I have been coming here for about 6 months now. I got in a bad car wreck and this lighter impact and high cardio workout was perfect for me to heal. Now that I have fully healed, it isn't really challenging me in the same way. But, overall, this is a legitimately great workout for people on the mend or who want to change it up. That said, here is why I am giving it two stars - customer service. I purchased a Groupon deal (after having attended classes here previously) for $39/10 classes. Classes here are not cheap at all ($17/class) and I didn't see anywhere that I could only purchase this is I were a new client. I printed my voucher (it's not on the fine print on the voucher) rushed off set 15 minutes early and drove to this class. The front desk attendant said, "Have you been here before?" before greeting me and just after seeing the voucher in my hands. I said "Yes, here is my card" and she said, "Yeah, so, you can't use this. It's for first timers only. You can buy two classes and have a $2 credit or you can get your money back." I said, "It doesn't say anywhere on here that you have to be new to use it." She grabbed the voucher and said, "It does" then looked down and seeing that it did not say it was for first timers said, "Well it's online, so you can't use it." She then began speaking over me when I attempted to further explain thinking maybe she was thinking of an older deal for which that rule was true. After asking for clarification she said, "Are you staying or going?" I said, "Well, I'm here so I will buy a single class." I paid and politely asked her to please show me where on the deal it states these rules so that I do not make this mistake in the future. She said, "Sure." and took the girl behind me. To be fair, she did say, "Sorry that you didn't see it on there" and to also be fair, I went back and checked the Groupon deal and she was correct - in the fine print it did state it was for first time clients. That oversight was totally my fault. I'm not an issue starter and I hate confrontation. I also hate my time being wasted and people that work in customer service being rude. I was not rude to her, therefore what warrants that reaction? I don't need you to fawn over me, but be nice. And, since this has happened before, I think the issue might not be on the side of the consumer? I also assume this is the message she is being told by her boss which absolves her partially. Look I've worked in marketing and for ad agencies before - I get it. They are taking a loss on this and it is an advertising expense to get new clients. It's a good idea as a business. What is a bad idea as a business is treating existing clients like they are stupid and/or an annoyance in your day. If she had a boss that cared about the business, she would have said, "A lot of existing clients miss that fine print. I'm so sorry. I think it's in the fine print on the deal, but I could be totally wrong. Since this keeps happening, it's probably an oversight. Let me at least offer you a package of 5 classes at 30% off to make up for it. We can apply the $39 credit towards that." Or something along those lines. For the $39 they saved, they have lost a regular patron. I will never return. It's entirely about approach. If customers are an inconvenience to you, there is a simple way to solve that. I blame reality TV. ;) read more

I LOVE cardio barre. It is the only thing that completely distresses me after a busy work day or at the end of a long work week! The instructors are incredible- from Kevin, Francesco, Laura, Marita, Leslie, and Adair. They are all so motivating to take classes from. My only thoughts are these 1) It would be really really nice if some new CD's were created. 2) The unlimited month is no longer available. So, I am paying per class every time I go and it's really expensive. Because of my career, it doesn't make sense for me to purchase unlimited all year long. I am not always available to go multiple times each week. My request is to please bring back the unlimited month purchase. :) That's why I give cardio barre a 4. Best workout Ive had in a long time. It's so much fun being in a room with girlfriends pretending we're all ballerinas. It's a full body workout, the instructors are incredibly energetic and encouraging, and you stretch and do things you didn't know existed. I love it and am addicted! read more

If you're looking to get in shape but don't like to workout... this is the place. I can't stand running or any type of jarring physical exercise. Cardio Barre offers an extreme workout with no impact... but don't let that fool you. I can't believe how much I sweat when I come here. One word of advice... I highly recommend the Intro class! They will teach you all the moves and the proper way to do them. This way you can get the most out of your first class and won't have to be looking around to figure out what's going on. And expect to hurt after your first couple of classes. One last thing... come early because the parking sucks and the classes fill up but it's totally worth it! read more

If you're used to a Russian woman yelling at you during ballet class, you'll be happy to know Cardio Barre will give you the same intense workout without the strain you would otherwise get from said Russian lady pushing your leg up and over your head. As many ballet dancers know, knees and ankles give out, and it can often be challenging to find a class that will give us the same intensity without all the joint pressure--Cardio Barre has definitely mastered this. If I understand correctly, the genius who started the class/studio was a dancer who was injured but still wanted to feel the kind of workout dancers know and love. You will be exhausted the rest of the day after a class here, but feel SO incredible!! Get there early because classes fill up FAST and start out slow if you aren't used to such intense workouts! read more

