After paying to get a car shipped from a different location we were told we couldn't finish the sale because of a title issue. We weren't told what the issue was or what the time line would be and a rude sales person after 3 weeks of calling for updates told us it could be months before it was resolved. We escalated and finally were put in touch with a sales manager who said we would have an answer by Tuesday but after calling 3 more times we were told they sold the car out from under us to a different location after waiting for a full month. We tried to discuss getting a similar make and model from a different store but they expect us to pay 2/3s of the shipping on top of everything else. Extremely unprofessional. Purchased a truck with extended warranty. The truck was fine the 1st 30 days. I had to go out of state for 6 months and the troubles began. The truck had to be taken to the shop no less than 6 times for the same problem. It came to the point where I now I had to come out of pocket for the $250.00 deductible. I drove the truck back to Texas after the last repair. Once back in Texans the truck engine light came on and the truck completely stopped. After a few minutes the truck restarted and I made it home. The mounting deductibles and the unreliability of the truck I voluntarily turned it back to CarMax due to the excessive repairs , mounting deductibles and the unreliability of the truck. Of course I expected to take a credit hit, however, after reaching a settlement on the balance of the payoff, I was still taking negative hits on my credit report monthly. I used to love CarMax, but I'll never buy there again. The N. Freeway online salesman tried to add the stupid $400 "window tint" fee on my contract. I told him to take it off and I'll consider buying it. A week later, I agreed to buy the car at the "new reduced rate," and the he brought me a contract with the $400 fee still there and the former, higher price on it. I decided to sell it with 228,000 miles. I had looked into Carmax a year ago, and they were offering $400. This year, I got it for much more than that. If you're looking into selling your vehicle, fill out the online application. It's a little lengthy but thorough enough to give them a good idea on the value of your vehicle. It asks anything from what features it has (inside and outside/cosmetic) to what's broken or if it's been in any accidents. You get an offer right away, and you get 7 days to bring it in to be inspected. I took it on the last day and didn't make an appointment. I went after work. I had just purchased a vehicle somewhere else over the weekend. When you walk in, scan the QR code to find your offer. Complete it then check in at the Business Center. They will eventually get your keys, do an inspection that takes about 30 minutes, and give you an offer. They honored what they told me online, so I was happy. If you decide to take the deal, you wait a little more, and they ask you to pull your vehicle up to the service center. They give you your license plates and remove the registration sticker. Then, you wait even more, and you sign your title, and they make you a copy of all the documents plus give you a check. The whole process took about 3 hours, so be prepared to wait. There's a Kid's Corner to entertain the kids and vending machines for snacks. Everyone seemed friendly, and like I did, you can chat with others waiting in the waiting area. read more

There is NO communication with this service department, the advisors that is. I had a great experience at Katy location, but again wanted to give them another chance. Within my 90 days and wanted them to repair what my pre inspection showed. Not only did they say they could not find the same conclusion but kept my car over night without my permission!!!!!!!!! I am very upset with the way this store treated my grandmother, we started the offer online and was happy with it, we then setup an appointment with the store and went on in to start the process. We were approached by an employee named Hamed. That's where the whole process started going downwards. First he was already rude saying that their offer that they gave us online is already wrong, and tried to tell us it's only half of what was given to us, we then asked him, can you please complete the inspections instead of telling us this, you need to go verify everything before you start telling me a price. Then he made us wait over one hour, even after we had an appointment set up, if that's the case then why is there a need to set an appointment when you still have to go in and wait over that long. Then he came back and stated we cannot verify the mileage on the car because the odometer wasn't showing, so I politely asked him, isn't there a way to verify the mileage through your computers? Since you guys scan the vehicle for your so called "inspections" He then got very rude and told me "I don't need to do that" I proceeded to tell him he didn't have to be so rude, that I wasn't telling him to do it, I was asking him to do it. He then replied and said "you know what, go and take your garbage and get it out of there" I'm sorry but you do not talk to my grandmother like that, that employee should be FIRED. Why does he talk to people as if they are under him ? This is not right at all, I have called John Crawford the sales manager at this location and let him know of this issue, and I am awaiting a call back from him. I will be reporting this to corporate as this man disrespected an elderly woman and called her belongings garbage. I was so mad that we left the store without saying anything because we decided to be a bigger person and not cause a scene at the store. My only complaint is the car could have been detailed better as well as the sales people don't typically know specific details on the individual cars like a dealership would because they have so many. I got a flat tire and tried to change it myself, as usual. To my surprise.. the lug wrench provided with the vehicle does NOT fit. I call roadside assistance and pay $100 to change the tire. Then roadside assistance tells me the spare tire does NOT fit. So both the spare and lug wrench provided with the car are useless. I lost $300 today because of CarMax. BUY SOMEWHERE ELSE! read more

