Food was LITERALLY amazing!!! Highly Recommend. Servers served this plate up! And I certainly devoured it!

Lunch special with rice, Fried Chicken, and String Beans with jerk sauce

The fried chicken was delicious, the service was nice & helpful, and the menu had many options (vegetarian & meaty) and was economical. I was glad to find an authentic neighborhood spot during my brief trip to the stadium area. I brought my relatives, and we ordered a variety of meals, which, for four people, came up to around $50, which I thought was great, not to mention this food felt healthier than a lot of other stuff we could have eaten.

I wanted something local and different. Flavas was not far from Yankee Stadium and looked really good. The food is served cafeteria style. I ordered the dinner plate and got rice w/beans, cabbage and ox-tail. The food was so delicious! Portion was plentiful (I did finish it all) and staff was friendly enough. The ox-tail was so tender and full of flavor. The restaurant itself was a little warm and could use some updating, but I grew up in places like this, so no biggie. I would definitely do by if I'm in the area again. Cost was around $30 with a drink. The ox-tail was one their more expensive items.

A local recommended this place while waiting for a Yankees game. Glad we stopped by! The rice and beans+ gravy were yummy. The bbq chicken was tasty and rich. The service was average and the portions were big! Small shop with minimal seating and a quick paced feeling. Good place for a grab and go situation

The containers the food arrived in!

The food was not up to par with other locations that have this name. The macaroni and cheese was not made with love. You can tell it was slopped together. It was bland lacking of quality and seasoning. The products being used are not of high quality as well. The oxtails had too much fat. The yams are missing molasses. As far as authenticity is concerned it is far from being so! The delivery time was extremely fast! Not a long wait time for an order placed at 4:pm est on a Saturday afternoon!

I visited here as it was one of the few places near Yankee Stadium that was clean and quiet. The cashier and workers that attended to me were friendly. I ordered oxtail, Mac and cheese, and cabbage with a kola drink. The Mac and cheese was just okay, nothing special. The oxtail and the sauce that it was in was too salty for my liking but the cabbage was absolutely fresh and delicious. I probably won't come back here again for oxtail but I'll try the fried chicken next time and see if there's a difference.

tl;dr heavy platters of slightly pricey and okay-to-great Jamaican fare are the rage at this hole-in-the-wall takeout joint As I searched for non-stadium food around Yankees Stadium, Flavas was a routinely recommended option. And promising authentic Jamaican eats and large portions, it was an easy choice over the Hard Rock Cafe. The small space feels even smaller due to the heavy-duty glass structure fencing customers off from the kitchen. Contemporary music and chatter between patrons echo loudly around the room. The yellow walls are decked sparingly with the required NYC restaurant code posters, broken ordering touchscreens, and a muted flat-screen TV playing CNN. Two mismatched tables are squeezed into the tiny area. Mains and side dishes sit in trays along the display counter, but with such quick turnover, new batches routinely replace old ones. My girlfriend and I arrived just before 5PM, and not a moment too soon -- a line quickly began forming just after we ordered. We opted for Jerk Chicken and Oxtail Stew Combo Plates, with sides of Butter Beans and Tomatoes, Sweet Candied Yams, Mac & Cheese, Collard Greens, and Ripe Plantain. Both platters were enormous: our large takeaway containers were loaded nearly to the brim. The chicken was slightly dry and therefore was well-complemented by its thick, sweet-and-spicy jerk sauce. The sauce was so good that we couldn't help but dip our plantains and mac & cheese into it. The tender oxtails, coated in a light gravy, melting in your mouth with fatty decadence. Of the sides, our favorite side was the sweet and fluffy yams. We also enjoyed the flavorful (and wholly standard) collard greens and the sweet, well-cooked (but underseasoned) plantains. Meanwhile, the mac & cheese was limp and underwhelming (despite being a fresh batch), and the beans were underwhelming and bland. Service was forgettable, but we listened as another customer complained multiple, separate times about not receiving the correct items in her order. While a few items hit the spot, others were mediocre at best. And at a hair over $40 for two (mostly comprised of the oxtail platter), Flavas was no cheap eat and won't become a regular part of my routine. However, for a hungry belly in the area looking for an eclectic cuisine, Flavas is sure to leave you satisfied.

The macaroni and cheese I ordered was OK you will definitely get plenty of food they give you plenty of food. I had barbecue chicken. The chicken was kind of dry barbecue sauce was something I never tasted. It really didn't give barbecue. I had some yams which were good. I ordered off of Uber Eats so I'm not sure about the service inside the restaurant or the ambience if I need to order something like last resort, I will order from here again.

People do not want chicken soup with bones in it. It was not described in the menu chicken bone soup! Totally absurd! Imagine biting into 4 bones in one cup of soup .. discusting! Mashed potatoes were from a box....

A cool spot for Caribbean. Flavas is a pretty small cafe with not much room inside. It often has a long line. Better than expected. There's a computerized self order system. Especially busy before or after Yankees games. It doesn't have much room inside so you're likely taking it to go. The food isn't the best price. It helps that they give you a lot. The last time here it took awhile to make a few items that were a part of our meals. It's forgivable especially if there's a game. They have food in a combo where you choose items and sides. I like getting the vegetable combo. It's about $8 for a lot of starches and vegetables picked from a list. There's choices like okra and plantains. It has pretty healthy food. Stop before going to a game. This food is much better than anything there.

