After my fuel pump failed on October 11, 2025, Royal Administration denied my claim, offering only $151.80 for repairs and citing wholesale pricing. The contract does not exclude standard retail markups, which means they should cover the full costs. Notably, the doctrine of contra proferentem applies in this situation. My attempts to resolve this issue have been met with deflections and scripted responses, leaving me with an outstanding bill of $1,516.25. This is at its core a scam company. Read all of the negative reviews and make your own decision. Carchex sells a product, which is Insurance for post factory warranty vehicles. When it comes time to use the insurance, the company finds every way possible to keep from honoring their contract. There are other companies out there that have a better reputation. Bought two policies and made a couple of claims. One for wheel bearings and yesterday for the electronic trunk latch. In both cases, the amount covered was significantly lower than the cost of repair. It was $537 for the trunk latch at the dealer after all the labor and tax; I'm in Western, PA and the labor rate isn't like a big city! Carchex contracted coverage only covered about $240 with a $100 deductible. So the repair cost me $400. The experience with the wheel bearings very similar. It appears they undercut the actual labor cost and search the planet for the cheapest possible part (even if a dealership won't install it because of quality/Warranty issues). I wouldn't at all be surprised if they found a trunk latch at 'Jamal's Rebuilt Parts' in Baghdad, Iraq, and used that price to pay the claim. Want to feel like an IDIOT? Buy a Carchex policy. We went over a terrible road with rocks etc flying and something caused the transmission to reengage to the drive line. Carchex paid $200 and I was stuck with $9600. Unethical and misleading advertising, from a fundamentally unethical company! When I purchased the policy, I asked the agent whether I could do any covered repairs at the dealership. The agent said "ABSOLUTELY!" What he did not tell me was that they will not approve original equipment (OEMs) or the labor rates of a typical dealership. They also "neglected" to let me know that they don't cover screws, hoses, and all sorts of auxiliary items that repair shops will not put back into the car in fear that they may fail. When someone fails to highlight critical information, they "lie by omission". CARCHEX makes money when they DON'T provide service. They are not your friend. I was told by my service manager if the lines break my car would stop dead in the road! The adjuster didn't care if I would be safe or not! Before I took my car to the shop I called CARChex to find out if they would pay for a rental car. The lady I spoke with said "Of course we'll pay you $40.00 PER DAY for a rental car." I got my Alternator replaced and a few other things. Most of the money for my Alternator came out of my pocket. I got $95 towards my Alternator that costs a little over $500 For a Hyundai equus! A car that is 98% electric After they made some of the repairs they told me to drive the car 200 miles to see if my car was still jumping from my gears slipping. Said it would still be under the same case number. Well guess what? Sure enough they were still slipping and my car was still kicking and I had to create a new case with another deductible paid and they continually make my mechanic and myself jump through hurdles to get things done. Very frustrating company to work with. I would Honestly run as far away as possible from this company! You don't even deal with them when you make a claim. They go through a third party that will try and screw you every way possible or try their hardest not to make the repairs. Currently they want a complete tear down of my transmission which is a sealed transmission. Despite having multiple graphs CLEARLY showing that there is a clear problem with my transmission. They sold me a policy and they used Allegiance as the actual car warranty provider. Allegiance denied a claim for radiator seam leak and supercharger bearing failure because car had "modification". The modification was a resonator delete by previous owner. There is no way on earth a resonator delete can cause any issue...it's just a elongated/hollow tube that is part of the exhaust pipe. Allegiance and CarChex were worthless to resolve...and quite rude, even when I pointed out they are violating the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. STAY AWAY from CarChex. Barely Pays Claims, Double Dips Refunds, Used Parts... Basically the Junkyard of Protection Got a Car Warranty on 8/3/2018 for a 5 Year Term, 100,000mi on my 2011 Audi R8 V10 Spyder. At every turn they didn't want to pay the dealer nor the shops labor rate. In order to get new parts, I had to pay extra to purchase them, as they only allowed parts purchases through a shady second hand site, that my mechanic refused to order from. Then on refund, they charged not only for mileage used, but also for claims, essentially double dipping on the contract. While it is all legal, it is also just