Carey & Walsh recently replaced the entire HVAC infrastructure in my home including old radiators, steam boilers, gas furnace, old air handlers, old condensing units, thermostats, ran new ducts and did it all in record time and with amazing quality. The guys on the ground were really nice and collaborated with me to make sure that I was happy with everything along the way. Scott was incredibly responsive and checked in personally to make sure that things were going well and made sure that I was happy with the duct placements and other decisions that had to be made along the way. Carey and Walsh replaced our furnace in 2017. We've had no AC for the past weekend. I called to inquire about a service call and have been on hold almost 3 1/2 hours. Always hearing a recording "you are caller number 1 in the queue, please hold". I also left a message before the company opened. Three and a half hours waiting...that's a record for me. read more

I've purchased two large HVAC furnaces from Carey & Walsh. We purchased a wall mounted AC/Heater that worked excellent! Great installation and performance. Couldn't ask for a better system or company to install and work with. Scott is a super nice guy and very conscientious. Because of the great results we had with the first purchase, we selected Carey & Walsh for our second Heater, a boiler system. Weil McLain. Scott and team did a great job with the installation. Went seamlessly. We also purchased two WiFi thermostats that also worked excellent. We did have a glitch with the furnace a year later but Carey and Walsh along with the oil company resolved the issue. In fact, Scott Carey called me off hours to explain the situation and help me out. I highly recommend Carey & Walsh for all your furnace & boiler needs. Carey & Walsh is the only company to choose for any HVAC issues. My parents lost heat the other day (it was extremely cold out) and the house was frigid when they woke up. I called for service at 5AM. This amazing woman (sorry, I forgot your name) called me back. They had Eric come over before 9AM to remedy the situation. Eric was simply amazing. He figured out the issue quickly, and within 15 minutes, my elderly parents had the heat back on. Eric was professional, nice, competent, efficient. I called them to check out my non-functional AC. The mechanic was very professional and knew his stuff. He let me see the readings on the manifold and also showed me that the compressor would kick off right after it started, so I knew it was bad. They were able to get a new compressor very fast and changed it about a day after I called. The two mechanics who changed the compressor were also excellent. My house is cool again and I would call them again for any hvac work. (They also charged me less than the competition for an even more efficient unit.) read more

LOOK ELSEWHERE - DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME. Previous homeowners had service agreement with C&W for annual HVAC maintenance. I set up an appointment after assuming the home hoping to keep the same relationship with them. Turns out the coils were FILTHY - with caked on muck. Air quality was horrendous. The C&W serviceman cleaned it off and then went on to the air handler in the attic. I asked him to show me the state of that one so he called me up and it was dirty though it wasn't as dirty as the first air handler, probably because it was recently replaced - maybe because it was equally as filthy previously and then broke? That's just a guess. I asked him to clean it too since I have asthmatic children. He came down a few minutes later saying he couldn't clean it because he has other jobs to get to. Mind you - I paid $150 for the first 1/2 hour of work and an additional $75 for every 1/2 hour after even though there was a annual service agreement in place coil cleaning is outside of that scope. I was paying for this extra work. But also - how did it get so disgusting when C&W were annually servicing the system for the previous homeowners? I called customer service to get a new technician here to finish the job and they said that they have a time limit (no one told me this when I was booking the appointment) and that we would have to schedule another visit and incur the same $150 for first 1/2 hour and $75 for every 1/2 hour after. I pushed back on this since the first tech didnt finish the job and they eventually agreed to work with me on that to treat it as a continuation. I asked about prices for some other things that I wanted done and was told I'd receive a quite in 1-2 hours. Did not receive quote. Called back next day and was told the same man was out to lunch and would call me back. Never called me back. Called back the next day and got a hold of him and he told me he wasnt in the past few days - which is different than what they said about him being 'out to lunch' - and that he would get me a quote in the next few hours. He never did. Called back the next business day after the weekend and he asked me to confirm my email address (which he had the correct email address) and sent me the quote right then on the spot. After 4 times of saying he would. I decided not to proceed any further with C&W and to seek out an alternative company for the annual servicing. They are unprofessional, do not follow up as they say they will, and are quite dismissive. It felt as though I had to convince them to take my business - that is never a good sign. read more

