Make sure you setup an appointment so they can make you wait 40 minutes while three employees are huddled around a computer. Someone finally helped me after I had to ask if anyone was going to assist me with my appointment. My license expired so I had to renew online, and due to COVID DMV isn't allowing appointments. I printed out the paperwork the CA DMV provided me online. I even called before hand to make sure it was sufficient and I was told it was. I've now wasted over an hour after a 12 hour workday. I normally don't even bother with negative reviews on here because things happen but this whole experience was totally unacceptable. While they claim to have a clean process, unfortunately the people working at this location are incompetent. A bunch of kids who know nothing about how DMV works. They made me wait for 90 min when I went to sell my car and then claimed that they cannot work with Honda Leasing so I have to payoff the lease, get the title and then come back. They could have told me this upfront and not after I spent 90 min on a weekday just waiting. Anyway, I made the payoff, and expedited the title since the CarMax offer was good for 1 week only. I go back after 4 days and then they say that the title is not acceptable and that I have to get another one from DMV without the Honda name on it. So now I have to pay sales tax on a car I will never own. DMV allows you to reassign title within 10 days so only the final owner pays the sales tax. But CarMax cannot deal with this. While that may be their issue, they should at min be explaining this upfront. I paid off a car early for no reason due to their staff being incompetent. Be very careful with CarMax folks since they don't know their job and as in my case will just provide lip service at the end and you are left with a situation to deal with. read more

I went here to sell my car. I've been to Carmax before, usually to thinking I'm going to get a "backup" offer in case the dealership tries to low ball me. It's turned out that a couple of times they've had the best offer and I've sold them a car, once at this location and once at another. That would earn them a decent four star review. My most recent experience at this location was truly five star. The whole process the day of the sale was effortless and professional. They kept me informed every step of the process, from the appraisal through dealing with the business office. We completed the paperwork including paying off my current loan and I walked out with a check. They even arranged a Lyft to the BART station. The process went so quickly I hurried up and forgot to change out the all weather floor mats I had in the car with the carpeted manufacturer floor mats that came with the car. I had never used the carpeted mats and I planned to put the all weather floor mats in my new car, which is just a newer version of the one I was selling. Too me it would be a win win, but I figured it was going to be a pain to try and switch these out after the sale. It was the complete opposite! I went back the next day not expecting much. One of the buyers, Nick, let me switch out the mats and do a last minute look over the car. This allowed me to clear out my garage door and cellphone settings stored in the car. That's service above and beyond what I was expecting and made me feel even better about my transaction! Had a good experience getting the car but a very poor experience when it came to getting my car serviced. I made an appointment to get my car serviced and got it for a Saturday. I was glad to get an appointment so quickly. I showed up for my appointment, went to the business center to check in and they looked at me like I was crazy! Rude. Strike one! Then I showed them my email confirmation. They proceeded to tell me that there is no servicing on Saturdays and I would have to come back. Really? They also said I could do drop off but that they don't recommend it. Really?! On top of that, I was going out of state and needed to get my car serviced before I shipped it. They asked me how I booked my appointment as if I booked it off a 3rd party, mysterious site. Really?! How would that be possible unless your system was breached?! I booked it online, through the app. I was "helped", not really, NOT HELPED by two ladies. One of which, Lucero, actually helped me finalize the sale of my car. Pretty disappointed to get polar opposite customer experience from her and disrespect from her and her associate. They also quickly moved on and didn't even budge to go look up my account and then one of them told me I couldn't "service" my car. Really?! No customer care whatsoever. One of them also repeated herself in a condescending manner when I simply asked a yes/no question: So, you're telling me I have to come The other option is to call. How is that the process when Carmax does everything online including booking appointments to test drive and buy cars. Really? Get your tech together, Carmax. One of them even gave me that ridiculous, off-responsibility excuse: "that's a different department, so..." Really?! I've worked in customer service and it's appalling how bad their service was. It was completely non-existent. Rude! They also gave me incorrect information which the manager corrected. They told me the wrong service center hours. Well, then can you get me someone that knows about it, that can actually help me? Absolutely useless! I then asked for the manager and he was very nice. I believe his name was Glenn. He's the Sales Lead too. He apologized for the misinformation and system failure. He