Carbon Health is still the cheapest place around to get a sports physical. They always have a summer sale...smart thinking! Staff was friendly. The healthcare provider was thorough and pleasant. The biggest downside to this appointment was the wait time... We waited close to an hour to be seen even with an appointment. I made an online appointment for 4:45pm...but it sounded like they were super busy that afternoon. Everyone apologized for the wait time and thanked us for our patience. I had an amazing experience at Carbon Health Urgent care today. They are covered by my insurance and didn't ask for any type of payment. I made an appointment the same day, signed forms online, check in was easy. The front desk lady was nice. I waited maybe 3 minutes to be called back. The PA Akema was wonderful, attentive and informative. I was convinced I had strep throat, she did a rapid strep test and offered a steroid shot. STEER CLEAR AWAY! My 19 year old son was seen and paid his visit in cash. Then I got a charge for the same amount on my card without any notification. My son has not visited a Carbon Health Facility for over 4 years. Take your cards off their file. They double charge you! And they never asked my son for his email, or credit information at 19 years old! Red Flag!!! And I had to call 3 times to get my issue resolved. Let's see if they actually refund my card. Incompetent, rude, uncaring staff; avoid. Showed for a 3 year old's ear infection, had an appointment from the night before, arrived early before 9am and was told they were closed because the lobby lights would not turn on (but the back area was light and bright), then asked to speak with a manager or doctor; was told no one was available and to try San Marcos (location not even open until 130pm) or call a number, which is just a voice-mail box. It gets better, so then another woman in all black medical clothes comes to the front doors to let out an electrician, she opens the door and he departs, I proceed to ask from outside my car parked in front of the door 10ft away about my son's appointment, she pauses, stares for a second, says not one single word, then closes it real quick and locks it like I am an active shooter and walks away. If you don't care about children, appointments, and your duty to care, the you should not be in the medical industry, find another job, and this location should be closed permanently. This was a complete waste of time, gas, no assistance, no explanation beyond lobby lights (plenty of windows and light), no reasonable accommodation for the appointment they cancelled. If their computer was down or something, I would better understand that, but that was not stated, and the doctor or nurse just ignoring me and locking the door without speaking is ridiculous, this is a service economy, and you are in a service job, do your job. read more

Seen by Akemi Smith, PA. No real exam just " yea that's what you have, here is scrip." Billed Medicare $575 !! My sister in law had the same diagnosis a month earlier at urgent care on El Camino Real & Medicare was billed $266. So the above group charged $309 More for same thing. Whole place was clean, the staff were efficient, thoughtful, clearly knowledgeable. Parking is a little crazy with Trader Joes next door, but was able to find something relatively quickly. We applied your out-of-network benefits and have finalized your bill." Seriously this was a huge headache to fix and my insurance luckily fought their overpriced charge since it was proven that this location lied about what insurance companies they are in net work with. When I asked her how she knew my email, she shrugged her shoulders. Beware of going to this facility, no privacy. I checked my account this morning and $1.00 was withdrawn. I went in for a TB test and a simple physical. The doctors for my TB test were great however when I came back two days later for my results and the physical, I was placed with Dr. Akemi Smith who made me feel beyond embarrassed and ashamed during my physical. She didn't show any remorse when I was clearly holding back tears after her harsh words. I left absolutely embarrassed. This was my first negative experience with Carbon Health. I've been two other times both of which were fine but my experience with Dr. Smith was rather unpleasant. read more

