Easy enough to sell my junker here. Although I may have made for more money selling it privately or in parts, I seriously didn't have the energy to do it. I wanted rid of the darn thing ASAP. I had a good experience with carmax a few years back in SoCal, so I just figure it was the easiest thing to do. The appraisal process and pay out process took an hour maybe even less and I was rid of the weight on my shoulders for good! I'd say the appraisal was fair considering my car needed new brakes, new tires, had burn holes in the seats, didn't defrost, had broken speakers, several dents and side swipes, not to mention multiple engine issues and that it was a daewoo lanos. SO as you can see carmax will literally buy anything and in any condition. It's easy and there's no harassment involved either. I can not say enough great things about the staff here at the Rivergate/Madison location. Nick Campbell was awesome. No pressure, just straight forward answers to my questions. Bryce in the business office was also great. I was waiting on an SD card and once I got it and took it home, it did not work. He was very professional and apologetic when I called. Dana in the service center got the issue fixed within 30 minutes. I won't need a new car for awhile but if and when I do, I will buy from Carmax. This is my second time using Carmax. I've never really considered visiting CarMax while car shopping, but I'm glad I did. I actually started my search online, and was lucky enough for Tarpy in Rivergate to step in to help. I was looking for a specific vehicle. It wasn't on his lot, but he was doing everything he could to provide me with all of the information I needed. He even offered to get me in touch with a salesperson in another store to help me purchase a vehicle in a different state. It wasn't going to be his sale, but it didn't stop him from helping. That's the difference I wasn't expecting. I ended up finding a vehicle on the Rivergate lot, and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Tarpy took care of it from the beginning and made sure I had all the information I needed about the vehicles I considered. Go see him if you are looking for an automobile. I want to make sure what I experienced at this specific Carmax NEVER happens again. During my search for a vehicle, I was working with Greg (Car Saleman) for some weeks. We sat down, discussed what I was looking for, cost, my employment, etc. I kept in touch with Greg regarding a car that caught my eye at another Carmax in Lexington. Due to my credit, the bank only approved me for a certain amount. I was told how much I would need to put down, etc. The vehicle was shipped over to the Rivergate location, which is where it was going to be purchased. While waiting on the vehicle to arrive, I continuously informed Greg that I was working on saving up the money, and that I wanted to ensure I had enough money for car insurance. I literally had everything needed to purchase the vehicle on Saturday, November 3rd. Not only was I prepared, but Greg was aware that I truly did need a vehicle immediately. When I arrived to Carmax in Rivergate in Madison, TN, Greg and I were sitting down going through the process. I also had the company I was going to purchase car insurance from on hold to ensure everything I needed with my car insurance met Carmax policies. When I say I had everything, and was well prepared, I was. Mysteriously (side eye) Greg could not locate my original auto loan agreement; etc. Greg was aware that I did not want to keep running my credit rather or not it is a soft inquiry, but he is aware that I am trying to improve my credit, etc. He was very "non-nonchalant," and would say "oh, it will be alright. It's a soft pull." But, I stated several times that day and in previous conversation that did not matter, I did not want to do that. So, by him "mysteriously," not being able to locate the original quote...guess what he had to do?!?! So, after running the quote again...he said "oh wow....the amount needed for the vehicle increased." I asked him did it have something to do with my credit constantly being pulled, he stated possibly, and asked if there were any recent changes to my credit report. (Side note: People, when you are shopping for a vehicle, home, etc. Rather or not you are constantly being told that when your credit is ran will be a "soft pull/inquiry," that does not matter....it all adds up." They even have to run your credit when you are shopping for car insurance.) The amount needed increased simply because I had to shop around for car insurance, etc. However, throughout the weeks, I called Greg to ask and make sure that the amount we discussed for me to pay upfront was all that was needed....and each time, he said "yes." I even asked if there were any hidden fees; if the amount included taxes; etc....and again, he ensured that the amount needed the day of purchase included the taxes, etc. Greg also stated that they (Carmax) could not speak with the banks; etc, to discuss another amount; etc. But, miraculously, the day I came to purchase the vehicle, he spoke with the manager, who then called the