I made an appt. They knew we were coming and what we needed to do - return the POS that we bought initially as it started with Transmission problem within 5 days of driving it home. We found another car to replace it with and we said the day before we wanted to buy it. So we scheduled an appt but had to sit here for 3 hours on a Monday evening!!! We signed the docs after 3 hours and then waited more! They then said we need to re- sign again because it didn't go through right the first time. So more time waiting! This place is terrible. I received an online offer from CarMax fremont for my car and booked an appointment for the next day. My car had valid registration for the next 40 days, but I had already paid for the next year. On Day 2, they called me 15 minutes before the appointment, stating that the CA DMV had not completed the registration renewal. Since I had initiated the registration and the DMV status was not fully updated, they couldn't proceed, and I had to wait until it went through. I had to return halfway, wasting my time. They could have informed me earlier, but I let it slide. On Day 3, the DMV status was finally updated. I called them to confirm everything was set, and I could just come in. However, upon arriving, they informed me that I needed to wait to get the stickers in mail. When I mentioned that I had confirmed that all that was needed, they blamed the other office for not having the correct information. What's the point of confirming things if they are so unprofessional? They wasted my time again and asked me to come back once I had the stickers. I will not be doing business with them. read more

We purchased our Honda pilot from the San Jose Carmax .The customer service was good, we had a good experience with the representative. After we purchase the vehicle, we realize that we overpaid on the car by at least 7000. They gave us a three month period to bring the car in if there were any problems. As soon as we got off the lot, we started seeing all of the problems. There was a drag when we accelerate the car. Windshield wipers were not wiping, there was a small hole that became visible in a different lighting than when we test drive on our windshield. There was a hole in the seam on our passenger seat. The window was dragging when putting up and down . I called Carmax and they were able to address some of these issues. I ended up taking the car to the Fremont Carmax because it is closer to us. Then the car started having other issues that I reported to their team. They said they would call me back and ended up not calling me back so by the time I had a chance to call them back, they said it was past three month timeframe. But if they called me back on time, it would've fallen within the timeframe. The driver seat base is cracked, there's a weird texture thing on the hatchback that's peeling off, the hatchback falls down on me while I'm getting my groceries out. This is really not acceptable. I reported these things before the time period was up, but they did not address them because they weren't able to have availability for an appointment and now I'm left with a car that's falling apart. CarMax definitely was a life saver for me and had my uncle not told me about this place I'd probably still be without a car. After dealing with my old car being a complete piece of crap and no longer being drive-able I had to deal with the hassle of renting cars until I could buy a new one (very expensive!!). I had been to a few dealerships and they all wanted crazy down payments and kept feeding me b.s. I finally decided to take a look into CarMax, while I was a little worried about the less than stellar reviews I still listened to my uncle and did some research. I looked at several cars on the website trying to find a good one that was in my price range and in good condition. I was not looking for a brand new car but a used car that was reliable, had low miles and in good condition. I finally found a few and decided to fill out the pre-qualification app. I was shortly contacted by I think his name was Rashaan and he went over everything with me and we scheduled an appointment for me to come take a look at the cars I was interested in, no pressure at all. After arriving to the dealership Rashaan took me to look at both the cars I was interested in and just gave me a little info about them and he definitely was happy to answer all of my questions and concerns. He was very nice, polite, seemed quite knowledgeable and never try to pressure me into getting a specific car. He catered what I was interested in. I decided to go with the 2016 Hyundai Elantra which is in good condition and had only 30,000 miles on it, no accidents, no recalls and he went through everything with me. The process was a long one with doing all of the paperwork, financing and all of that but that is to be expected. Visit #1: It was 4 visits in a week before I had my vehicle. I came in initially on a Thursday, did not have an appointment, but was able to look. I ended up being really torn between a 2018 RAV-4 and a 2018 CR-V with roughly the same mileage. Visit #2: I came back later that weekend to make up my mind, and found an upgraded CR-V that really sealed the deal for me. Visit #3: I returned with my husband about a week later, ready to make the purchase, got through all the paperwork, and when we presented the title of our trade-in vehicle, we came to realize that we had a copy, and it could not be accepted. It was a 3-day weekend, so we would have to wait another week before we could secure the paperwork and get the approval from the state that had given the title. Visit #4: Title copy was approved, and we were finally able to purchase the car and trade in our vehicle. We were buying the car outright, so it was also a hassle with what was needed of our bank concerning