Service was great. My issue is with billing. When I came in i asked if they accepted my insurance and was told yes. I have BCBS of Michigan PPO. Come to find out my insurance was not in network. Always check your insurance even if they say they are providers. Learn from my $400 ear infection mistake. I have no problem paying $200 for the first visit but when I was asked to come in for a follow up (which I would not have scheduled) and then charge $200 since my insurance didn't cover I feel they are just money grabbing. Edit; they automatically charge your credit card for your balance even if you ask for a payment plan. You can never get ahold of a real person when trying to reach billing. This team at this location is really good. Very straight forward, polite, and professional. Like most people, my primary care doctor takes WAY TOO LONG to get basic blood workups, X-RAYS, and appointments. These guys are a nice convenient intermediary in that they can address many of the things you might otherwise go to the doctor for. Who wants to wait 1+ month to get into see a doctor when you can head over here when you need to and get squared away. The facilities are clean and modern, the onboarding process is expedient, and the Carbon app for IOS and ANDROID makes things even easier. If you just need some blood work, some X-RAYS, treatment of minor issues that may be too much for home but not nearly enough for the ER, go here. I will say that if you need bloodwork results NOW, still go to the ER as it will take about 3-5 days to get results back (I believe even sooner but that's the average I was given). Be very careful going to this place. I went here after talking to my insurance and after I presented my insurance card to them and before I got seen. I made a copayment before the visit. Over a year and a half later they withdrew almost $200 from my bank account saying that my insurance was not covered. The lady then said "oh we got partnered with your insurance -a few months later or something like that." It sounds like they're running a scam out of this office. You're gonna go there when you're feeling ill... your insurance is going tell you that office is the one you're supposed to go to if you need to see the urgent care office. You go, you present your insurance card to them and make a copayment but don't be surprised if a year or two years later, they withdraw out of your account two to $500 saying that you owe them for the visit. I called my insurance before I went and they told me that this was the anuthorized office for me to go to. When I went to the office, they said yes we take your insurance, you are covered here. I had nothing to worry about. I don't know how hard they really tried to get the money from the insurance, but I have a well-known insurance company: anthem blue cross. Just go there at your own risk. Also, if they took their time to see any of this, they would see that I am covered through the federal government. There's a government shut down right now and they waste no time going after my account when I barely have any money in there as it is. If the group I'm supposed to be in didn't cover for me, they could've continued contacting anthem Blue Cross. Pay cash for your copayment and don't give any of these people your debit card information. Imagine if I had had an xray or something more serious! read more

Woke up today coughing and did not stop for almost 2 hours. I was getting ready to drive down to sharp(where I typically go) and saw their wait times were over an hour. Remembered seeing this urgent care previously so decided to take a look. I able to schedule something 15 mins after. Once I got there they took my insurance, paid my copay and was told someone would come get me shortly. I waited 3-5 mins before Blaze came to get me. Blaze was kind and tried so hard to understand me between coughs. After taking my vitals I was told the provider would come and see me. Akemi came in shortly and heard my lungs, asked some medical questions and said she would be able to get treatment started in clinic. Blaze came back in to give treatment and Akemi came back 15 mins later to recheck my lungs and give me after care instructions. I was in and out in the hour. My cough had subsided and best part is I can breathe!!! I'm so thankful for carbon health. read more

I've visited the clinic for routine labwork twice and both times have been very smooth. The staff always had great customer service each time and created a welcoming environment. The MA who did the blood draw on me did so well that I barely felt the needle. I always forget his name, but he was also great at distracting me from the needle itself. Also called the day before for the pricing, went in today to do the testing and was 2 times more than they had told me yesterday. Spoke to the receptionist and told him I called the day before and showed hime the prices online and he denied the pricing online saying it goes off by State. I did show him that it was under the correct state and region. Still expected the pricing he was giving me besides of the prices online. Never coming here again read more

I had been sick for several days and needed an urgent care option. I found the highly rated Carbon Health on Yelp, called the phone number, and the scheduler (knowledgeable about my insurance coverage and very courteous), got me an appointment as soon as I could get there. The front desk gentleman was also friendly and professional, and I was called in after 2-3 minutes. The vitals nurse, cheerful and obliging, allowed for my special request and took my blood pressure manually instead of using that awful machine that seems to be mandatory everywhere else. Brad Winkel, my PA-C, answered all my questions and concerns, gave a thorough exam for my issues, and confirmed my suspicions. Additional quick tests were also done in their lab (all covered by insurance) to make sure there were no other related problems. He did find an additional issue by exam that was easily treatable with meds. He also answered several related questions to my diagnosis. He never looked at his watch or seemed to be in a hurry. Refreshing... My prescriptions were called in quickly, and when there was a question about one of the meds being covered by my insurance, the staff was on it to solve it. I went straight from their office to the pharmacy, where everything was ready. This was a textbook experience of what a doctor's visit SHOULD be like. I felt like MY interests were being served the entire time. Every person in the chain of staff just seemed like good people. I should also mention the facility was so clean, roomy, the exam chair large and comfortable -- everything was just great. So all I can say is keep up the good work. I want to promote a wonderful new resource in Escondido, Carbon Health Urgent Care. It's open 7 days per week until 7 pm and it accepts Kaiser and other insurances. Tonight my 2 year old put a giant nut up.her nose. We couldn't get it out and she was sobbing. We've had horrific experiences with the local Kaiser ER and I couldn't get any number at Rady's to pick up. At 6:37 (right before they were closing), we went to Carbon Health- located next to Trader Joe's. There was no wait, the lovely women at the front desk gave my daughter stickers, the place was spotless and beautiful, and it was a $15 co-pay l. The Physician's assistant saw her immediately and was so gentle and knowledgeable. He got the nut out in less than 5 minutes. I wanted to cry because I was so grateful they helped our little girl. It pains me to write this review for 3 stars instead of 5, and I want to be clear that the care my kids and I have received at this clinic has been excellent. The PAs who have seen us over the last year we've been going are caring, kind, and very responsive. The staff at the front desk and on the phone are also excellent. The issue is with their billing and back end systems. I've been charged over $500 for services we were told here not covered by our insurance, but then were paid by our insurance. One refund was handled very quickly by the person helping me on the phone. But because their system is not great, it's required a lot of back and forth and she is not able to see some of the payments I've made. I actually had to read some of their own emails back to them because they weren't showing up in their system, and I'm still working to track down other proofs of payment that I can see clearly in my bank account being charged by them, but that they have no record of. If I could be certain that this kind of thing wasn't going to happen again I'd recommend them to anyone in a heartbeat. But we're on a tight budget these days, and this was a rough hit for us. So there it is. I love the people and service, but their finances and communication with insurance is problematic and that's been hard for our family. read more

