We paid $22,000 for a car and within 24 hours experienced breaks that didn't work, broken break lights, broken sensors, etc. We came to get it serviced and they said we had to wait 3 days for it to get repaired. They won't give us a rental either. So now we are left with no money and no car this week to get to work which means no paycheck either. Horrible service. I went in the pompano beach location at 1700 Sample Rd. For their so called fair market value trade in or pirchase of my vehicle which is a 2003 Dodge Neon SXT in good condition. I proceeded to the lot to look at vehicles all the while watching mine in the parking lot. Now the person went over to my car did not open the door or hood and gave me a 200 appraisal which was a complete slap in the face. I have junked cars with blown motors for more than that. Black book value is 3 times that amount. I believe rhey falsely advertise by saying fair market value. I had a fantastic experience at this dealership. That does not mean you will, it just means that I did. It wasn't about the salesmen. I'm a salesman and I wouldn't do business with myself. Its the whole Carmax experience. Its just different. First off the cars they buy ARE properly screened and after a certain mileage, year, etc they are not RESOLD to the public. Those cars are sold at auction and are shipped all over the united states. The cars on the lot give you a little bit of a piece of mind. They have been evaluated and listed with a "no hassle" price. That basically means there is no bargaining- none. Just let it go. That kind of makes it easier because at other dealerships it becomes a game of who will fold first. At carmax you see the car, the specs and the price and you know THATS it, take it or leave it. Yes the cars are priced a little bit higher than most dealerships. But I just have a feeling that they are worth the money. Only 1 in 3 cars they buy are resold. Thats pretty strict. They appraised my car in less than 20 minutes. They offered me more than the KBB value and said I'd have a bank note in 10 days if I chose the offer today. Or I could walk and come back within 7 days and they would keep the offer. I looked around the lot and found a nice Camry that I liked. Within an hour and half I was driving it home. It was a perfect car, great shape, worth the price any day., I really liked it but for a 30 yr old man it wasn't my prime choice. I really wanted an Altima and noticed the FTL locaton at Carmax had a really nice one in stock. So I went and checked it out and because of Carmax's 5 day return policy the change took no time at all. A driver from this dealership drove down to FTL and picked up my Altima, proceeded to transfer it to me and take back the Camry. The whole process took less than 4 hours total. The girls in the business and signing office are absolutely the best, they took care of pages of paperwork in a snap. Overall the process I experienced at Carmax was one of the best I have ever had. I did some searching for a car online starting on a Thursday evening, & by Friday night, I was communicating with Andrew from CarMax. He sent pictures of vehicles I was hoping to find & I was amazed at how fast & hard he was working for me! I would not buy a Car from them again. Because there Service contract does not cover replacement of a battery or its cables Which should be maintained in daily maintenance. Which they Don't cover checking or clean in a battery. And now charging me for the cost of replacement since they Don't due maintenance on a battery unless they are paid additional to do so. I explained to the service department. That when we bought the car. Nothing was ever said about a cost to pay for maintains And cleaning a Battery. Sounds like BS to me. read more

My advice is get a ridiculous trade in figure from a dealership and from there sell your vehicle on Letgo or some other app. This is just common sense and will give you less regret no matter where you buy your car. After I sold my car for over $1000 more than what the car dealership offered I called Carmax and asked for an out the door price on the vehicle I saw on their website. I also used kbb.com to compare Carmax pricing and found things looked very good in that respect. To my surprise I was given the OTD price and that price would not change as I drove away in my used Carmax vehicle. I bought the old plate from my sold vehicle and they did the work to change it to my Carmax vehicle; I did not need a temporary tag. They also helped change over my insurance to my Carmax vehicle. Last but not least since i forgot my check book i was able to use my bank debit card after making a call to my bank to let them know what the large withdrawal was for. I used three thousand, a portion of the money from my recently sold vehicle to complete the sale. Carmax did not charge extra for using the card. The time spent there was a little over an hour including the test drive and I found myself on my way home with my Carmax SUV. Today I went in for an appraisal and when my car was given back to me the window was down and would not roll back up . I went back in to tell the sales person I was working with and he was very rude. The service manager came out and explained they don't check the windows when they do appraisal on cars . Even though I was given a check list stating everything was working on my car. That didn't sound right but there was nothing I could do. I will never take a car to carmax on sample road again. read more

I previously left a nasty review and and realized that out of 5 business transactions, only that one visit was bad...So, being that I don't usually leave reviews, I think it's unfair to attack CarMax because of one lazy associate. My other 4 CarMax purchases were always pleasant. Never an issue. Not one. It's nice having a MASSIVE selection of cars and the best part? Not having to "negotiate" around a car price and then wonder if you got a deal or not....Nope, just look at the side window and the car facts and price are right there and that price is final.....Not once did I ever find a car overpriced ( I always Double check via car apps). The experience I had at the other location was bad enough that I'll never return to that store but I did find and buy a car from a different store because of it....I still can't believe a manager would acknowledge tire thread is so low that a quick drive around the block would put it below the "CarMax" Standard and to have a great day....$22,000 transaction walked out the door because of a $25.00 tire.. I recently bought my first car and as you know, this can be really stressful. So when I went to Carmax I had doubts if they could help me since I made some bad experience with other dealerships. I was with their sales consultants Rodney and Perri and they did a great job in finding the right car AND to get it financed. Five Stars for that! They also talked about the possible upgrade options for the car and I ended up in having a leather upgrade for both seat rows. I paid 1300$ for that but the car value almost increased by 2000$. So it was worth the money and the leather seats are just great. If I would go there again? For sure I would! read more