the large sum of the check being written. After all was said and done, I STILL had to wait for them to buffer out a scratch/dent that I had been reporting on the vehicle to be purchased since I noticed it in my 2nd visit (wouldn't they want all vehicles to be sold to be in ready condition? If this had been pointed out, I'm confused about why it hadn't been treated- if not for me than for another buyer.). CONSUMERS BEWARE - GO TO CARMAX PLEASANTON INSTEAD! Last year, I purchased a Volkswagen Tiguan from CARMAX FREMONT and paid $200 to have the car transferred to the Fremont, CA location. The purchase experience was TERRIBLE. I paid hundreds for a transfer and it took a couple weeks to do. When i finally was able to schedule the appointment they lost the vehicle and spent 1 hr 30min trying to locate it. Then i purchased the vehicle and signing paperwork took over 2 hours to process. Yet their lobby was filled with seemingly available sales people. What I found is that the Fremont location is extremely unorganized and unprofessional. This year, when I went to purchase a new truck, I tried to do so at the CARMAX Fremont and asked that they waive the transfer fee given my previous buying history. Bianca handled the request and she said that her sales manager, Robert Krauss, denied the request to waive the fee. Given my previous terrible experience at the Fremont location, i went to the Pleasanton store to complete the purchase of my truck. I found that Robert Krauss, the sales manager at Fremont Carmax, blacklisted my account so that I could not complete my purchase. This is a terrible way to treat a loyal Carmax customer. Fortunately, the Pleasanton Carmax will be handling my purchase for the new truck but Carmax customer service in the Fremont location really needs to be called out for failing their valued customers. Well, Well, Well....the time has come to upgrade and get alittle more up to "speed" pun kinda intended, I'll explain more on that later. It was time to get me a newer car, my still reliable "Bleu" aka 2001 Honda Civic had served its purpose, but it was time for something new for me. Even pre epidemic (2019), I had made up my mind in 2021 I wanted to buy a car and go into 2022 with a clean slate. I definitely had it all mapped out with what I wanted to be paying a month, what car I wanted and I had set forward a time line as well. Oh and the color. After browsing and searching for a few weeks, I found what I was looking for, I made my appointment and went for my test drive???? I'll even explain the question marks as well. This is my review of "CarMax" Fremont. "CarMax" Location - Fremont, Ca Vehicle - 2018 Hyundai Elantra Sport Price - $21K (Before Taxes) CarMax: I had set up my appointment to view and test drive the vehicle via the mobile app. I browsed some of the nearby locations for the vehicle I wanted and found it at the "Fremont" dealership. I did find the vehicle I wanted with slightly lesser miles at the "Santa Rosa" location, but it would of required a transfer which has a fee attached to that, and a waiting process as well. But this location had the car I wanted and the color I exactly wanted so it was a no brainer for me at the end of the day. I took BART to the location and I was already Pre-approved for a loan so I had things set for my visit. Due to the epidemic, "CarMax" doesn't for the time being do the normal test drive. So you have to purchase the vehicle you want, and you have a 30 day, less than 1500 mile process to see if you like the car. If you do, you keep it. If you don't you could return it for a refund. On my visit, "Henry" was my sales consultant. He did a great job easing me through the process, as this was my first time buying a car from a dealership. He was really helpful and knowledgeable, although I will kinda admit slightly pushy on different features and options I don't really need for my overall purchase, which now is a burden I have to deal with to get some of that changes and or removed. I did check out their financing option vs my credit union, and due to certain terms and limitations, the "CarMax" financing was the surprisingly better option at the end of the day. I worked with "Rose" for the second half of my visit to do the down payment process and paperwork, she was very nice and explained everything nicely for me. At the end of the 5 1/2 hour visit, I was taking a picture with a bow on my new car and headed home in my 2018 Hyundai Elantra Sport 1.6T and the "T" stands for "Turbo" :D Overall: I didn't have huge gripes with "CarMax" as some of the rest of the "Yelpire" have seemed to have with dealing with this location. I do feel like "CarMax" should give the buyer alittle more liberty to choose what dealer options they choose to have with their purchase to not have to deal with the burden later, perhaps a "Grace Period" of comparing and contrasting between similar plans. I purchased my vehicle here and would recommend them, that is of they have what you're looking for. For now I don't see myself buying another car for a little while. We arrived 10 minutes before our appointment, got check in and looked at their inventory while we waited for him to arrive. "When you're early, you're on time. When you're on time, you're late. I made an appointment in advance for a car appraisal as I was planning to sell my suv. I brought my suv to CarMax and had to only wait a few minutes in the lobby area before I went over some details of the car and handed the keys over for the appraisal. They checked the car which was in good condition, inside was still well maintained and it had relatively low miles. However, it was a 2005, so it is an older vehicle so not something they would put in their front lot and was likely to go to auction. The appraisal process took about 40 minutes, and I was offered what I thought was a fair price for the suv. I worked with Henry Wong who was professional and courteous throughout the whole process. He kept me informed as to what was happening and explained what needed to be done for the appraisal. Brittney helped with the paperwork and handed me the bank draft for the car. She was efficient and organized. From start to finish, it took about an hour and half. The lobby has a bunch of leather chairs, a large screen tv, vending machines, coffee, clean restroom and small kid play area. They offer a complimentary Lyft ride in case you didn't have a ride back to work or home. Overall, I had a pleasant experience and would recommend others who want to sell their car and not deal with the hassle of dealing with a private 3rd party to go to CarMax. read more

