Excellent experience at CarMax. We shopped online, got reapproved, then went for a test drive. We test drove two cars, chose one, and the signing process was easy. The only sad part is that we bought the car at the end of the day. So the workers who detailed the car before we got the keys didn't do the best job. I ended up having to clean all the visual dust, stains, and spots throughout by myself. Other than that, I would definitely use CarMax again next time we purchase a car. read more

After 45 minutes I got up and told the front desk person that I've been waiting over 40 minutes when I had an act appointment for 3:00 pm. I asked the employee why do they make appointments and then let you wait almost an hour or more to be seen!! All I was doing was picking up a car for a 24 hour test drive and had already sent all the documentation they had asked for before hand! I should have been out of there by 3:15 at the latest!! Dies this dealership think Busy customers have all day to wait on them?!?! I'm a doctor and I wonder how they'd feel if they had an appointment at a certain time with me and I showed up almost an hour late!!! Simply poor customer service!! called ahead to ask about selling my car and specifically asked whether coming in person would result in a more accurate appraisal. I was told I could either get an online quote or come in for a better assessment and appropriate value, so I scheduled an appointment and drove in. When I arrived on time, I waited nearly 20 minutes. Eventually I was informed that the in-person appraisal would be very similar to the online quote, which made the visit feel unnecessary. The facility itself is clean and they have a nice selection of vehicles. However, I did have some difficulty getting assistance. I had to knock on an office door to get someone's attention before being connected with a representative. Overall, I'm sure CarMax is a good place to purchase a vehicle, but my appraisal experience could have been more efficient and better communicated. read more

Wow ,,, what a HORRIBLE experience. Went in to Carmax today to buy my daughter a car , we were greeted by a rude man in which I had to ask him hey you having a bad day buddy ? So then me and my daughter proceeded to look for the car she wants , we found it . We went into the show room asked if she could test drive the car , the gentleman ( Ken ) said yes no problem , he said he had to put us on a list and would be a short wait . Ok no problem ,, so we went and sat down ,,, 35 minutes later I went back up to the desk and asked hey do you know how much longer it will be ? Ken answers not sure , you still have the same one person in front of you ! We decided to just leave and buy the car elsewhere, Ken was friendly and professional unlike the guy who greeted us . Unfortunately carmax lost a sale and a potential customer , whats also weird is I counted 11 people in the show room standing around ( I took a photo but won't post it due to their faces being clear in the photo ) ,, on their phones doing absolutely nothing ! I actually asked what about all these people standing around , and the response I got was they are all with customers lol ,,, their was NO customers with these people , they were on their phones and chatting with each other . I would give this dealership zero stars if I could. I purchased my car just two months ago, and the brake warning sensor has already come on, indicating that the brake pads need to be replaced. I contacted the service department manager to discuss the issue, but they declined to provide any assistance. I work from home and drive the car very little, so it is extremely disappointing that such a significant issue has occurred after only two months of ownership. I was told to go to this dealership in Fairfield versus others because it was close to my home and they'd pay for a LYFT thereby making it easier to make this happen midweek without any rides set up...Once there, they said that number was a national number and that they would not honor the representation for a free ride. When I asked to speak to their manager I was rudely and dismissively spoken to like I had conjured up this offer. I brought my wife's car in for some warranty work less than a month after we'd bought it, and the service guy caught multiple other issues and added them to the list of free fixes. Like one of the turn signals down in the bumper had condensation inside it, something I never would have noticed but he did. he easily could have ignored it to fix the things I was there to complain about. I'm waiting for a call back as I write this for my next car I'm having delivered so I can go pay for it and pick it up. Money went "missing" We went in to buy a car and had cash to make everything a little easier on both ourselves and the sale itself. We went in with $8000 cash in hand expecting to pay a down payment and whatever taxes there could've been on top, we were then told that everything including tax and warranty was already included in the $6000 down payment. Our salesman John was an amazing help and the perfect salesman. Unfortunately when we came back to actually buy the John wasn't there and we were working with one of the money handlers named Steven Puentes, it was around 6:30-7pm when we started the process of paying for the car, I had the man the total $8000 and counted my money 4 times before walking into the dealership, while counting the money one of the first things he said was "he hoped the machine worked correctly tonight since it's been having problems lately" problem number one is Steven didn't count the money himself and had no one around to properly watch as well to make sure all money was accounted for, I stated several times I have him $8000 in total because I didn't know if tax was already included. He then informed me we would only owe $6000. The only way he counted the money was through the machine (which "hopefully" worked correctly) after he finished with the money he handed back what was leftover from the $6000 down payment which should have been $2000. Now I'll admit I should've recounted the money on the spot but I 9 months pregnant and already tired and wanted to settle the payment as soon as possible and go home. After I got home I recounted the money the next day only to realize we were only give $1,150 therefore missing $850. We gave Carmax a call and let them know the situation and they said they would do an investigation, turns out the cameras don't point towards the money machine, there's no sound to the video and they admitted Steven didn't take proper procedures with counting the money and was "reprimanded" but also said because I didn't count the money there and then that there was nothing they could do. And I could understand if I maybe miscounted $100-$200 before hand but I didn't miscount $850, and I even specified to Steven several times I have him $8000 and you would think if I didn't give him the full $8,000 like I claimed that he would say something to prevent things like this happening. But in the end we are out $850 and the only form of punishment for this is to be "reprimanded". Moral of the story, don't trust them with your cash, could end in someone else getting a fat bonus, lesson learned from us. read more

