Wedge Salad
Lee Ann P.

I made a reservation for my family to try this spot on my birthday. It is a little hole in the wall Italian place, it has a cute patio but could use a little updating inside. Our waitress was super sweet and patient with my big family. We started with some wine and cocktails and the arancini, meatball and calamari. The arancini was really good but the meatball was not great, it had no flavor and their marinara was too sweet for me. Their entrees all come with a salad which I love and I upgraded to the wedge which was delicious. For my meal I got the gnocchi which was super tasty. I'd say that most people really enjoyed their meals (the scallop pasta was not a hit). Dessert is really where they shine, we tried the cannoli which was top notch and the chifeletti which was also unique and delicious. It was a fun little place to try but with so many options in Columbus I don't think I'll be back

Manhattan clam chowder

First time here and probably not going back. The menu posted outside had different prices than the menu which was given to us at the table, however didn't realize that until the bill came. Anyway, I ordered the soup of the day which was Manhattan clam chowder (bowl) which actually was very tasty! Then I ordered a wedge salad which in my opinion, had way too much dressing on it and wasn't huge like other establishments! The bread was good that was served.

I was looking for an Italian restaurant that was NOT Olive Garden. Mom loves OG and I hate it as I only get salads and OG has no salad option. Yes, I know they have the endless soup, salad, breadsticks. But all I want is a decent salad and not one drowning in OG dressing. Mom loves the tour of Italy - essentially the lasagna. So I was looking in Westerville as she also wanted to drive thru Otterbein as she had been on the campus 65 years + ago. As luck had it, I found Cardone's on Yelp. I peaked at the menu and it looked fine. A little pricier than I had hoped but I also think I need to get used to higher restaurant prices. We did not have reservations and the waiter that greeted looked down his nose at us as a result. Sorry - never been here before so I didn't know that all the cool people make reservations. Fortunately, they had a couple open tables for "people like us" - as well as outdoor seating. Nevermind that they had PLENTY of other empty tables that were not filled while we were there. In fact, not many people came to eat in while we were there, I think every single person walking in the door was picking up carry out. But back to our meal - we were seated in one of the 2 tables for non-reservation people and were lucky enough to have David as our server. He did not look down his nose at us and didn't make us feel bad for only getting water and a diet cola for drinks. Neither Mom nor I drink alcohol and she doesn't even do tea or soda. She's strictly a water girl. I had to help Mom with the menu as she wasn't sure what bolognase sause was. She wanted the lasagna but has a very bland palate and avoids all spicy dishes. So she was good with the lasagna and side salad. I, on the other hand, was happy to pick from several salads and add a protein. I went with the Cardone's salad ever though I don't normally like fruit with my greens. I added chicken and we were set. David brought us a basket of warm bread which was absolutely delicious! I usually don't do carbs but I hadn't eaten all day and just had to try and piece in the olive oil. I love the heals and this one did not disappoint. In fact, I may have also eaten the other heal in the basket. But I'm not owning it. Meals arrived in good time. Mom's lasagna came in a nice square bowl. She absolutely LOVED it, eating more despite being full and saying she was done. As a follow up - she took some home in a doggie bag and it was just as delicious on reheat for lunch the following day. My salad was also superb. The perfect size and built in a lovely bed of greens. The fruit choice was just perfect and complimented the grilled chicken and vinaigrette that came with it. I ate and enjoyed every bite. So I was vindicated for taking us to an Italian restaurant that was not OG as the lasagna was likely better than her usual favorite with the tour of italy. Will I be back? Not sure. Hubby works up this way and I'll mention it for future consideration. Final thanks to David for making great suggestions and being so friendly and helpful.

Stuffed Shells

This was our first time visiting this upscale Italian restaurant. Our party of five came on a Friday night, and we didn't have a reservation. However, it's a good idea to do so because the restaurant was quickly filled up after we arrived. All entrees are served with a House Salad. Their bread didn't look appetizing, but don't let that fool you. The taste and texture was amazing! The Stuffed Shells (large pasta shells stuffed with beef, pork, cheese, and herbs, baked with marinara) was a hit. The Chicken Parmesan (breaded chicken breast topped with marinara and fresh mozzarella, served with spaghetti) was also good. There is a section called Pizzas & Flatbreads, meaning you have a choice to have it made your way. I ordered the Pepperoni & Four Cheese (Pepperoni and tomato sauce with mozzarella, parmesan, gorgonzola, and pecorino cheeses) as a pizza. Be aware, this is not a Pepperoni pizza for a ten-year old. That is, unless they like gorgonzola. I should have read the fine print, because I wasn't expecting the gorgonzola, which is my kryptonite. My whole body weakened, and I could only manage to eat a couple of small pieces. So, if you really, really don't like gorgonzola (like me) maybe you could ask for a substitution of cheeses. Now, I always like to try an authentic Italian cannoli, and theirs is the real deal. Two good-sized cannoli come filled with cream and chocolate chips, and drizzled with more chocolate. The presentation was spectacular! Will I come again? Yes. The ambiance is tasteful, calm and serene, and there is outdoor dining as well.

The scallop fresco was very good. The service was good and friendly. Unfortunately that's where the good stops. There were gnats in the bathroom and by the end of the night they were surrounding the bar area. The veal was chewy and didn't have good flavor. The fri glass of moscato was flat, I asked for another and they kindly opened a new bottle and poured from it. That glass was good.

