They will not return my phone calls I have been to their office and they refused to talk to me I don't know if the car is been stolen or why I have not received the title. DO NOT BUY A CAR HERE!! We paid cash for a VW Beetle for her 16th birthday--the report showed it had been a rental car with no accidents. While we driving it to park it until her birthday, it was making a popping noise. We talked to CarMax, they told us to take it to a VW dealer for repair, and the dealer would bill CarMax directly. We got a call from the dealer saying they couldn't fix it on the warranty because it had been in an accident. So we try to get another car from CarMax, no luck. On top of that, it's going to take 2-3 weeks to get our money back. Our daughter's birthday is next week and she has no car, and we don't have the money to buy another one. read more

I think what I like most about Carmax is how they hire mechanics who are blind and their service department is staffed by deaf people. It was a progressive move on their part, but honestly, I'd rather have my car worked on by someone who could see. That way, I wouldn't have to bring my car back for the same problem SEVEN TIMES. Yes, seven times. On three of those occasions they had my van for a week. Then there's the people who are supposed to answer the phone when you call. Emphasis on "supposed," as the people who work there are apparently deaf. Not only does this mean your phone calls go unanswered, but your messages aren't returned. I will say that I do appreciate the person who set up Carmax's service department; that guy is comedic genius. read more

I couldn't be more disappointed with this company and their managers. They truly don't hold the supposed "CarMax" standard. I started having issues with my car barely 30 days after purchase giving me a warning that my vehicle was unsafe to drive. Vehicle was taken in and after being sold a vehicle and told it had no recalls I find out there is 3. Which wasn't the issue but alarming. Then supposedly the vehicle was fixed but the same warning along with locking steering wheel continued to happen 3 more times. I asked CarMax to please make this right and let me bring the vehicle back. They refused. Said it wasn't within 7 days. Since my vehicle was unsafe I had to trade the vehicle in somewhere else and ended up $10k more in debt. This is not ok. After selling my car (purchased from CarMax), I had to visit the business office to wrap up a few things. The young man that helped me couldn't have been new (name tag said member since 2014) so, I'm not sure why he wasn't familiar with the paperwork he was dealing with. Nonetheless, if someone has a question about a document you're asking them to sign, you should be able to explain it. Nope, total opposite. He gave some fluff answer that made no sense and ended up asking someone else. Turns out, I didn't need to sign the document. There are people left in the world that still want to read their contracts before they sign. Dishonest Service. I took my truck in to address a grinding noise on the drivers side front wheel. For $59 they misdiagnosed and "repaired" a non existing problem "wheel bearing". ($500+) . They test drove it and called to say the noise still occurs and they originally didn't hear this noise for all the other noise. There was NO " other noise" and I said as much-also said they repaired the wrong "problem". Next they said a front differential repair was needed $1400. 10 days wait for parts...I declined and drove it(with its exact same noise its made since September) to Cable Dhammer on 103rd having called earlier for their opinion. They would do the same repair, comparable cost...one day. I pulled in to Cable Dhammers garage, did the paper work, got in the truck to test drive with a service tech, he put it in gear and the transmission would not engage...up to this point I have had 0 transmission issues - no sticking, no slipping, no hesitation. While at Carmax I also had my tranny fluid and filter replaced per regular maintenance so now I'm wondering what the hell else Carmax did. I get to find out today (Sat. Dec.8) Don't even go here for simple fluid changes. You and your wallet will regret it. read more

