I purchased a vehicle from CarMax years ago so, when I saw a 2016 Mercedes Benz E 350 that I wanted, I decided to return to Car Max to make another purchase. CarMax had an Uber to come pick me up the day I was to pick up my car that I purchased. When I arrived at CarMax my car wasn't ready and I waited for about an 1 1/2 before the service manager Ms. Keisha finally told me that there was a problem with my vehicles brakes. My car was ready to following day and I had to take it back the next week because I had 2 bad tires that needed to be replaced. CarMax replace the 2 tires and now the change oil service notification (A1 service notification) is 75 days past due. This notification was not on when I picked up the vehicle and it came on 2 days after I picked it up after getting the tires replaced. I took it today to get the oil changed paying for it myself because I don't want to deal with Car Max anymore. read more

Let me tell you about my experience. I picked out a car. I received the purchasing order. I sent to my bank for financing. Was approved for financing. Sent back to dealership. And they deleted sell. And then try to replace my vehicle with a different one I did not choose. I had to speak to no less than 20 people spent two days on the phone to correct their mistake. Now I have to wait two extra days for a car that I have paid for through my bank because they are unable to do their job. Customer service is nonexistent. They are rude and unprofessional. You would think they would go out of their way to make this right but no they couldn't care less about the customer. Do not buy from them. read more

I took my car in for a free oil change (I received several free because of all the issues I've had with my vehicle and customer service since I purchased my car) on Tuesday 08/09. I was pleased because I did not have an appointment and they were able to get me in at 7:30 and I was out and on my way to work by 8:10. Yesterday on the way home, a rainstorm began. I went to turn my wipers on, they turned on BUT THERE WERE NO WIPERS ATTACHED! I checked the ticket that I received from Carmax and it clearly said my wipers were inspected. I called the service manager who told me that wouldn't have happened at their store, he doesn't know why they would have removed them without telling anyone and that I park in public places so it may have happened elsewhere. I called Corporate (I should have been doing this since February but I trusted the store a little too much) and was told I was being too emotional and they were very sorry this happened to me. I was all set to give this place at least 4 stars. I had a good experience with my sales person who was very customer service friendly. Or so I thought.... I fully admit that I should have looked over the car a lot better than I did. When I test drove it, the visor was down which made sense, it was sunny outside. But when I got in the car again after signing all the documents and was ready to pull off, I lifted the visor and saw that there was a crack in the windshield. I went to get my sales person and he told me they had repaired it so that the crack wouldn't spread since it's cheaper than replacing the whole thing. Fine. I get that. But I'm just pissed this wasn't disclosed to me in some way (or reflected in the price) BEFORE I bought the thing. I've only heard positive things from friends who have bought and sold at CarMax. After having a bad experience at Honda of Clear Lake (see review for them LOL), I went over to CarMax to find a car for my son. Our salesperson, Amberlee, was so sweet and very helpful! I told her what I wanted to spend and she gave us 2 different options that fit our price range. While that may not be a lot of options to most people, it was fine for us as we needed to get something quick since my son had just totaled his car 2 days before. With any car buying experience, the entire process takes a little time (even if paying with cash, as I was), but everyone was so pleasant! I ended up getting my son a little Nissan for just under $10k. I like that CarMax does a through inspection of all of their vehicles, even offering a 5 day, no questions asked return policy and a limited 30 day guarantee. This is my first time ever writing a negative review for something. The services department at this location is deplorable. This location sold us a car with the wrong size brake pads, which started squeaking and providing resistance to the rear axle. My local mechanic informed us about the problem after we brought it in concerned about the noise.Apparently their "150 point inspection" doesn't include checking out the brakes. After leaving messages for management that weren't returned for days, they repeated like a broken record that brakes aren't covered in the warranty, and that the earliest they could make their own "visual inspection" of the problem would be a month later... by that time, the problem would be much more serious since the resistance is causing the brakes to overheat. Lesson learned, be sure to bring your car to a mechanic immediately after buying from these guys, because once it's out it would take an act of God to get them to do anything for you. read more

