I didn't have a copy of my insurance card; the young lady was kind enough to print a copy for me from my online policy. I had a daytime running light that had been out of service for weeks. Unfortunately, what should have been a straightforward process turned into a four-month ordeal due to ongoing disputes between Moppert and my insurance provider, Progressive. This unnecessary back-and-forth resulted in significant delays for repairs that ultimately took only two weeks to complete. Throughout this process, I experienced unprofessional behavior, particularly from the owner, Doug Moppert. Even on the day I arrived to retrieve my vehicle after four long months, I was met with further frustration. Doug Moppert refused to release my car, initially claiming that it needed to be washed--a concern I expressed was unnecessary given the circumstances. When that excuse was dismissed, he then cited an inability to process the deductible payment and insisted I return the following day, citing "company policy." This led to an incredibly disheartening moment, where I was left sitting in my rental car, overwhelmed with frustration and disappointment. After some time, Doug approached me and stated that if I was willing to wait, he would clean the car and release it. I agreed, and eventually, another employee processed my deductible payment before Doug finally returned my vehicle. During the four months my car remained at Moppert, I endured rude and condescending treatment, including being yelled at via email, scolded by another employee, and misled by Doug Moppert himself up until the very last day. The lack of customer service and professionalism was appalling. Additionally, their practice of inflating estimates and delaying repairs until all supplemental payments are approved by the insurance company only prolonged the process and maximized their payout. Moppert claims to be a Certified BMW Collision Center, but the certification they reference is from their Pennsylvania location. The Tilton Road, Northfield, NJ location does not hold this certification. If you're in South Jersey and need collision repairs, I strongly recommend taking your vehicle elsewhere. Even if it means covering towing expenses yourself, taking your car to a reputable facility will likely save you time, money, and a great deal of frustration. I told the mechanic I had a cracked front reflector and asked if that would affect inspection. He said it would not, but after looking at it he pointed out that there was also a separation which would allow water to enter and cause more damage. I told him I had a replacement on order and he said he could put some tape to cover it till the piece arrived. I agreed and thanked him. I didn't look closely at my itemized bill till I got home, which is when I saw a charge of $15 for him to put a 3" piece of packing tape over the cracked reflector. Now, that wasn't a huge charge and they probably would have removed the charge if I asked them to, but for me it was more a matter of principle: I wasn't told about the charge. Clay's was off our list. Around the same time, my brother found another local mechanic which we have been using since then, which is over ten years now. Counting family members and two friends we recommended, there are seven vehicles that are now regularly serviced there, and not at Clay's Automotive.
