But they came in a basket sitting in their own grease and that made them greasy and soggy. Flavor was good. We got no plates to share appetizers so that was difficult. Waited and waited and waited for small plates for appetizers but it was a no-go. That was the most disappointing part of the visit. We'd come back again. But hopefully a little more prompt service. They could have short-handed at 4pm on a Saturday.

Parking was limited but there was a church lot nearby that was empty that we used to park in and then walk over. Despite being somewhat remote, this spot clearly has a loyal following, as many people came in and out, often for to-go orders since the inside of the restaurant is pretty small. They have lots of food from both Chicago and NOLA -- regular offerings included Chicago dogs and Italian beefs, and then on Fridays they have a rotating special of items such as etouffee. You order at the counter here and prices are quite reasonable. My dad ordered a Chicago dog, my mom got a Philly cheesesteak, and I got an Italian beef. Sides are limited to bagged chips and drinks are canned/bottled, including the tea. The ladies working the register were nice. The highlight was definitely the Chicago dog. My dad loved it and ate it up. My mom didn't realize the cheesesteak came with onions on it, which is not her preference but it was okay. My Italian beef was honestly a little disappointing. It was sopping wet - I assume they dipped it - and I wish I'd been given the opportunity to make a call on whether I wanted it that way or with the au jus on the side or drizzled over the meat instead. The bread was really wet and soggy and it was hard to eat. The spicy giardiniera was very minimally spicy. But honestly the main detractor was that the beef itself was very tough and stringy. It was edible overall but I wouldn't reorder it. The high point was the service. The owner talked to everyone who came in and shared a bit about her life and the restaurant. She was incredibly pleasant and hospitable and made sure everyone felt at home. She does like to take pictures of each new patron of her establishment, which I'm sure some people could take or leave, lol. We didn't mind that much and enjoyed speaking with her. Worth a visit for a Chicago dog and lovely hospitality. The NOLA specials were smelling pretty good so those are probably worth a try too.

The chicken fried steak got rotated in with some pepper gravy (a bit watery) but these were the only nitpicks I found with my visit. Overall the best southern food and best buffet near Huntsville. My waitress ('Granny') was hustling, she made sure the plates were cleared and the drinks stayed full. Everyone seemed to know her and she was able to be friendly with the locals while taking care of business. All of the employees I saw were busy, wiping down the buffet lines, bringing in heaps of food and just making it a great experience. The value was phenomenal -- $12.50 for adults and $7 for kids. I wish they served Coke products and lived next door then they'd be perfect. If you're reading about this place and you live in Hunstville, its worth the drive.
