    Oxtail
    Kaitlin C.

We saw someone recommend this place on Facebook, so we decided to give it try for dinner tonight. The Oxtail was everyone's favorite. It was so tender - the meat fell right off the bone - and the flavors were so delicious. The jerk chicken was also tasty. I've never had jerk chicken before, so this was a great first experience. The chicken had a beautiful smokey flavor and the texture was perfect! As for the stew chicken - the flavor was there, but (not sure if it was just our serving) it was full of small bone shards which was a hassle to carefully pick out. We ordered all of the dishes in medium and they serve a generous portion with rice and cabbage on the side. Wait time was quick (~5 mins)! I will say the plantains were not good - they were dry (almost rubbery), cold, and hard which was disappointing. Overall: This is a nice diamond in the rough place to try some great flavored Caribbean food!

Born and Raised in Trelawny, Jamaica and moved to long island 3 years ago. I'm always missing that's good home cooking. Yesterday on lunch got tired of the same old place. I spent about 1 hour searching the internet up to make sure this place is authethicly Caribbean. So I felt confident that's after living here, I can finally find a spot to call "home" This place is Jamaican . They seasoned it well! Dont get me wrong My problems is : I Dont feel like it's right to pay $30 for ONE plate of curry goat and its TUFF like a well done steak. I called the store yesterday when I got back to the office to let home know it's overcooked and he's answers like and? What's you want me to do about it? Barelyl cared if the food wasnt the good or not Ahh I'll continue to drive to Brooklyn or Queens for what I want YESTERDAY WAS A HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT And he gonna ask me when I am coming back? To waste more money?!? Lmaooo never Sir ill rather that's

    Curry Chicken, Peanut Punch

Honestly, this place is legit, even down to the menu style. (If y'all frequent Queens, you know what I mean) Its a very unassuming spot off of 347, but once you spot the vibrant green shack, you can't miss it. Service right now is just drive thru (but completely welcome during the times of COVID). I ordered a small curry chicken and my elixir, peanut punch. A serving includes rice and beans, cabbage and a plantain. Now, to be fair, I've grown up on Indo-Caribbean food. So, I went into this not expecting things to taste similar to my mom's cooking. But, still, this food tastes like someone's mom's cooking and that is by no means a bad thing! Everything is perfectly seasoned, the plantain and cabbage are tender, the curry is flavorful. And the peanut punch, as always, is amazing. Smooth and sweet peanutty flavor. Do yourself a favor and get that as your drink. If you've never had authentic Caribbean food, I can only describe it as slightly similar to Indian food. But its still truly unique in its flavors. Normally you'd have to be dragged to Queens in order to sample. But now that there is a place on the island that does it right, there's no excuse. You have to try!

Freshly made food at a terrific price point. It fills your belly! - Bill S When I dine in the Caribbean Islands, I'm sitting down to a whole roasted fish in a restaurant with tablecloths. I smell the sweet salty air while sipping a glass of wine, life is good. When my son went to college in Albany, he found a local Caribbean restaurant serving home cooking meals. The owner said to him: Child, Let me warm your body with the power of the Ox. He was there all the time and telling me about the different items. Oxtail? Sounds like osso bucco to me! Both my sons have been home for Fathers Day and today we want to order some food. Sandwiches? Nah. Ramen? Nah. Burger. No! Hey, how about the new place on 112, Caribbean Flavors? Dad, you can try Oxtail! Sold! I placed the order and drove to this new take out restaurant. This is not a place where there are tables and wait staff. Place your order and pick it up. I pull up to the drive in and gave my name. I paid with my debit card and picked up my food. So far, easy peasy. My Oxtail platter had plantains, rice and cabbage covered in a rich brown gravy. Son #1 is now in the zone. Son #2 ordered a small Curry Chicken. This is a nice choice, they have platters that are sized small, medium and large. I opened my medium oxtail platter, this was a lot of food! The oxtail wasn't spicy, I found it was very flavorful. The dish works well with the plantains, a little sweet and little heat. Perfection. If you're looking for a new restaurant choice in Port Jefferson, Caribbean Flavors awaits.

Visiting a friend in the area read yelp reviews say this place is good.... may be that gives me a high expectation.... We ordered oxtail, chicken, shrimp and red snapper. They ALL are very greasy :((( Thanks God, oxtail and chicken are succulent at least. Particular the oxtails, full of Caribbean flavors! However, red snapper is a HUGE miss! Buried in loads of oil, saggy and sad:( ((( There is no way to taste fish itself. Rice bean and cabbage are light.

I did not expect such an authentic Caribbean drive-through restaurant in Port Jeff. The curry shrimp tasted close to the one that my dearly, departed West Indian parents (both from Montserrat) treated the family to on some Friday evenings. There was a heaping amount of jumbo shrimp, which came with a side of rice and peas, cabbage and plantains. I mixed the curry into the cabbage for spectacular flavor. To drink, I asked for homemade ginger beer. The owner Steve, who is Queens-raised by Jamaican parents; and his hospitable El Salvadorian-American wife, Lucy; said that that they ran out. I do not like bottled ginger beer, so instead I had the bottled "Pat's Erotics" sorrel, which was tasty. The fruitcake was good but a tad dry. Some rum would have moistened it, and I told the owner so, and he took my criticism well. If anybody is ever in Port Jeff and wants some authentic Caribbean food, try Caribbean Flavors.

I'm so glad this place opened up because there aren't many West Indian restaurants on Long Island. I drive past and have been wanting to try it because of the bright paint job--so that drew me in. Also, I love Caribbean food. Before going, I checked the rating and website so I know what to expect and how to place an order during COVID-19. It was quick and simple. Their website doesn't really work for ordering. It's okay because it's a straight forward menu. I called, and told them what I wanted and the told me to come right away. No wait time. I get to the drive-thru, tell them my name...and that was it! I love this place! A cute/small dairy barn sized drive thru with BIG flavorful food. I was so happy once I got home. I hadn't had this for a long time! I had a small jerk chicken (which comes w cabbage, rice and peas and plantain) and a spicy beef patty. It was perfect! Can't wait to try other stuff on their menu.

Food was authentic and freshly prepared while we sat outside listening to the music of the islands. The owner was very pleasant and took time to speak with us . We will definitely return to try the other food items on the menu!

I came here with a friend and ordered the salmon and he got the red snapper. The food was made fresh as we waited. We sat at the bench on the side of the store facing the carvel. The owner was very nice and made sure we was satisfied with our order. Our food came with veggies, rice and beans and plantains. My salmon was very tasty, I couldn't finish it all so I had leftovers the next day. I will be back to try the oxtails !! Enjoy!!
