This review is on a catering order for a 50th birthday party. Ms. Jodie was the instrumental to get this order done for 60-70 ppl. We ended up updating the order to be fulfilled in half pans so 2 can fit in the chafing pans. That worked out perfectly! Pick up was simple and easy, however they didn't have boxes. Each pan easily went into my truck but required a few trips back & forth. The quality of the food was super fresh, enough spice and the rice & peas were the star of the show. Not a drop was left! Cabbage, jerk chicken, plantains, cocktail beef patties & rasta pasta made for something everyone could eat. Guests were pleased and there was plenty to send relatives home with a plate. I'm always looking for Caribbean spots near by, so I was happy to come across this spot. Called to make sure they had o tail & the lady was pleasant. Business was flowing when I arrived. Seems like everyone was ordering to go since it was a Friday night, but they did have a seating area too. It's what you'd expect of a whole in the wall spot. Not sure what the bathrooms are like, cus I stayed in the front. Only thing I didn't see, but might've been ok the menu was the Jamaican patty display. I ordered an oxtail plate with rice & peas, cabbage, & plantain. The rice & peas were kinda soft -- I prefer mine more stern. The plantains were a bit rubbery like they sat out for a lil while, the oxtails had a sweet flavor to it, but the cabbage was fresh. Portion size was decent. Got the large for $30+ & had left overs. I was greeted upon entry. That's always a plus! My visit was about ten minutes. I went at lunch shortly after they opened. I ordered two small jerk chicken plates. It came with rice and peas, plantain, and cabbage. The jerk chicken was delicious. The rice did note have the usual coconut flavor but it was still delicious. My mom ordered take-out from here. She called it in and the food was ready when they said it's be ready. Between the family we had jerk chicken, oxtails, beef patty, and Mac and cheese. I sampled the jerk chicken, rice and peas, and cabbage. The sauce with the jerk was great! It was a sweet spicy jerk sauce. While the sauce was good the chicken was dry, like it was severely reheated before we picked it up. I had to watch what pieces I have my younger child as it could've been a choking hazard. We also asked for oxtail gravy on the rice which was yummy. The cabbage was ok, not that flavorful. I did not try the other things but the feedback was: oxtails ok, not extra fatty like some places, beef patty was good with a touch of spiciness, Mac and cheese was good if not a little sweet. I've never really eaten any Caribbean food, except for plantains, so I had no idea what to expect. Knowing that jerk chicken is spicy, my fear would be that it would be too hot for me. I don't even like medium salsa! As I was driving by with time to kill before a meeting, I decided to stop and give it a try. I got the curried goat. I was expecting a gamier taste, like lamb, but it had nothing to distinguish it from beef. It was a tiny bit spicier than I would usually eat but the rice cut the heat. I loved the flavor of everything. The plantains were yummy - I'd get an order of those anytime. The cabbage mix was like a warm, vinegar-based slaw. The young man who helped me was very nice. My husband was excited to see that a Jamaican restaurant and moved in so close to where we live. Also a little nervous about trying it out because sometimes as you know restaurants are disappointing. Not this one! Of course one of the first things he tried was the oxtails and he absolutely loved them. My brother and myself have enjoyed the stew chicken and tried another dish we liked as well.