really scammy, with a lot of legal fine print. I would get a warranty from one of the bigger companies, Ally, AAA, or the manufacturer itself. They are mostly just a marketing company. Basically they ended up clearing $3k on a $5k warranty, when realistically had they paid for new parts and a fair hourly rate (I drive an exotic car, it can't just go to a regular car repair shop, and most won't touch it anyway) I probably would have broken even. You may be thinking what does it matter for my Camry? The answer is simple, if they use junkyard parts on your Camry, then they break again and your warranty is over, you are stuck with the expense later. It's just a bad warranty. Also if it is any major repair expect a 1 week inspection period as they look for ways to deny the claim. Icing on the cake: Last week they told me the check was in the mail, but wasn't processed due to a power out. This week they told me I qualify for nothing! read more

This is far from it and probably if not already the worse decision you would ever make. They will double talk you to death when explaining your policy to you and then they will tip toe around all the points that they hope you won't hear when they tell you the important things like how much you will pay. Be careful to give your information to them as well. They will use it against you even if you don't get a policy, they may say you agreed to the term and even insert a section into your recording where the person giving you the info suddenly says the start date is suddenly up to 6 months before you actually talked to them so without your knowledge they pull your money from your bank and automatically put it on auto pay so they get paid each month. Then when you discover that they were taking your money they have a guy named Drew sit there and argue that you agreed on the date they now put into your recording so when they play it back you will hear the new date you supposedly talked to them. When talking to them they spin this fabulous policy and easy payments but when you get the reality curtain lifted you find out the entire bill would cost you thousands of dollars at an average of 200.00 a month in payments for 26 months. I purchased a Warranty (Centennial Plan) on 11/26/21. I tried to use the warranty on an issue with my car regarding a failed "Window Motor" on March 10th, 2022. This is clearly covered under the Plan Coverage under Electrical components covered. I was sold on the premise that I can "Take your Vehicle to a licensed repair facility of Your Choice" which includes a dealer, that was confirmed since I take my car to the dealer for service. The motor was covered but only at a fraction of the cost quoted by the Dealer, of which the "Shop Rate" was not covered as well. Even though I called prior to let them know I was bringing in the car for service and asked what I need to do for the warranty be initiated by the repair facility. I was told "to have them call prior to anything being repaired, and that all I will have to pay is the $100 deductible". This was not the case they were only willing to pay the following: * half of the shop rate * A fraction of the covered part * Part of the total time of repair The Royal Administration Services Representative known hereinafter as (RASR), the underwriter for the policy's excuse is they found a cheaper part cost and relayed to the dealer to order from a specific website. Anyone who works for a dealer or any other repair facility, knows that all repair facilities have specific procurement process'. They also would know that there is a repair book that has all times for part replacements, of course some may be 1-2 tenths of any hour difference due to an ordered process of removal vs any shortcuts along the way, this removes the chance of breaking something to squeeze out a part. RASR said I would have to pay the difference of the cost voiding their claim "Take your Vehicle to a licensed repair facility of your choice". I spoke to a Colleen from RAS and asked her provide me a facility they recommend due to the issue experienced above so I don't have to go through the same issue again. She provided Brake World, Firestone and Honest Once Care. Fast forward to 12/28/22, I brought the car to Brake World for the exact same issue, and once again gave the same run around with the Shop Rate $139.99, Total repair time 1.7 vs 1.3, and the part cost dictating to repair facility to order from this particular site or me to order the part then bring it to them to install, was told to me by the RASR, Dennis, knowing that is not feasible as they won't certify the repair or cover under warranty if I chose to do so. Interestingly enough, in speaking to the RASR, (Dennis), I asked why was the Shop Rate not covered in whole, per my request from the other RASR, that provided me the repair facility. He mentioned their Shop Rate was $199.99 and they will only cover $134.99. This struck me as strange as Brake World Displays the shop rate clearly as they are obligated to do. I called to confirm, and they provided me the invoice, of which clearly states $139.99 shop rate vs the $199.99 