actually listened to me and gave the He explained things well. He even gave me a card with the direct line plus option for the service center. I came back for a follow up question about maxcare and he let me know that the maxcare covers more major things like suspension, engine failure, etc. It doesn't cover routine maintenance service which is what I needed. He listened, asked me what service I came in for and was able to figure out that all I needed was an oil change and recommended Jiffy Lube. THANK YOU! Wow! Thank God! Someone who knows what they're talking about, is kind, and caring. Please give that man a HUGE RAISE! In fact, he's too good to just be working at the dealership. He should be in corporate, like Director level! Thank God for the manager, Glenn I believe was his name. Very nice, actually listened to me, was attentive, was so respectful and kind and answered all of my questions. He was the most knowledgeable out of everyone and truly cared. He even offered to get my gas filled up for the inconvenience. My car was already full, but I so appreciated his offer. Decent experience while selling the car. But please beware. As an authorized buyer Carmax is supposed to transfer the title to themselves and when they sell the car - hopefully sell it to some with proof of insurance and check and update their records accurately. Its pretty basic. However it appears that Carmax did not do this. We sold a car to Carmax in June and the car had an accident a month later. One would imagine that Carmax or someone they sold the car to would be the new owner - correct? Not quite. Apparently the records were not updated accurately. As a result we have received notices from insurance companies and debt collection for collections for a car that is not in our possession. When we call Carmax their business office extension keeps ringing - so it is a farce. Basically they have a business office that no-one answers and sales redirects us to the business office. We are not car people - last bought a car 20 years ago. After tons of time figuring out what car we wanted decided to take a brief visit to Carmax Fremont just to look. What a GREAT experience! We were greeted upon arrival by a really nice young man that signed us in. He then turned us over to Beryl! What a kind professional! She told us where the cars we were looking for were on the lot and then allowed us to go out and look around at our leisure. NO PRESSURE! We found what we wanted at an amazing price - perfect for our budget. We had to wait a day as the battery needed to be replaced but not a problem! Went back for a test drive and sealed the deal. I had a mustang transferred to the Fremont location from another car max location. They told me to bring my license and proof of insurance. upon arrival, when I asked if i could do the 24 hr test drive, the sales advisor or who ever was helping me was ranting about we don't test drives on mustangs and camaros because we had them stolen in the past. I told him I have purchased and paid off a car here already. lol He then proceeds to look up the details if we could do a test drive and it says we could. He then asked me "why do you want it for 24 hours?" dumbest question ever; i replied why not ? im planning on purchasing the car why not ? He made it seemed like I was going to steal the car lol. I told him i have good credit and a just got approved for an auto loan at around 2%. I don't understand how can you not know, if you can allow a customer or "previous" customer with all their information in your system whether or not you can test drive a car. So he asked for my proof of insurance and my driver's license which i bought because that was what i was told to bring over the phone with someone not sure who. He then says I need an insurance paper with my coverage and deductible amount which I didn't have because they didn't tell me bring which is ridiculously because who carries that lol. I'm glad that the deal didn't go through. if you search cars on cargurus, whoever does the pricing at carmax will show that their prices is marked up by like 2-3k in comparison to other dealerships. anyways long story short; i bought the car elsewhere. just got it compression tested yesterday and it's passed. here's a picture i hope the district manager reads this review and restructure how they streamline their process on how a customer purchases a car. WOAH!!!! No one ever told me, I mean who pays attention to commercials... CarMax really is no hassle way to buy a vehicle new/used. I came in knowing what features I wanted, explored the grounds and narrowed down my choices... then I walked up to the check-in area and added my name to the list when I was ready to add an associate to the process. Syed is phenomenal!!!! I would never use another rep ever. I am not sure how someone so young can be so professional, relate-able, knowledgeable, and peaceful all wrapped into one person. I can not say enough about how marvelous he was and how fantastically smooth he made this entire process. Just like finding a doctor, dentist etc.. you need to find the right associate for you. If you are unhappy ask politely for another person - we literally live in the age of choice, so be your own advocate and create your own car buying experience. If you leave unsatisfied the only person you should be upset with is yourself. Needless to say, I am over the moon with the entire experience. I highly recommend utilizing CarMax. My only critique is that I wish the Business Office rep I was dealing with had made a quick appearance - Otis. My