I hesitated to write this review because I really like Dr. Andonian -- he is a great dentist. However, my experiences with the office management have been very disappointing. On multiple occasions, the office manager became defensive when we questioned charges for services. We were repeatedly asked to pay a copay, despite our insurance card clearly stating that our plan has NO COPAY. Each time, I contacted our insurance company directly to verify the charges. The office manager was rude to both us and our insurance company representatives. During one conversation, we were told that they would no longer accept our insurance because they "don't make enough money" from our plan. As a result, I had a scheduled cleaning canceled. I completely understand that dental offices have the right to choose which insurance plans they accept, including HMO plans. However, it is concerning to be told our insurance was dropped simply because we questioned fees and because the office felt they were not making enough money. At this point, I am trying to verify whether the office is no longer accepting any HMO plans at all, or if we were specifically excluded for questioning the charges. Very disappointed with how this situation was handled. read more

I adore Dr. Andonian. I feel very well taken care of when he is caring for my dental matters and he caught something that four other dentists and a hygienist missed! I'm so happy that he took care of the issue quickly and easily before it would indeed have became a big ordeal. Ask for Evette at the front desk, she's awesome and will answer any questions you might have. If you have an unusual question or situation she'll get the answers immediately, in my case, while I just held on the phone for a moment. They play the best music too. Beatles, Rolling Stones, Chicago, and other 80's and 90's stuff. No elevator music here. read more

The sweetest team here at Cardinal Dental!! It has been sometime since i got my teeth cleaned and I could seriously feel the plaque buildup behind my teeth, yuck! Since I am a full time student with a demanding schedule... trying to schedule a perfect day without interfering with school was difficult, but the front desk gal was so helpful and accommodating to my needs. She offered many schedule times and put me in my preferred date! They even called me up on a Friday asking if I happened to be free and I actually was, so that all worked out so conveniently for me. CHLOEEEE was my hygienist and I never had more fun at the dentist than I did then HAHA. Definitely set the comforting tone before ripping the plaque out of my teeth and was so sweet the whole time! 10/10 would recommend her as your hygienist too woooo! I've always been nervous about going to the dentist, but this office completely changed that. From the moment I walked in, the staff was welcoming, professional, and super organized. The whole place is clean, modern, and has a calm vibe that instantly puts you at ease. Dr. Andonian was incredibly gentle, explained everything clearly, and made sure I was comfortable the entire time. The quality of care is on another level--thorough, honest, and never rushed. Finally found a dental office I'll be returning to. The drive took about 20-30 minutes, but it's worth the drive for the thoroughness and friendliness of everyone here. Front staff was on top of it from the moment I submitted my request to the consistent reminders and confirmation of my appointment. I usually feel rushed and brushed off at many other clinics that had me unknowingly dread my dental visits, but that issue is resolved here. My years of tartar buildup was addressed as well as my calcium buildup. The staff all took their time discussing my needs and preventative measures before and after my deep cleaning. It was painless - even the X-rays they took that is typically very uncomfortable. They were upfront with the out of pocket cost for me at check in so I appreciated knowing what I was getting into and left feeling a major difference like my time spent here was worth it. The office is quaint with calm welcoming vibes, and it's located conveniently in a shopping center with ample parking out front. read more