Save yourself time and frustration and don't go to CarMax. The only good thing is the 30-day return policy. First car I bought, battery kept dying after two weeks. While I was waiting for them to fix it (3 weeks), I found another car that supposedly had a lot of upgrades. Paid to have it transferred, find out it didn't have the majority of the options listed and the brakes squeaked. I'd dealt with the dealer trade-in thing before, and I felt screwed over when I saw cars just like my former car for sale for a whopping $3,000-5,000 more than the dealer had given me for it. Based off that I went to CarMax, primarily just to see what they would offer me. Kelley Blue Book told me my car was worth anywhere from $5,000 as a trade-in to $8,000 via a private seller. At CarMax, I was able to get $5,500 for my car, which I received immediately by check. I cashed the check and used it as part of the down-payment for my new, family-friendly car. My only experience with CarMax is limited, but overall positive. The phone reservation process before and subsequent follow up call and texts were great. When I arrived for my appointment, I didn't have to wait long, and I got what I thought was a fairly fair price for my car. But the one thing I didn't do -- buy a car -- is a big reason reason most people go to CarMax. It's been awhile since I've had to purchase another vehicle and I also have tremendous reservations when talking to salesmen. I chose carmax because I've heard they basically cut through the BS and just get to the point while still being professional. What I got was a buying experience that was so easy going and stress free, if I wasn't staring at a dozen or so cars I'd forget what I came for. Working with Alex was a breeze and we even got to share a few laughs. He made it seem like I was visiting family rather than buying a car. Within a short while Ben brought over the paperwork and after a few signatures Alex handed me the keys to a sweet new ride. The experience didn't stop there though. Within 24 hours I found a nail in one of the rear tires that couldn't be patched David and Chris swooped in to the rescue and after a few calls and a little bit of waiting I was in the road. To simply put it... this overall experience went beyond what I thought car buying should be and sets a precedent on how my future purchases should look like. Made an appointment a day prior for an appraisal and showed up 15 minutes prior to arrival, only to be seated in the lobby waiting for the next available associate. After checking an hour later, we were presented with a sales associate, Dennis, whom was friendly, helpful, and courteous. All associates were in their CarMax uniform including a navy or sometimes even white polo, navy fleece, and name tag! The entire process was seamless, no-haggle, and hassle-free with the actual appraisal taking ~30 minutes or so. Apparently this CarMax is a pilot store where you get a choice of a CarMax offer or a KBB Instant Trade In Value. Even the final paperwork with Myra was seamless, pressure-free, and easy to understand. All in all, we walked out with a bank draft 3.5 hours after arrival! Be sure to bring a snack! ...Perhaps arrive first thing in the morning to be the first in the queue! Online selection was easy. The car we picked looked gorgeous in photos. Getting a person to engage to get car transferred was straightforward. Getting a person to answer the phone to setup the inspection appointment was also easy. But it ends here. We arrived right on time and were told they didnt see our appointment in the system. Waited 30 min for them to "find our car" and finally the car showed. Where should I start... both corners of front bumper badly gashed. All 4 wheels have curb rashes and 1 has missing chunks. How on earth could a car with surround parking sensors and assisted parking have that many gashes? Rear bumper had scratches and a huge dab of 1/4" thick mismatching touchup paint on a 1" x 1/2" ding. Surface of the trunk was badly scratched including another 1" x 1" ding covered with a dab of paint. right rear passenger door and quarter panel had terrible gashes that looked like the car had swiped a fire hydrant or something. Finally DRUM ROLL...THE BEST PART... we popped the trunk and noticed its FLOODED. Top lining soaked and the handle that lifts the bottom liner is filled with water. It's a chargeable hybrid car. It's a miracle the battery didn't short out. I have never seen an $33k, 18k mile BMW abused like that and still have a clean Carfax report.(which I purchased myself, wasted $39) I must say 5 stars to whoever photoshopped the online ad. The 18k miles on the odometer doesn't look right to me. This I can't say for sure but I wouldn't be surprised if the odometer was rolled back using a Lonsdor tool. Update: I can see the car has now been transferred to Irvine waiting for a sucker. read more