Jan 10.25 Took my car back to Carmax. Sync module was replaced. However, the bad taste remains. Carmax this experience remains disappointing. Jan 1.25 I have bought 6 cars from Carmax on the North freeway, last one on Dec 6th. Never did I have to take one back. All good things end though. CARMAX SERVICE on the NORTH FREEWAY is the WORST. Well, they are very good with glue if you give them 5 days. Took my C-Max in because there was interior and exterior door trim that needed to be reattached, the headlights needed to be looked at, and the sync module in the entertainment system needed to be upgraded or replaced. So, I thought my car had been through a 125 point inspection. Guess, that doesn't include looking at the door trim and checking out the entertainment system though, hmmmm? But, I digress. Anyway, they had my car for 5 days and told me stories about how the sync module needed to be replaced, how it had been ordered, that the sync module was being delivered, and now they needed another day to install it (with a surprise twist, a new entertainment system too). Well..... like I said, they did a real good job with the glue and got the door trim reattached, both inside and out. Just amazing! In case you weren't sure, NO, I did NOT get a new sync module. I have all the SAME electronic problems I rolled into the service dept. with on Dec 26. read more

Another great CarMax experience for me! So easy peasy to do a trade in and everyone was so friendly and polite. It took over 3 hours though and that was my only complaint but I'd guess it would take equally as long if not longer at a regular dealer. They explained everything thoroughly and well. And they really have done an amazing job with COVID precautions. I was allowed to test drive a car myself and felt safe the entire time. I was even allowed to to do a signing exception so I could surprise my husband with an early Christmas gift! They even let me borrow a bow! This is ridiculous and each time it's been in the shop they have had to ship it out to a Nissan dealer, and it takes at least two weeks, I'm so frustrated and disappointed, and feeling like I chose the wrong dealership to make my 10th car purchase. I then went to the CarMax that my vehicle was supposed to be at and asked for the service manager to see if they had any idea where my car could be. They then walked me outside and told me JUST MY CAR HAD BEEN STOLEN FROM THEIR LOT WHILE IN THEIR POSSESSION BUT IT WAS NOT THEIR RESPONSIBILITY. I was in shock and instantly had a panic attack. Thank god my mom was there because know one else came back to check on me or to help with the next steps. I did not understand how only my car while being serviced with CARMAX SERVICE CENTER WAS STOLEN and it is NOT their responsibility. Then they told my mom not to call the police or my insurance company while we were there, they told her to wait until we we're home. Instantly there was some suspicion and thought that was not right at all. So, I called the police and my insurance company while being at Carmax because now I believe it was an INSIDE JOB. Today is the 8th and I still do not have my vehicle back in my possession. I am sick and tired of how carmax has treated me through this process. I had to go to the hospital because my stress level was through the roof. They do not have any concern for my situation at all. In addition, I was never told what the rate was from the other lenders were offering. I have an 800 credit score and had 6.5% rate from my bank. I have had my car two years. I bought the Carmax Care warranty and my car has been in the shop an entire month. under 100,000 miles. The warranty only wanted to cover $40 a day for a rental; which in today's economy you cannot get a rental for $40. I have also already come out of pocket $2000 on repairs because they don't want to pay the full fix. Today I found out the motor is blown and I could possibly be in the shop another month waiting for my warranty to cover it because they want to send their own adjuster out and they want them to tear the car down even more which is labor cost, which they may or may not cover. And to clarify, the vehicle has never been in an accident it just quit one day. DO NOT buy the customer warranty. They do not cover or repair anything. I have ended up paying out of pocket and going through my own insurance to cover the problem; which potentially will lead to buying a new car because Carmax did not follow through on their end and cover the loss. my advice is if you buy a car through Carmax, you better have an attorney to fight for your warranty coverage. read more

We bought a truck from another location and the key fob didn't work so they gave us a repair ticket to have it fixed near our home in Houston. The first attempt to repair failed and we took it back a 2nd time. While in their care, the truck was vandalized and the catalytic converter was stolen. The car has now been in shop 4 times, radio/screen went completely out. They told me everything was good in this car I've been having radio trouble for the whole 7 months. Every-time I took off work or missed school to have it looked at the radio would be working so there was "nothing we can do" same with my transmission light comes in once a month so far and because it goes away randomly I get "nothing we can do" but I'm paying 726 a month. We had very positive car buying and selling experiences at this location. Zee was the absolute best- he was patient with us, never pressured us, and answered all of our questions. He was very direct and told me what I needed to know about the car I was interested in and ultimately purchased. He was also a pleasure to chat with. All of the other reps here were also great- each time we came, we were immediately greeted by someone and attended to. While I was waiting for an appointment, at least two different reps came over to check on me and answered lots of questions I had. I really appreciated the attentiveness and focus on the customer. Everyone else I talked to was very friendly. Selling my old car- same. They are doing customer service right! I have purchased a total of 6 cars from CarMax, 4 from this location (16110 North Fwy, Houston). The last two cars have had some major issues, that were thankfully still under guarantee to fix. This last one, I decided to return due to the major issues found. The process took around 30-45 min. Be aware that it takes 5-10 business days to get your money back (I paid cash). I asked if there was a way to expedite, the answer was yes, but they couldn't confirm in any way that they had done so. The sales man was rude and dismissive of my concerns. I have been offered a drive home with their Uber partnership service in the past. (my house is 5 min from location); This salesman told me that that was not an option. After over 10 years of being a loyal customer and purchasing vehicles for my whole family, I am left without a vehicle for over 10 days, due to lack of customer care and satisfaction from CarMax. They basically stole my money for over 10 days, not allowing me to purchase another vehicle. They also would not offer any type of rental service. At the end of the day, you're just money to them.