Although Mike Anderson from the buying/ appraisal department was exceptional, the guy he directed to help me was condescending and short. Synopsis: Carmax ran my credit under false pretense, they let me drive off the lot with a vehicle that had a bad ABS system and bad mechanical brake components, they lied about doing a second 125pt inspection, and clearly didn't do the first one, and they are not proficient in the diagnostic or resolution of mechanical issues. They are not a no hassle car buying experience, you have to maintain high involvement in the process of buying and servicing your vehicle with them. Someone could have gotten seriously hurt purchasing this vehicle. I would like to premise this review, that I work in the tire industry for a multi-national warehouse that may be known for having the best member service in the industry, so I have mechanical literacy. I also attend school full time and work full time, so my money and time is very precious to me, as large financial decisions almost always put me on the brink of financial death. When I first started using Carmax to look for cars, I was decently surprised by all of their offerings, and specifically a beautiful Mini Cooper S Clubman from 2010. The car was in Virginia and I currently live in Houston, so I called to make an inquiry on the vehicle. This is where the first major issue occurred. On the phone call I asked for the monthly payment with a given amount of money down, for the price of the vehicle, tax, title, *shipping*, and *all associated fees*. The gentleman(Marquis) on the phone proceeded to input all of the numbers in his system and asked for authorization to run my credit. Upon approval for the vehicle with all my desired terms, the associate then asked for my credit card number. Confused, I asked why this was necessary, his response: for the shipping. He did not clarify that this fee was separate, and I thought nothing of it, I thought I just couldn't get the vehicle I was fixated on. A couple hours later I realized they ran my credit under false pretenses and I called into the call center to state this. The gentleman offered to waive the shipping fee upon the review of the call. After 4 days of calling back I finally spoke to a manager named Ron, who just conceded the shipping fee because I had been blown off so many times, but the car was put on hold during that time. Luckily the next day the car was back on the market. Finally the Mini was on its way to me. Upon its arrival, Carmax Gulf Freeway had told me that they were going to do a 125 point inspection for the second time and that they would expedite this process as the car I was currently driving at the time died. I went to test drive the vehicle, it was raining that day and the abs light came on. I thought this was the vehicle telling me that the system was in action, however I have only driven Japanese vehicles, and did not understand the German indication light scheme. In fact, the system had failed and the brakes on the vehicle were bad, slipping in fact . Upon talking to two AES certified mechanics about the issue, they told me that this was illegal on Carmax's part, and Carmax ended up replacing the wheel speed sensor, all pads, and rotors. It was very clear at this point that they did not take their inspections seriously, as this would have been very apparent upon a code reading. Next issue arises after only having my vehicle for 5 days, code p2188 pops up, indicating that bank 1 is running rich at idle and/or deceleration. No codes appeared stating that the o2 sensor had a bad heating circuit or failure but the techs determined that this was the issue, and I myself took issue with this diagnostic, outlining reasons as to why this wouldn't fix the issue. Not even 20mi out of service the car through the check engine light again, and upon my next interaction with the service adviser I had learned that in fact a 2nd 125pt inspection never did occur, which was not surprising. Carmax advertises a no hassle car buying experience, and not outlined in this review are the hours spent on the phone trying to maintain communication, and the numerous different responses related to their policies. read more

They gave us the run around horrible customer service they said they found financing for us they gave us the terms of the financing then when we call back regarding the paperwork that we uploaded no one could find the financing under our name nor will they able to determine which vehicle because they have 2 vehicles on holds for 2 separate applications this is supposed to be a joint account for my self and my husband supposed to be co-applicant and not too separate cars were only asking to finance one vehicle.. I tried contacting Victoria Howell she was the representive that helped us she never returned our phone calls or our emails when we spoke with another rep he sent out a text message too her as well she never responded, she never called this back I think that's a poor representation of the company and poor service by her very I felt disregarded, disappointed and will never do service with them again read more

Then I had to take it in to get the windshield replaced, when I picked it up the seats, dash, floor and console were full of broken glass not to mention I can hear a noise from the newly installed windshield. read more