I had a dental assistant fake clean my teeth. I called in to report this malfeasance and was told she had been "let go." After considering this I called twice again requesting I could come back in to have someone who wasn't recently "let go" clean my teeth. No phone call back. Nothing wrong to say with dental work but better watch out and double check what you are getting billed. We got talked into using a care credit card with various promotions, each promotion ending at a different point in time. The secretary made mistakes when charging us, then mistakes again when processing the refund which led to a total chaos, money being put on promotions that had nothing to do with the original charge, the bank, obviously, didn't care a cent to help us... all and all, we ended up paying extra interest on some transaction that were not processed properly by the dental office, we spent hours trying to find a solution with the bank, the dental office... obviously, once they had cashed their money, they didn't care to help us fix THEIR mistake... overall, it's a total mess. I changed from Modern Dentistry, and the horrible experiences I had there, to Cardinal Dental in Huntington Beach in 2023, and I'm sad that they no longer accept my insurance because I thought they were the best! Dr. Andonian is a highly skilled dentist who was always gentle with my mouth, and I was always happy with the work he did. They seem to have a high turnover of hygenists, but even the dental intern they hired was impressed with Dr. Andonian, and I'm sure word gets around to the students in dental schools about which dentists are the best to intern under. The front office is friendly and efficient, too. So if your insurance takes this office, don't waste your time looking any further. Added bonus? He had insurance he bought on his own and it discontinued. The insurance he provided you, you are only allowed to charge towards that insurance. You are prohibited from charging his old insurance. For you to go the extra mile to call his old dentist and to charge his old insurance without is permission is unacceptable. Who does that? That's HIPPA violation! He did not give you permission to go through his old dentist even for his medical records. read more

Wow! Do NOT question the bill before receiving treatment with these guys. I was yelled at for comparing my Delta insurance plan with their bill. A completely reasonable thing to do. I just walked out after being told I was attacking them. I was far from angry. I was actually kind of amused by the absurdity of the situation. Totally ridiculous. For example. An item on the bill was an updated partial denture. A replacement for the one I'd been wearing for 5yrs. I was told that I needed the significantly more expensive Acrylic dentures. I said "no thanks. Let's just do the metal and plastic. Like the ones I came in with." I was told by the 60ish Asian woman from the front desk, "you can't eat with those!" "What?! Seriously?!" Dr Chan tried to push the acrylics initially but I explained that I was in the implant process so the partial denture would be temporary. (I already have implants on my lower jaw so I'm familiar with the process). I told that same woman who handed me the bill "don't do the up-sell with me". That's when I left the dentist chair to go talk to her at the front desk. With Delta Dental app, in hand. She got more and more upset while I tried to go over each item on the $1900 bill. That's AFTER insurance! If you don't go over your bill before a dentist begins work, you're weird. They never did any work on me but sent me a letter stating that I would no longer be a patient there. Yeah, no kidding. How dare I to question their bill while consulting my insurance company. I never once raised my voice, used profanity or behaved aggressively. Just questions. The nurse and desk lady ganged up on me, with voices raised. I giggled and said "unbelievable" as I walked out. Go to Smiles Cafe on Orange Ave, near Main St. Dr. Khan and his staff are great! He's also a fellow Veteran. Opened on Saturday too! read more

