What a lot of people don't know is this is a mom and pop shop that is NOT related to the HORRIBLE chain. If you have not tired this pizza from "Carbone's on Randolph"(is the name) then you JUST HAVE TO! Its the best pizza in Saint Paul. If you do not like the pizza cut in squares then just ask for it to be cut the way your used to. The only suggestion I have for newbies. COME FOR LUNCH. Love carbones! Very thin crust pizza with a not too sweet, not too salty sauce, just right! Cheese bread is really good but we love that they now have cheese fries too. Definitely a unique flavor to their pizza, not like a chain. Highly recommend! read more

Previous reviewers have pretty much covered this restaurant well. My one pro: the generous heaping of ingredients; excellent! The con: the pizza is always sliced into tiny square servings. The crust can't hold the toppings and things get messy.. Bigger squares would be nicer. read more

There are several Carbone's located throughout the Twin Cities, however, this one is family owned and makes the best pizza in the Cities. Don't bother with the other locations .. this one on Randolph and Davern is the only one to go to. You can watch your pizza being handmade. Fresh dough, sauce is incredible, ingredients are fresh and taste fantastic. For the price, I think if you love good pizza, this is the best value in town. The only minor concern is that the wait-staff can be spotty. Sometimes good, sometimes just okay. Other than that I would give it my highest recommendation ! read more

Unfortunate. Let me start by saying "easy to please" at a neighborhood pizzeria is an understatement. I merely need a beer and kids menu. Give me a Summit and a pepperoni pizza and I'm a happy camper. But, what the hell, it's a Saturday and my partner and I order cheese bread to boot. All fine and good until the second bite released a bug. A small bug ran across the plate and honestly shocked me more than horrified. I'm all for the 10 second rule, but it's been a close to record-braking string of below-zero temperatures, so my first thought was, "Where are these breeding?" My second thought came after the waitress was unapologetic and neglected to tell her manager who was surprised by the information. I say "surprised" intentionally because after working many years in the service industry, such news would appall and embarrass me. Needless to say we didn't pay for the cheese bread, but the fact that there was little to no shame makes me seriously fear of not only the food, but the overall handling of day-to-day operations of this establishment. I hope there isn't a Mr. Carbone Sr. to see his legacy carried out in such a way. I know it's harsh, but hey, cheese bread and a pepperoni pizza. Too much too handle? Get it together. I say get it together because once the pizza finally came it had sausage on it and when my darling bf pointed it out she shrugged and said "I'll have them remake it for you" Remake it?? LIke it's our fault you can't figure out the correct shorthand for what sort of salty pork we want on top of our pie. It also would have been nice to have the second beer I ordered but maybe the whole bug thing threw her off, Or the fact that there were 3 different waitresses at different times at our table not communicating with each other in the background. This all would have been understandable if all the tables were full and they were understaffed. But with empty tables and what appeared to be 5 servers, I won't apologize for a harsh review of Carbone's slow Saturday. Slow? For a reason I'm guessing. read more

We walked in and we were greeted with a, "Hello, how are you today?" But were confused because another women had walked in at the same time as us. When she rushed into the back I realized it was us we were being talked to. Anyway, we weren't offered a seat so we found our own. The server, "Chey" seemed surprised. She didn't tell us what her name was and the only thing she offered us was something to drink, to make our order, crushed pepper and Parmesan and would we like a take out bag. We waited FOREVER for her to finally realize we were done eating. My water glass was never filled up from the first time but anyway, I wanted to try the spumoni ice cream but she assumed we were done eating and just gave us our receipt. This is how I found out her name was Chey. We waited around for a while not sure if we paid up front or was suppose to wait for the waiter. This lady asked us how the food was, opened up her hands to get the money (without telling us our total or change) gave us our change silently and then said, "thanks" as we left. The food is okay but the SERVICE WAS TOO AWFUL to even give two stars!!!! read more

if you like firm, almost crunchy thin crust in favor of soggy thin crust, excellent cheese that isn't too much nor too little and just the right the right amount of sauce then your in for a treat! I've lived on 3 different continents and this is my all-time favorite pizza. I recently moved out of state and haven't found anything that compares to a large thin crust pepperoni pizza from Carbone's! My parents and 3 brothers all live out of state and Carbone's is still there favorite, all of them. I only eat pepperoni pizza so I can only vouch for their pepperoni pizzas but my mom and brother order the Special (i think it's called the Carbone's Special) and they claim it's the best. My other brother likes sausage and mushroom and he claims its the best. My dad and other brother will eat from one of the three above mentioned pizzas and claim they're the best! Can't say enough good things about the pizza from the original Carbone's on Randolph. read more

Best pizza in the Twin Cities by far......all homemade ingredients, eat it once a week!

This is a poorly run establishment that I would not recommend. I used to go to Carbones all the time and loved it but now it's all over. The new remodeling isn't great. Waiters and Waitresses bumping into you left and right. It's to cramped. We ordered two cheese breads right away and it took almost an hour for it to come out. Simplest thing on the menu! After our long over due meal we wanted to sit at the bar to watch ESPN. I got up and told our waitress we were moving to the bar and she said it was ok. When we started walking to the bar a couple grabbed our seats before and we had to settle in a near by table. As we were sitting at the table about 3 waitresses came up and asked for the check. We kindly said that we are waiting for another friend in the bathroom to split it up and they sat behind the bar and watched us. I work in the restaurant business and I knew there looks. They thought we were going to dine and dash. To ease there stress I took out my wallet and set it on the check. One waitress fast walks up and takes my entire wallet behind the bar and walks away. My friend came back and they pay. They hand me my wallet and I asked more the owner who I knew. The waitress claimed to be the owner and then began yelling at me. I told her that I told my current waitress that we were moving but she didn't listen. She claimed that I needed to tell every worker in the restaurant I'm moving tables not just the one who is serving me. I don't recommend this place at all. It was a terrible experience. And if you do end up going don't ever leave your table without telling everyone in the restaurant or they'll assume your a criminal. read more

I have to say Carbones on Randolph ave is the best pizza by far. I have been going there for lmost 50 years and there is no other pizza place that beats them out. Just ordered a pizza from Mavericks on Randolph ave in St Paul cuz Carbones does not deliver, I was told, a few months ago that Mavericks pizza, by owner was better than Carbones. Not true. I ordered black olives on my pizza and got calamare olives. Do not like them. But the taste was no where near Carbones. read more

I was raised on Carbone's. Not this one, thankfully. The one in Hudson, WI makes this one look just terrible to be brutally honest. I tried this one a few years ago. Incredibly unimpressed. Thought since there's one of my favorite pizza chains close by, I should try it again. I'm not one to write reviews like this but just couldn't help myself after another bad experience at one of my all time favorite pizza names. After the extra about 30 minutes wait time compared to what we were told, both of our pizzas were finally done. Sitting there watching 5 different cooks barely doing their job was frustrating. I worked in the pizza industry for years. You make pizza that slow on a Friday night, not going to work. I've watched one pizza cook at a different Carbone's make triple the output of that place. Then they serve both of the pizzas in paper bags. I don't know if they're trying to cut cost or what, but this is the most inconvenient way you could give take out. Have you ever tried to stack two bags of pizza on top of each other? In what world does that work? Am I supposed to lay one flat on the front seat and one flat in the back seat. Hopefully I never need to turn or use my brakes. Then getting to actually eating the pizza. I don't know how to describe it besides not great. This is why I'll forever again not eat at this Carbone's. All the other ones I've tried got it down. This one though, waste of time and money. read more
