Games, food, and great vibes, this place has it all. I've always been terrible at games, but when my family suggested this as a group activity, I thought, why not give it a try? They have a massive collection of board games lining an entire wall. I do think it helps to arrive with a game in mind (or choose one you've played before) so you don't spend too much time learning the rules. Our group decided on Coup, and it turned into a very, very competitive afternoon! I didn't get a chance to try the food, but the drinks we ordered kept us fueled. Tried this place for the first time the other night. I ordered the chicken and waffles which came with either maple syrup or hot honey. The hot honey option caught my attention, so I opted for that. The waffles were thick and sweet and had a really good flavor. The chicken was crisp and juicy. The downside was the "hot honey." It really wasn't hot honey, it was closer to sweet and sour sauce and just wasn't what I was expecting or what I would have ordered as the sauce. Whenever I'm wanting to get out and play some board or card games with friends, Cardboard Corner is my go-to destination. The selection of games is massive and well organized, the food is great, and I love that they have mocktails and boba (both of which I've tried and loved!) in addition to cocktails, coffee, and soda. I'm especially fond of their loaded nachos! I also appreciate that they have vegan and gluten free options for their waffles, though I'll admit I'm not sure how they handle the risk of cross contamination, so if you need to be careful of that definitely ask about it before ordering. The staff is always friendly, and the system they use for notifying you when your order is ready is great (you can have them text you when things are set out at the counter, which you then retrieve yourself). They also have a free water station, so anyone can easily get a glass of water without having to wait in line to ask! Do keep in mind that this place is often packed- if you plan to game with a group, it might be good to get there early to stake out a table that works for you! I love this place. It is the place to be on a weeknight. I've gone several weeknights and been completely taken aback at how packed and lively it is. It is great to see so many people out and socializing in such a fun environment. Another huge plus for this place is that it is the only board game cafe I've ever been to that doesn't make you pay a game fee. I can't describe how much more that makes me want to go here - it just takes the pressure off the whole experience. Pick a bad game? No harm, just try a different one next time. Stuff is so expensive these days, it's awesome to just have an all inclusive board gaming experience. That's not to say I don't pay anything when I go here. I always order food and a drink because they have such a fabulous menu. The menu is centered around waffles of all types - both sweet and savory. One of my favorites is the Jalapeno Popper Waffle, made out of cornbread. They have a variety of beer and cocktails, coffee, sodas, candy.. it truly is a vast and diverse menu. I get excited to try new things. Additionally, this space is huge! There are ample tables of different sizes to accommodate your group and there is an adjoining room with mega tables for more serious gamer groups. And if you want to pick up a game to take home, the whole place is connected to a board game store! I also love that this place is open until 10 pm. Honestly that is refreshing in a post-Covid world when I feel like everytime I want to go somewhere, I find out they are closed. If you're looking for a new local board game bar then this is it! There is no cover fee and an entire wall of board games you can try out before you buy. Also a cool perk is they have a board game store attached where you can walk over to and buy board games, figurines, dice and all sorts of other goodies. Cardboard also offers food options that are pretty limited to waffles which leads to a bit of a stinky room at times. Totally worth it by the end of the night though. There are also tons of classes you can take throughout the year, I took a figurine painting class a few months back and had a blast! I've been coming here since 2023 and it has easily became my favorite establishment in the Kansas City metro. While I am not even a huge game board fanatic nor player, this cafe provides a welcoming and fun space for everyone. I always bring my friends with many different interests here and we always still find a fun game that suits everyone as this cafe has an extremely broad selection of games to pick from, and it is completely free to play the games! While the games are a majority of the theme, the menu is what really wins me over. The rotating monthly menu is always great, the waffle selection is broad enough to always have a waffle that hits the spot and the drink selection is also fantastic and creative. I love that they have boba, hot tea sourced from Savoy Tea Co. (a great tea spot), matcha, coffee and a fun cocktail and beer selection. A huge advantage is their affordability as well! Cheap drinks and affordable, fulfilling waffles is a major win. Cardboard Corner Cafe also provides a safe space for people of all backgrounds and ages. The staff has always been consistently kind and helpful and the people who work here are passionate about their workplace. Not only is the staff kind but the crowd they bring in is also great. This place hosts many themed nights which is great if you are looking to socialize, learn a board game, or try out something new. Service is always fast even when they are slammed packed and I love the open, cozy seating arrangement and atmosphere. There is quite a bit of seating, even for larger groups. I will always be a huge fan of Cardboard Corner Cafe, I cannot recommend this place enough to literally anyone. As a non-gamer, what excited me most about this place is that their kitchen is open