Soul food is the best! This restaurant is one of the best soul food in NYC!! Location: It is located in Gerard Ave, 5 min walk from Bronx Supreme Court which I had my jury duty! The restaurant is small with few seatings inside. There is a huge line and there is a great display of food inside! Service: The 2 ladies runs this restaurant! One in the cashier and one in the food selection. They don't look stress despite of the long line. Food: I got the Lunch Special: one main course and 2 sides, the price depends on the meat. I got the OXTAIL: it was so good, and it has meat on it, unlike other oxtails that you eat on the other restaurants that is mostly bones of the oxtail, it sauce is good! MAC and CHEESE: probably the best mac and cheese I ate, does not look good but when you eat it, damn it is soo cheezy and good! GREENS: its good too, but lack of seasoning, I should have got the OKRA. Price rating: 6/10, not bad for amount of food and deliciousness you get! I bought a medium container of just the OXTAIL it cost $20 but damn it is a lot! OMG I will definitely go back here for soul food! TRY the OXTAIL and MAC and CHEESE!

Rice & Peas & Tings is located toward the rear of the Bronx Terminal Market food court. I wound up here early on a Sunday morning and decided to give them a try. After the warm greeting, I asked if it was too early for stew chicken and was told 'Course not'. I was given a hearty serving of food, with EXTRA GRAVY like I requested. I could have fallen in love right there. I grabbed one of the many available tables, near the Christmas tree, so I could look wistfully out, onto...the highway. While the plate was plentiful, the chicken I received was small boney pieces. If you look, you can see the chicken back in my picture. This is not exactly a complaint (bones are for chewing), but I would have liked to have more actual meat. The chicken itself was also slightly sweeter than my preference, but still very good. Honestly they had me at the extra gravy and could probably do no wrong. The rice and veg were both well cooked and I have no complaints on either. I will definitely return and try different things from the menu (looking at you oxtail).

So I was so very disappointed when after Covid they continued with the only pick up service. The food quality is enough to continue yes but the vibe dining in and at the bar I truly miss. My daughters fell in love with this place because every time we walked into that dinning room there was a particular servers who KNEW US. They knew us enough to know my daughters had a favorite table (the 1st we sat at dinning there). They know us to know that my daughters had special distinction drink mocktails (one of the reasons the fell in love wit this place) that they could order even when it was no longer in the menu. This was one of those places we frequented....even if they couldn't get their special table or waiter, the quality never disappointed. During Covid we order delivery regularly because we didn't realize how much this spot because our Caribbean food must have. I can't say we ever really had tried a different meal from over favorable ones that made us say this is one thing they don't get right to us. And the rum punches and Bob Marley drinks they served during their dinning days is what got me to the pin t I had to start stopping in this joint just to have a drink and appetizers. This really used to be by spot back when they had dine in services. Over the years it's in our delivery/pickup Bronx favorite list unfortunately. I say unfortunately because now that we are back at full operational living. I har to slash the delivery/pickup weekly rituals to only situations of desperation not necessity. So this spot has only become a craving order delivery/pickup order spot. Not a I got some/gonna make some time to go enjoy a drink and some Caribbean food spot destination. Which this was my #1 default choice before Covid as I said this used to be my spot. I would take my daughters here damn there biweekly if not be there weekly myself on dates and when hanging out . Cause they people there were serious enough about customer service they would acknowledge knowing who you are and treat you as such. Hence again why my daughters loved this place as kids. *Looks right and left* a yoo when yall opening the dinning in area again cause it's been log enough now...FIX IT! lol

The jerk chicken lovers in my life can't get enough. My recommended dishes are the whiting (fried) with rice and peas, rasta pasta and now the lobster (which I didn't know they had). The seafood is made to order, fresh and super tasty. I never thought sweet chili and lobster would be a good combo but it totally rocks! It was truly delectable. My only issue is that they charge for gravy if the dish isn't saucy (as if) lol but I get it!

They have a DJ so if you're looking to vibe while enjoying Ghanian food, this could be the spot. It was my first time trying Malt and the best way I can describe it is it tastes like molasses, slightly bitter, slightly yeasty but very mild overall. We started off with the Chicken Suya which was a bit dry and chewy but the suya seasoning made all the difference. It tastes like a blend of chili powder, ginger, garlic, onion powder, paprika, etc. It was a fine starter but definitely skippable. For entrees, we got the Street Waakye and Jollof Queen. I've had waakye (pronounced waa-che) before but this was pretty dry. The spaghetti was light and I actually liked that they used thinner noodles rather than the regular spaghetti. This dish comes with fried fish which was light, flaky, and moist. The real winner was the goat stew. I'm salivating just thinking about it! You get the essence of tomato, the tenderness and slight gamey flavor from the goat, and the thick and luscious sauce that was an explosion of flavors. I even dipped the boiled egg into the sauce which was unbelievably satisfying. The jollof rice from the Jollof Queen was cooked way better than the waakye. It was moist, well-seasoned, and didn't really need anything added to be good. I loved the sweet plantains and the chicken was also well-prepared. Considering how much jollof rice there was and that it was ~$25, they could've given more than 2 pieces of chicken. Overall, it was a pretty good meal! When the bill came, I saw there was an automatic 18% gratuity added which is totally fine considering we were a party of 7. However, they then pointed out that this wasn't tip and was a fee for "the table". I eat out a lot and never in my life have I heard of this. We ended up adding another 10% on top of that. They also charge a 3% credit card fee. I don't agree with them trying to squeeze out more money from customers who are already coming and spending money; this is definitely not the norm anywhere else I've been. Not too many restaurants in NYC serving Ghanaian cuisine but you'll enjoy some traditional dishes here.