This place kicks your ass! haha. Great workout! As a dancer im so glad there is something that you can go to between dance classes and get an equally if not better workout to keep in shape. The only downside I would say to this place is the price. Loved my first class. But boy did it leave me sore. And I go to the gym regularly. Let me start off by telling you what you need to bring. Yoga pants cuz you will be bending a lot and no one wants to see crack. A towel because you will sweat and be on the floor. And you can either go bare foot but I prefer to wear socks. I did see 2 women in shoes but that's not the norm. So I bought the groupon deal and wanted to take a beginners class since I've never taken one before. But the beginners class schedule just didn't fit with mine that week so I went ahead and took an advance class. I've taken ballet for years in the past and do cardio classes at my gym so I thought hey, it can't be that different. Ummmmm yea it was. First of all its like ballet movements on crack! I mean at one point the music was Eminem's The real slim shady, and if you know the rapper you know how fast he raps, well this song was sped up like 3 times and it just made you thing about at what BPM your moving too. It was sooooo fast!!!!! I had trouble keeping up not to the exercises Because I could do all the reps the teacher wanted but I had trouble keeping up with the speed. I think I was concentrating on my form just because I wanted to make sure I was doing the exercises right. Also because I remember how my ballet instructor when I was a little girl would glare at me and yell "stick your butt in! And press your shoulders out! Your not the little tea pot!!!" She was very concerned with gait and posture as she should be. Well at one point the girl next to me at the barre pointed out that my toes were pointed the wrong way (and I was grateful for her help), so I'm sure I wasn't getting all the movements down in time. The instructor even had to tell me to turn around once since every one had rotated and I just couldn't hear the instructor. I couldn't hear one word the instructor said. I think his name was Richard. Seriously maybe I was hypnotized at how fast shady was rapping but I could only pick up words like "third position" or him counting but that's about all I could hear over the music. I stayed around a little for the next class and did notice that the other instructor had the music down a little more and it was easier to hear her. To bad I couldn't take that class. Even though I didn't get any individual attention, he was walking around and did look at me, so maybe I should assume I was doing alright. Cons: No individual attention The class was really full and I was told that was just half occupancy. What?! The music was really loud and I had trouble hearing the instructor. Pros: The instructor was very good. With the amount of movements to repetitions I really felt a burn. I got all sweaty and felt like I had a great work out:) The location and parking was easy and perfect for me. The exercises really focused on my thighs and glutes which is exactly what I'm looking for. The space was big and bright and clean and the staff was very helpful and friendly. Floor was vacuumed when we arrived for the first class. But I can see it getting dirty if they don't clean I between classes. For the price you can't get a better workout. -------------------------------------------------- I should have taken the beginners class and really figured out the movements. Maybe I will next class but I don't know I thought I did pretty well. I think if you have self confidence and don't mind looking like a dork while you figure it out and if your somewhat fit, you can skip the beginner class like I did. Sure it comes with some frustrations but you get past it and enjoy a great workout. Final thought. This was an amazing class for 5$ I mean groupon really introduced me to something amazing this time. However. If I was paying 19$ a class, I don't think I would like how crowded it got and how much little attention I was given. But that's just on my budget. Maybe 19$ for a one hour class isn't much for people. But I have a 60$/month membership to a gym that is never crowded and offers cardio classes all week long included in the membership. That would buy me only 3 classes at Cardio barre in a month. I really hope that I can find similar deals like groupon to this place in the future once my classes run out. It was really a great work out. Update:: I hurt my back really bad because I was over confident :( I guess I'll take the beginner classes from now on and not have to spend my money at the chiropractors fixing what I messed up here. read more