However each time I visited the dealership she was walking around without a customer. I feel she was either not aware of company policies or used that excuse when not wanting to actually preform customer service. I had her transfer a car from Baton Rouge to here upon having approved financing effective the 15th of the month and waited until the 28th before she had everything sorted out for pick up. My car buying experience was horrible. Trying to buy the car was somewhat positive with the exciting salesman, but when I needed to return the car during the last couple hours before the 7 days guaranteed, my salesman vanished on me. I called him and told him I was returning the car, the reasoning why, as well as I was coming from 35 miles away. He told me sure, bring it in and when I called him back to tell him I'm on my way, then later of my delay of the ETA, he would not pick up his phone, when calling CarMax to Page him, I was just placed on hold. I called him numerous times and he refused to pick up my calls. I didn't make it before they closed the gate, so I went home disappointed. I called the salesperson the next day, no answer and when I finally reached my salesperson and asked him what happened, he told me he went home early (after he was aware that I was on my way). When I finally caught up with him two days, I told him how wrong he was to disappeared and not answer my calls when he knew I wanted to return my car. He put me on hold for 15 minutes told me his manager told him, I must keep the car because it's after the 7-day return period. I waited another 10 minutes to speak with his manager, and the manager said, it's nothing he could do, I pleaded for 10 minutes with no avail, the manager still said, the policy is policy and the CarMax has already incurred registration cost and other additional costs. I offered to pay all cost incurred by CarMax even the salesman commission and the manager repeated 'No', we are not taking the car back. So I was mentally crushed again, the store manager told me he would have the area manager to give me a call on Monday morning and as of today no call. I am very perplexed over the games that were played on me to not take a car back. Guaranteed or not, it's a think of "Good Faith" and customer satisfaction. Any intelligent person knows what a guaranteed is and the difference in working in good faith. CarMax with their Prestine Image failed the trusting consumer. An old friend advised that I check out CarMax the next time I decided to buy and sell another vehicle. So I did and long story short, it was my first and last time. I went in for an appraisal and was low balled so badly that I was actually offended. The sales associate was very nice and courteous (he's the only reason I gave 2 stars) but those appraisers are kindergarten/basic. The very next day I took the same vehicle to an Infiniti dealership and received $3,000 more than the appraisal from CarMax. I also bought a new sweet ride from them too. We purchased our car on a Saturday and went out that evening and while heading home we smelled gas..we pulled over on the feeder of the beltway at 10 pm and come to find out it was a major gas leak..they towed our Charger to CarMax and since it was Saturday we had to wait until they opened Monday morning. We went in and Damion was the gentleman that we dealt with through that process he took great care of us..they had a loaner car ready for us when we go there and he went above and beyond taking car of us and keeping us updated daily on the status of the car..this was the 3rd vehicle that we had gotten from them and we have never had an issue but the fact that they took care of us doing this time is very much appreciated.. read more

Dealing with this location was my worst car buying experience ever. I filled out a pre-qualification application online. Soon after a sales rep called me (Dianoh Wells) around 11am, she suggested I look at a vehicle for an amount closer to my prequel amount. She then proceeded to tell me that location was short staffed, it was a busy Saturday and she had several customers to tend to so I needed to look at their inventory and call her back. We discussed that she would text me her number and that would be the easiest way to communicate. I texted her a stock# of another vehicle I found as well as asked her about the stock# of a vehicle that she suggested. Dianoh told me all the cars are online just go look when I expressed I could find it she told me well I told you it was busy today and I don't sit in front of the computer and I'm with a customer. She asked if she could call me back in 10 minutes. It was 3 hours before she called me back 5 consecutive times but only because I communicated that I wanted to work with someone else. I called and asked to work with someone else and I hear Dianoh in the background laughing, talking cursing and when the gentleman let her know I was on the phone she then had time to call me. I decided to keep working with her we ran a credit app on a vehicle and she told me the finance company wanted more down that I had originally stated. All the while talking to she she's talking to and helping another customer. I asked a question about the percentage rate and she why does that matter if you're now putting down the down payment they're requesting. I never said that I wasn't she assumed. Then proceeded to tell me she was about to close her 3rd sale of the day and if I had the down payment required or a co-signer go ahead and come to the dealership if not call her back when I had my money she had customers in her face. My issue is why call me if you were busy. I ended up going to another location where I was treated like a customer not just a commission and the rep was able to put me in the vehicle I wanted with the down payment I had wanted to pay. The car buying experience was fantastic! We traded in my current car and received an offer more than Kelley Blue Book. The whole buying experience was great. The only reason I give it 4 instead of 5 stars was I had to turn the car in a few days later to fix a squeaky window and the auto start fob was hit and miss. They gave me a loaner for which I am grateful as it took them 6 days to figure out that the window squeaked due to sticker and adhesive on the window. The fobs were not broken, just user error. This is the second time I have purchased a car from CarMax and I will always make them my first choice for car buying in the future. read more
