My granddaughters and I had a wonder day! The grounds are beautiful! The girls enjoyed the horseback ride the most! We visited on July 1, 2026 - easily the hottest day of the year so far and had problems navigating to the different areas. The map provided was not representative of the park layout, and we almost missed the horseback ride because we got turned around. It would be helpful if the map included a compass rose! read more

Love that Kentucky Horse Park is pet friendly. The only area that pets are not allowed to go in is the museum but all other areas were fine. This is a beautiful area of Kentucky. I met a lovely man named Dave in the champion horse barn. He was fantastic, and took the time to tell me a bit of horse history. He even brought one of the retired champions up to the stall door so that my dog could get familiar with horses. Meeting Dave made my entire trip that even more memorable. We got to stop and watch some of the horse events going on. I loved watching the horses competing in the jump course. This is a large park and there is a lot to take your time and see. They have a nice gift shop. There is a food hall too but I didn't try it during this trip. It is $28 to get in, but is worth it and you can get in the next day for free. I am glad I had the opportunity to stop and see the park. read more

For the most part everything was very nice. First and foremost the horses are well fed and cared for and we were assured more than once that they spend more time in the fields than in the barns. We caught a few presentations and did the $30 horseback ride. The presentations are brief and interesting and they end with time to get to the next one, but there is a lot of walking. The museum was very well done and easy to navigate. While you are allowed to bring your own food, the cafe food is decent and reasonably priced. We had 2 sandwiches, fries and a drink for $24. The pulled pork was tasty and a decent sized portion. My only complaint is that at the horseback ride I had to stash my purse in a plastic box outside in full sun. I had just bought chocolates at the gift shop and I asked if my bag could be stored in the building for that reason and was told no. Of course my chocolates were melted when I got my bag back. The riding tour is a very slow walk around a few fields. It was pretty but probably more interesting for kids. read more

If you like horses, definitely check this place out! They have several retired race horses, including some big winners. They also have a bunch of draft horses and you can pet most of them. There is also a kids' barn with a lot of interaction things to do, as well as a pretty good playground. We had a great time at the Kentucky Horse Park! My toddler rode a pony for the first time and absolutely LOVED it. Happened across this place randomly on trip to Lexington a few years ago. In the moment my friend and I were just trying to pass a few hours, but we ended up really loving it and having the best time. First off, the park is stunning! Gorgeous landscape, luscious green grass and white picket fencing as far as you can see. They clearly treat the horses like royalty and all humans and animals we encountered were very happy. On the day after Thanksgiving (November 24), my wife and I took our Grandson to the Kentucky Horse Park. We wanted him to see the horses. He enjoyed petting the cats. He liked it so much that my wife wanted us to come back for the Southern Lights show. The light show drive was nice. The real fun was the animals. My grandson enjoyed a camel ride. We're on a long road trip, and knew that we HAD TO do something related to horses while in the Lexington area. We usually live in a rural area of Virginia, but we're not generally exposed to horses so this would be our opportunity to learn and to come into closer proximity to these magnificent creatures. We arrived on a Sunday around noon in late April. Ticket prices were $16 (adult) and $14 (senior, 62+). Their website said that parking would be $6 but we were never charged that fee. These were their spring prices; they are higher effective May 1. Park is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. We arrived with a ton of other cars but the park itself was relatively uncrowded. It's possible that there was an equine competition going on elsewhere on the premises. Some of the features of the park include: 1. Two Museums to explore equine history. 2. Horseback trail rides suitable for first-timers. 30-minute guided trail rides at designated times. Extra $30 per rider). Also, pony rides for ages 2-12. ($6 for 3 times around the paddock. Designated times). 3. A daily schedule of short shows. (5 shows, at 10 am. 11, 1, 2, and 3). 4. The opportunity to visit various barns, including the big barn, the kids barn, mounted police barn, and more. 5. Equine sculpture walk, which features equine sculptures from artists around the world which are scattered throughout the grounds of the park. Despite all of these features, my husband and I left the park feeling that we had actually seen very few live horses. We visited all of the barns -- and found that the majority of the stalls were empty. Where there were horses, they were hard to see and/or photograph because they were behind bars or sleeping. The 2 pm "Draft Horse Meet & Greet", billed as an opportunity "to meet the largest horses of the park" featured only one horse. The presenter spent much time talking about the heights of different breeds but it was hard to visualize without being able to visualize the breeds side-by-side. An outdoor field had only two horses within its fences. No Mounted Police were in the Mounted Police Barn. We do not recommend the experience at its current price point. read more

