last night of our awesome MN trip
    Tricia G.

I can't think of any one negative thing about this great coffee shop! The coffee was outstanding, the service was exceptional, and I LOVED the cozy décor. My friend had to practically force me to leave! We were chilling on our last night in MN. I'm guessing that Caribou Coffee is Minneapolis's "version" of Starbucks. Which I don't like BTW. CC is also in the Mall of the Americas - smart!

The "matcha" drink they served. Needless to say, it had hardly any matcha in it.

Do NOT go here if you love matcha!! I love Caribou Coffee & have been a loyal customer for over a decade. Unfortunately, my recent visit to this location was a terrible experience. I adore matcha & get it quite often at Caribou Coffee shops. At this location, the drink was unbelievably watered down. So much so that it barely had a hint of green & tasted purely of oat milk. When I kindly asked for a bit more matcha, the barista said they could add vanilla to it but not matcha "because it's the more expensive ingredient." This is after paying over $7.00 for a drink. The barista then added that he "used the right amount of matcha." As someone who adores matcha drinks & has them quite a bit from Caribou & other shops, I was honestly so disappointed. The drink had so little matcha in it any well versed barista would have known by looking at the color of the drink alone that it was not right. Then, to argue with a costumer & refuse what would be a normal amount of matcha because the ingredient is "too expensive" is gross. I should have been at least offered a refund. No one should be charged over $7 for oat milk. I will never go to the location again, to say the very least. They are scamming paying customers.

The space itself looks like an older Caribou location that's been renovated, with a casual vibe and plenty of seating options. They also offer food like breakfast items and sandwiches, which is a plus. The coffee was just fine overall, but the sesame latte was a miss for me. It tasted like straight sesame seed grounds and was very gritty. It didn't seem mixed well and was honestly hard to drink. The staff was friendly but also felt a bit distant at the same time. Service wasn't rude, but it didn't feel especially warm or welcoming either, almost like they didn't really want you to be there. Parking can be a little tricky right out front, but there are usually plenty of spots available in the main strip mall area nearby Trader Joe's. Overall, it's clear this place is very popular and busy, and I may have just caught it on an off day. Decent space and lots of options, but the drink and service didn't fully win me over on this visit.

They have a large assortment of coffee and other hot drinks, but the real highlight here is definitely the baked goods. The miso cortado was delicious and really stood out, and they have a great variety of specialty drinks. The service was also extremely kind and welcoming, which I genuinely appreciated. That said, the space didn't quite live up to the hype. The location felt a little unfinished. Minimal decor, unfinished flooring, and no truly cozy seating made it feel less like a place you'd want to settle into for a while. While they encourage people to linger and don't offer Wi-Fi (which I respect), the ambiance doesn't quite support that intention. It felt more like a quick in-and-out stop, even though that doesn't seem to be their goal. The atmosphere was chill, with vinyl records playing in the background, which was a nice touch. I just wish the overall design and seating matched that relaxed, stay-awhile vibe. Great coffee and kind staff, but the space itself didn't fully align with the experience I was hoping for.

They have a lot of super intriguing drinks that I can't wait to get back and try, but I had to have the black coffee for my first stop. They only do pour overs and mine was great. And so were the beans I took home. It's really nice to see a coffee shop that cares about their beans more than syrupy drinks. The shop itself is small but has some nice seating options. One thing to note is that they don't have WiFi so this place isn't really meant for the work from home crowd. I can't wait to get back here

The one thing I did find odd is that any toast that comes with your breakfast actually comes out in a separate basket. Mine arrived about 10 minutes before the rest of my breakfast which was the 2 eggs, sausage and potatoes. For me I would rather have it arrive on my breakfast plate because I am one of those folks that likes to dip their toast in their over-easy egg yolks. Arriving before the rest of your breakfast if you hold onto it awaiting the rest of your breakfast you are using cold toast. Everything still tasted good. But I did leave hungry. I actually sat there for a moment thinking do I need to order something else but how would that look. I am not a huge eater -- and typically have a little bit of something left on my plate when I go out for breakfast but this time not so much. It was thoughtful, balanced, and the clear highlight of the visit -- easily the reason I'd return. The croissant didn't stand out as much. It's premade and reheated in the microwave, which is not my personal favorite. The sandwiches taste fresh, and they are handed to you warm, but I wouldn't come back specifically for breakfast. Even though I stopped in on a busy Sunday morning, the wait was short, which I appreciated. The service felt a bit reserved. It wasn't unfriendly, just not especially warm.
