The manager & rest of staff involved were also kind & warm, even at the end of my refund process. BEWARE of this CARMAX!!!! My daughter was buying her first car. We live in CT and she lives in Chicago. Her experience should have been positive, as my family have bought multiple cars from CARMAX. She was preapproved with CarMax financing, with me as a so-signer. She test drove the car, told them about her financing and made a plan to return to purchase the car. She went on Saturday evening. She told them she had been preapproved for financing and had her $!0,000 down payment. Sales Manager Sean Markham then became involved and spent the next couple hours telling my daughter that she could not finance the car with me as a co-signer because I wasn't physically there. 2 hours. She continued to question why would they waste her time if the answer was no. Sean Markham's response was " well, we need to to better and this can be used as a learning experience." Sorry Sean, it is possible because once I got on the phone and told you the CARMAX has a policy called FEDEX Option. It is on their website. It is a CARMAX policy that if a co-signer is far away, they will fedex the forms to a local CARMAX for me to sign. Once I explained to Sean Markham that I know their policy he quickly made excuses and immediately went and called his manager for approval...just a minute before and for 2 hours, even with my daughter expressly asking for this, there was NO possible way to make this work. Amazingly, once the dad spoke up he changed his time. SEAN MARKHAM is a worthless piece of garbage who tried to take advantage of my daughter because he thought he could pad his bonus by making her pay 12% instead of 5%. I went in to buy a car yesterday and for my first time buying one it was a super simply process and my salesperson (Emeray) was super kind and very informative, i went in to test drive a 2014 honda civic and loved the car. I did notice a smell and found that the air cabin filter was very dirty, i mentioned it to Emeray and said he'd get that taken care of this monday because service was already closed and scheduled for me to come back and get it replaced with no charge. Paper work didn't take as long as i thought it would compared to bigger dealerships and i was out within 2 hours of starting paperwork. (come with a decent down payment, it makes it 10x easier to get approved quicker especially if your a young buyer with no credit history or little credit) i highly recommend coming here i would definitely come back if i wanted to get into another car later in the future. read more

He was quick to respond to my frequent text messages (sometimes on his days off) and never made me feel as though I was a nuisance. I originally left a great review because the service was quick and efficient but I realized when the tire pressure light turned on almost immediately after purchase and the brakes were just as iffy as they were when I left that I had been "bamboozled." I asked the person I was working with about the brakes when I took it for a ride and he said they were fine .. the car had been sitting for a while. These brakes are super questionable. I also wasn't informed that this car had been modified.. so they made it push to start but the seats are manual.. which is GHETTO. And one of the tires just won't inflate no matter how long I sit outside with a pump on it.. now granted they do give the 30 day return, but I had Sooo much going on I didn't get a chance to get back in there.. I would have liked to not stop and do such a tedious thing .. give a decent car the first time!! Also - I saw someone on here mention she paid for a transfer and they later denied her.. I think the same might've happened to me. I paid for a Lexus. Newer better.. when my credit was better and then suddenly there was an issue with the title .. they asked me if I would wait for it or pick another car.. and I said I'll wait and then they never called me back about the car I paid to be transferred to Chicago from Memphis.. a year later my other car dies and they happily give me a busted ass Volkswagen.. so there maybe some racism or selectiveness happening.. which is sad and unprofessional. read more

Everything seemed great, until 4 days later my check engine light came on the car was shaky which we later found out the catalytic converter needed to be replaced which is absolutely ridiculous since this place claims they "run tests" on all their cars, which I just told the guy when I returned my car thats complete bs. We had an appraiser previously value it at $12K, their computer valued it at $11K ( which we weren't supposed to have seen the screen appraisal) lol, this clown offered us $1500.00! I have also bought a car in the past at this franchise but I would say the better value for me was a place to sell. tho nothing wrong with their used car it wasn't a great deal just a good no haggle deal which is worth something to avoid all the craziness. all in all it really cant hurt to get an auto appraised imo only as you are not obligated and for me was well under an hour to get a bona fide offer price. offer was quite reasonable this iteration. First time was just okay so I took the avg and gave 3 stars. Also, the selection is somewhat limited you may have to transfer a car from a diff location (quite cheap to do if online to be believed not sure what your obligation is tho as I've never done it) there and some of the cars are prob from a fleet /rentals but they offer some kind of CarMax service plan.. not sure about those details you can ask to see if worth it. ive never needed to use CarMax for a mechanical prob so cant say one way or another on that point. read more

