Fantastic workouts with upbeat coaches and music to keep you motivated. If you are looking for a boxing gym that is focused on movement and excellence, and surrounding yourself with genuinely nice people, then this place is for you. Good for beginners and experts alike. For beginners, they will teach you the moves before class so that you aren't lost once class starts. They have free lockers, water station, and showers. Everything is nice and clean. The classes run from 45 - 60 min, and it goes by fast. There's never a class where I leave without sweat dripping down my back. Gross, I know. But feels so good. :) You can download their app and reserve a bag ahead of class, which is cool. They also have wrap for purchase and gloves for rent/purchase. They are located in the Sherman Oaks Westfield Mall on the Bloomingdales side, so plenty of parking in the lots. read more

One star for the process of cancelling my membership. I just don't vibe with the workout style anymore so I'm trying to cancel it within the 30 days. Been sending emails since Saturday and barely got a response today that they would forward my request to the manager. I've emailed THREE SEPARATE emails so far: I honestly don't trust they will get back to me in time for their 30 days written notice cancellation policy (plus you need to fill out a required form that they don't readily provide in any of their faqs/contact us, etc. Very dissatisfied with this lack of interaction, they were very prompt upon me wanting to sign up but the lack of urgency is not a vibe. read more

A lot of good reviews for this place. Mostly 5 stars. After doing a $20 trial session I want to write a review based on what i saw. Yeah unlike other martial arts places, no free trial, just a reduced free session where you also get free 180mm boxing wraps and you can borrow their gloves. I come from another place that does kickboxing so I had my own gloves and wraps, that place was closed for Easter and I saw ads for this place in my social media feed. Decided to do it to get my boxing in. My other venue is only boxing on Sunday's anyway. So you go in and get acquainted if it's your first time. There is a pad at the front you use to check in. Plenty of lockers and a place to shower if you want. This is place seems very clean and uses modern tech. Now for the actual session. Room is dark with neon lights. Not an issue unless your photo sensitive. I grabbed bag #2 which is next to a speaker which leads to the first problem I have here. This place is loud, and I mean, LOUD! It did hurt my ears and I noticed my ears were ringing when I got home. I noticed during boxing one of the girls near me had ear plugs in, that's how loud it was. Another girl I spoke to after session agrees it's really loud and it's a bit of a problem. So management might want to consider changing this. You go to your pre-determined boxing bag and there is also a towel and some light weights. The weights are used for a shadowboxing portion, this is cited out in the world as an exercise to increase punching power, grabbing weights of 10 lbs or less and practice punching, in this case it was 2 lbs. I don't do that at my other venue so this was cool. Here there is a greater focus on calisthenics. They do that at every boxing place but here it seems more emphasized. No burpees here but lots of lower body and core exercises. Lunges, squats, leg raises, flutter kicks. Now for the real reason why we are here, to go heavy on the bag. Which is another thing I have issue with. Coming in you will see on the monitors in the lobby and in the actual training are the "combo of the day". All the punching centers on this combo and building up to it. Today it was 1,1,2,3,6,5,4. So you start doing 1,1,2 or even just jabs to start and adding more to it leading up to 4. All to the beats of the instructor, who today was Omar, who was cool. There were moments where you also go jab-cross-jab-cross or alternating uppercuts or alternating hooks quickly. There were also times where you practice slipping back and forth and, I think, weaving too. This is a BoxUnion Signature class which is their most common class. I can't say I'm a fan of focusing on just one combo. Or one alternating set of opposite punches or slips. Sure the essence of boxing is here with punches and slips, but it doesn't feel taught in a way that can give you fighting skills. I don't know how much the instructor will teach fighting skills. The instructor here didn't correct me on anything except maybe to go a little lighter since my bad was swinging a lot. I saw the instructor correct a couple of people on things. But I don't know how many people will be sure to do things like recall their punch quickly and bring the hand back to their face to protect themselves. The whole thing felt like more a Disneyland attraction than a serious boxing session. We actually started the session with pretending to jump rope, not jumping rope for real. Also told my the instructor to give props to the boxer next to me. I can see how some people would enjoy it. If you all you care about is exercise then yeah I guess this place can work. But I don't think you should come here if you're any kind of serious martial artist and want to enhance your fighting skills. Looking at the schedule of sessions there doesn't seem to be any sparring and I highly doubt they do fight nights. This is not a fight gym. A couple of funny notes, coming in the places vibe made me think of Globogym from the movie Dodgeball. At the end I guess it's an accurate comparison, they make money and can afford to spend more on advertisement and nice amenities, they really try to swarm you with deals at the end. I also broke the bag during my workout. These bags are apparently filled with water or some kind of liquid and I noticed a puddle forming under my bag that wasn't my sweat. Omar was okay with it though when I told him, I think he ever joked it showed I put effort into my strikes. read more

I love this workout. They push you to do more and better. Clean facilities. It's a group workout so you get the benefits of group power, the excellent instructors and pump up music really pushes you to go harder. I like that I can box & punch much better now. It's a real stress relief to punch a bag unlike doing yoga or lifting weights. It's therapeutic to punch and imagine you're beating your problems. I have lost a lot of weight so far. read more

