I'd love to give this restaurant a better review but the truth is we definitely got some "end of the night" food. Two orders of salmon over yellow rice w/ creamed spinach. The salmon was decent but the cream sauce over the top was super salty and overcooked I believe because it was very dark. The creamed spinach was meh in flavor and was over cooked to the point where it was the consistency of baby food. I think if prepared fresh this entire plate would have been good. I returned to Starr last weekend and was I in for a treat. There were two specials that night, Jerk chicken Alfredo and a brown butter pan roast NY strip steak with pan roasted potatoes. Came after work on a Sunday. It was a lot of couples so don't come looking to flirt. I was hungry and wanting a drink. They had $5 fish bowls but I wanted the Wray & Nephew Rum so mine was $8. Drink could have been a tad bit stronger but it was good. I ordered the blackened salmon. Now it was so delicious. The spinach, the sauce everything. My only concern was temperature. The salmon was the only thing hot. Everything else was room temp and it was concerning. I was too hungry to complain so I ate and drank my drink. We were on our way home from DragonCon and stopped at the douglasville exit on a whim. Yelp reviews were really convincing so despite it looking like a dive. I am so glad we did! This place is a treasure. The chef really knows his stuff, especially when it comes to Caribbean food. We had a pitcher of mixed drinks which wins big points in my book! Considered a Hookah but passed this time, love that it's an option though. Now to the food, she got the salmon burger and I had the Jerk chicken plate. The burger was good and fries were fresh but the story was the Jerk chicken. Holy cow! Best I've had outside of Jamaica. I wish I was still eating it. Ok so the first time I attempted to go here, I went off the hours on their website and they were wrong. I should've just went with the hours on Google and Yelp. I went again and it was such a cool, mellow spot. A couple of my girls and I had reservations for 6 on a Friday (which we really didn't need) and I was seated right away. We all ordered the Blackened salmon and it was delicious. The spinach was more of a dip, give us some chips and we would've been good. We had the Galaxy Punch but ordered it in a pitcher which was perfect for the three of us and much cheaper than ordering individual drinks. The punch was the business too. Very tasty. I am giving this restaurant 2 stars because of the DJ and host they were good. I sat at the bar and there wasn't anyone actually working the bar like most places. A lady came and said she would be my server I told her what I wanted to drink and she said she would also bring me water. Twenty mins later I was still waiting on my drink I seen that it was ready and I asked where they making drinks if it was the Galaxy which is what I ordered, she yes and I asked for a cup and sat down. The server came and apologized and said someone will be serving me going forward she has to many tables, but before she left I ordered wings. A gentleman came in to sit at the bar and he had to go order his food and drinks with the ladies making drinks. Someone finally came behind the bar and said she will be helping us. The lady on the side of me asked for another drink and she ok. Thirty mins later she still didn't have her drink and I was still waiting on wings. The server who was behind the bar forgot the girl ordered one and never placed it. It took me telling I guess she was the manager twice I was still waiting on my wings. Let me start off by saying that the food here is phenomenal. Please continue to read if you're interested in learning why I am choosing to leave such a lackluster review after much thought and consideration. My partner & I decided to stop by Starr Food Lounge on her lunch break (she works nights) because the menu was appealing and they allow substitutions if you have dietary restrictions (which she does). We arrived on a Thursday around 7:21 pm, and despite it being their karaoke night, we were seated rather quickly. The waitress took out drink order, and because we were both pressed for time and starving, we placed our entree orders at the same time. As someone who dines out frequently, I can get an accurate feel for the wait time after being seated and taking a look around of an establishment, regardless of where I am in the world. Because this was a lounge with a small business feel, I expected to wait 30 minutes max for my shrimp curry and her lobster rice. Imagine my surprise when we hadn't received our food by 8pm. Please note that I *hate* to complain, especially when dining at a small business during a pandemic. However, I am also accustomed to top tier customer service being a native Chicagoan, but I understand that different factors needed to be considered when dining in smaller metropolitan cities. With that being said, my girlfriend and I were not the only ones that noticed that although we had been seated for quite some time and I managed to drink 2 New Yorkahs, we still hadn't received our food. We learned that the cooks misplaced our food tickets, which meant that our food had be cooked from scratch 40 minutes after we placed our order. Both annoyed and hungry, we decided to continue to be patient, both because we were hungry and an employee told us that our drinks would be comped. They were not. Needless to say, the food was absolutely delicious, however, the long wait time and the technical mishap that occurred despite us being the second table seated was a huge influencer in my decision to never return. We went on a Friday night around 8 and were able to get an amazing booth. Our waitress was delightful and attentive. The food was OFF THE CHARTS GOOD. My love and I decided to try somewhere new for our 6 year anniversary. Big mistake. We should have stuck to the rivers and lakes we were use to. The music was a vibe. We ordered our drinks and food, which is on the high end of average pricing, and waited about 45 minutes with very few people in the restaurant and most everyone already eating. My son brought my mom and I here for Sunday brunch. We got there right at opening. We were promptly greeted by a very friendly young lady. The food took a few minutes longer than what I expected. However, once it came out, I realized why. Everything was made fresh. I was literally in awe at how good it was. I think I did a little happy dance. My son had shrimp and grits and it was probably the best I've ever tasted. He's a bit of a food snob and was very impressed. We almost didn't come here due to the sheer number of low reviews. Only 13 but those reviews were great so we drove out to the restaurant. And then the parking lot was dark and empty so we almost kept driving. We are so glad we didn't!!! Absolutely delicious! We had the crab dip and chips! Best dip ever! Both were amazing and I'm glad to see a small business getting back to the essence of superior customer service.