We love our chosen vehicle, and the salesperson we dealt with was great. However, there are a few things that stand out that will cause us to avoid the Shawnee Kansas location in the future. First off: they don't answer their phones: if you call the main number you will never get through to anyone. To reach them the first time, I had to call another location where a manager there called someone he knew on their cellphone. Today, trying to followup on some necessary paperwork, I was told by the other location that they have the same problem: calling on the phone is useless. Two: when we went to sign all the paperwork, my wife was deep in a severe migraine. We were assured that they would expedite the process, and it was just paperwork, wouldn't take more than thirty minutes: we were there FOUR HOURS. By the time we left she was blind with pain. Getting a check engine light on and getting emails from OnStar saying i have an engine or transmission issue on the Cadillac I've only had for a year. This is the third time I've needed to to bring it into the repair center in that time, and they're telling me i can't get a loaner and that it'll be a week before they get it in the shop? I'm paying for MaxCare, but getting reprimanded by repair center employees over the phone? What exactly are we paying for? Bait and Switch Beware! I was moving states so I reserved the car I wanted online, and CONFIRMED the address was this one for pickup. The only other car we had was a Uhaul that needed to be returned the next morning, hence setting the car up for express pickup to be ready. When we got there, the car I RESERVED was three hours away at a different store and they would ship it in a week, they did not offer us a temporary car. So we had to buy a different car we did not want because we had no other option. The car needed a part replaced as well, and it has been two months without any action being taken and they will not call me back or they refer me to someone else that is busy at the moment. My first appointment they had scheduled for me, when I got there they said they didn't order the part yet. Then they said they'd call me when the part came in. I got a notification that the part came in and I had to reach out to schedule something... again... still waiting to fix a part on a car that I should not have needed to buy in the first place. read more

Great experience at the store location. My frustration started when I began to see that the car wasn't all that it was presented to be. One of the rims was bent, multiple scratches and door dings (that were originally covered up but over time have revealed itself) for a $27k car I would expect better quality. I am so disappointed with my last purchase. Radio sounded terrible and salesman assured me it would be fixed as he heard the same thing. After taking it to service they state there's nothing they can do. Additionally I was told it could play my ITunes and the car is not set up to do so, only phone. Do not listen to their sales staff, they are not knowledgeable and if anything is under par, you cannot rely on Carmax to honor their word, you will be stuck. 3rd car I have bought from them, so sad they have lost my business. read more

Purchased a Genesis G90, had to take it back within the first 3 days for some brake & key FOB problems. The issue was I had to go back & forth with the service department for a loaner which I was told I would get the first 7 days of purchase. My first purchase 4 years ago I was given a loaner in the first week to also get some work done, things must have changed. The problem with the FOB could not be fixed even after 3 Carmax techs looked at it. Instead of Carmax sending the car to a dealership to get fixed they told me to pick up the car, returning the loaner and taking it myself to a Genesis dealer where I would have to pay for any repairs and no loaner!! I am confident that Carmax will reimburse me for the repair expense but I dont have a way to get to work now since they took the loaner!!! NOT HAPPY. read more

I purchased a 2015 QX60 Infiniti in July. Of the 15 weeks i have owned it, 7 have been spent with the car in the service department. Several different issues. The last issue the car went back and forth between CarMax and Infiniti at least 3 times. Supposedly it is now resolved. I have requested they take the car back and give me my money. They offered to forgive the remaining warranty amount, but would give me about $6,000 less than what I paid a few months ago and not clear on how, or if, I would get the sales tax back. No additional assistance from service or sales, though they sent me back and forth several times. Legal has yet to return my calls. read more

I have had good experience in the past. Bought three other cars. This time I spent a lot of time researching the car i wanted. I ask my normal questions before transfer. Odors are always the first question. The questions came back that all was good. No issues. Waited two weeks. Excited to buy car so I had my banker give me a cashiers check. Walked in and they said they will get keys but go ahead a check out the car it's up front. Car looked great. Then I opened the door and a wave of cigarette smoke with a layer of chemical perfume cover up hit me in the face. Totally popped my balloon. They said how about we change the cabin filter. Wow. Really. I am so stupid I would believe that's all it needs? That's like saying hay see if there stupid enough to believe that will get rid of the cheap hotel smell of this high end German SUV. Anyway they did refund my transfer fee and did agree it smelled liked smoke. Really just tarnished a perfect record of service an I feel like they lied and wanted me to accept it anyway. read more

I took the vehicle in and they didn't even attempt to fix the scratches. Then they threatened to call the police if I didn't sign paperwork saying the scratches were fixed. I bought a car from Carmax in Merriam Kansas in May. 100 miles from where I live. I paid cash which was my first mistake. Once they have your money the customer service and sales departments have NO INTEREST IN HELPING YOU!! My temporary tag expired and I went to the DMV with every bit of paper work I was given to get my tags. CARMAX only gave me a copy of the original title and the DMV wouldn't take it. Customer service there will NOT ANSWER THEIR PHONE...NOT EVER. You have to call their corporate office to have them contact them. They insisted they gave me the original title but I will swear on the Bible, THEY DID NOT!! Instead of applying for a lost title they kept telling me I had it!! They would not give me an extended tag either. Told me Kansas does not allow it but DMV said that was a LIE!! They cannot admit the mistake was on their end and actually refused to help or call me back. My next step will have to be to get an attorney. They will have to take this car back and give me my money back, If I get a ticket for expired temporary tag, I will sue them for the bill. Don't ever leave this terrible dealership without the orginal title in your habd. I will NEVER make another purchase at CARMAX in Merriam and will warn everyone I know read more