I was inspired today to right this review after coming to Kevin's new noon class! Love that there is now a noon class for those of us with crazy weird schedules. All the classes from beginner to advanced are great and challenging! Every teacher I have taken is great and makes everyone feel energized and does a great job giving advice to perfect your form! Jess, Kevin, Laura, Sadie and Francesco! All yall Rock! Sorry if I left anyone out but those are the only instructors I've had. Well, this was a wonderful place to work out and we all played top $$$$ to do this.....And than due to their mass sign up....its awful!!!!! The classes are way way to crowded, you cant even do the exercises that were so good before because of room. We all really supported Richard and now he gave this offer to all people ( except the people that have been supporting him all along) its just like a big YMCA...gone is what we payed for before he got greedy!!!! LOVE the classes and most of the instructors but PARKING SUCKS at this location. Parking is always full in the lot and cardio barre doesn't have any designated spots for students like every other business in the strip does. Now that there's construction (and will be for awhile) on Whitsett there's almost no street parking. I have now missed a few classes due to not finding parking. Frustrating to drive there and then waste my time. If you can't get there 20 min early for a class you will probably not find parking at this time. read more

This place is so amazing!!! I bought a Groupon for 10 classes, and already felt my money's worth after my second class! This place was my first time taking barre ever and I'm so glad I chose this place! It actually took me a week to decide which place to try because there were also Groupon deals for other barre studios, but I chose this place based off of yelp reviews. Such a wonderful studio! I love the set up and it's a big enough place with room for plenty of students a class. Richard Giorla, the owner of CardioBarre is amazing!! He usually teaches at least once or twice a week at this location and he is THE BEST!! of course right? He really puts you to work and really watched and checks on every single student, making sure we have the correct form. I love it! He really enjoys what he does and shows it. He is an amazing instructor and if you ever get the chance, take his class!! So worth it, whether it's your first time or you've been doing it for a while. He will always teach you something new. He is also very motivational! He always says something that either pushes you to work harder or makes you feel good about coming to class today. I also enjoy Sadie's class. I was only able to take her class once but she also put me to work and I had a lotttt of fun with her. Really worth trying for anyone who is new to barre. You start off stretching and doing exercises at the barre. Then you also work with small weights (1lb-3lbs) and then you do some work off the barre (mostly targeting abs and glutes) and then some nice stretches at the end. I've only done beginner classes so far and they're all the same, just every instructor teaches a little differently so it doesn't get boring. Music is fun and upbeat too. You move very fast in this class with little breaks. Fun fun fun and great workout! I'm thinking of getting a membership after I finish my Groupon classes :) read more

I did the 11:30am intro class on Saturdays. When I got there the advanced class was leaving- lots of fit girls in their twenties in cute ballet inspired ensembles. My class, however (being the intro) was me and a few sixty year old ladies, and one portly man. Now, I am not the fittest of fit, but I do it up on the treadmill from time to time, so I thought this was going to be a piece of cake. It was not. It was most likely the harest workout I had in years- I was sore for five days in muscles I had never felt before. I could see now how it would be impossible to not look like the adorable ballerinistas if I continue to do this on a regular basis. My only complaint is that there is nothing like it in my 'hood (echo park). Can someone franchise one, please!! read more

My friends and I LOVED the Sat. 10:30 Cardio Barre class! WHY was it changed to a mat/floor class??? NO cardio, NO barre. We tried the floor class yesterday and really did not like it - you do not get the kind of workout you get with the regular class. I used to wake up Sunday feeling sore and I loved it! I purchased over $500 in classes just prior to the new class schedule change and, unfortunately, now I'm stuck with a class that is inferior to the regular class. My schedule only only allows for a Sat. 10:30 class. We talked to the girl at the desk about the changes and asked what others were saying and apparently a lot of people are not happy with the change made. RICHARD - I love Cardio Barre! If you see this, PLEASE PLEASE change the Sat. schedule back to 10:30 regular class. Add a floor class at 11:30 !!!!!! read more

Such a good workout. You will be sore for sure. I felt the soreness in my upper back, lower back, abs, triceps, gluts, hamstrings, and calves. TOTAL body work out. I hate going to the gym (I hate going on the cardio machines and lifting weights), so I've been going to Cardio Barre and Bikram Yoga (alternating) and some gym time (b/c $15/class adds up!!) and it makes working out so much more palatable. read more