mom purchased this car from carmax in Fremont CA. We took a roadie trip to Nevada and the car broke down. Had it towed to carmax in Henderson NV, since that was the closest Carmax to us spoke to one of the sales managers there on a Saturday, August 13 and they said they'll have somebody look at it on Monday which was going to be August 15. Nobody never looked at the car Tuesday on August 16 steel nobody had lookeat the car that morning reached out to Carmax and ask them. Hey have you had a chance to look at it they said that they were having a hard time getting the car in there and that they will give me a call at the end of business day, Belinda in service she calls me and say we have some bad news the engine is and we can go ahead and fix the car or we can see what we do to get you another one. My mom says we'll go ahead and just fix the car OK so in the process of them fixing the car they had it from August 13 all the way up until September 12 almost a month they had told me that the engine had came in two weeks before and said that the car will be ready on Labor Day. OK my mom was more than patient with Carmaxx pick the car up for my mother on September 12 around 330. Had to return the car by 6:45 in the afternoon, the car would not go over 20 mph. It was shaking it was steel stuttering and now they are posting the same car where the engine just blew up on their website as coming soon when they need to do a thorough inspection of that vehicle, and make sure that car is actually drivable at the end of the day Carmax handling this situation has been very frustrating and time-consuming. My mom return to California and Carmax in Fremont issued my mom a check and because they've been doing fraudulent activity with the account that they've been writing checks from to the consumers. The check has been on hold since Tuesday, September 13 , my mom's down payment is still on hold and here it is Friday, September 16 reached out to corporate office. I have been playing around with the idea of trading in our lifted crew cab 4x4 silverado in excellent condition with low miles for a more economical vehicle. We already have a new AWD Hyundai we just purchased for my fiance and I have my 1500cc cruiser we bought two years ago. We just wanted to see what we could get for a trade in. We did our homework beforehand, checked KBB and NADA and also had the vehicle inspected and smogged. With all of the options, lift kit, tow package, premium sound, low miles, full intake system, subs and amps the appraisal was about $28k retail ( $16k - $18k trade-in). We brought the truck to the Fremont Carmax to be inspected and while they where doing that we checked their lot. After 30 mins they came back with an offer for $13k and stated the truck was in impeccable condition but that there was damage to the front driver side quarter panel. We both refused the offer and went outside to inspect the truck to make sure they did not damage the quarter panel themselves This truck sits in a garage or on our driveway most of its time with us. This morning I brought the truck over to a mechanic friend who inspected it himself and found zero issue with either of the front quarter panels. I would recommend at least staying far from the Fremont division of Carmax. We had our qualms when we entered because their entire staff looks and acts like high school teenagers. This does not look like a professional business by any means. Customers sit while employees laugh and congregate. If you are looking for a professional setting where adults can conduct business in a fair manner, look elsewhere. read more

Selling a 96 accord lx for 400 dollars was suppose to take 45 minutes ended up taking more than 3.5 hours. The staff is polite but clueless on what the status of your car post inspection. One department blames another and keep telling you 30 mins each time you ask and somehow this turns into 3 hours later. CarMax says they are a progressive dealership, but they use old traditional delay tactics to increase your sunk time cost. Be prepared to leave for lunch and errands and come back hours later. To their credit, they are polite and did finally acknowledged their mistake after repeatedly pointing it out and calling them out on their mistakes. read more

I would recommend if you are having your vehicle appraised at this location. Be at your vehicle when they are evaluating the vehicle. Otherwise you could end up in my situation. When I was presented an offer For my vehicleI I was asked how long have I had an issue with the sunroof. I had never had any issue. So another employee walked me out to the vehicle and the rear interior cover for the panoramic sunroof was not closing. So the employee gave me the number for his manager and asked me to call back Monday.He explained they had to operate the sunroof part of the appraisal inspection and not to worry they would work it out with me. So I called Monday afternoon, the number was not the manager direct line that I had asked for. It was for there call center. After 45 minutes I spoke the sales manager. I explained the situation and she tried to tell me the only look at the buttons and didn't operate the sunroof. I called her out and said that's untrue. She informed me that she has to talk to the employees, that I had inner action with and she would call back. 3 days later I call and was told I would get a call back. I still have not heard back from anyone that works at CarMax. Have been lied to several times from the employees. So beware they will lie and not take Any responsibility on something