bank, and was able to not only place the original amount back in place, but provided me with two options. Keep in mind, when Greg andI first met we discussed everything; including my employment. He told me that the amount we discussed would only be accepted if I was on my job for six months or longer. He claim he was unaware about that being the case. After several weeks of saving, the day I come to purchase the vehicle, he stated that "I was unaware about that rule, and how long you've been on your job." ***side eye*** Then he presented me with another option that was definitely impossible. He said the bank was requesting close to $300-$400 dollars more in order to purchase the vehicle. Keep in mind, this man was aware that I needed a vehicle immediately. So, basically everything he stated was a lie...I also recall in the conversation where he stated he has someone who mentioned they were going to use the vehicle for "commercial," purposes (i.e. uber/lyft) and he was unable to sell it to her (she had everything needed, etc). And later on in that specific conversation, he stated he did not care losing his job. So, after leaving that Carmax, I began to have a conversation with God. And, as always, He brought it to my attention. You cannot "expect," someone to treat you right; tell you the truth; care about your well-being; your job; etc. if they do not love themselves and/or their lives. Instead of focusing on the fact Greg and Carmax lied to me, the Lord began to expose the "ROOT," of the issue...as He always does. I do not want anyone else to experience this. So, if the Lord needs to hold off on sending customers that way to provide him and whomever else with time to getting their hearts in check....so be it. I will always walk in forgiveness. And, I will not allow this "specific," location place a bad taste in my mouth toward other areas. As always, God sent me to that particular location for purpose and reason. I was in the market for a new vehicle and had a friend recommend this CarMax. I must say that I was torn because the prices here are more than what you'd pay at other car lots. They have no haggle pricing which my husband likes because he doesn't want to haggle and feels their pricing is a reflection of the quality of cars they offer. I'm not sure I whole-heartedly agree, it makes me feel like they're shutting you down before you even enter the building. The building was well maintained and they had a number of vehicles to choose from. The salesman was great, he let me test drive as many vehicles as I wanted and there was no pressure to buy. All the vehicles I drove were used and extremely clean inside & out. I was debating between two cars on the lot, one being $1500 more and he didn't try to sway me towards the more expensive one, that was refreshing. He went through the specs on both vehicles and left it to my husband and I to decide. We purchased one of the cars a few days later and when I drove it off the lot the brakes were grinding (they were not doing this during the test drive). I took it to a non-CarMax mechanic and they told me the car needed new rotors and pads on both the front and rear as well as a serpentine belt. I made an appointment with CarMax for them to fix the issues, since all of their cars come with the 30 day warranty. They were pleasant and fixed it free of charge as well as gave me a loaner vehicle during the repair. It definitely makes me think their 125+point inspection is more of a marketing ploy than an actual vehicle quality check since brakes are supposed to be on that list. read more

My salesman, Travis Cox was excellent! He did a great job of staying connected with me even after the sale was final and represented the company very well. Ms. Linda, in the business office was friendly and highly professional as well. Also want to shout out to Mr. Mari Stiff, the technician who went out of his way to make sure I had all the help I needed while dealing with the following issues: Service has been a different story. I give credit to Ms. Deanna, who tried to help me. I bought a great new car on 12/27, had to take it back on 1/8, was told that it was ready on 1/9, picked it up, and had to take it back the same day due to mechanical issues. The loaner I received as part of the contract also had a mechanical issue and had to be returned for a new one on 1/12. Today is 1/15 and no one from the service department has bothered to call with the status of the repair or even to apologize for the inconvenience. Mr. Dre, the service manager told me that the dealership would be closing early, that day,due to inclement weather. I told him that I could come immediately, which I did, and he assured me that the new loaner would be ready when I arrived. To my surprise, I had to wait over 30 minutes for my new loaner. Since this is my work vehicle, every time I have to switch cars, there is about 20 minutes of loading/unloading to accommodate all of my work materials. The Service Advisors who were watching me did not assist or even apologize that they could not. Again, THANKS MARI STIFF, TECHNICIAN for offering to help me on 1/12. There was also another