it's a good workout but it is not great. targets some areas, not a bad class, overpriced and never has good specials, if it was priced around 13 or 14 dollars a class it would be in the five star range, that's where this class should live - but for what it delivers at the price point, it falls short for me, I expect more. I do like the classes okay but they really are not particularly challenging. For a really challenging workout I would go to Barry's Bootcamp or M6 Fitness or SM Equinox (kettleball, etc), or Dice at Blackdog. read more

I purchased the Groupon and have attended 2 classes so far. This is definitely a booty-kickin' workout!! I know it's a good work out because I haven't been able make it all the way through either class, and I am so sore after!! So far, I have only taken class with Marita, but she is awesome and very inspiring. She is very cheerful and used my name from the first class! Loved that personal touch. The only issue I have is that I would like to see more classes (early morning, mid-day and later on the weekends). Have you ever had an experience that left you feeling completely "meh"? Like a meal that meets your general expectation, but when someone asks you what you had for dinner last night, you have to strain to remember it? Well, for me, that's Cardio Barre. It's a 3.5 star kind of experience. I'm one of the seven trillion people that bought a Cardio Barre Groupon deal of 10 classes for $39. Because seven trillion people bought it, well, the first few times I went to class, there were a lot of new people there, so the beginner classes were pretty packed. That's to be expected and is certainly not a problem, since we all got a crazy discount on classes... But for me to drop $160 on another ten classes, well, I have to feel like the class is SO good I can't live without it. I've been working out three to five days a week for a few years now. I have done a lot of different workouts, and I'm pretty strong, so after the third class, I started to feel bored with the routine. Incidentally, I'm more of a raver than a ballerina, so the whole choreographed routine thing is outside my wheelhouse. I absolutely cannot remember what move is called what without looking at the instructor, and I frequently find myself out of step with the class, which kind of cracks me up. I definitely prefer a workout that changes, as opposed to one that I can adjust to so quickly! I like to feel sore the next day, and if I come here more than once a month, I don't feel sore the next day. I really can't imagine paying $160 for ten sessions of the exact same routine! I've also noticed that the patrons here don't look like they're having fun. And they're not especially friendly, unlike nearby Pop Physique, which feels very upbeat and welcoming by comparison. That studio is probably half the size of Cardio Barre, though, so maybe that's the reason why it feels a little more intimate. For me, well, Cardio Barre just isn't anything special, although some sections of the workout are difficult enough to be fun. That being said, I think this is a great place to go if you're looking for a female-friendly gym that will get you back into the swing of working out. Also, the schedule offers a ton of options, so regardless of the hours that you work, if you plan, you'll be able to make a class or two a week! Last little side note: if you do go and try out Cardio Barre, don't be scared of the parking lot. There's a secret parking space in the back, all the way to the left, in between a dumpster and a giant white truck. You can't see it until you're right there, because of the stupid truck, and you can only park there after 5 PM, but it's there! read more