This is a great workout if you stick to it. A friend of mine introduced me to cardio barre and we went after thanksgiving in 2010 and hadn't been back consistently until this year. Definitely get there early to find parking because it is limited in the lot in the back and some spaces there is an attendant that charges 3 bucks. There maybe a line but you can bypass and sit in the floor to wait or just sit in a chair, people put their purses on the chairs but that doesn't mean they are saving seats. If you are going for the 1st time make sure you position yourself between 2 regulars, it can be slightly confusing but the more you go you will get the hang of it. The instructors do variations of the moves and they demonstrate before they do it. Some regulars may already begin the move before the class does it just focus on the instructor because you cannot knock someone who wants to get extra moves in. Trust me you WILL take some breaks your first class but it's all good though. Classes are now $17 which had gone up since the summer. If you are able to catch the groupon $45 special do so because you save so much instead of paying the regular $160 for 10 classes. Take a bath towel because the last parts of the class they work your abs and butt on the floor. The carpet is black and the staff vacuum at least 3x a day. If you are a germaphobe get over yourself, because by the time you are done you will be needing a shower anyways. The instructors are awesome especially Laura, Rachel (she does evenings), Mickie(she comes as a sub), Richard(owner, and he will work your ass off!) They typically use great music as well which helps in keeping you motivated. If you bought the groupon and if you can go with a friend do so because you will begin to see the results and you two can motivate each other. I LOVE cardio barre! I first was introduced to the woodland hills location last year, from groupon, and have been hooked ever since! Taking it with the actual creator is awesome to, Richard really makes sure your in the correct form and the vibe in their is always fun. I have gotten a lot more flexible since beginning and I feel a lot better after the class, really renewed, especial the yoga like last few minutes. THis is the best workout ever. I have never stuck to a workout as long as I have this one. Its now been about 3 years or so, and I am religiously going at least twice a week. The instructors are great, the workout still remains challenging and my body looks amazing. Class is energetic and fun. I don't understand why Richard's class is always so busy. I don't think he is friendly at all. Classes are expensive however the next day, your muscles hurt and you really feel that you've worked out. One huge problem that I have with cardio barre is that their class is always incredibly busy. It makes me not want to go. Sharing sweat with strangers isn't really my thing. They could fix the problem by opening afternoon classes at 1:30pm and 3:30pm, but they're not and I'm not sure why. Also, they have 2 classes on week-ends, which is ridiculous considering that this is the time when people are off and have the time to work out. They should have 15 classes on week-ends, not 2. Overall, class is ok but a bit too crowded and stressful. Finishing up my class package and will look for somewhere else to go to for exercising. I really wished I have liked it! read more

I'm in my early twenties and have been coming to Cardio Barre since high school. I absolutely love it because each class works all the major muscle groups, while the quick 8-count reps ensure a fat-burning zone heart rate throughout (I try to push myself hard every class, and my heart rate tends to range between 120-150 BPM during the class). Quick Tips: 1) Initially, grab a spot by the mirrors. Watching yourself in the mirror really helps you perfect your form, and perfect form is essential for the exercises to work the proper muscle groups. 2) KEEP YOUR ABS TIGHT THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE CLASS. Otherwise you can really do a number on your lower back, and you'll be sore in a not-so-good way the next day. As I mentioned before, form is really key for the exercises to be effective. I brought a friend one time, and she "didn't find the class hard at all," because she was just flinging her flexible limbs everywhere. The class is about deliberate, controlled movements, so keep your muscles tight, toes pointed, and you'll feel the burn in all the right places. I love the environment, and the class is filled with the most beautiful collection of bodies I've ever seen in my life -- all ages, all stages, all long, lean, and toned. So clearly Cardio Barre is doing something right. read more

I really like taking Cardio Barre classes. Amy is a great instructor and I love her enthusiasm. The studio is very clean. I think Cardio Barre is like any workout, you have to stick with it and go consistently to see results. My only problem is that classes are kind of pricey in my opinion so I can't really go more than once per week. It's a great workout to end the day if you have a desk job. You definitely feel the burn and a sense of accomplishment after you finish a class. read more

Finally got a groupon for his place and went to my 1st class this morning. I've done Bar Method, Pure Barre and Pop Phyisque so Im not a novice to this to this type of workout. Nevertheless, I took a space in front of the mirror that was near others who looked like they had been there before. The routine is faster than others bar workouts and seems very scripted. I watched the earlier class and the routine was very similar. This tends to be the MO with these types of classes. I did find that I was sweating more in this class though. I can't imagine taking this class only. I plan to work this class into my workout routine (cardio/weight, Pilates, spin and TRX) so it works out nicely. read more