What an amazing after Christmas day! We took our son and his girlfriend as a day trip to and we were not disappointed. Arrived about ten o'clock. Toured the American saddlebred museum first. This museum is definitely geared toward a target audience. Lots of pictures and awards displayed. Wonderful celebration of this incredible breed of horse. Next we went to the Police Barn where we met horses McKenzie and Oliver and their respective human partners. I don't ever use officer's names in public forums, but both officers were very engaging and enjoyable to talk to. One of them had actually been at ground zero during the immediate aftermath of 9-11. It was an honor to meet her. After taking some pictures, we meandered over to the mini barn and met some delightful miniature horses. From there we toured the Museum of the Horse. This is definitely a go to destination for any horse lover. Amazing collection of horse relative memorabilia and equine folklore. The museum was clean, had a nice flow to it and was quiet and engaging. The Calumet horse racing, trophy cup collection is housed here, truly a Kentucky treasure. After we finished at the museum, we made our way over to the Visitor's center where there is an ample gift shop to pick up souvenirs for the trip! After that we visited the monument in Secretariat's honor and the grave of Man O' War, two horse racing legends. Restrooms in both museums were extremely clean. Parking was ample. Follow appropriate signage on the grounds to direct your party along the way. The cost is $14 a person, which for all we got, I feel is reasonable. We never made it to the hall of champions or the main barn. One note to those who have walking issues, there is a lot of walking to be done. A motorized wheelchair or scooter would be recommended for anyone who cannot walk more than short distances. During the summer months, the venue has all kinds of events on the schedule. This is definitely a Kentucky treasure and a place well worth visiting more than once! read more

Overall an enjoyable visit. Close to downtown Lexington, parking is $10 and tix are around $15-$20 depending on age. You can book tickets in advance but not the horse rides; those must be bought day of. Plan on arranging those first if you want to do them (they are extra $) because the convenient times fill up quick. They have shows twice a day (free); I do recommend trying to catch one of those. Be aware that after the afternoon show, most of the horses are moved from the stables to the pastures so they're not as accessible, so maybe morning is a better time to visit. They also have some museums, a police horse exhibit and a playground. If visiting with children, plan for 2-3 hours, plus horse rides and eating. We did not eat here; they do have a cafeteria, and plenty of areas to bring a picnic. It is pretty outdoorsy, so probably not a good choice for inclement weather. read more

So much fun!!!! Please do yourself a favor, go to the shows and GO HORSEBACK RIDING. For 25$, you ride for about a mile and a half in a group. Each horse is chosen for you, depending on your size and experience. You're taught basic commands and the horses are well trained. They follow each other in a line and they don't stray. I don't have any experience riding and was really nervous, but had so much fun. The shows are great, and petting at the end is encouraged. I loved learning about each breed and getting to know the horses personalities. The museum is amazing too, you learn so much about jockeys and the history of racing. Totally worth it. read more

Great place to visit and fun for the whole family. I have been numerous times over the years, but this review is mostly based on my last trip during COVID times. They are currently open Wed through Sunday. Masks are required while indoors and visitors and staff were very respectful of those rules. They have a discounted entrance fee of $12 for adults. There is also a $5 parking fee. The entrance fee does get you in the next day if you keep your receipt. The museum exhibits are well done, informative, and clean. They close them one hour each day to do a thorough clean. We did go around this time so had to rush through unfortunately. Definitely keep in mind the three shows that they are offering. These are the only events going on at this time so you don't want to miss it. They have three shows, Breeds Barn, Big Barn, and Hall of Champions. They were all great, but definitely don't miss the Champions show. The guides were excellent and shared some very interesting history. The groups were small so it was nice to get up close without massive crowds. Check their website for the most up to date info. The only barn that was open for viewing was the Big Barn which was a little disappointing, but understandable. Overall, even though there was a lot less going on at the park due to COVID, it was still well worth the trip. It's very peaceful, especially during the weekday when there are fewer visitors. read more

I've visited this place multiple times over the last three decades, and I still love it. The people here love horses, and they'll share all of their love and knowledge with you freely. The grounds are sprawling and there are many arenas here where world equestrian events are held (check the schedule, many are open to the public). Tons of open fields where horses graze and beautiful statues and monuments. As many mention, there are a couple of museums on campus--one is the International Museum of the Horse, which covers horses from their beginning until present, in addition to showing how the horse has evolved in agriculture and racing. There are many artifacts from other cultures. There are a couple of different shows that allow you to learn about and see the breeds in action. There is also a Hall of Champions, where you can meet derby winners and other famous equestrian winners. There are several famous horses buried on the grounds, including Man O' War, who has the rare honor of being buried in his entirety (most racehorses are buried as head, heart, and hooves only). Right now the park is open Wednesday through Sunday. I actually went on a Tuesday, as the park still keeps their grounds open on those days (no shows or cafes). I wandered in solitude to view the scenery and had a nice, quiet walk. I will return on an open day to check some shows and to support them with ticket sales. During COVID there are masks rules and social distancing protocols. Oh, and tickets are only like 12 bucks and some change, so budget friendly. And unless something has changed, that ticket will get you in free the next day. read more