I just experienced the most bizarre dental appointment I've ever had. Instead of a dentist office I felt like I was at a used car dealership! Lol! For 6 years, I've had the exact same insurance. I've seen 3 different dentists and the process is seamless-- X-rays + cleaning, then my insurance covers the entirety of my visit. I just moved to the area and chose cardinal dental at random based on my insurance and location. When Dr. Andonian met with me, he went extensively into how I had bone loss and gum recession, something I've been aware of as my prior dentists discussed with me as well. Then I expected a cleaning, but he kept being very vague about whether I was going to get one today as "they needed to check my insurance." Someone from the front desk then comes over with a bill for $400. She breaks down each line item of the $400. When she's finished, I have a very confused look on my face and ask why I'm being charged $400 for a cleaning because I normally don't need to pay for cleanings. She then proceeds to repeat the same information about the breakdown of the bill. I try to clarify my question, saying that I normally do not get charged $400 at my dental appointments and would like to understand why this time is different. She responds about how she is in contract with the insurance company and sometimes only gets paid $3-5 for cleanings, which FURTHER confused me because I have no idea how that has anything to do with me. In my head, I'm thinking, "Am I supposed to be giving a $400 charitable donation because of their unfair insurance contract? " I restate my question, saying that I'm unclear why my visits have been completely covered in the past and why they are not being covered today. She then pulls up my insurance on the screen and says that the cleaning is not covered by my insurance. Still, I'm extremely confused why every visit has been covered and costed me $0 until today. Has my insurance suddenly changed without telling me? As I'm speaking, I can see impatience rising in her face as she continues to repeat the same information at me. She also states that insurances send brochures with this information that I should have access to and read myself and she does not have time to learn every insurance. Finally, I try to calm her down, stating that it feels like we are speaking past each other and if we can try again. Please keep in mind, in this entire conversation, I've spoken about 3-4 sentences which I've copied verbatim above. I ask her once again, "can you please help me understand why I am being charged $400 for a cleaning when in the past I've been charged $0?" FINALLY, she understands my question and explains that the doctor has diagnosed me with requiring a DEEP cleaning, which is not covered by my insurance. Then, I clarify and say, "so regular cleanings cost me $0 and deep cleanings cost me $400?" This prompts her to pull up all my X-rays as she goes on and on about how my teeth are in bad shape. After a few minutes of this, I interrupt her and calmly state, "I'm not questioning the doctor's decision. I'm just trying to understand what I need to pay." She responds with a lengthy explanation about how hmo's are incredibly confusing. I then tell her that I did not expect to pay $400 for a cleaning today and need some time. She responds that the doctor will not be able to give me a regular cleaning now that he has prescribed me with needing a deep cleaning, which I find extremely bizarre. I tell her that I understand and still would like some time, and then she offers to only do a deep cleaning of half my teeth for half the price. At this point, I am extremely uncomfortable with the entire situation and just want to leave. I tell her that I will consider it and come back. On my way out, the receptionist tries to schedule a deep cleaning, to which I say I will call back. I understand that some patients do need more expensive treatments and presenting and explaining the cost is a difficult task. However, my constructive feedback would be to work on LISTENING to patients' questions before instantly assuming we are trying to fight the price. The entire time, the woman I spoke to seemed to only be concerned with defending the $400. I have no problem paying for a $400 treatment if it maintains a healthy set of teeth, but before I do so, I need someone to calmly and PROFESSIONALLY explain why I am being charged $400 instead of the regular $0. I had no intent on questioning whether I needed the $400 service, but it felt like the woman I spoke to was trying to argue with me the entire time. At the end day, the unprofessionalism I observed has made me distrust this practice. If I need the exact same $400 deep cleaning, I will get it at a practice that treats their patients with professionalism. read more

