Called in today, got a quote, the guy "helping" me, when I told him I wanted to shop around, he hung up on me. Waste of time...

I've owned many vehicles, most of which I've purchased extended warranties for through the selling dealer. In my most recent car purchase, a 2013 BMW 135i with just 40k miles, I decided to opt out of the warranty the dealership was offering and sought out to find my preferred plan instead. After much research, I was convinced CarChex was the right fit for me. Reviews on BBB, consumer affairs and other reputable agencies praised this company. After speaking with the representative and getting clarification on many of my areas of concerns, I purchased the titanium coverage (bumper to bumper some exclusions apply). Fast forward 6 months and 3k miles, my car starts to experience a few problems. Rightfully so, I took my car in to a reputable BMW dealer for diagnostics. Per contractual agreement, I'm subject to rental reimbursement contingent on claim coverage. The diagnostics returned with several components on my vehicle needing coverage, i.e. Trailing arms on both driver and passenger side, coolant sensor and reservoir and a new window module regulator. An inspector was sent from CarChex to confirm these indeed were faulty prior to approval but was given confirmation they all qualified for coverage. *THIS IS WHERE MY EXPERIENCE WITH CARCHECX TOOK A TURN FOR THE WORST! * Five days have passed since the initial diagnostics. During this time, I've been driving around in a rental provided by the dealership. Confident my claim was covered per my contract; I didn't think twice on taking the dealer up on the rental. I received notice from the service advisor as soon as word came back from my open claim, the verdict was that carchex would only cover a 3rd of invoiced total (labor and parts). In disbelief, I immediately call carchex to discuss further in detail. It was then when they disclosed my policy is not through carchex but instead Royal Administration Services, Inc. (a company with ONE star rating on BBB, CSR, CA). Still unsure of what I was being told, I got passed along from rep to rep with hope to get more clarification. CarChex DOES NOT HANDLE THIS CLAIM, they're just the scouters. They then sell you off to a third-party administration company with their own set of guidelines some not disclosed on the initial contract. They'll try and convince you a PDF was sent to your inbox but really, it's an Adobe link that prompts you downloading adobe. I have Adobe installed on my computer and manage hundreds of PDFs a day. Had this indeed been a real PDF, the contract would've opened properly after clicking on the link. Customer service at Royal is despicable! They're inability to communicate with professionalism is mind boggling. They have no sense of respect for you, the consumer. To sum up my story, I paid a 6-month premium to a company who falsefully represented me. Regarding my claim, they will NOT cover OEM replacement parts (not disclosed on my initial call despite me asking specifically), instead comparable parts to the year and make of the vehicle aka USED parts! No dealership will ever sell or install used parts on your vehicle as this will later be a liability to them. As for labor, they only cover the number of hours detailed in a manual they reference, one that's not very realistic. Additional hours will NOT be covered! Furthermore, the inspector sent to the dealership did NOT perform a thorough inspection. My claim for the coolant light and window module were both denied because they were unable to duplicate these occurrences despite it being present at the time of drop off and pickup (they argued with me and even told me I was being irrational for not believing them). To put everything into perspective, I was quoted by the dealership $2100 and 12 hours of labor for all parts and labor whereas CarChex/ Royal only approved $431 and 2 hours of labor! Car rental was also on me as 2 hours of labor does not justify means for a rental. Unwilling to pay $2K out of pocket for something I should've only paid my $50 deductible, I asked my car not to be worked on and that I'd pick up in the afternoon. I was still held liable for the diagnostic fee of $200 and $286 for the rental, neither approved for reimbursement. I immediately canceled my plan with carchex/ royal. I refuse to continue paying a monthly rate for the crap service I received. They'll always paint you the perfect picture to try to sell you on their product, they'll verbally agree to things later not included in your written contract (if you're lucky to receive a physical copy). Before you consider carchex, think again. If nothing else, I at least hope this review entices you to look further into them before committing. read more