This is my favorite workout in LA. I've been doing it since high school and it never gets boring. I've tried almost every workout in LA -- Bar Method, Barrys, Cycling -- this reigns supreme. I love to sweat. The more drenched my shirt is the better I feel...that was before I had a kid. After taking a few years off due to just being so damn exhausted, I needed a challenge that was a doable challenge. This place is fantastic. I've only been to Kevin's class, he is wonderful (Kevin helps me in such a fun way that it motivates and gives me confidence to continue to improve) and the beginner classes kick my ass but in that hurt so good way. I started going because of a killer Groupon deal...the reasons why I'll go back are great workout and to work on my coordination (it's so bad, it's ridonkulous but I'm having fun and I'm sweating). If you really want to see results and are ready for consistency, try out cardio barre. You will start noticing your body tone up within 3 sessions. I have taken a few courses and all the classes have been so entertaining. The trainers have great personalities and are always enthusiastic. Two of my favorite coaches are Francesco and Courtney. After the workout is done, the last ten minutes are the best - a complete zen mode. I am one of those annoying people who piss off the veterans of Cardio Barre because I got the groupon and am one of those people who wait in line patiently and hope to find space at the bar. Groupon is a great way for people who had never heard of Cardio Barre and were looking for a new, interesting work out to get in shape. So, get over it. I don't really understand why people are having negative encounters with the staff. I haven't ever experienced that....in fact, I'm always greeted with a smile and sometimes even by name. Whenever I have questions, the blonde woman who is at the front desk almost all weekday evenings (I don't know her name, sorry!) happily answers them. Yes, classes can be crowded, especially the beginner classes. After having moved up to the advanced classes (HOLY CRAP), the class size is significantly decreased. I expect that once the Groupon expires in July, the class sizes will be down again. I've had 3 instructors...Rachael, Stacey, and Wendy. It's a toss-up but I think my favorite is Stacey. She is so positive and helpful. I like how all the instructors turn their mic off when they're correcting you...no one is ever embarrassed or feels bad for needing their form fixed. Plenty of street parking (Don't be lazy you can walk that 100 feet from your car to the place.... you're coming to exercise, remember?) I've only been here twice but its awesome. Super spacious and plenty of room so you're not kicking each other's feet. Happens a lot to me, I'm 5'10. Laura Perry is by far, the best instructor I've had. This is in comparison to the couple people I've tried in Brentwood. She actually cares about her students and their technique. It's not just about moving fast with her it's about moving right. This was my first barre class ever. I found the groupon over the weekend and thought I would try it out, i am SO very glad that I did! I took the 7am beginner class with Marita and it was GREAT! So much fun, I can't wait to go back on Thursday! Easy to get to, easy parking, super friendly people, smallish intimate class (of course that could be because it is the day after a holiday weekend). He is truly amazing one of my favorites now, even though my schedule does not allow me to take his class I will definitely try. I love this ballet inspired workout-- it makes me feel like a real dancer while kickin' my ass! The music mixes are fun, too; sometimes I drift off to a memory of the club or my raver days and I completely forget that I'm working out! I just discovered Jess' beginner's classes and I'm hooked! She keeps me cheery in the way she sings and dances for us (or herself) and her energy and gentle but firm words of encouragement inspire me to put forth my best effort. I like that she often stops to correct our posture and positioning, emphasizing quality over quantity. She's also really sweet and effervescent without being annoying--hard to come by in the workout instructor world. I'll put it to you this way: I like Jess's classes enough I'm actually considering paying FULL PRICE for a Cardiobarre membership once my Living Social deal expires! read more

I've taken at least 20 classes here (2 10-class packages) and I really enjoyed it. Some of the exercises are a bit strange at first, but you get used to them after a while. My legs definitely feel the burn during and after class. Classes are fast paced (they even speed up the music), so first-timers should probably go to an intro class first. The instructors rarely break down the moves during normal classes. My favorite parts of the class are the abs and arms portions. I really feel stronger after those, even if it's a challenge to get through them. The "Cardio Thighs" portion, as the instructors call it, is a bit difficult for me. I have to do that section on the floor to protect my back and stop myself from hyper-extending my legs. I really hurt myself one time, probably from bad form. The instructors are mindful of this and do offer adjustments if there's time/not too many people. They also go around to everyone in the class to make sure they have the correct form. - The downside is that the classes can get extremely full - three people to a bar instead of two highly restricts your movements. - Get there early to get a free parking spot in the lot behind the storefronts. - They rarely (if ever) offer discounts/specials to returning customers, which is a bummer. **Byron's classes are awesome!!! He's a fun instructor and seems to give more tips throughout the classes. He also changes the workouts up a bit more to keep people on their toes (literally!) and prevent laziness. read more

I enjoyed Cardio Barre. It's fun and the instructors are great. Parking is not so great unless you take the 7am class. Some classes get really crowded too, so prepared to get super close to your neighbor's derrière. For the price, I'd rather pay a little more and go to my Pilates studio, where everyone knows you by name and makes corrections as needed. I bought a package of classes on Living Social for this place, and when I'm done, I will continue to attend these. First of all, this is one of the few places I've purchased a voucher for that treated me exactly the same as a regular paying customer: They took my info, gave me a barcoded keychain to scan that keeps track of my classes, and did it all with a welcoming smile. I've only worked with Kevin so far as an instructor, but he's very encouraging and makes sure that everyone is using proper form while pushing you just enough. Got the groupon for this place. It was the first barre workout I tried and I was hooked! It's a nice big studio and the instructors are great. They are constantly walking around the room watching and adjusting. The only thing is the classes seem a little pricey compared to other trendy workout studios which is why I didn't continue with them afterwards (I actually got the groupon for hwood instead...) I have taken other "cardio" classes in the past and decided to give this place a try. The staff is friendly and the instructors are helpful and encouraging throughout the entire workout. It was challenging the first two sessions, but the routines get easier if you stick to it. I've only taken the beginner classes but I've already noticed a difference in my posture and core strength ( approx. 3 weeks). In order to see results take at least 2-3 classes a week. The schedule is great they have evening classes, but allow 10-15 minutes before class to find parking. They have a parking lot in the back, but it gets full quickly. However, there is plenty of free parking on Riverside Dr/ Whitsett. Each class is $16/$17 but well worth it! read more

