My husband and I rarely eat here, but when we do our stomach always hurts afterward. Last night on our way home from a graduation party, my husband asked me to stop there since he was hungry. On Christmas Eve, I stopped in to Carl's to grab a burger. This is the same Carl's Jr where I was introduced to the brand back when they were new to So Cal. I settled on a Six-Dollar Jalapeno Thick Burger and a fountain drink. The whole tab (including my 10% senior discount) was under $9.00. (Just because they call it a $6 Burger, don't think that's the cost.) A few days before, I went to Red Robin and got their Burning Love burger, which is comparable by description. Let me tell you, besides being several dollars less expensive and no endless fries, the Carl's burger tasted better. Also, you don't have to tip, and you can park close to the door and get out of there when you're done, which is 10 minutes, not an hour. I stopped going to Carl's for maybe ten years because their ad department was objectifying women. I like women, and I like burgers. You don't need to show me sexy girls to get me to buy a burger. (I had the big chicken fillet... tasty) The place is fairly clean and nothing was missing or not working at the soda fountain and ketchup stand. It is Thursday at 12:45 pm and it is not crowded. Avoid this place like the Plague! Carl's Jr. restaurants are my go-to place for flame cooked hamburgers, but this place bears NO resemblance to a Carl's Jr. There were only two people working and nobody cooking. One unpleasant lady was working the drive through and the counter, the other (also at the counter) was slopping together hamburgers as they rolled out of a reheating machine. I ordered two of their Super Star Combo specials before I realized how they were made. I should have left without them, but I went ahead and took them. The best description of the whole experience was DRY. Employee's personalities dry, sauce dry, meat dry, condiment dry, tasteless dry, dry, dry, YUK! I asked the staff about it and they said it is set at 60 degrees ALL THE TIME!! They were dressed with sweaters and extra warm socks and even said they won't sit in the dining room because it is so cold. It has been this way for a long time. I came here for the first time tonight around 9pm. I was definitely worried about how it would go, after reading all the negative reviews. However, I was pleasantly surprised by how friendly the staff was, how fast my food got to me and the overall quality of my burger! The drive-thru is incredibly weird. Apparently, it was built backwards, so the pick up window is on the passenger side of your car. (?) I don't get how that mistake could be made but the nice guy who helped me out had a good laugh with me about it. Easily, that revelation was the highlight of my Friday night. Anyway, he actually came out of his inside area to get my card and my food for me, which was so nice! A lady brought my order to the window so the guy could hand it to me and they both were really friendly. Now for the food. My western bacon cheeseburger was hot and very yummy once I got home. I did microwave it and the fries simply because I wanted my food super hot. However, I'm not going to quibble about a little heat when there's a perfectly good microwave right in front of me to warm up my food once I'm home. What's an extra 30 seconds out of my life? Not much. The burger could have used a little bit more sauce, but again, that's personal preference and nothing to get into a squabble about. That being said, I had a great experience here and I will definitely come back. It's a weird set-up with the drive-thru and it's fast food so the quality is on a sliding scale. My mistake and my apologies to my family. With only three people ahead of us you would think that the service would be fast as in fast food. Fifteen minutes later. . . . not fast. The restaurant was dirty. THe condiments were unavailable. There were several workers there milling around uselessly, unable to be productive. The "food" arrived. The Texas burgers arrived. They each had a trace of brisket and BBQ sauce. The burgers were OVERCOOKED, DRY & ALMOST INEDIBLE. A couple burgers were burned- too badly burned for DNA samples to be taken to determine what animal they were from. They tasted a little like bovine offal. The so-called fried Zucchini only tasted of grease-no flavor to the processed contents inside the little fried wrappings.And since when did zucchini have an orange hue- Farmer Boy is much superior in this department. We left the food order along with the greasy fries and went to The Hat for their astounding Pastrami Burgers, perfect fries and endless condiments.