This place is a scam! They sold me this dream that they will fix my problems with my car if it was to break down. Its been two weeks now, my car is in the shop and they are trying not to repair my vehicle. They are asking me to authorize a breakdown on my engine and they will come and inspect it again! The shop told me it would cost almost 5 thousand dollars in labor if my warranty company decides not to cover it, and that it isn't necessary they knew what the problem is! Contacted Carchex for used car inspection. First the price is 179.00 then a day later the price jumps up 30.00 because the "contract ase inspector" wants more money! Yeah its only 30.00 but its the principal that matters. Then when I call repeatedly no one answers! I log in and obviously they got my email and phone voice mail but don.t have the class to call me back. As when I log in the information changes to this" "Order status : Pending This order is pending action. You will be alerted when further information is available. Possible reasons for a Pending status include : Mileage fee is required to complete inspection. More information is required from customer. Seller or buyer of vehicle has requested to put inspection order on hold." SEE MY PHOTOS! Their dash board says one thing but the email (photo2) shows their real intent is to get 30 more dollars out of me. They claim it is the location of the vehicle. HA! It is 20 minutes from Detroit! I purchase a 5-year contract through Carchex, and they put me with American Auto shield. One thing I was not informed of is there a set rates. The mechanic May charge One price but the contract company is only going to pay a certain amount and if it's more you're going to be stuck with paying that. Even if your repair is covered you still may have more out of pocket than your deductible. I just had a and repair done and most of the things were covered. The total bill was $1,074 yet I still had to pay $631 when my deductible was only $100. One instance is on labor the mechanic wanted to charge 2 hours labor but the contract company only wanted to pay one hour labor. So I had to pay the difference. Not one salesperson selling me the contract told me that. So it boils down to even if the part is covered under the contract they may not pay a hundred percent of the cost after you pay your deductible. read more

I have had not one but two policies and am totally sold a bill of goods. Only had three service calls and each time was hassled and put through the wringer getting my claim paid. Then when i asked for my rewards for which I am supposed to get, get a you must call back and speak to someone else. Great sales team. Who assured me *explicitly* that my truck would be fully covered for everything but mufflers/shocks/brakes/filters Under my new *platinum* level warranty. I shopped around carefully, and underlined the part in the notes I took when the rep assured me the whole truck was completely covered. Not even close. I'm in the hole for thousands in repairs that aren't "covered" items. When I called to cancel, I was routed to endless muzak and auto-hangups. Call for sales? Get right through. Call to cancel? Muzak and disconnect. I gave them three chances, same result. So after being sold an inferior product fraudulently, and being unable to even initiate a cancellation, all I can do is to warn others: save your money, stay away from Carchex!!! Oh, wait. And file a small claims court case, which they will have to show up to. AND send certified letters to the State Attorney General and BBB, requesting an investigation and follow up. This company is extremely unprofessional. They send you to American auto shield once a claim occurs, My car has been to 3 different shops over the past 3 months for an ongoing investigation to determine the cause of failure to my transmission. This company will require shops to do additional test on your car to try to find ways of not being responsible to cover a claim. The unprofessional side is the countless number of mistakes this company makes and they take no responsibility for them. Buying a warranty from them was one of the biggest mistakes of my life. I took my car in for service on June 21st. 2018 . The shop said it would take two hours to fix , it took twenty two days!!! CarChex has to send someone to the shop to inspect the car. Then it takes them three days to tell the shop oh by the way check the car for this or that. Then they call you to ask for your service records. Then that takes another week. So after nineteen days!!! THEY FINALLY !!!! Fix your car. BUT they want pay the total bill. I was in a rental car for twenty two days. They do not pay for your rental expenses. Because all of us can go without a car for TWENTY TWO DAYS!!! Paid for Carchex to perform an inspection on a vehicle I was interested in buying. At time of purchase they told me car would be inspected in 48 to 72 hours. I checked back in 3 days later. They claimed they had no record of my transaction and refused to give me a refund. They stole my money and performed no service. I was stolen from!!!! Zero Stars So a bit better than a year ago I bought a policy after buying a 2011 BMW 535i. It had 133000 miles on it roughly. Ran like a top. I dont drive it that often. In November after about 2751miles of driving I heard a hell of a racket coming from under the hood. I had it towed to an ASE mechanic. He was busy so I told him when he got around to it to check it out I have a policy that will pay for the repairs. I have 4 other vehicles so it really wasnt pressing. It was discovered after a good while that a timing belt tensioner and timing chain needed to be replaced. The mechanic made a claim on my behalf. After pics sent to Royal who handles the policy I bought apparently not from Carchex and an adjuster came to look at it he also concluded that it needed a timing belt tensioner and possible motor replacement. After about 2-3 weeks I received a call from a claim prossesor that the claim had been denied because they Royal/Carchex decided it was preexisiting. What does that mean...Everything on a vehicle that could break can be labeled preexisting. Immediately I filed a review....After over a month goes by with nothing, no call, no letter, and after many calls from me I decided to just cancel the policy and get a refund. I figured at last Id have enough money to try to fix the car I paid in $2013.55 in a year almost to the date. Today I receive a refund check of $807.49. Seriously your going to keep a little over $1200.00 when you said the car had preexisiting conditions. How does that work. Its like stealing and honestly Im more than pissed. This has been a horrendous experience and I have a bad taste in my mouth. You should do better Carchex and stand behind what you sell. You can bet Ill be calling them tomorrow. At first I was happy to know that I got a warranty that would cover what I wouldn't have to come out of pocket with--but that's what I had thought. I spoke with a couple of people- i will list names but I am going to BBB about them. My car was at a repair facility and it took carchex 3 days to get that approval while I explained my situation of my car being my only transportation and I could lose my job due to me not having funds because I was paying off bills and didn't have Lyft or Uber money(it's expensive) I was told by a female representative , I would come out of pocket with $359 and than I was told by a male representative that I am actually going to be coming out of pocket with $637 dollars while they pay only $117 and i was told that they couldn't tell me the EXACT price upfront until they know but it doesn't make sense, how are you going to pay for something that you don't know the exact price of? How are you going to prepare to pay money for an apartment if you don't know the cost until the last day ??( getting my point?) I put in an inquiry and they called me 2 days later to get the basic quote for me, standard procedure. After getting the final quote I could hear the guy clearly but just wasn't understanding the monthly correctly. This is the worst car insurance warranty I've ever had every time I take it to the shop they call me and ask me a 100 questions why I took it to the shop to the shop then it takes anywhere from 1 to 5 days for their adjuster to go look at your car that before they can start work on it. I bought a vehicle and considered getting an extended warranty, of course this company pops up because they pay for the advertising. First I speak to a rep while driving and understandably I want to shop around a little more, so I'm put on hold for the "manager" to pick up. This of course is a tactic in sales. I said several times I wanted to do more research on the company and look at others. They kept stating they were an "A" rated company with the BBB which means very little. The BBB is useless now and is bought and paid for by the companies it is supposed to protect consumers from. That's another story though. He threw around Edmonds etc the guy would not let me off the phone I had to hang up and of course he called back 3 times. so annoyed, I answer. He had a smart reply of, "I must have ran over the cord." I stated my stance that I'm shopping and I do not feel good about the pressure he is trying to apply to me to buy his product. So, then this genius throws in the fact I hung up on him. I was so annoyed if I was going to buy his product, I am surely not going to now. I come on here and see they have an over 50% one star rating... wow, I almost made a mistake. Their standard contract has a fixed labor rate that's below market cost in most areas but they won't tell you this up front. I found out after reading through the contract they mailed me. I called to complain and the customer service rep said they would email me a new contract changing the labor rate to market rate but they never sent anything. I can only assume they were stalling until my 30 day cancellation period ran out. So I tried to call and cancel but it turns out you can never reach anyone in the cancellation department. Also there's no way to cancel your automatic payment because they never provide you with any online account log in. You have to handle everything over the phone. To be safe I went ahead and sent them a cancellation in writing using certified mail. I also blocked their name with my credit card but the next month they changed the name of the company charging me and changed the amount by a penny so it would escape the block. Seems that their business model is not in providing any service but in making as many fraudulent charges as they can before they are shut down. Stay away from these slimy crooks. read more