I've been going a few times a week, for over a year. It's the only barre workout I've taken (and trust me, I've tried them all) that has consistent instructors and delivers what it promises... Hard core cardio. I'm a HUGE fan of Leslie's advanced classes (Sat & Sun). Her cues are easy to understand and she somehow manages to make her way around the room- constantly giving adjustments to form (along with an encouraging tap on the back). Her class is never the same and I always leave feeling like I got my $$ worth. Richard's class is amazing also-- he created this method, so of course his class is tough! First timers should really stick to the beginners class-- it helps to learn the choreography... Bring a towel, water and pick a spot in the middle. read more

What a rush! No really - everything you do here is rushed. Classes are always on time and every exercise you do transitions quickly into each other and are done rapidly! I've never experienced something like this before and I think it's pretty great! The workout is sped up so you can really work your muscles while getting some low-impact cardio in. You leave tired, but not TOO tired or winded. After my first time I was surprised by this, but by the time I got home I could not move! Stacey kicked our asses. I've had a class with Demian too and he's also great - very friendly and clear. Negative comments: parking is a bitch and classes get CROWDED, so get here around 15-20mins before class starts. Personally, I'd do this class one day, then more high-impact cardio (running, aerobics, etc.) another day. I'm glad I got this groupon! read more

Never tried a bar workout before but I had always heard it was a great workout. Once I saw the Groupon, I had to buy it. I have been to 2 classes already and I really enjoy it. It is a great way to mix up your workouts. I go on Tuesday/Thursday 6:30pm beginner class. Definitely get there early as the place gets packed quickly. It is a great workout for your legs and butt and some abs too. The music is great, the class is fast paced and I feel great afterwards. I also like that there are treadmills and other workout equipment there so you can do that also. The girl at the front desk is very nice and helpful. Overall, I really enjoy the workout. read more

I'm back! Finally! I bought a pack of classes which seem to be the best value. The routines are ever so slightly different then I remember or rather a few movements are a bit different and every instructor is slightly different. I'm going at various times now and have about three different instructors with my favorites being Rachel and Laura. I miss Demian though. Saw something on the internet recently and apparently he was listed as the best barre instructor but no idea where he is now :( Also, even if you are uncoordinated like me, it's totally fine and kinda funny! I never feel stupid and just laugh it out whilst trying to keep moving. If I actually think about what I'm doing all is good but if I'm off with the fairies thinking of other things not so good so I try to go there prepared to work out though that doesn't always happen. And god help me if I see anyone else in class out of time or using the wrong leg, I'm totally screwed. Even more so when even more uncoordinated newbies pick spots either side of me!! I tend to pick people in the room who know what they are doing and follow them, stalker like. I did think the repetitive nature of the class would get to me but it helps to know what you are in for next and it flows easily. What you get out of the class is ENTIRELY dependent upon what you put in. There isn't much difference in the beginner or advanced class but in advance it's a bit quicker as you are expected to know the moves but either way you work out at your own pace and you can make the work out more difficult by lifting higher, faster or squeezing tighter etc. For me, having a knee injury means I can't twist and bounce so the class is great and still a great cardio work out. If I skip the gym in the morning I know I can take a class at night though I can't do that too often or I will go over my two class a week rule. Too $$ otherwise. read more

When you finish you feel aligned, refreshed and energized. The class is lead by Founder, Richard Giorla. He guides you through class, one movement at a time. He takes the time to describe each movement and make adjustments to technique as needed. I find myself being able to feel each muscle work. So far, so good. I went to my first class this week with Jess, a beginners class. She was very patient with this newbie. I loved the class, it's high energy but not impossible. I felt uncoordinated, but figure that will get better with time. The front desk staff was nice, helped me get all connected with my Living Social deal. Yes, it's expensive when you don't have a deal. I'm sure they lose a lot of people when they start to have to charge full price. The class was crowded, but not impossible to find a spot, and the studio is roomy. I just LOVE cardio barre! I have been going at least once a week for 5 months and I have really noticed the change in my body. I started going to look good for my wedding. Now that the wedding is over, I still want to continue! I would go more, but the classes can get a bit pricey. That's really my only downfall with this class. After my first class I was hooked and couldn't stop thinking about going back. In that same first class I got such a good workout that I thought I was going to loose my breakfast! Yes....I still returned! It got better much better for me week after week. The time always goes by fast. The instructors are super friendly and supportive. I agree with the yelper who said " It's like ballet on speed!" It has really helped tone my body without having to put strain on my joints. You definitely get a low impact workout. Even though the first few classes I got lost with the terminology (I never took dance or ballet), the instructors really worked all of our muscles. It's almost like modern aerobics, with lots of leg lifting, buttock burning and arm toning. I nice change of pace from regular gym workouts. read more