Gigantic rip off. We paid $190 for a family of four to spend a few hours here (that price was WITH a military discount!). Paid a ton of money to just walk around and look at a few horses and walk through one of the more boring and underwhelming museums I've ever seen. The only bright point was our trail ride, but even that was disappointing - tons of trash and empty beer cans the entire way. I unfortunately called this place after hours right before the sun was completely down. I don't think I got the traditional experience, however I did walk around the property. I got to see some of the Hall of Fame horses relatively close, got to see the stables up close where they held some of the horses and learn some history about the sport. This property was massive and seemed to be very well-kept. I don't know too much about it, but it was pretty fascinating and I would absolutely love to come back another time during the day and get more of the traditional experience. If you're looking for a unique experience I think this is definitely a good place to go if you're not from Kentucky. Traveling with our 5 year old and 16 month old. They loved it! Our 5 year old got to ride the pony(ages 3-6) it was a great first experience for her ! This time of year, it was absolutely breathtaking! The colors of the trees and the nice autumn breeze. Not crowded at all! The only thing that we didn't get to do was the trolly ride. The line for the ride was fairly long and not many seats. However, if that is something you would like to do I suggest getting in line early. This was not a issue for us though. We love taking our kids cool places that are fun however also educational. I believed the museum was very historical and informative! We highly enjoyed our time here! read more

I'm not a horse person at all, but that fact didn't keep me from enjoying a visit to KHP. Every employee we encountered here was welcoming, helpful and friendly. It made our time here even more pleasant. I liked the budget pricing (we visited in October during Covid and tickets were discounted) and the fact that kids 5 and under were free. It was a fairly short visit, but we were still able to get up close and personal with the draught horses and tour their barn after. We also got to meet Go for Gin, the oldest living Kentucky Derby winner, as his handler told his story outside the Hall of Champions. On the opposite side of the park, our 3 and 5 year old kiddos joyfully rode the ponies Scout and Gizmo. We made a brief walk-through of the gift shop and took advantage of restrooms in the welcome center before hitting the road again as we travelled from TN to MI. read more

This horse park is a lot larger than we anticipated. The museum is very large so don't be deceived. It starts out with some of the history of horse evolution, how horses were used throughout history, the history of horses as they related to war, the history of horse racing and a plethora of information of the different famous horses throughout history along with a lot of information on the different breeds. You could easily spend an entire day here if not more if you wanted to read all of the different signage. We went actually went through at a moderate pace. My favorite was the last section which was Arabian horses. From there we went to visit some of the different barns. The mounted police barn had a couple of different horses that we were able to pet and take pictures of. The champions barn had several horses that were prize winners along with several of their famous horses buried outside in the entry way. The gift shop was nice and had reasonably priced merchandise, along with some Kentucky staple snacks/drinks. The weather was great and it's a nice place to walk around. read more

I love coming here during the summer! My son and I look forward to Monday nights when we can visit the horse park [FOR FREE] to see the horses, eat some gelato (there is usually a food truck and Spotz has been here a few times), listen to music (there is usually someone playing guitar), and play at the park. Don't be intimidated by "Run/Walk" in the title. You can definitely walk slowly and not walk around the entire path. We can't last long enough to walk an entire path unless we have a stroller, which still takes awhile because the child wants to get in and out and push it and walk and be carried and oh my goodness. Part of the walk is paved and part of it is graveled, so be prepared for that. We tend to get here around 5pm when there aren't a lot of people yet. Most of the runners/walkers arrive around 6p or 7p, probably when it's a bit cooler/after work. The only downside, which has nothing to do with the park, is the ridiculously hot weather in the summer. Sometimes it makes the walks a bit unbearable, especially with a toddler that wants to be carried half of the time. But yeah. If you need some motivation to get up and get your steps in while taking in some beautiful scenery, check this out!! Every Monday in the summer from 5-8pm! So me and my family thought it was a good idea to visit this horse park to learn more about riding horses. The experience was really good but there was this gentlemen working at the park. His name was Ricardo Delerosa he was sitting in a golf cart and when I asked him where the bathrooms were and he acted very annoyed and told me he was on lunch break and to ask someone else. I wasn't trying to disturb him while on break I just wanted to know where the bathroom was. read more

Everyone loves the Kentucky Horse Park. It is a beautiful place and plenty of parking. There are museums, educational films, exhibits, a gift shop, and the Calumet Farm horse racing trophies. The parade of horse breeds is wonderful and changes the presentation with different horses and rider's costumes 3 times per day. The horse Park generally has about 50 of about 126 breeds of horses on the planet and some are previous award winners. The parade of champions, 3 times per day is great. Grooms present retired race horses, a saddlebred champion and show videos of their past performances, etc. There are horses everywhere and quite often there is a real horse show going on which could be a 3 day event, hunter jumper show, Arabian show, saddlebred show, etc. Great place, beautiful and everyone loves it. read more