I am absolutely addicted to Cardio Barre! I was hooked the first time I took Jess's beginner class. She is very personable and makes sure she meets the needs of all her clients. I have been attending Cardio barre for 5 months now. Every now and then I will drop in an advanced class for an extra challenge but then again Jess's beginner class kicks my butt about the same and that's awesome. I have seen incredible results all over my body and that has raised my confidence to an all time high, besides sculpting my body I feel so strong. I love her personality in class. She makes the class so inviting and a fun experience every time I go. Jess has not only inspired me in class but she has inspired me to make change in my every day life. I have altered my eating habits to better myself and I now view the world in a more positive aspect. I am sad when we have subs for her class because she is honestly the BOMB.COM, and the only one who can light up the room with her sparkling disposition! I wanted to give Cardio barre a few months before writing a review, so here it is, 5 months later... I highly recommend purchasing the Groupon to give it a try to determine whether this workout is for you. Anyone that tells you this is an easy workout must be doing it wrong. And I consider myself to be in excellent shape, coming from a crossfit background (plus everything else, Boot Camps, Kickboxing, Cycling, Pilates, Yoga...). The studio has been there a while, but hey take excellent care of it as it's always clean and well kept. Parking is pretty easy; not much in back 9the spots right in front are WAYYY too tight), but plenty along Riverside Drive. The members aren't very friendly, which I don't mind, because I prefer to go in, get my workout in and leave. However, the front desk staff are super friendly and always call me by name and remind me when my monthly membership is coming to an end a few days in advance. The classes: My first class was with Jess and let me tell you, I saw stars. She will definitely give you a good workout, but she is so energetic and motivating. Kevin is also one of my favorites - he has to be the sweetest guy ever! And he will help you out and correct you as needed, which doesn't always happen at Cardio Barre because the class moves so quickly.. Laura is also great because she's also very hands on and has such a positive energy to her. Marita's Saturday classes tend to get pretty full and she's such a doll - so funny and bubbly. I take the Intro classes on Saturdays because I need a slower pace after Friday nights and it also gives me chance to work on my technique and form instead of worrying about trying to keep up. The key is consistency - I was able to get through class without stopping (that s the goal!) after a week into it, but trust me, it still takes every ounce of strength not to! I was traveling for a couple of weeks and came back and it felt like my very first day all over again! They use very light weights (1-3 lbs), but when you're doing 100 reps, they feel like a ton! You will do ab work which will burn so good! Bring a towel (but don't worry if you don't, they sell towels and gear there) and don't forget the water! Overall, this is a good place to workout, plus it's so close to home and I do enjoy coming here for an hour of ME time every day. If you do not like repetition, this probably isn't for you as it's essentially the same workout every time (but for some reason never gets easier!). Definitely give the Groupon a try if you're interested. It's a great deal, considering the cost to purchase classes. read more

It is sad to me that people who have only taken one or two CB classes feel the need to post about how crowded the classes and/or how rude the staff is. The classes are crowded because it's one of the BEST workouts in town and the instructors are amazing, supportive and instructive during class. As for the staff being rude I couldn't disagree more. They are friendly, helpful, and after you start going regularly they greet you by name. If you want an amazing workout in a class that is pulsing with energy then this is the class for you - but if you want to be mollycoddled, and privately instructed in a class that's full to the brim with OTHER people then this is NOT the place for you. I was looking for new classes to try out and one day came across a Groupon for Cardio Barre, great deal - 10 classes fro $39 (single calss at Studio City place is $17). This place will kick your butt, literally. I've taken a couple of beginner classes so far with Richard on Sunday and it's a great workout for your whole body, but especially the lower part. What amazes me is how efficient this place is. They get 60-65 people in and out of the room in 2-3 min, classes run back to back, so there is no break to set up. The first time I went there, Richard had to stop the calss, because 4 people didn't check in and the room was over capacity (65 ppl). I really liked that they didn't try to jam people in, they really stick to 65 people limit. And both times I went, the class was full. So get there early, especially if it's your first time and grab your spot at a bar as soon as the class before you has ended. You will need a large towel for the last 15 minutes of the class for some exercises on the floor. Enjoy, your butt will thank you!:) read more

My favorite workout! It took me a long time to find a workout that was right for me, and after all this time, I finally found it. Cardio Barre is a perfect mix of cardio, yoga, pilates, light weights, and targeted exercises. It is definitely the best hour I spend on myself. The studio is clean & the instructors are amazing. OK, if there was a 4.5 rating that would be a more accurate representation but since Jessica teaches here she bumps it up to a 5. Biggest studio I have been too, there is a location I go to sometimes near my office in Woodland Hills but it's tiny. The only problem with this location is parking lot can be nuts sometimes.