I love this workout class. I have a dance background so for me I love the ballet and barre exersizes intertwined with cardio. It's a great workout that will make you sweat and you'll definitely feel the next day. I like to mix things up by taking advanced as well as beginner. Advanced is pretty fast paced, and beginner you get a pretty fast pace but a few more 30 second breaks and even though it's slightly slower I find it helps me concentrate more on my technique. I also find I like some teachers more than others, my favorites being Leslie, Lisa, and Stacey. I only wish the individual classes here were as cheap as the other cardio barre studios. For some reason studio city is the most expensive. Maybe because its the original? Anyway Studio city charges $17 per class and in comparison you could go to cardio barre in Simi valley and pay $15 read more

Edited 28 March: STILL no response from the studio manager or owners, however Social Living did refund in full my coupon. No questions asked. THEY get 100%, 5 stars. Cardio Barre, still at a one and sinking faster than rocks. Edited 9 February: so far NO response from the studio manager or owners, however I did complain to Social Living and they refunded my voucher in full, so major kudos/stars to them. If you're unhappy I would suggest that option, the only way to take Cardio Barre to task is hit them in the pocket. I purchased a package via Social Living thinking I would supplement my Yoga practice with some cardio...I am also a wannabe dancer and hey doing both would be fun, if work. Right? Not. So. Much. I walked out of the intro class given once per week, told my frustrations to the front desk staff and sent the email below. On Sunday. I have yet to receive ANY response from the studio manager or owners. KEEP AWAY FROM THIS PLACE, they want your money and nothing else. "Since this is a general email, I don't know that it will serve any other purpose than to allow me to further vent upon the WORST experience I have ever had in an alleged introduction class to any workout or gym. Let me reiterate INTRO CLASS, the one we must - or are supposed - to take prior to entering the beginning class, or as the "teacher" said "they won't teach you this in beginning so pay attention here." Something I would have loved to do. I know nothing from first to fifth, plié from Balançoire, I DO know that an INTRODUCTORY class should be explaining this so one may learn, so that one may participate and not stand there dumbfounded. It should not be tossed out in an offhanded manner then demonstrated in a 2-8 time so that one is standing there so frustrated and angry one walks out. Walking around the class demonstrating is not the same as teaching, it is not the same as watching the class or asking the class to participate slowly then builds into a 2-8 time. I use this term, as one the "teacher" quoted since again, I know nothing from 2-8 time except it was too fast to follow in an INTRODUCTORY class. I keep capitalizing INTRODUCTORY since it is apparent that we have different definitions of the word. It is truly regrettable that Social Life will not allow my voucher to be refunded since it is over the time limit for use vs. refund. I have emailed to request they make an exception and I hope they agree it would be the right thing to do. I will be the one saying do not participate in any Cardio Barre classes as they do not teach well and they do not have "teachers" that will guide beginners through the process. Unfortunate, since from what I saw when I was standing there watching since I couldn't keep up or understand, looked like something I might enjoy. Flying through the lesson, then standing there saying, "So anyone need another view, no? Okay, next we're doing." is not teaching, it is "teacher" ego, that she knows more than I do and dammit if I don't keep up then sucks to be me." read more

I'm not one to typically write bad reviews for places simply because I try to only state the positive. However, my recent experience at cardio barre left me feeling the need to sound off. My girlfriend bought me a recent Living Social coupon ($40 for 10 classes, I believe) for this location because she knows how much I love Cardio Barre but simply cannot afford their prices. I excitedly skipped over there with her to use our coupons and instantly got turned away. Yes, the fine print said it was good for first timers only, but how was I supposed to know? It was a gift. I asked the girl at the desk (who was a total sweetheart.. All the ladies who work there are usually really nice) if she knew if they'd ever offer coupons or discounts to current students. She said probably not, they only really care about the new students. So alas, I did not take a class that day, and I probably won't go back. Why not show some love to your current customers? They are the ones that rave about the class to their friends and bring you new people. I personally have told probably 50 people to go try it out.The owner boasts that it's cheaper than other workout facilities, but I beg to differ. Many other places offer student, senior, and package discounts. The packages at cardio barre offer little to no money off. I personally (and I think many others would agree) that it's nice to feel a sense of community at the place you choose to work out at... Especially if you're pouring all your money into it. There are so many other places that make you feel welcome in their facility, Cardio Barre simply does not. It makes me sad, because it is a great workout! Onto the next! read more