that was provided to me by the RASR. There was clearly a miscommunication not sure where, but the RASR said their intake form is verbal from the Repair shop. Further discussing with the RASR, on a mutually recorded phone conversation, the RASR was very combative. I explained to him now knowing the actual shop rate, I won't have an issue covering the $5 difference in the shop rate vs $65 difference RASR claims is the Shop Rate. The RASR agent would not consent as to the veracity of the intake knowing the Rate is incorrect. I clearly asked RASR, if I can ask repair facility to resubmit with the actual shop rate to get the car repaired since I have no way of confirming that the shop provided that info or their intake person misunderstood and he said "you can have the shop call in the claim or resubmit but in the likelihood, it won't change anything". So, they would cover the original rate they took down in error not the correct shop rate with proof. Please note I called RASR and spoke to another person on the 29th, and she said the shop rate was $180, and when I asked Dennis to confirm the Rep's name he would not, and only stated we have no one with that name even though I may have had the name incorrect, only stated we have no one working with that name. Not very pleasant at all, but indicative of their policy. Stay away. I would ask the following for those who are considering an extended warranty. 1. Do you have a Shop Rate maximum you would cover. 2. Which governing book for repair do you use; this dictates the time they are willing to pay for a particular repair or lower. 3. If a part needs replacement, do you cover a part on an average around the country or lowest being used or certified repaired, New, and what cost. 4a. If you find a part lower, do you have a parts company you use, or will recommend if not covered under the shop's normal procurement process? Keep in mind, most won't do so due to liability. Carchex is essentially a SCAM. I had a problem with the engine block leaking fluid which they asked the mechanics to perform specific tests to verify that it was leaking. They sent an inspector over to the shop and determined that it was leaking...but "not enough" and refused to have it fixed. Mind you, I have the Titanium Warranty from them which essentially covers everything. Now the car is in the shop for an Air Conditioning issue. The mechanics have run tests to determine the cause and have found the root cause which is the evaporator which will need to be replaced. Again, they are refusing the claim...until they can send an inspector to the shop so he/she can physically see the part. This will require that the full dashboard be pulled which is the lion's share of the cost of the repair. If the inspector determine's that this is not the cause (though the tests indicate that it is) then they won't pay for any of the work. There are no check's on the inspectors and no way to determine if those individuals are qualified to review the parts in any case. A significant amount of wasted money all the way around and a lot of lost time in the shop waiting for them to get around to answering the phone, sending out inspectors and running expensive, unnecessary tests with no intent to pay to have things fixed. I certainly should have read the reviews at BBB prior to purchasing an extended warranty. This company is unprofessional and just flat out lies. My vehicle has been in the repair shop for nearly 10 months. Carchex/Royal Administration says the delay was due to COVID. Yet, my payments were deducted monthly. Second, they blamed the extreme delay on the repair shop. They sent an adjuster out twice, required that the owner 'break down' the engine, then forgot to take photos once the adjuster left. They delayed the repairs even further. After calling a number of times, one of the reps notified me that the labor it took to break down the engine would not be covered and that they sent the adjuster's paperwork to the repair shop. This was somewhere around April 2021. I called today to confirm that my invoices were received. I was told that they were, but that the shop had to return the adjuster's form that was emailed. I asked for the email address they had on file and if the copy could be sent to me as well. The rep said she could not send a copy to me, but that she was currently sending it to that repair shop. I waited about 20 minutes and called the shop's owner who said he had received nothing. We both called back only to have a new rep tell us that 1) that he could send me a copy and 2) that there was no email on file for the shop owner. It has currently been 5 hours and no email was received by the shop owner or myself. I can no longer do business with a company so dishonorable. I suggest all read this review. read more