I came into CarMax today to assist my parents in selling their car to CarMax. For the most part, CarMax is one of the places to sell you car if you do not want to go through the private seller process. If you do a trade-in at the dealer, you will not get much, but CarMax will generally give you a much higher and reasonable price on your car. As for buying a car, the prices are generally a little higher than if you shop around and haggle with a used car dealer. The price for buying a car is firm. The nice thing about buying at CarMax is that they do fully detail their cars and do full inspections/servicing of their cars prior to putting on the lot to sell. Today, we had a good experience. My sister had scheduled the appointment on the wrong day, but fortunately they weren't busy yet and there was only 1 person ahead of us. Everyone we dealt with in this process were very nice. I did take 1 star off due to the selling process took a little longer at this location. I have sold 2 other cars personally at 2 different locations and the selling process took less steps and was a little faster. From the time they started the appraisal process to the time we got the check took about 45 minutes. read more

i went the other day to buy my very first car not really knowing what i wanted. Triniti was the sells person who helped me out and she was so sweet and had all the answers to my questions. i would definitely recommend her. like i said very sweet and understanding. the only thing that made me a little wary was that the manger turned the music off around 8 and made me feel like she was pushing us out. i understand that they close at 9 but i feel like they should have left it on at least till 9 when they closed. it just felt awkward because other people were also still in the building as well and like they were trying to rush the process. overall though very good experience and would recommend coming here to get a car. thank you again to Triniti for all the help. read more

They paid a very fair price for my car, and it was the same as their initial online offer; but otherwise it would be only 3 stars because of the issues below. Without those issues it would have been 5 stars. They did struggle to clear up my loan payoff in spite of a pre-printed payoff verification from my lender. They needed the full vin on the payoff paper instead of these the last 4 digits. They told me to come back the next day but I managed to get verbal confirmation from my lender so they allowed it to go forward. Then carmax website implies you can get a Lyft ride home after selling your car but apparently it's only limited to 20 miles. Clean store, nice staff but they're held to the company tight requirements that are inconvenient at best. read more

I believe her name is Trinity , she showed me an Audi Q3, it was my first time seeing it physically and I noticed that the cars has a lot of scratches and dents all over, I comment her that just like an simple observation. She behaved so rude, in despicable and defensive attitude, replying me that Carmax sells used cars so is obvious that the cars may/must have scratches and imperfections, that If I wanted a spotless car I should go to the Audi dealership instead. We went to test drive a car. The lady on the phone said we can come anytime during a particular two hour window. When we arrived, the guy at the check in area gave us an actual appointment which wasn't for another 30 or so minutes. This at least gave us a chance to look at the cars on the lot. When someone finally called our names, we were hot, tired and almost ready to leave. It was one of those really hot days. The lady took the driver license and proof of insurance copies so we could test drive the car. They let you take it out for 20 minutes a s they don't go with you due to COVID-19. We drove. The car was great. When we returned it we noticed the tires and wheel wells had white paint splattered all over them. There were also several dents on the vehicle. We asked her to check with management to see if they'd replace the tries, clean up the wheel wells and patch the dents/scrapes. She said she will check in to and and call us back. It's been three days... No call back has happened. Hmmm...They say they don't negotiate on their prices, yet I've found their prices to be higher than other places. Also, their trade in value offer for our vehicle was lower than other places. I'm used to a certain level of customer service and personal care. This location wasn't it. NEVER TRUST FAIRFIELD CARMAX! If I could give a ZERO I would. Michael Cotrel and Myron Giger are the worst managers, liars, and threaten to call the cops on me. They sold me two lemons back to back. The first car I bought myself for Christmas, but upon driving it off the lot on 12/21 (though I ordered it on 12/10 and I was told they held it form the 10th-21st because it was getting painted but when I got the car it had paint damage,) I noticed immediately that something was wrong, and brought it in the next day and after 27 days at Carmax, I was told the transmission was bad. They told me they would extend the 30 days if I needed more time & I could return the one with the bad transmission in exchange for something else if I needed. I physically went back into Carmax where someone helped me "shop" for a different car there. I had to go to Modesto to pickup car number two, but when I showed up on 1/17 to Modesto to do the exchange it couldn't happen because Fairfield Carmax being the absolute worst, they forgot to submit my paperwork so I made a 4 hour drive for nothing, went back again (another 4 hours) on 1/18 and exchanged my vehicle, they told me they would reimburse me for those two days I had to drive (8hours in total) but never reimbursed me. On 1/20 the vehicles stopped working altogether and I had to have it towed in... today is 2/15 and Carmax Fairfield once again had my car for 27 days and was UNWILLING to make it right, and told me they would consider the issues but not give me anything in writing to support what they were telling me. read more

