This was my paid for and tagged pallet in the middle
    Scott B.

My pallet of Flagstone was not delivered, instead a totally different pallet was. Mark in the office/yard says they aren't responsible if "another customer" removes a tagged item. Returning to the lot, the one I had selected and tagged and pictured wasn't even there. What then is the point of purchasing a name tagged item when Carlson's takes no responsibility for delivering on that purchased agreement?

So for those of you who don't know, I am an avid DIY'er. I love the feeling of planning out a project, taking several days - if not weeks to hmmm n haw over it, and then finally make a decision. But only after adequate time to Hmmm n Haw... Can't stress that enough. So this weeks project was a patio and a fire pit. Where there was none - now there will be. As part of the process, I needed to find the right kind of material. Well in case you haven't notice there's not a lot of places to buy pavers in TO. So I went to Carlson's! Heck the place has been here forever, and it's hard to miss, right in the heart of the city. First, I recommend scheduling a little extra time cause this place is like a little village, with all the different examples of what you can build, so take your time to look around. It really gets the creative juices going. So we finally settled on some Belgrade pavers, which they had in stock, which was a huge advantage. Mark, our new best bud over at Carlson's hooked us up with the delivery and even offered some sage wisdom. Most of all he was a real nice guy (just don't tell him I said so). Suffice it to say we had a great experience at Carlson's. We will be back soon as there are many more projects in the future, as well as plenty to Hmmm n Haw about...

Close-up of building supplies next to heritage Valley Oak

I parked and walked around to look at their inventory and landscaping examples, before I went into the building to place my order of bagged rocks. No one had the courtesy to tell me they closed at four, while I was walking around, yet they saw me. I was in the door at 3:55 pm, 5 minutes before closing, as I looked at my phone when they told me I could make the purchase without the merchandise. They, including Mr. Carlson, said my order would need to be picked up tomorrow, because they were closed. The owner said all the equipment was shut down. I asked why no one informed me earlier, and he said, "it is on the door." Gee, thanks. I didn't see the door until I walked into the building. I offered to load the bags myself, but they said "no." (I do understand liability issues.) However when I walked outside, two forklifts were still going. When I got home, my husband told me they handloaded the bagged rocks during a recent purchase. In the past, we have supported Carlson's with several purchases. We prefer to keep the tax money in the city we live in. However, this was terrible customer service. Obviously they must be doing so well, that the owner doesn't care if they lose customers. During our discussion, I was told I could pay now and pick up the rocks tomorrow. I asked, ""why would I pay today, to pick them up tomorrow, when I can pay tomorrow and pick them up tomorrow." We found Thompson's Building and Supply in Camarillo. They were very nice on the phone, and while they only sell the rock we needed in bulk, they will bag them. In the end, the price of the purchase also ended up being less money, too. As aside, when I was walking around the yard, I was appalled to see how heavy building materials were being stored very close to the trunks of beautiful ancient valley oaks located in their yard. This is a violation of the City of Thousand Oaks, Oak Tree Protection Ordinance. Shame on them!

Mark helped me calculate the amount of material I needed (measured in Truckloads) and those calculations were spot on.

I shopped around to a lot of places and found that Arena had the largest selection of everything from Marble, to quartz to quartzite. You can't beat their prices also. They were by far less expensive than many of the competitors. I received personalized service from Johanna and Riza, the owner was always on hand, if we had any questions. It is a small business owner, which we like to purchase from, rather than the chain stores. We choose to use their installer and were not sorry. They sent us Melvin and his associate who did awesome work. They were diligent, cleaned up after themselves, timely and produced quality work. I was very pleased with Arena and would not hesitate to use them and recommend them to others.

In the 10 years that I have lived out in Westlake Village we've remodeled our entire house and I've been in there multiple times and even bought a slab of marble once just because they had what I wanted and it was discounted but otherwise I would not have purchased from them at all because I hate their personalities and their attitudes. I have purchased thousands and thousands of dollars of marble and Tile and slabs from other stores but I refuse to even go into the store anymore. I recently went in there just to look for some 12 x 24 Carrera Blanco and no one could be bothered to even walk up to me or look up from their desk and when I finally just walked into one of the offices and asked a man for help he looked so put out an irritated same with the heavyset older woman in the office next to him. I guess they just don't realize how much competition they have out there and that a lot of people are just ordering stuff online now but I see they've expanded their showroom so they must still get customers. If I'm going to spend that kind of money in a store I want friendly and helpful sales staff which they definitely do not have there

~ THE FRIENDLIEST SUPPLY YARD EVER ~…read more As a lady who's 5 feet tall and knows absolutely nothing about construction or landscaping materials, walking into a building supply yard alone was way outside my comfort zone, but the team at Peach Hill Soils made the experience not just easy, but actually enjoyable! I called in advance looking for a specific rock material for a landscaping project. I had no idea what it was called, but after describing it the best I could, Marcus was so kind and patient, he helped me figure out exactly what I was talking about, gave me a rough estimate on how much I'd need, and even priced it out for me over the phone. Super helpful. When I showed up in person, I was greeted with nothing but friendly smiles. Andy helped me right away and walked me over to see the material in person. Not only did he explain the differences between the options, but he even put together a small sample for me to take home. That extra step meant a lot! Placing the order later was just as easy. I called in, gave them my card info, and let them know my landscaper would be picking it up at will call - done and done. No hassle, no confusion. Whether you're a contractor or just a homeowner trying to figure things out like me, this team is awesome. They're knowledgeable, kind, and truly make you feel welcome. I'll absolutely be coming back! *TIP: If it's your first time at the location, drive all the way in past the piles of material, you'll find a small office on the right. That's where you find the staff!