My car has two issues that are at near catastrophic failures. I was able to get it to a reputable dealership who I trust. As I myself am a trained mechanic I knew what was happening and the dealerships technicians confirmed it. I have had a warranty with CarChex (doing business with Royal administration services) for a while. Can I tell you they do business as if they are Vogons? What should've been a single day repair on both the hub on one wheel and the differential in the transmission has turned into a week long wait on a bureaucratic nightmare. Congress moves faster! I have spent to date 16 hours on the phone over five days trying to get my car repaired! They agree it needs to be repaired but they have to start the claim, call the dealership to establish the claim, send an inspector out to look at the failed items so they can take pictures then upload the pictures to the appraiser who will then either approve the repair or not. Then if he approves the repair they call the dealership to tell them they're willing to pay for in order to repair the car. Jesus Christ it's real simple! A bearing has gone bad and back in the day you used to replace the bad bearing, repack the bearings using a hydraulic pressure then put the hub back on. Now it's cheaper and faster to just put a whole new hub on. You put the hub in, you put the car back together and realigned the front end Bob's your uncle and it's over. Oh no that would be too easy for CarChex/Royal Administration Services. Don't even get me started on the differential! I think that's going to take a month. In the meantime I have to pay for a rental car and that's adding up very quickly. Oh sure, they claim they'll reimburse my money but honestly do I believe them? NO. In the meantime I'm without my car and spend my days on the phone fighting them JUST to get an inspector there. I have had car warranties on my vehicle since 1996 and it has never been this horrible of an experience. I can't wait for my car to finally be repaired, hopefully by Christmas and my money reimbursed, may be in this lifetime so I can fire these guys. My last claim was for a windshield washer not working, ( which you would think they would cover) simple right? The charge was $998.00 and they denied, denied, denied coverage as usual and made a payment, get ready of a whopping $1.22. DISGUSTING! When you read the 5-star reviews, you'll notice that most of them are for the buying experience. The buying experience is good, they promise anything you want. After you buy your warranty, it turns into a nightmare. I began my contract with Carchex in December 2019. Since then, I've only had 3 claims but every single claim was a problem. For reference, I bought their top-of-the-line, exclusionary warranty, which means everything on the car is covered unless the contract specifically excludes it i.e. maintenance-type items. My first two claims, they paid but only about 40% of the bill. This left me with hundreds of dollars out of pocket on each claim. They use ridiculous labor rates and parts costs that no one except for Bubba in his backwoods garage would accept. My most recent claim was for a broken rear suspension spring. Their response was that we've never seen this before, it must have rusted through. Sorry, that's not covered. My mechanic had to send pictures showing the spring and said it clearly was not from corrosion. they decided that it needed to be inspected by one of their inspectors. The inspector looks at it, realizes that it was not from corrosion, then decides that I must have been in an accident with my car and that's what caused it to break. Claim denied! BS. I have never been in an accident with this car. I usually keep warranties on my vehicles and have never had a problem with a claim. Until Carchex. Be prepared to use the legal system to get anywhere with these guys, that's what I'm doing. Better yet, run away from this scam of a company as fast as you can. Save your money on the cost of buying the Carchex extended warranty. They nickel and dime the repair shops to where it doesn't really pay anything. Some repair shops won't take the warranty as they loose money on the repair. Wish I banked the $3,300 for the warranty and used it as I needed it over the five years. I'd be way ahead. If it's too good to be true then it probably is. These warranty people are making a fortune because they make it so difficult to get any money from them for legitimate repairs. read more

Over phone contracted and was told I had 30 days to review contract and can cancel within that time. I contacted them to cancel 14 days after purchase. They did not cancel and I was charged twice, with a third attempt made. Contacted them multiple times to no avail. Will now need to spend time with the BBB system. read more

do not even consider buying a warranty from this company, I bought the top tier coverage they offered for my vehicle a 2014 GMC Sierra it is not a cheap payment but decided it was worth it incase something did go wrong. unfortunately it did my transmission went out and I brought it to the dealership in my town. After spending all day going around and around between the service department and the warranty company it was apparent to me that they never intended to cover anything, even after requesting i pay hundreds of dollars to have my transmission taken apart. they spent all day and my money to find anything they could to deny service. everyone I spoke to was extremely rude "much different then they were when selling me the warranty." absolutely do not buy a policy from them! read more