fairly late most nights, so I thought it would be a good place to stop by for a late dessert, all of which sounded delish on their menu. (What this town REALLY needs is a great late-night dessert restaurant!) However, after at least a 20-minute wait for Chaffles & Tomato Bisque Soup to go, on what didn't seem like an incredibly busy afternoon, my enthusiasm dimmed. And it dimmed even more when I tasted my food. The Ch(eddarW)affles were really dry, devoid of any pleasant cheese flavor, and the soup/dipping sauce was very thin, nothing like any tomato bisque I've ever had before. But all the other food I saw people getting LOOKED really good, even mouth-watering! Despite the fact that the guy in charge (not the owner), manning the store that day, taking orders and barking out names, did absolutely nothing that made me feel at all welcome, I can see this being a terrific, comfortable, hospitable place for those who love board games, and even for families. But you don't have to play games to hang out, even though they DO have a about a billion free-to-use boxed games of every variety on two walls. And their extensive menu, based mostly on waffles of every sort, sweet to savory, and any concoction of toppings you could possibly imagine, had me all excited. I hope the offerings (unlike mine this time) taste as good as they sound, and as good as the ones I saw coming out of the kitchen looked. They also have some interesting and creative alcoholic beverage offerings, like a Flight of Mimosas (classic, passion fruit , cranberry orange, and piña colada) for $12. Such a fun place! Come with a friend or a group, and plan to hang out for at least a few hours. In my experience, once you come, you won't want to leave for a while. Cardboard Corner has table sizes for nearly all groups, but there's only one or two very large tables (6+) in the main area. There's an adjacent side of the cafe through a door where there are more large tables. If you want to make sure a table will be available or you want a room for an event, you can reserve one of the private rooms in the back. There are QR codes on each table that will link you to the menu and provide game recommendations for groups of varying sizes, so don't worry about coming and not knowing what to play! The staff are also super helpful with recommendations. As for the food, it's very fun (much of it is waffle-themed) and very accessible (many sweet, savory, and gluten-free options), but ultimately unimpressive. The buffalo chicken waffle had a dino nuggets quality to it, and there wasn't much crispness to the cornbread waffle that came with it. It was a similar story for the pulled pork waffle. I don't mind that so much though; it makes me feel like I'm back in college playing board games in the cafeteria. Come, have fun, and save the foodie review for another place. read more

Ambience and games is a 5, food is a 2 (barely) Ambience: We had a great time hanging out with friends here. The assortment of games is amazing. We enjoyed trying out a new to us game and wound up really liking it. Food: We ordered the chicken and waffles and the Monte Cristo waffle sandwich. The chicken had to just be Sisco brand. The breading was soggy (perhaps just reheated in a microwave) and lacked flavor. The waffle was cold, dry and didn't have any flavor without syrup. The Monte Cristo was okay with the ham, cheese, and jam but again the waffle was dry and had no flavor. Ego frozen waffles would have had more flavor. It truly felt like they were freezer waffles warmed in a toaster. The pictures in the menu do not look like the food you'll receive. What a neat concept! I found this by accident from a GF Facebook page I am on for the local area. They offer a plethora of gluten free waffles, savory and sweet. They are clearly marked on the menu and the person taking our order was extremely helpful in explaining the waffles and the set up of the place. We ordered the chicken and waffle and the PB and J, we would not recommend the chicken at all. It was the microwave chicken strips that you can tell are not really chicken. The PB and J on the other hand! Wow! Perfect amount of sweet, crunch, texture and flavor. Amazing. They have a really good selection of drinks including ciders and mixed drinks. When you walk in there is a bar/cash register/bar where you order food and drinks. They call your name once it's ready. Find a table and grab a game! What a fantastic experience! As a family, we rented the sci-fi room and settled in for a game night. Chase was extremely helpful in getting us set up with instructions on using the Bluetooth sound bar for music and offering up a menu. He even offered to help us understand a new game we had purchased, Betrayal at House on the Hill. We made frequent trips to the bar to order drinks and food. The menu was creative and tasty! With all the potential combinations of waffle treats, we certainly didn't walk away wanting. The furnishings and decor were unique and creative as well. The entire place had a welcoming and relaxing vibe for a fun game night out. We enjoyed ourselves so much, we ended up buying an additional 2 hours of time in the room to finish our game and then rush through a "quick" game of Pandemic. Beware of these, as they are not what you would expect. We were expecting fried pickles, but received cheese pickle waffles. Imagine chedder cheese cooked with pickles in a waffle press. This place has really gross food. Definitely all made in the microwave or toaster over. We came here specifically since they had a gluten free menu. I asked for the gluten free chicken and waffles and no bleu cheese and when I got my order it was covered in bleu cheese and she looked at me like it was my fault but it showed clearly on the ticket that I had asked for it. Also the gf is supposed to come with grilled chicken and since the food had to be remade I got it to go. They gave me the fried chicken on top so I can't even eat this.