I'll try to keep this as short as possible... I bought a 2019 Ford F-150 Platinum (89,000 Miles) back in May. The truck was priced well and looked to be cosmetically excellent. But then the issues started showing up. 1) horn was broken/didn't work 2) brakes were almost completely gone 3) GPS didn't work 4) cam phasers were worn out 5) CV Axel was bent 6) 4 wheel hubs were worn out 7) loose fitting misc. parts like tail light etc. The truck has been in the service department at Ford of Fairfield for a total of 7 weeks now because CarMax didn't have the ability to diagnose the issues. I HAVE HAD TO PAY FOR A RENTAL THE WHOLE TIME. At a $100+ dollars a day, that's a lot of money. MaxCare, the extended warranty through CarMax, covered #'s 1, 3, 4, 6, &7 but refused to repair/replace #'s 2, &5. (Worn out brakes and bent CV Axel) with no explanation. They just said "NO". Additionally, their communication skills are awful. No helpful answers, no follow up, and every time I asked to speak to the manager BERNARD (I think his name was), they said he wasn't there. Where was he? Don't know... when I finally did get to talk to him, he told me they weren't going to do anything to help. Sooooo. WARNING! Shop somewhere else. Carmax is trash. Their customer service is horrible. I paid to have car transferred from Henderson Nevada to Fairfield. The process from start to finish took 3 weeks. The car was shipped from Henderson to Fairfield within days but yet sat at the dealership with no update and every time I called the number everyone had different answers. Either a part was needing to be replaced (couldn't tell me what part) or that it would be 24-48 hours ready, to the quality check department isn't there on the weekends and then another representative told me they were there on weekends but they can't provide any updates. I had my issue escalated twice and never received a call back, showed up at the dealership and the guy was bland and said yup a part is being replaced should be 48 hours max and sent us away. I called at 48 hours since again... no call back. The sales rep John got ahold of me and confirmed the car was done and we scheduled my test drive and purchase order. Arriving for my test drive John was great to help us and understood our frustration. He even found out that morning one of the workers put my car on the lot near the upcoming transfers and it had a sticker on it to be transferred that day. If he don't catch it my car would have been gone when I paid money to have it shipped! Customer service is trash, if they didn't have my exact car I wouldn't have gone with them at all. I will preface that we have purchased 1 car previously from this location and bought and sold another car from the Roseville location. I have recommended to everyone buying a car to go to CarMax. At least 2 people I know have made these purchases. After our experience last night, NEVER AGAIN and will tell everyone I know NEVER go to the Fairfield location. 1. We had to wait over an hour just to get someone to help us. You are not an Apple Store nor should you even follow this business model. 2. When we did get help, it was worthless. She didn't care, didn't try at all. We had to argue with her that a car was available because we scanned it in the parking lot and it was available. "Oh, there it is." 3. This girl was more interested in sneak eating her French Fries from McDonalds than help us. Are we in High School? 4. The straw that broke the camel's back was when we wanted to test drive the car. They wanted our email address to send a link for US to take photos of the driver license front and back, a phot of our insurance card take a selfie AND make is create a CarMax account!! Are you serious??? CarMax, this is a horrible ploy at data collecting I have ever seen. What do you do with little old people that don't have smart phones and email addresses, do you NOT let them test drive a car? This was an oddly shitty experience. At first, I ordered a car online to have it delivered to my house, but I was informed that if I wanted to take advantage of the 24-hour test drive, I would have to pick it up from the store. So I made an appointment and went in. I parked in the special parking spot for people with appointments and nothing happened. I walked inside and told him I had an appointment and they told me to wait for a spot online for the next available sales rep. I gave them my name, which for some reason was misspelled in their computer, and then proceeded to walk around the lot with my wife and son to look at the cars. The cars were pretty damn underwhelming and disappointing in that most were crappier models of generally good car lines. Much of the selection here is regional and there's not much color optionality. Either way, we walked around for about 45 minutes and at no point got a phone call or a text or were greeted by any salespeople even though it didn't seem that busy. No one ever asked us about our appointment or cared that we showed up on time or that we had pre-ordered. No one ever showed us the car that we had ordered. And when we left, the salespeople standing around not taking care of people all simply said have a nice day... Clearly having no fucking clue that we had been waiting or on line at all... Because, well, what line? God bless but CarMax is getting crappier. read more