Tech (wish I had gotten his name) who was kind enough to help on 1/9. TRAVIS COX, did everything within his power to provide support on that day! I feel as though CAR MAX, while providing an excellent written guarantee should take greater care to make sure that loaners are mechanically sound and communicate with customers more effectively. I hope CarMax will continue to shine in the areas they already do well and use these other comments as opportunity to improve....UPDATE (to be fair) Ms. Deanna called while I was writing this review(it's like they knew! :) and said they finally know what's wrong with my new car but do not yet have an ETA on when it will be ready. She did say that she would have the car detailed for me(as I requested the 2nd time I had to drop it off) See, she is one of the employees who is trying to help. All Car Max employees should look to these folks as examples of team and customer service! read more

If I could give this business a zero, I would. First, my daughter called and was advised that she was approved a loan for a vehicle. The next day she called to state she had the down payment so that the vehicle could be transferred to this location. However, Andrew wasn't in that day and told to call back tomorrow. So this morning, we gathered all of the information requested and our money. We called to say we would be there as soon as I saw the doctor for my foot which is broken and required stitches (this will be important momentarily). When my daughter calls, Andrew advises that the vehicle has been sent to their location for sale. The individual had not paid any money towards the purchase. So, logically I would think I could buy it right? The car had promised to me as well. Anyway, they refused. I had traveled that far already. So I just went on and tried to get a vehicle. After just accepting a car and go on. Now they run the credit, low and behold, they don't approve her because she hasn't been at her current employer for 3 months yet. Needless to say, I am not very happy after being jerked around for basically the entire week. Most of all, I have a broke foot. It's cold outside, I have to push myself on a scooter with no assistance from anyone to open a door or such, made we walk the lot to look for a car while they have a little golf cart that they there. It is obvious I have a broke foot too. I have a knee scooter. I promised I would tell everyone I knew how sorry of a place this is Andrew lacks a personality. They aren't friendly. I'm glad that they had a question about her New employment. She had a loan offer already and it wasn't through a lot. I think I could find a lot with a little more personality, warm and inviting and just acting like a donkey for lack of a better word. Oh, to make matters worse, I nearly fell and now my foot hurts super bad. No one from the car lot offered to help. I can find someone much better to get my business. read more

I bought a Ram truck from CarMax . From the date ordered it took 19 days to complete the buying process. The truck came for St Louis, took 7 days. They lost the title. That took an additional 12 days. I paid for the truck then they did some paint touch ups and cleaned and did just a fair detail job. I would not recommend them for a used car purchase. I am not a car person. So, when my car of 11 years and 183K finally did have to be replaced, I simply had no idea where to start. Marianne was so patient with me and great in helping me narrow down the seemingly endless number of choices. It took several test drives, but then I found my wonderful Honda Fit! I could not be more pleased. I went ahead and bought the extended warranty and I look forward to not having to stress about maintenance and repairs. With my last car, I always went to the dealership and I think this arrangement is going to be more economical while still dependable. I recommend this experience. When I bought my last car at a dealership, I walked out three times before buying because the sales person would keep talking about my monthly payment and didn't want to tell me what the car was actually going to cost. just purchased my 4th car from Carmax and as always they took great care of me before, during and after the sale. In past with vehicle purchases at other places as soon as the sale is over it is usually impossible to get anything done, I can say that is not the case with Carmax and this is reason I will continue to buy from them I want to thank Kurtis at Rivergate service department for making sure the issues I was having with my most recent purchase were taken care of so easily. My husband and I have been very fortunate to have mostly driven hand-me-down cars and so we have made it into our 30s without having gone through the car buying experience. We were both a bit apprehensive about a heavy sales push or ending up with a car payment higher than we could afford. The moment we walked into this Carmax we relaxed. Our sales person Greg Crider was a warm, friendly, knowledgable, non-pushy and a consummate professional. We ended up with a newer, better car than we thought we could afford (2010 Kia Soul) which we love!