I believe that I'm the luckiest appliance owner having every single appliance including my compressor for over 25 years and everything is still running perfectly. I don't have service calls except one time about ten years ago my compressor wasn't working. I called Carey and Walsh and the nice young man saw that mice had eaten away most of the wires during the winter to keep warm. He replaced the wires and suggested I turn off the circuit breaker to the compressor during that time. It's been perfect since. I'll be calling them in the future for a full service. Called around 10am with furnace not working properly. Technician arrived at 2:30pm and solved the problem in one hour. Fixed two other issues as well, including a small gas leak. Money well spent. I do think they rushed the installation of the furnace in the first place, but they have certainly stood behind the installation and not over charged me for the follow up service. Cannot ask for much more given my experience with other heating and cooling companies in the area. read more

Total fail as a company. Came and serviced three units - one no longer cools 4 days later (and was working fine at start). The 4th they told me needed condenser replacement and would call me a day later. That was 5 days ago. Save your money, call someone reliable, who knows what their doing, and does not charge you an arm and a leg for a total fail. read more

I am adding a detail to my previous review about the horrible job Carey & Walsh did installing the York central air conditioning unit. A sloppy installation of a bad unit, and an even worse attitude towards an understandably angry customer. We found out about their failure to put a seal around the filter 2 years after installation. No apology from them. No offer to immediately put things right, no charge to us, of course, which you would expect from a reputable company. Instead we got a bill for labor, to do work which due to negligence they failed to do. It took a full 9 months of arguing to get them to remove the charge. Very tiring and no fun. I recently found a bill from Carey & Walsh, dated 9 MONTHS after they sealed the filter, still trying to extract the labor charges from us. Nine months of them insisting they were entitled to charge us to fix their own shoddy work. Additionally, they assessed a late fee!! Nine months of fighting to get them to remove a labor fee that they had no right to charge. For a company that treats its customers this way, and does such poor quality work, I am astonished that they are still in business. (They do not even deserve a 1 star rating. Minus would be more appropriate.) read more

It started with the installation of the new furnace and AC coil. They ripped out my fan wires,could not hook up the thermostat i ordered,uneven heat throughout the house,installation of new return vent not properly installed. List goes on and on. Then they came out to fix my Central Air unit which is tied in to my furnace. Charged me 189 dollars for a 25 dollar run capacitor plus labor. This company does not only not know what they are doing but they take you to the bank. This has been a nightmare for the last year and a half and the worst experience i have ever had on doing any type of work at my home. People work hard for their money only to see companies like Carey and Walsh rip you off. Be careful their prices are out of this world and on top of it they did not do the correct job. We had a technician from Carey and Walsh do a routine inspection and cleaning on our very old but reliable boiler (a gas boiler, in case it matters) today. The person I spoke to on the phone was friendly and helpful, and so was the technician. They didn't try to up sell us (it's an old unit, many tell us we should replace it just because it's old), but did suggest some work we should consider for next year to keep it running safely. They quoted me a flat rate on the phone that was very reasonable and charged me the same rate. Overall I am satisfied and felt it was an honest and fair business exchange. read more

Stay away Consumers review 2018 rated York and Rheem are the worst central AC units. Yep Carey & Walsh install these units.This company installed their Cadillac of York AC units at my home with all the bells and whistles . Well except for the first year this unit broke down five years in a row. Two years in a row being the same part which they promised that I would get a refund for the labor but never came through with the refund . This company installs these units adequately but The service department and Manager give you nothing but promises and lies. The worst!! The job was to remove humidifier. They said they had to order a part first . When they came to do the job, they installed the part and didn't remove the humidifier. When I asked, the guy said he wasn't told to do it. I said why would I need a valve then, and he said he didn't know, and that he had no idea why I would need a valve, the company didn't tell him. The manager Pete said he knows nothing about anything and that Frank, who was the first guy there, left the company. He said he'd look into it and call me. I never heard from him. Two weeks later I got a bill. So I have a bill for 120, a valve I don't need, and a humidifier still on the furnace. read more

Carey & Walsh came in the beginning of the summer to service our AC. They said everything was fine, and charged us $150. Within a month, they had to come back twice to fix things that hadn't been discovered during the servicing. We gave them a total of $600 in one month! The last service call they made, I was told that I was only being charged for the part (not labor) and that it was $185. I later found out that the actual cost for the part was $30. I would definitely NOT recommend this company. read more

Never again. Bait and switch. The tech says one thing, then they bill you for something else and tell you that the tech performed services that you were never made aware of. Dishonest, unreasonable, and unprofressional. A call to the service manager proved fruitless as he immediately was confrontational and aggressive. Based on the amount of bad reviews here, this is not uncommon practice. My father relied on them years ago, but it must be new owners or a new generation of management because they've driven this company into the ground. read more