Pushy saleman sold me a bill of goods(bads). $3,000 later when it came time to use the service, they denied my claim because the transfer case started leaking oil, twelve days AFTER the part started failing. I must now pay for a $6,000 repair out of my own pocket. Avoid Car Chex Direct like the plague. read more

I've owned many vehicles, most of which I've purchased extended warranties for through the selling dealer. In my most recent car purchase, a 2013 BMW 135i with just 40k miles, I decided to opt out of the warranty the dealership was offering and sought out to find my preferred plan instead. After much research, I was convinced CarChex was the right fit for me. Reviews on BBB, consumer affairs and other reputable agencies praised this company. After speaking with the representative and getting clarification on many of my areas of concerns, I purchased the titanium coverage (bumper to bumper some exclusions apply). Fast forward 6 months and 3k miles, my car starts to experience a few problems. Rightfully so, I took my car in to a reputable BMW dealer for diagnostics. Per contractual agreement, I'm subject to rental reimbursement contingent on claim coverage. The diagnostics returned with several components on my vehicle needing coverage, i.e. Trailing arms on both driver and passenger side, coolant sensor and reservoir and a new window module regulator. An inspector was sent from CarChex to confirm these indeed were faulty prior to approval but was given confirmation they all qualified for coverage. *THIS IS WHERE MY EXPERIENCE WITH CARCHECX TOOK A TURN FOR THE WORST! * Five days have passed since the initial diagnostics. During this time, I've been driving around in a rental provided by the dealership. Confident my claim was covered per my contract; I didn't think twice on taking the dealer up on the rental. I received notice from the service advisor as soon as word came back from my open claim, the verdict was that carchex would only cover a 3rd of invoiced total (labor and parts). In disbelief, I immediately call carchex to discuss further in detail. It was then when they disclosed my policy is not through carchex but instead Royal Administration Services, Inc. (a company with ONE star rating on BBB, CSR, CA). Still unsure of what I was being told, I got passed along from rep to rep with hope to get more clarification. CarChex DOES NOT HANDLE THIS CLAIM, they're just the scouters. They then sell you off to a third-party administration company with their own set of guidelines some not disclosed on the initial contract. They'll try and convince you a PDF was sent to your inbox but really, it's an Adobe link that prompts you downloading adobe. I have Adobe installed on my computer and manage hundreds of PDFs a day. Had this indeed been a real PDF, the contract would've opened properly after clicking on the link. Customer service at Royal is despicable! They're inability to communicate with professionalism is mind boggling. They have no sense of respect for you, the consumer. To sum up my story, I paid a 6-month premium to a company who falsefully represented me. Regarding my claim, they will NOT cover OEM replacement parts (not disclosed on my initial call despite me asking specifically), instead comparable parts to the year and make of the vehicle aka USED parts! No dealership will ever sell or install used parts on your vehicle as this will later be a liability to them. As for labor, they only cover the number of hours detailed in a manual they reference, one that's not very realistic. Additional hours will NOT be covered! Furthermore, the inspector sent to the dealership did NOT perform a thorough inspection. My claim for the coolant light and window module were both denied because they were unable to duplicate these occurrences despite it being present at the time of drop off and pickup (they argued with me and even told me I was being irrational for not believing them). To put everything into perspective, I was quoted by the dealership $2100 and 12 hours of labor for all parts and labor whereas CarChex/ Royal only approved $431 and 2 hours of labor! Car rental was also on me as 2 hours of labor does not justify means for a rental. Unwilling to pay $2K out of pocket for something I should've only paid my $50 deductible, I asked my car not to be worked on and that I'd pick up in the afternoon. I was still held liable for the diagnostic fee of $200 and $286 for the rental, neither approved for reimbursement. I immediately canceled my plan with carchex/ royal. I refuse to continue paying a monthly rate for the crap service I received. They'll always paint you the perfect picture to try to sell you on their product, they'll verbally agree to things later not included in your written contract (if you're lucky to receive a physical copy). Before you consider carchex, think again. If nothing else, I at least hope this review entices you to look further into them before committing. read more