The next day the salesman called and said "NO we don't have that car for 10K and we never did." "We DO have one that is $12,000.00." Sure enough they had changed the price. Probably because I have excellent credit. Well, I had a screen-shot of the SAME PICTURE for SAME CAR $2,000.00 less and sent it to the salesman. Of course I have not heard back from them. This place is a mess. If you like 'em, God bless. Nearly every step of the way, they didn't do what they promised. So, I ordered a car from Texas and it made it to the right place. I bought the car drove it away and then found out that they had misrepresented the mileage on the odometer so we canceled the sale and started over. I told them I was losing trust and wanted an inspection, they said fine that's what the 5 day no questions return policy is for. So, they said I'd have that money back in 3 days so they said they'd hold the car, I'd come back and buy it and could have it inspected. So I setup an inspection. Getting my money back ended up taking multiple phone calls to Carmax and multiple emails over the next 10 days to get my money back because "corporate couldn't reach me to get me to send a copy of the canceled check (which they have) and a picture of my account to make sure I hadn't put a stop on my check." Why couldn't they reach me? Because they mixed numbers up between my home and cell phone and apparently couldn't summon the common sense to call the salesperson who knew how to reach me. I reset the inspection appointment and told the business office this was messing up the timing of the deal and they said "Sorry". So, I sent them what they wanted and they said the check would be there the following Tuesday, which was an entire week late. It came on while I was of town (which by their standards, I don't know is good yet without either a canceled check from them and a photocopy of their account statement or 7 days has passed). So when I got back home from traveling, I called the salesperson, Kathy and asked another question about the car and she said she'd have to call me back. She called back later that night and said they'd sold it to someone else. When I expressed outrage, she said "You didn't call us." Unfreakinbelievable. I had half a dozen phone calls and multiple emails with their business office to get my money back so I could repurchase the car. They didn't keep their bargain on returning my money and I lost this car because she's too lazy to check to see if what she told me was happening and reach out see if I wanted them to hold the car while they got their sh*t together. It's on the customer who is talking with Carmax to call her separately and say, "You'll extend the hold since you and Jeremy your manager sat there and told me I'd have my money back in 3 days and it took 10, right?" This is the kind of behavior you're dealing with here. It is your job as customer to coordinate their dysfunctional organization. They're like multiple separate businesses and they all blame each other for anything that goes wrong, and in my case, much went wrong, more than I'm sharing here. After the odometer error, they did refund my shipping fee for the car. If you decide to shop there after reading this, I encourage you to be very, very careful. If they responded to this review, their response would probably include something about how they went the extra mile and even offered to replace the tires. The fact is that I just pointed out that the tires had very little life in them, and according to them, they examined the tires and found that one of them was below what was required by Kansas law so they offered to replace them. If you bought the black BMW 328i wagon VIN WBA3G7C52FK296867 and it didn't include a new set of tires, you should at a minimum have the tires checked to make sure they have sufficient tread to be compliant with Kansas law because what Kathy told me was they were not. I could take all the lessons I learned here and apply it next time to dealing with Carmax, or I could shop elsewhere. Hmm... read more

This was my first buy from a dealership and financing. It was a lot easier than I thought and alex was very helpful and knowledgeable. He was patient and honest while helping make sure I understood everything fully. I will continue to use carmax for their service department and any future vehicle purchases. My experience was great and my car is amazing. I got a great price on my dream car. The only negative I have is that i had to get an oil change in the 2nd week of owning it. This is a poor excuse for a business. Not only has their own mistake screwed up my loan with another loan company. My car has been in the shop 5 times, with the first time being WITHIN the first 30 days of owning it. Now after owning the vehicle for 8 months, the vehicle is in the shop AGAIN and I just received a call from their corp office stating the vehicle isn't registered with the state of Kansas.