Highly unimpressed with this Dentist (Dr. Andonian). I went in to get a new mouthguard made and have a deep cleaning done on my gums. The cleaning was nothing special but cost a whopping $300 even with insurance. As for the mouthguard...what a sh*tshow! The first mouthguard they made me ended up being so loose that it wouldn't even click into place. No big deal, I understand mistakes happen, so they retook the mold and sent it off to the lab to have a replacement made. When the second mouthguard came in, unfortunately it seemed like the lab overcorrected and it was way too tight. Dr. Andonian tried his best to shave it down and thin it out, but in the end the whole thing needed to be scrapped. So they took a THIRD mold and had it sent out. I was a bit annoyed at this point, but hey...third time's the charm, right? Well, unfortunately for me, not at Cardinal Dental. When the third mouthguard came in, it seemed to fit well enough and felt comfortable to me, but Dr. Andonian felt it just needed a little tweaking here and there so it would fit perfect. By the time he was done fiddling with it (shaving bits off here and there) there was literally a HOLE on one side of the mouthguard. (I've attached pictures to this Yelp review for verification). In disbelief, I asked him if he was serious given that a mouthguard is supposed to be solid in order to PROTECT ones teeth from grinding, not have holes in it which seemingly defeats the purpose. He just shrugged and said "it should be fine, but if not, we can make you a new one". He then went on to excuse the poor craftsmanship by saying that "mouth guards can be challenging to make" because the pockets have to fit just right over each individual tooth. While this explanation seems plausible, I've never had this experience with any other dentist in the past who's made me a mouthguard. Neither have any of my other friends who wear a mouthguard. I'm not sure why Dr. Andonian finds it to be such a struggle when (in general) having a mouthguard made seems a pretty straightforward, uncomplicated process for most others dentists? It should not take 3+ attempts to make a mouthguard. Either the dental technicians are rushing through the molding process/need more practice, the lab where the molds are sent off too is not providing a quality product or Dr. Andonian is getting carried away shaving off too much material when fitting. Perhaps it's a combination of the three. Anyhow...rather than rolling the dice on a FOURTH failed mouthguard attempt, I opted to just have Cardinal Dental refund me and I took my business elsewhere. Lastly, during the routine exam part of my visit, I expressed concern about the surface of one of my molars which has been ground down significantly over the years from excessive teeth grinding (prior to wearing a mouthguard). I asked whether I'd be needing a crown put on at some point in the near future. Dr. Andonian said I might need a crown and quite possibly a root canal too on that tooth. Confused, I asked why I would need a root canal when there's no damage to the root or nerves whatsoever. I also made it clear that I would not be getting a root canal done under any circumstance because I watched the documentary "ROOT CAUSE" and have since done a great deal of research into the alarming dangers of having root canals done. Dr. Andonian chuckled in amusement and quickly dismissed the validity of my concerns. I asked him if he'd watched the documentary or done any research into the matter beyond what he'd originally learned at school and he said NO. Bewildered by his response, I then asked him why he was laughing off and dismissing a documentary he admittedly never watched and additional information he admittedly never looked into. He just stared at me blankly. This is a HUGE red flag people. Any dentist/doctor who immediately laughs off information that they haven't been exposed to or taken the time to look into, rather than asking meaningful questions is NOT a clinician you want treating you. New medical discoveries happen all the time and doctors should (at the very least) be open to hearing about them or asking questions about them without the hubris of thinking they already know it all. read more

Took my son (minor) here for the last year for cleanings. Went in today for a cleaning and he comes out. I ask how he did and he says he has a few tiny cavities. No one came to talk to me. He then says dentist didn't even tell him how to prevent. I then go to the front desk to ask about his cavities and she says he has 5, yes FIVE and wants to set us up to have them all done. Now I have never spoken to the doctor and am getting all of this from the receptionist. I ask why we weren't told he had some on his last visit either and she said she did not know. So.. we left. My husband had to change dentists because of his insurance and I went along with him for the change. I just thought it would be easier to have the same dentist. What a mistake that was. First off, I had an appointment for x rays and a normal cleaning. I was there close to two hours before the cleaning ever started. They kept pushing me to do a deep cleaning and I just wanted the normal. The dentist did the cleaning and it honestly took maybe ten minutes. It was the worst cleaning I have ever had! Then one of the workers comes in with a menu of things that I need to have done. I felt like I was at a car dealership. It felt like just a money making business to me. Best and thorough service from start to finish. It was the best dental experience I've ever had. From the receptionist, exam, dentist, and dental hygienist: they were all super helpful, friendly, GREAT "bedside manners," and thorough. This place is affordable and was covered by my insurance. They threw in a couple free things that were covered under my insurance. For those WITHOUT INSURANCE, they have a reasonably priced care package/program with 2 exams and cleanings plus more. I recommended it to my family members who don't have insurance. For whatever reason, I have had many bad experiences with dentists and have come to not trust many for the places I've been to with good ratings are either very commercialized or try to sell you their services or products. This is not the case with this place; I did not feel pressured at all nor did they give try to sell me anything extra. They are busy so make sure you make an appointment in advance! read more

I signed up under medicare and was assigned to Cardinal Dental. You got me in and said I needed a deep cleaning right away. I came in shortly thereafter and had 1/2 of my teeth done (you only do half at a time). You collected 80% of the full cost and said you would call with an appointment for the second half. I had to call Cardinal as they did not call me.... and they scheduled the second half appointment for NOVEMBER saying they will call if there is a cancellation .. the first appointment was in APRIL. There is no excuse for this.... oh and by the way they no longer accept Medicare Delta Dental and wanted me to sign up for their own plan.... I am furious... read more