Be careful with regards to using them. The good news is that they paid PART of my claim, however, they didn't pay what they should have. They only paid about 75% of my parts (they pay "like kind"/used cost even if we had to buy them new). More importantly, they only approved $65/hr for repairs. My shop charges $115/hr, which in checking around, is competitive (Firestone is $126/hr and Hyundai $132/hr). When I called to get the $115/hr approved, they declined it. HOWEVER, they said if I take the car back and go to Firestone, they would pay the $126/hr. MAKES NO SENSE. read more

I have a 2013 chevy suburban with 183k miles. I knew with mileage that high, my transmission might give before anything else. Turns out it starting shifting hard. Long story short I had signed with carchex auto warranty because I had seen initially their 4 star rating. I contacted a transmission repair shop that will fix and also works with most warranty companies. Today's date is 11/2/2021 and I dropped off my truck back on 9/28/2021. This whole time me and my mechanic have established great communication since day one. However the communication with carchex isn't how their reviews seems. Carchex has not responded to any emails or phone calls my mechanic has sent. Carchex apparently only has one person handling roughly 40 claims and hasn't had much proper training. I contacted customer service numerous times and all I get is that the adjuster has ALL needed information including the estimate from my mechanic but is still waiting for a carfax on my truck. To me and my mechanic, this is upsetting, frustrating, and unacceptable. read more