I started coming here in Aug and absolutely love it. I do a lot of group fitness classes at a bunch of different studios in LA and I can honestly say for me it's usually the instructors that make or break a place. Thankfully Box Union has a lot of great ones. Rico and Celina in particular are my personal favorites mainly because I feel like they hold me to a higher standard never letting me slack off and always pushing me to challenge myself even more since I take them so often. That said the rest of the instructors are just as amazing and I would recommend any of them to a first timer coming in. But as much as I love the instructors I think what keeps bringing me back and signing up for more classes is the hype crew at the front desk. Nanyamka, Shanairah and Matty from the very first class I came to as well as every class since then serve up an insane energy. I could be walking in sluggish and tired and they will have me hyped up and ready to go before I even step into the boxing room, Calling (sometimes yelling) my name as I walk thur the door, asking me 'are you ready', and always just making me feel well taken care of. But the hype doesn't stop, even after class they are right there asking me once again 'how are you feeling' and offering up high fives or a congratulatory dance moves asking me when am I coming back to see them. They say the first step of any fitness goal is simply showing up for yourself, which is true, but I think what keeps me motivated in the process is when other people show up with you and that's what Box Union does. There ability to show up for their members and bring such a positive atmosphere and vibe is why I will continue coming here. Finally I would highly recommend taking a Title 45 class as it helped me to learn all the moves and improved the work I was doing in their signature boxing to the beat classes. read more

I totally understand there's a lot of people on weekends, but when the floor is still sopping wet, the mirrors are dirty, the bags are dripping with no towels- its GROSS. Small space, but it's very clean and efficient. They have nice shower stalls and lockers. When there's a lot of people in the class, it gets pretty tight, but still manageable. Shout out to all the front desk staffs. They are very friendly and helpful. I tried three different classes here so far, some combining boxing with Pilates/lifting, and they were all very fun. Celina, in particular, is a fantastic instructor and she leaves me with a really great impression. I love how she keeps the energy going during classes. Been coming to boxunion for months now. I go to 2 locations ( Robertson and Sherman oaks) the whole front staff here at Sherman oaks (Shanairah, Matty) are professional and nice. The management staff ( Nanyanka and James) are professional and friendly as well.. They always have towels ready for you when you want to take a shower and don't have to always ask for it. Whenever I come here I always take Ricos class. He always encourages and pushes you to do your best! The best place to get your boxing workout on! Music is upbeat and feels like a party with the mood lights. The staff is all incredible! Front desk is always so nice and helpful. My fav instructors are Prince and Rico. They have amazing energy that makes the class fun and go by so fast. Prince always leaves us with life gems that go beyond the bag. The class structure helps you learn the combo and the technique and you also get an amazing full body workout. They have free lockers, water and showers on site. The studio manager Nanyamka and sales associate Matty are so sweet, approachable and makes you feel at home. Every time you walk in it feels like you're waking the red carpet how they're both cheering and hyping you up. Shanairah and James are friendly as well and always answers and helps as much as they can. The front desk are actually happy to be there and full of positive energy. I go back and forth between the Robertson location and Sherman Oaks, but hands down this studio takes the cake. First off, they know you by your name and greets you every time. And the coaches Celina, Mo, and Rico are just different and insane in the membrane. I am typing this on behalf of my daughter. I totally agree with Janine below about when it is time to cancel. My daughter LOVED this gym, and RICO was her favorite coach. However, her traveling schedule picked up, so she started missing classes and decided to cancel. The rep told her, oh, we can just freeze your account for $25 dollars. We did that, and then, when it was evident she couldn't continue, she sent an email to cancel. The following month, she was charged again, and again. So, she just called, and another representative said they didn't get the email. So, she forwarded her the email that she originally sent. However, the rep on the phone explained the cancellation policy a little differently than the first rep explained. So, she has to pay for another month just to cancel, and she won't even be in town. This is definitely a learning lesson to completely ready the policy when signing up. But this is the craziest thing I have ever seen before. We have been trying to cancel since September. Like, seriously, people????? My daughter usually has a personal trainer. This was her first time joining a gym. She chose this one over orange theory. What a BIG mistake. read more

I was excited to try out box union, as I love boxing and group classes. But wow..they made it impossible. Here's why: 1. I tried to sign up online and the website was WAY confusing. 2. So I tried to call and their number wasn't working. A friend tried as well, and she couldn't get through either. 3. I finally was able to sign up online and the class was $30. Pricey but worth it IF the class was good. 4. My friend who came with me last minute was $20, and when I asked why I was charged $30, they said "oh it because you signed up online". But the number didnt work so I couldn't call! 5. They didnt even think to credit me the extra $10. 6. The girl at the front desk was condescending and rude. 7. Though I did like the instructor, the class just wasn't challenging. The pacing was too slow for me. The two stars is for the instructor, who was very nice and a great leader. But no..box union is absolutely NOT worth $30. read more

I'm been coming here for a little over six months now and taken over 100 classes... and who would've thought I would fall in love with boxing???? The minute I first stepped into the studio... I was immediately welcomed by the front desk and felt their positive immaculate energy!!! Sales associates, Shanairah and Matty, are so sweet... and James, the assistant manager, is always so pleasant and accommodating every time. And Nanyanka, the studio manager, is the Best!!! She always greets me with a smile and aura of positive vibes!! One time, I forgot my wrap at home and instead of making me purchase a wrap... she gave me hers to use. She is so sweet!!! I also attend the other studio in WeHo, and it's the total opposite there. The front desk doesn't know my name and always gets me confused with my sisters' names... even though I've been attending for over six months. They even forgot to check me in and charged me as No Show when in fact I attended the class. Luckily, I was refunded after I called... but left a sour taste in my mouth from that experience. If only they can learn and take notes from this Sherman Oaks location. If I had a choice, I would mainly attend this studio, but the three coaches I like teaches there. My main coaches here are Rico and Celina, and they're an A team!!!! read more