Adorable little place .. the house red wine is delightful .. bar tender is amazing .. love the spaghetti and meatballs and the lasagna . The star is the lemoncello flute. They also have seafood chef specials which are also delicious . Cheese bread with garlic and dipping oil is served warm . Highly recommend Cardones

From the time we walked in the door, a gentleman in the kitchen looked up and said greeted us. (There's a door so you can see into the kitchen from the foyer) I later learned it was Dave Pasqualone himself. We were promptly shown to our table and within a few minutes, a gentleman by the name of Chris introduced himself and told us what the specials for the evening were. Everything sounded great but my girlfriend picked the saccettini with the amatriciana sauce and I had the veal scalopini with a small side of saccettini. The meal was PERFECT! You could taste richness of the homemade saccettini stuffed with cheese. I was told that the pasta for the lasagna noodles are made on site which is used for the saccettini. The veal scallopini was so tender, I could cut it with a fork. Not too many capers, the right combination of butter, white wine and lemon. My girlfriend's amatriciana sauce (she was kind enough to give me a taste of two) had a little bit of a bite to it but not too much. It was mouth watering. We finished off the evening with a homemade cannoli which was superb. Towards the end of the evening, Dave came out into the dining room and personally greeted each table. We learned that Dave was the head chef at Monaco's Palace on Cleveland Ave many years ago. They always had wonderful food. To find this gem of a restaurant in Northeast Columbus, in a part of town where many restaurants come and go each month or year, is like finding a needle in a haystack. SEVEN WORDS: Good, Mid-Level Italian / Gulf Shores Atmosphere / Bocce!…read more. Yes, I said "Gulf-Shores Atmosphere. This Mid-Size Family Restaurant and Pizza Pub offers an atmosphere that I*mmediately reminds me of Pensacola Beach near the Pier, St. Augstine Beachside, and some Carolina Family Resorts - although it's located in a staid, suburban location. . It did help that the weather was like being beachside on a Mach afternoon - just above 60 degrees with a light 3-5 mph wind. The Sun was out, the Cafe lights at the Bar just came on, and the Monday Night Bocce League was chucking wooden balls from one end of the arean to the other, all the while, gentle, non-sensical conversations were filling the air. 1970s Classic Rock softly filled the background noise. . But, we only came for Food - and always love a new place to eat. Since it was our first time, we ordered a Calamari Appetizer and two Standard Italian Entrees: I grabbed the Baked Ziti while my wife ordered the Fried Fish. . She's a little spoiled, being a Filipino: She is not a fan of Fish Sticks of Any kind - even if they were upscale and tasted fresh, as these did. So, we switched plates. .. I really enjoyed the Fish Fillets. The White Fish ?Cod? was fresh and not pasty, the breading was not cumbersome in any way, the oil was fresh - probably Vegetable - and I devoured it. It was quite a bit above average for Fried Fish, without being top-tier, like you'd find at a Lakeside Popup Stand at Buckeye Lake. The Fries were good, mild salt and still had slivers of skin on the fries. I still think they were pre-packaged, but they were done better than you'd ever manage at home, without going to extra measures. . My Wife's Ziti was very Good, too. It was more than she could eat - she was partially full before we sat down and the Soda + Calamari nearly filled her tummy. That was fine, we doggie bagged it and shared my fries and watched Bocce for about an hour. That was quite a bit of Fun - Especially on a Monday Night - without being loud and obnoxious - just pleasant, like enjoying GenXers and Boomers throw Wooden Balls back and forth and cheering casually and sharing company. . Our total Bill: Two Sodas, Calamari, Baked Ziti, Fish Fillet, came to a Total of $56. Somewhat Reasonable and we had leftovers (The Baked Ziti), which I devoured two days later. It was so much better after resting in the Fridge: like Fine Italian Cuisine more than Run-of-the_Mill Homemade Ziti. . It's not the best, but it's a place WE WILL RETURN to just to try out their pizza and sit inside and soak up the ambiance. A really fine place for 4-Star Italian - WITHOUT breaking the Bank.

The Polaris location is large and has a decent patio. The bar/lounge area is pretty big too, that's where we were sat when we came in for a weekend meal. Started with drinks and some apps. The cocktails were small and kind of meh. They only had 2 drafts, Stella & Peroni. I like both but it was strange that they had no other selections. The worst part was by far the food. Arancini - 6/10, nice crispy texture but the taste was a bit unexpected, like the added a bit too much Gorgonzola. Calamari - 7/10, a bit chewy but with a nice crisp, missing something fresh. Beef carpaccio - 2/10, Marcella's used to have an absolutely delicious carpaccio... this was a bit of an abomination. Beef slices too thick, crispy flatbread that broke up when I looked at it wrong, a white sauce on top that made the whole dish worse. Absolutely do not recommend. Dinner was a few pizzas 2/10 (read: precooked flatbreads with subpar toppings). The crispy potato "pizza" needs to be taken off the menu. Garlic sauce, cheese and these awful, overcooked potato chips. It was inedible - all 5 people at the table tried it but put their slice down after the first or second bite. Pizza Margherita DOC was a very salty, tomatoey thing. I think the grocery store version would be a better choice. We also shared the Pepperoni Sausage with mushrooms which was better, but it was undercooked and watery. Our friends got the Carbonara Pasta and said it was ok, but did not want to take their leftovers home. I don't get the hype or appeal of Marcella's whatsoever.
