3, they still looked into what could be causing the problem and gave me the diagnosis. Don't go here. Would never recommend it after my experience. My car was having some problems, took it in and got a over priced bad diagnosis. Wouldn't have even known if I hadn't taken it somewhere else- saved over a hundred dollars and potentially my life.