Where to begin... Shawn was a gem when dealing with him via email on an inquiry for a vehicle. We set up an appointment with him, but, we weren't able to make it for that time, so we changed it to a later time. He assured us that someone would be assisting us even if he wasn't available. Damon stepped in and assisted us. He was very patient and helpful. The issue is when we got to the finance department. We ran into a couple of snags and we were dealing with a finance associate. However, a lady named Brittney (sp?) apparently she is a business office associate decided to meddle into our business. We were dealing with a finance associate already and Brittney who was on a phone call decided to place the person on hold and stick her nose into our issue. This would have been a better experience had she minded her own business and tended to her own customers or whatever she had to do. I was combing through the purchase agreement with a fine tooth comb since I read previous reviews that people found that terms had been changed. Brittney became very offended when I told her we were taking a very close look at our agreement- mind you- she wasn't even the person helping us. She argued that they never change anything. I told her that I read on Yelp from previous reviewers that this was happening and she became super bitchy and argued with me lol...bad move. For that reason I can only give this place 2 stars. One for Shawn and one for Damon. Come prepared with books, a phone charger or whatever you need to entertain yourself because finance takes fooooooooorever to draft up the paperwork and when you ask the status of it- you guessed it...Britney will respond when you weren't even addressing her lol... COME HERE AT YOUR OWN RISK My boyfriend went to sell his car to them and although he got a decent price for his car compared to competitor prices, service was absolutely horrible the second time he was here. He was already tired from lack of sleep due to work and when he went to give them his car to get appraised again, they never gave him time to grab his stuff from the car after it was sold and done! After waiting a long time, he was able to go to his car to grab his stuff. He noticed that his badge and key (for work) was just in the door pocket without his (Disney-themed) lanyard. If anyone works for an office, you know that once you put your work key and badge on your lanyard you NEVER take that shit off. So, someone had taken the time to intentionally remove the key and badge from the lanyard and pocket the pretty lanyard. He also realized afterwards that one of his new iPhone charging cables was missing from the car after he got all of his stuff. Yes, he should have grabbed everything from his car before he gave it to them but he also never would have thought that someone from CarMax would stoop so low as to steal belongings from someone's car! Needless to say, we will not come here again or support their business and I only wrote this to warn customers who do decide to go here to be very very careful with your belongings and anything else they might pull. Don't go anywhere else if you are trying to sell your car. We just sold our 2021 Honda Pilot SE to the Fremont CarMax and were absolutely amazed at how efficient and professional this place and their staff are. Not only did this place beat all of their competitors' online offers for our car, which was in excellent condition but there was no hassle with their initial offer at all when we showed up for our appointment. After submitting necessary paperwork online and setting up an appointment, we met with our appraiser at 11:55am today and we walked out of there at 12:22pm with a cashier's check in our hands. Kem was thorough and trustworthy and we were happy to have walked out of there in less than 30 minutes! Highly recommend this place! read more

He has a very welcoming vibe & went into great details to help me with my car that I had purchased. He's very thorough with the paperworks. I felt very safe making a purchase with him. We had a positive buying experience with CarMax a few years ago and were getting ready to sell our other car privately but decided to check out the CarMax online buy estimate. It took less than a minute to enter information and get an estimate. I was honest about the condition of the car and history so as to get an accurate as possible estimate. I was happy with the price they quoted online and went to the Fremont location in the morning. The whole process from beginning to end was very impressive. I gave the estimate verification code at the front desk, keys and the title so they could run their checks on it while the tech went over the car. He came back and then I was presented with a printed estimate and it was the same as online so accepted it. Next they processed the paperwork including DMV, we signed everything over and walked away with the bank draft. We have sold or traded in cars many times and this was by far the best experience ever! The service from CarMax Fremont was great and the whole transaction was smooth. I couldn't recommended then any higher. Would give them bonus stars if possible! read more

My bf and I came here on Sunday to check out a few cars that we were interested in and we ended up leaving after waiting 40+ minutes. Our appointment was at 11:30 and apparently the person we were suppose to talk to cancelled so they were trying to set us up with someone else, but they didn't even notify us about these changes. When it was 12:15 ish, my bf went up and asked and that was when they told us about the changes.. What annoyed me was that while we were waiting for our appointment, a girl walks in and got helped right away.... Like...what? That makes no sense.. It's not a big deal, but this was our first experience with CarMax... We're most likely not coming back to this location. The workers need to be more aware of their customers and give priority to the ones who've been waiting vs. someone who jus walked in. read more