I've used this company several times -- they installed my air conditioning systems and have repaired my heating system. I always thought they were a little pricy but, in the past, I've been happy with the quality. BUT the cost of their service can be insane. I had a technician come today to service my 4 air handlers @$145 each. I called the company to ask if I could get a discount since this came out to $600 for a few air filters and and hour's work. The answer was "No - we charge by the unit." I pointed out that this came out to over $500/hr for labor. "We don't charge for labor, we charge by the unit." I asked to speak to someone in charge and got the same answer. This kind of inflexibility can't be doing their business any good -- they've certainly lost mine. read more

This is the worst place you can go to for repairs. The technicians are not qualified at all. They can't detect any problem, all they say is change this and change that. I had a gas furnace which stopped working one day. First the technician charged me $200 to diagnose the problem and then charged $500 to replace the ignition module. Still the problem remain and I had to wiggle a wire to get the furnace started. They insisted on changing the gas valve which I let them change today morning and they charged me another $466 for that and here I am sitting in cold at night cause it's still not working. I wonder how these people get permits!!!! read more

I don't know how to start this but here it goes. It started one year ago when someone came to look at my compressor because I told them too much noise. He said not to worry. Charged me about two hundred dollars and left. A year later called again and told me it needs new fan. $800. I still have the same problem and billed me $258 for the visit. Help!! Robbery in progress. Believe me I tried to reason with the "Boss" but no issue resolved. I was told I will not be charged for the visit per the Boss word but I was. Would not recommend not even to my enemies. Not fair people and hard to talk to. This is the truth so help me God. read more

They came within an hour of the estimate, which I find acceptable - they had another job before ours, so it's hard to say EXACTLY what time they will be there. If there were 10 stars, I'd give it to them. Our furnace broke in the middle of January -- the worst time possible! We got estimates from 10+ companies but it was clear from the moment we met Rob that he was honest and knew what he was talking about based on years of experience. We never felt hustled or taken advantage of. He understood the urgency (it was freezing in January, obvi!) whereas most of the other companies were quite lax in their response to us, taking days to call back and giving us generic proposals that came with a lot of risk and high price tags. Rob was just so different: He was so thoughtful and responsive the entire time; got us a replacement as quickly as possible; *and* even found one at a discounted price. Unfortunately the install wasn't as smooth as we had hoped, but they were prompt in returning our calls and sending people to fix it, thanks to Joyce who dealt with us many times over a long weekend and snowstorm. Huge thank you to everyone at Carey and Walsh! You really saved us and we feel so relieved at having found you! I highly, highly recommend them if you want someone you can trust, and deliver beyond expectations. read more

C & W have been satisfactorily taking care of my heating and A/C for a few years. However, this winter they faultily installed one of 4 new radiators, which in turn leaked on to my brand new carpet. After trying to clean and then repair the carpet I had no choice but to replace it. C & W refused to compensate me, even though I had paid approx. $4,000 for the installation. I have no choice but to sue them - rather sad since I've a long time loyal customer. Also, rather symptomatic of C & W, they obviously don't bother to read and/or respond to these reviews, as do other companies. read more

So my furnace wasn't igniting and I needed to have someone come to fix it. I can understand the high price for a service call on a Saturday evening. What is very upsetting to me though is the markup on the part. The tech was here for 5 minutes and needed to replace the ignitor. $270 for a service call is a nice fee for 5 minutes work but then they charged me $156.00 for the ignitor which can be purchased online $15-$20. I think that is very excessive and will think twice before using this company again read more

I have had nothing but great experiences with this company. I would have no reason to write a review of a company unless I had a problem, but recently a technician who had been servicing my unit for many years told me to rate my experience. A few years ago I had an ignitor go bad in the middle of the night. I couldn't believe how fast the technician arrived and fixed the issue. I understand that some people would be appaled that there system could fail even if it had been serviced. I chose to beleive that all mechanical things can fail even if cleaned and inspected properly. I am in the mechanics trade so I understand this completely. The service industry is one of the hardest businesses to please people in and most people are easy to pull the trigger on you. Three generations of my family have used this company. I continue to stand by them and I say shame on those who don't realize the nature of mechanics and how all moving things can fail. All of my neighbors use the same company and haven't had a problem either. read more