this small, just think what Will happen when it's a very serious issue. When the manager will not follow through and do what she said. The rest of the employees will follow the example. I feel they should have brought me right out to the vehicle when the failure occurred it would not look like you are hiding something from your customer. I will update the post as up go up the ladder to see if anyone has the common courtesy to return a phone call. My experience is that they lie and no consideration for customers. Yeah, that didn't go well. I messaged them via their website asking a very specific question about a very specific warranty on a car that I referred to by make, model, and VIN number. No response. So I was in the neighborhood and stopped in. Waiting at the front desk to "check-in", I suppose it's called, I was greeted by an associate who essentially told me that I need to wait to check-in... which felt oddly redundant, but whatever. Associate they matched me with had trouble finding the car, walked around in circles, I finally spotted it and even then had to reassure him that it was the right one. He didn't really know anything about the car, just stood there as I checked it out. I asked for a test drive, waited five minutes for him to take my license and make a copy (standard operating procedure for any dealer), and we were off. Except he couldn't get the gate to open. And then he couldn't get anyone on the phone to open it. Then his manager (I think) came out and couldn't get it to open. They took it around back to "add a tag" to it which would allow them to get the car out. It took them 20 minutes, while we stood there twiddling our thumbs. FINALLY went out to test drive, and the salesman sat in the back, texting people on his phone the whole time. I asked a question about the warranty (again), and got a vague answer that was less information than written in their flyers. Got back to the dealership, parked it, and he just asked if I wanted it. I said I'd need to "sleep on it", and that the warranty price/details would matter. Still didn't get an answer. He said that someone else was waiting to test drive it, that he had to go now, get it to them. And off he went. My friend and I were pretty hot by this time, but I walked over to the side lot three minutes later to kill time looking at a Mustang GT while my friend figured out our dinner plans... only to see the salesman pulling the car back into the lot and parking it where we got it (nobody apparently waiting to test drive it?). Just super weak. I was still considering the car, but after that... just... no. Driving up to Concord to look at a similar one in about an hour... Oh, and I still haven't gotten an answer about the warranty from the message I sent them, now two days ago. read more

When I took delivery of the vehicle, they sold me another vehicle. I said I didn't want it. But they still said that I can return it within 30 days without any charge. I had such high hopes for CarMax because I see their billboards everywhere plus they're always advertising on tv as well. I came to CarMax with the intent on getting a quote for my vehicle and hoping to trade it in here as well. My boyfriend and I were greeted and asked to sit in the waiting area for an agent to become available which we did. Roughly 10 minutes later, I gave the agent a summary of my vehicles history. Shortly thereafter, my car keys were given to an appraiser so that he could take a closer look at my vehicle. We were told this process wouldn't take long and were encouraged to view their inventory cars during our wait. After looking at cars for more than 30 minutes, we headed back inside and waited to be called on. More than 30 additional minutes passed before our offer letter was extended to us. I was stunned to see that my vehicles appraisal was much lower than I'd anticipated. The agent acknowledged that my vehicle was indeed worth more money but at their specific location, trucks were selling better than sedans. I understand this is a business and that's just the way things go but waiting over an hour for a low ball appraisal is just ridiculous. I took my vehicle to 3 other dealerships in which my offer was doubled. If you have a truck, go to CarMax and if not.. don't waste your time. read more

My husband bought a car 2 weeks ago and we still having big issue with the car from the day we bought it I believe we got scammed!! by this company it is a big name with no value for customers the car we bought was BMW x3 it has damages due to rodents so what happened that whenever we start the car and get ready to move the engine get overheated so we called CARMAX right away to figure out what they can do so they denied and told us that they tried the car and it's okay and if you insist you can take your car to BMW company and get an official report with the damage based on this we can help you through... so we did and take it to BMW who charged us $265 for the inspection we got the detailed report with the damage that shows, that to fix this damage it would cost $16000 for a car that i bought for $13500! We called carmax and send them the report as they requested and the response was that they took the decision that they cannot help us and they won't cover this issue or even take the car back. This company is unreliable and non respectable... anyone want to buy from them is taking high risk with his time and money based on that bad experience for me and someone close to me too go inspect the car carefully before taking a decision to buy from those scammers! read more