Warning you will not be seen, even if you have insurance, without putting a credit card on file for them to bill whenever they want. They do not disclose this on the website. THEY ONLY ACCEPT CREDIT/DEBIT. These are nurse practitioners not doctors. READ ALL FORMS WHEN SIGNING on the app or online. In reality it's a six page document; liability releases, blanket consent to treat, blanket release of protected health information, consent to HIV or other tests if their workers come in contact with your body fluids, consent to photographs, consent to text and a bunch of other shady clauses. Unless you agree to all they will not see you. Office visit $145 due at time of service. Go somewhere else where they are more transparent about their policies. read more

would give this place zero stars if i could. never honors appointment times and takes forever to see the doctor. On top of this, i had a false positive for a sickness and had to come in to be retested. Pretty standard procedure, just come in and take the test again more than likely it was negative (it was). I come in to see the doctor and get tested again and she looks me in the eyes and tells me "more than likely you have it", in an incredibly judging tone. Front desk staff is mediocre at best but at least the nurses are amazing. This place just moves like a snail and the primary care provider (Jen) is a b*tch, Brad is fine. I leave this place at least 3 hours past my original appointment time with my whole day f*cked because everyone who works here just doesn't care that their patients have things to do like work or whatever it may be. I leave this place crying or incredibly stressed every time even if im in perfect health. Words cannot describe how much i mf hate this place. They have billed my insurance in the past but this time they just took $500 without my authorization or even a phone call. Didn't send a bill or anything. The first time I used this facility was a few weeks ago. I was very impressed with the PA, Brad, during my initial visit which is why I decided to return. My visit today was with a different PA, Akemi Smith, and it was a less than positive experience. Will never come back if she is the attending PA. Waited for 30 minutes for her to come in and she recommended I use colloidal silver to rinse my nasal passages. There is so much controversy over colloidal silver and this is not a medically endorsed treatment. The PA recommended I use colloidal silver to rinse my nasal passage. Colloidal silver has been declared unsafe by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) since 1999. In fact, the FDA deemed that all over-the-counter products that contain colloidal silver ingredients or silver salts are not generally recognized as safe or effective. Since then, the FDA has not approved any new colloidal silver drugs on the market. I asked for a prescription for antibiotics, and she said that would be unsafe medical practices to prescribe an antibiotic. However, she recommends treatments that I've been banned by the FDA. Her demeanor was not very welcoming either. I thought this would be a great concierge type facility that I could expand from just an urgent care to using for primary care, but if Carbon Health employ's medical practitioners who prescribe unfounded and unsafe homeopathic treatments this will not be a viable option for my family. read more

I went to the Carbon health Urgent Care San Marcos on 109 S Las Poses Rd San Marcos Ca because my Dr was on Vacation . I made an appointment Got same day appointment you can do walk in too. I had this sickness for long time and my Dr didn't want to give me any more antibiotic. I told the staff they said it could be something else since you had antibiotics twice and still not feeling well need xray I said ok . They took xray found there was problem to see was not normal they gave me a Rafferal for CT scanning which I had . In. CT scanning showing that I have pneumonia White water sitting on my lungs for the past 9 months . I been coughing all the time. My Dr was saying that I have chronic cough rather then finding out with xray. I am glad I came to Urgent care . They gave me antibiotics I am taking it for 14 days. Hope it will go away. Staff was good . Girl Casandra who is Dr PA was excellent. I could see them all the time for my medical need only problem they don't pick up the phone . The phone goes to the head office if the line is busy . I found that is big disappointment because you want to reach speak or see professional for your medical results. They took long time for the results and goes to central office, they read them. Now, my Dr is back from vacation he read my result report of CT scanning . He gave me the same antibiotic that the Urgent care gave me . First he was saying no more antibiotic now he gave .