I'm not sure why anyone goes to this class. It is bar work minus the technique at an absurdly hyper speed set to terrible, hyper techno music. If you already know basic ballet bar work, you are better off just doing a bit of it on your own. If you don't, you can look up a few moves online. read more

I have been taking Cardio Barre now for 5 months (2-3 times a week) and I absolutely love it. Pros: -Free Parking...Lot or Street (recommend arriving 10-15 mins early to find a spot) -Friendliest instructors and staff (they remember your name pretty well) -Friendly students and great atmosphere, doesn't matter if you are the best or worst, you shouldn't feel that awkward discomfort sometimes felt when you can't keep up with the others. Most people are pretty concentrated on their own technique and perfecting their own form that they don't have time to look around and worry about yours. -Workout is an amazing way to get in the exercise without feeling like you are exercising (I call this my workout treat for the week) -Great music selections! -Fav instructors so far: Sadie, Kevin and Jess! -Richard (the founder) teaches here too if you want to take from him (I recommend doing at least one because that's kinda cool) -Yes you will sweat! Yes you will be sore! Yes you will feel great when done! Yes it's a definite workout! Cons: -Some classes can get crowded but it's not consistent so you never know when that will be. Just show up early. -The class itself is excellent but can become a repetitive workout after a while (for example: the warm up, cardio section, center floor work, and cool down are always exactly the same). But each instructor tries to add in their own stuff throughout the other sections so hopefully you stay engaged. I would recommend mixing this workout in your week with others so you don't get bored. I come to Cardio Barre when I am tired and need something to motivate me to go, I want to do this one because it makes me excited to "dance" instead of just running or lifting. Coming here is motivating for sure. -It's definitely a pricey investment -You will feel the results for sure. And if you are an active person or skinny but need some toning help this is a great workout that may produce visible results for you. But don't expect it to be like a "Biggest Loser" kind of transformation. Everyone's body is different. People that go here are typically dancers or previous dancers so when you see these beautiful bodies, don't just assume it's because of this workout. They probably do A LOT more training outside this class a few times a week. After 5 months I notice a slight toning in my muscles but I wouldn't say it's exactly what I was hoping for......yet. First timer? Here are my suggestions: -CHECK GROUPON FIRST----I wish I had because I paid for the 10-class ($170) package and Groupon had it for $49!!!!!!!! Once you are a student there, you can't buy the Groupon Deal :-/ -Bring a beach towel and water bottle -Wash your feet! You do this workout barefoot -Even if you are a dancer or in great shape take the "Beginner" class. It's more like an intermediate level and the work out is just as hard as the Advanced just at a slightly slower pace so you can learn the moves you're doing since some are kind of awkward the first time -Try to find a spot by someone that's been in the class before so you can follow them since the instructor will not stop to show you the moves -Finally, even though there are many Cardio Barre locations, each is a franchise. That means that while you have a 10-class pass for one location, you can only use it at that location. (The upside to this? You can buy multiple Groupons for each location as a "first timer"). Just finished my first class ever here, and I must say that I'm really, really tired. If you put in 100%, your muscles really feel it (heck, they might even if you put in 50-75%). I took the Advanced class because I was 45 minutes late to the hour long Beginner's class, thanks to bumper to bumper cars on Sunset and the 405. Thanks a lot google--"31 minutes with traffic" my ass. Once I got there, I hopped into the end of the Beginner's class and then went straight into the Advanced class. Big mistake. Beads of sweat popped out onto my forehead after mere minutes as the class began to vigorously kick, press, and bicep curl. I struggled to keep my legs from wobbling (read: shaking uncontrollably) while I tried to plie with my heels raised for literally 5 minutes. I finished the workout in the end, but it was killer. Moral of the story: go to cardio barre if you want a great workout for your legs, arms, and stomach. It's toning and aerobic all in one. read more

First cardio barre class last week! Redeemed a Groupon that was about to expire and I'm so happy I did! As someone who was a former gymnast/martial artist and who continues to train as a surfer and at the gym, my first class was pretty tough! Half of it was learning the routine/movements while keeping up with the rigorous pace of the class. I took a Sunday morning beginners class and I'm glad I did, because the advance may have been out of my skill right now. But I know after a couple classes I'll be ready to move to the advance if I choose to, so it's definitely something to train for! Classroom was clean and there was only a slight smell of feet, but could have been my own stinking up the place! read more

Classes are fun and an awesome workout. However, do not expect to feel like your business is valued. They have terrible customer service. After 10 plus years in customer service management, I am always astonished by businesses that don't care if you become a returning customer or student in this case. read more