Total rip off, they lie about the amount of time they spend in your house and they charge 3-4 times the amount of parts. When we called to ask why, we was told that's how much they charge for their parts. I don't mind paying the labor but being charged over $200 for a part that cost $60 is terrible. Our 30 year old central air conditioner did not go on July 4th. I tried to call a few companies, as I thought I would need a new unit and wanted estimates - but only Carey & Walsh answered the phone on July 5th, scheduled an appointment, called to confirm it, and arrived on time. Unfortunately I had a negative experience with one of your drivers today on my way home. Whomever was driving on Route 9 was rather aggressive and cut me off while in traffic. It was a very rainy and wet commute home, and I understand that we are all just trying to get home but the carelessness of the driver made dangerous driving conditions even worse. Please remind the team that driving recklessly while in a company van is a poor use of judgement. I am not a nervous driver, and spend about 4 hours per day commuting so I am used to traffic. As I can not attest to the quality of the services I can say that a negative experience in any way can harm a reputation. read more

I have been a customer of Carey and Walsh for over 12 years. Recently I had a problem with my furnace. The repair man who Carey and Walsh sent over made no real attempt at finding the problem. The only way to determine the issue was to use a meter to measure furnace pressure- he did't do that or anything else for that matter except to replace the blow off valve At a charge of $177.17. There was no problem with the valve and changing it was completely unnecessary. Carey and Walsh marks up the cost of any parts approximately 400%. The retail price was $26.00 at various supply stores, Carey and Walsh charged $105.00. This was a double rip off as the part was not needed and marking something up 400% is outrageous . The following day after the problem continued I called Carey and Walsh back and they sent another repairman, much to his credit, who confirmed that the problem was too much pressure in the boiler and not the blow off valve. I have since spoken with Peter at Carey and Walsh on seven occasions trying to get them to refund me the unnecessary charge. All I have gotten is the run around. First I was told they were not going to cash my check but they did., Then for 3 phone calls they were reviewing the matter. Finally when i demanded they do something they agreed to give me a partial refund. They never did. I finally called Mr Carey who did not take my call or return it. Its difficult to understand how a company of their size who does business at a local neighborhood level could be so dishonest, cheat their customers and still stay in business. Its one thing to make a mistake in diagnosing a problem its another to lie and cover it over. I hope that this review will alert other customers to Carey and Walsh's dishonest antics. PS I intend to take the time and trouble to sue them in small claims court as matter of principle. Bob read more

I have been a customer for over thirteen years and am very sorry that I have to give a poor rating to Carey and Walsh after recommending them to anyone and everyone that would listen for almost a decade! I had been happy with the technicians, and although nothing ever seemed to be fixed or installed correctly the first time, they always made sure it was handled appropriately....until recently. I had a new AC unit installed, which had not been working correctly since the install. Had one tech immediately tell me it was defective, had the supervisor at my home on a weekend....we have probably had 5 or 6 different Carey and Walsh employees look at it and give their opinion. I have been calling and leaving messages for Scott (one of the co-owners) since May, when when I finally got smart and used another HVAC company, and was told that the prior installation (which cost me thousands...and about 5 service visits) was done incorrectly!!! I had the opportunity to speak to him, and explain my situation and was waiting to see what he would do to at least repair the Carey and Walsh reputation in my eyes. Apparently....they must be very busy and not need any more business because it's now the end of September, and despite man voicemail messages, Scott still hasn't reached out to me. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. Very expensive, and not worth it! I have never minded paying for excellent service and knowledge....don't like paying top dollar for shoddy work, and NO customer service. read more

I've been using Carey & Walsh for several years. They always respond quickly and the technicians are always very nice. Recently however, the quality has been lacking. They came over this winter to fix a broken igniter on our furnace and did an excellent job with that. While there, the technician saw that our water heater tank was dripping from the relief pipe and said that it could be fixed by replacing the expansion tank. They sent another tech to install the new expansion tank and as he was walking out the door I noticed it was still leaking. He came back in a said I needed a new relief valve which he installed for an aditional charge. The next day it was leaking again. They sent another tech out for no charge who put a pressure gage on the system which showed the water pressure in the house was too high. They obviously should have done this to begin with. This tech then tried to adjust the pressure regulator in the main line which he claimed was not working and needed to be replaced confirming that was the problem. I most likely wasted the full $ on the first "fix", but after going on utube and seeing that the second tech had placed the pressure gage before the pressure regulator, I adjusted the regulator myself and the problem was fixed. I'm going to assume this was all just total incompetence, but as you can well imagine I am not happy. read more