I recently engaged CarChex to inspect a car I intended to purchase. The web page offers a $139.00 car inspection. When I tried to book the inspection the only option I was offered was $229. A clear example of bait and switch. I needed to have the inspection done so I went ahead and booked the appointment. Upon reviewing the inspection report I determined that the inspector never even started the car. Never checked the items I requested be checked. When I called to inquire why I was told that the inspectors "are not mechanics". Seems a high price to pay to have someone come just to look at a car. After 24 months paying $219 per mo for a total of approx $4,900 i've "attempted two claims. One was denied outright resulting in my oaying $900+ out of pocket, and the most recent resulting in my paying $400-$500 beyond what CARCHEX authorized to fix an oil leak in my 2015 BMW 328i. And this was inly after numerous phone calls, emails and required photos sent by my self and my dealership service advisor Nice return on a $4,900 investment, eh? Lesson learned. I purchased a aftermarket warranty for my 2003 X5 3.0 so just in case I had any problems with the car, It would be covered. They will be more than happy to set you up with a contract and will pick up the phone within seconds but whenever you call to cancel the policy, you'll be speaking to a machine. I really did not want to write this review, but as a nurse, I've learned to be an advocate for those who can't speak for themselves. This company Carchex, and their administrator Roya, have got to have the worst customer service I've experienced in life, by far. I paid for an extended warranty with the conpany, but I've received nothing but horrible service. First off, after paying for my month policy price, the next month I got a bill that was not as it should have been. I had to fight with a representative to get that fixed to the price that I was told. They tried to make it seem as though I was asking for a discount, but I was not. So I had a breakdown of my vehicle, and this is where it got bad. I took it to my personal mechanic, but he advised that I take it to the dealer due to the nature of the issue. I did so, and the company eventually sent out an adjuster. They were very rude, short and would not listen to the mechanic that tire the engine down. The simply denied the claim, and just stated it was a " not covered" part, when that was not the case. I have it all in writing, but they wouldn't talk to me, wouldn't allow me to speak with a manager and hung up on me several time. I tried to cancel my contract, but they said they will still charge my account until it's closed, and I won't get a refund. This is very horrible and I hope it doesn't happen to anyone else, but I'm sure it does all the time. Never ever use CarChex or Royal. I purchased the extended warranty from Carchex in January and it has been the worst decision I ever made. The company markets itself as the #1 extended car warranty program but its nowhere near, I highly suggest going with another company such as Endurance etc. I took my car in to the dealership to get it inspected and when they called their parent claim company Royal Administrative Services they said they cannot cover my repair because it was 10 miles less than the 1000 mile requirement. Only 10 miles! I was not told any of these requirements when I purchased the warranty and thought it was effective right away! Anyway, when I had no luck with Royal who were very rude and unaccommodating I then called Carchex and they said to send me the invoice which I did and I was hoping they will pay for the repair or at least some of it but they didn't and my car was sitting in the shop for 2 months which I also had to pay the shop rent! because I have not heard back from anyone after constant calls and emails to them but they will just hangup or not answer the email. I WAS FURIOUS! Finally I got in touch with someone on the phone and they said they wont pay for the repair which was over $5,500 they can only take care of my next 2 monthly payments which is basically chump change! I have already paid the company over $1000 and now they telling me to pay for the repair myself! What is the purpose of having your service???? UNBELIEVABLE! If as it seems the customer NEVER actually knows to what extent the repair will be covered ...What then is the value of the coverage??? The customer can't decide AFTER the fact that the coverage was not worth purchasing and receive a 100% refund! When I was researching which company to use for a vehicle inspection it was very difficult. I read many horror stories. I decided to go ahead with Carchex. I am extremely glad I did. They were outstanding. Super fast scheduling and even faster report upload. The inspector was very thorough and did a great job. Very detailed and took many photographs. Obviously I can not speak for every inspection completed by Carchex, but my inspector and inspection was top notch. If I ever need a vehicle inspection again I have no doubt I will be using the services of Carchex. read more

My car is in the shop for a seal leak, its at the ford dealership, simple repair, took awhile before Ford could get ahold of carchex, repair is around $270, with my $100 deductible, should be an easy " go ahead and do the repair " kinda deal, but the 3rd party company says they have to do a review to verify that what dealer is saying about repair is correct, will take at least 24 hours to investigate. I am headed out of town for 3 weeks the next day, offered to pay entire amount if they would reimburse the amount to me, they said no. Contacted Carchex directly, they basically have no say in the claims, they only collect your money, the 3rd party company is the true extended warranty company, wish they would have told me this when i purchased the warranty, i could have cut out the middle man, he offered to transfer me to someone who maybe able to help, after waiting on hold for a while someone picked up, then hung up the phone, I called back and they did the same thing again. beware before you buy, if this is a start of the claim for a simple repair, imagine if it was an engine or transmission. read more

I purchased a warranty from Carchex as my car's manufacturers warranty was expiring. This week my cars shifter was stuck in park and reverse. I took it to the dealership and the entire bill was approved with my carchex warranty! The bill would have been $861 and I only had to pay my $100 deductible.