I bought the car with a couple miles on it from Hawk Ford and the cars over all condition was OK. The entire process of inspection was a breeze. Someone came and checked out the car from the interior to the under carriage. They took it for a test drive and in less than 30 minutes we were sitting in the lobby speaking to Jonathan Lee. He was very personable and went over the entire inspection and the value of the car. We agreed to initial price quoted and he informed us that the paperwork would take about 30 minutes. Since the car title was under two names, both parties needed to be present. As soon as both parties arrived, Christina from the business department took over. We advised Christina that my co-signer had to leave within 30 minutes and if she can prepare the paperwork within that time frame it would be great. She finished the agreement in 20 minutes! I heard good things about this location, so I wanted to have my car serviced here. However, this was a HUGE mistake! ABSOLUTELY NOTHING went right. If you want a quick and go the point review: Go to another CarMax and avoid the headache. If you want a detailed review of my experience at this location: First, I was not able to get in contact with the service manager Jason prior to getting my serviced. Over a period of 10 days I contacted him three or four times and he never felt the need to return any of my calls. Even the day I showed up for service he didn't speak to me or acknowledge that I was trying to get in contact with him. My personal recommendation for him is to be retrained by Tom (store manager). Second, I was under the impression my car was going to be in and out the same day. To my surprise, they needed to keep my car so they gave me a loaner. This is not the worse situation since I was able to get a loaner. However, my service associate failed to tell me it was a POSSIBILITY that I would get pulled over by the police for "stolen license plates" because dealers have to get updated plates every year but the license plate number stays the same. Therefore, I was extremely pissed when I was pulled over for "stolen license plates" on a car that CarMax loaned to me. Third, what they needed to service was not completely serviced when I did put my car up. Overall, I wasted time, energy, and my last days of summer dealing with a team of incompetent people at this location. If you wish to have a better experience, I strongly suggest you go to another CarMax. The location in Tinley Park is a bit further out depending on where you are driving from but it's a bigger store and a production store so they are better able to meet your needs. read more

Bought a 2019 Chevy Equinox LT Diesel from here in March 2023. I love the car but since I have had it it's been in shop almost 4 or 5 times. I got the warranty and it's cool but this car has problems. When I called Carmax they said go through warranty. All the sensors have been changed and is still lights and messages popping up. Caked carmax to see if they can help me out at least trade the car back for something of equal or lessor value no one never gets back to me. I don't think this vehicle should have been sold with the problems it's having and Carmax knew that just wanted to get it off there lot. I am very disappointed and now I am stuck with a car that spend more time in shop than I drive it..This isn't the first time I have done business with Carmax.My first car was good and I traded it in for the Equinox. It's now at a Kia dealer being repaired - under warranty-- but because of supply chain issues, a new transmission will not likely arrive for 90+ days. It's obvious that Carmax did not do a comprehensive inspection as promised. Working on a replacement vehicle with Carmax but about to walk away and wait FOR THE TWO WEEKS IT TAKES YOU TO GET YOUR REFUND CHECK! Positives: got a reasonable price on my trade-in. Everybody is super nice! Cons: obvious from my description. Each person you speak to about remedying a problem gives you an explanation that doesn't jive with what someone else has told you. Well I went to try and see about purchasing one from them recently and they gave me such a run around about not having insurance and that even if I had someone in the car with insurance that person had to drive it. First of all, I test drove 2 other cars from them last month with no personal insurance just my brother-in-law showing he was covered, no problems. Also, why would I have insurance when I don't have a car to begin with for over 2 years? My insurance man told me he couldn't give me insurance for a car I didn't already purchase. The only reason I would visit CarMax again is if I completely exhausted all of my other sources. I went in there last night to sell my car. I made an appointment as per their request and arrived a few minutes early. Not real sure why an appointment is even necessary as there are no customers in there, except one guy who was buying a car. TWO hours it took to complete a fairly simple transaction. I signed more papers than if I were applying for a mortgage. I wound up only getting half what they had quoted me online. Their offer was actually insulting. Yes, I could have declined, but at that point, I just wanted to be done with it all. So much back and forth and just plain waiting and for what? Each time I had to go back to the desk and ask what was the delay. Finally I told them I'll stand right here until you get this sorted out. I hadn't planned on camping out here all night. After sitting for 10mins, I get up to ask a different rep, how long would it be before I'm seen. He asked what am I here for, I said vehicle appraisal. He said oh, that's going to take about an hour. Why would I book an appointment to wait an hour. I drive one hour to come here to get the appraisal done. If I would o my be added to a cue.