ill Start off by saying that for the most part they are ok. Salesman jaime rodrigo and Steve dimiati were great, they did everything right. They made me a decent offer. so now I talk to the business office about the details with the titles because one of the vehicles was titled to a friend. I was very clear about everything. I was told that if I want one check That I need to have both titles in my name, so I go to the tag agency and changed the one title to my name. I return within 24 hours to accept the offer, now SANDY The business office manager asks me multiple times if they are financed. I repeatedly tell her no, I paid cash for both vehicles clean clear titles in hand. SANDY looked at me, looked at the title, looked at me, looked at the titles, over and over again while whispering with her co workers. It took so long that I was literally asked by 3 different employees if I was being helped . Then she finally sends the front desk girl to tell me that it's policy that they can't take a title issued within 30 days. now ain't that some s**t , they told me to do something then when I do exactly what I was told to do it's against policy. this really caused me some inconvenience, I made some financial moves based on the deal that was on the table. i don't think that little ol me should have to pay for the wrong information that they gave me, if that policy wasn't invented right then an there. First thing I liked about Carmax was that I wasn't bombarded by a salesman. I was able to look around without any hassles or pressure. I found a car that I was, at the moment, "happy" with. Went through the process of running the financial options. Wasn't pleased with what my payments would be on a car that was 5 years old. I have been there 2 times two get my car appraised. The initial offer was around 35-40% of what they sell similar cars for in their website. The offer was only good for a week, I went 3 days after the offer expired, they cut another $500. They didn't have any good answer why the price decreased after 3 days. The sales guy tried to talk me through that market conditions changed, market prices and etc and I asked if their sales prices decreased in those conditions ,again there was no answer. Car Max low balled me. I went into Car Max Pompano in early November to sell my 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT with only 63000 original miles. The process was very smooth and efficient. The representative quoted me a couple of unsubtantiated market evaluations from Edmund's and Kelly Blue Book and then offered me $5500 for the vehicle which was in excellent condition. I foolishly accepted their offer. Today I saw my vehicle for sale on their website for $11,998. I actually wanted to give 4.5 stars but couldn't. Buying a car from here is a great experience. Not only did I buy one, but I sold one here too. Both experiences were exactly what they advertise, HASSLE FREE. The only issue I had was with the service department. The SUV I bought didn't have a remote for the rear seat entertainment. This model requires it or you cannot use the system so Carmax (at least the sales people) agreed we should have it. The service department, which controlled the transaction, didn't seem to want to get it done for us though and were unable to give a potential time that we should expect the remote and made our salesperson try and find a "model number" for them to order by. I Googled the remote and found it in like 30 seconds. Picking up the remote was almost a hassle as well since the service manager was out to lunch and apparently nobody could access the room with the ordered parts. My wife had to ask the person at the counter to get the general manager who surely had keys to every door to get the part. Our salesperson, Patrick Townsend, was absolutely great and I recommend that anyone interested in going to Carmax request him. read more

It's a great place to buy a car. First is a lot faster than a Dealer, The price you see and that's it! You have the ability to look for cars all over US, you make your decision they will bring it here (for a small fee of course) but if you don't like it you don't have to buy it. Carmax's slogan "The way car buying should be" pretty much sums up my entire experience with the company. No game, no hassles, just good honest business. They made a fair profit, and I got a car that looks and runs great. You can't take this sort of thing for granted, especially here in South Florida where it is home of the shysters. I found the exact make and model car I wanted online at Carmax, but the problem was that it was located in South Carolina. Carmax told me I could have the car shipped to this location in Pompano for a fee. Even with the fee the price was right, so I decided to go for it. I had already test-driven the same car at a different dealer, so I knew what I was getting. The only concern that I had was whether the car they were shipping would arrive as advertised or in some other condition. It only took a couple of days for my car to arrive in Pompano Beach; it was exactly as expected BUT I noticed a very small pinhole in the convertible rooftop that someone attempted to mask with some sort of black putty. It was a minute whole that I could've lived with, but a small whole nonetheless. After pointing this out to the Manager on staff, to my surprise, he instantly offered to have the entire convertible roof reinstalled at their cost. It took an extra day to replace, but I ended up with a brand new factory convertible roof that was actually an upgrade from the previous version the car once had. (If you ever owned a car with a mechanical convertible roof, then you know the value of this.) The team at this Carmax location take the quality of their cars very seriously, are very honest, and in my case they did everything right. read more

They do not advertise on autotrader so none of their cars were coming up in my searches. Any way, I was all set to buy a car from another dealer when I decided to do a search with carmax. Low and behold they had the perfect car at a more than fair price. I brought my car to be traded in and they gave me a very fair price on that too. I think the fairest thing I can say is, don't expect anything better from Carmax than from any other dealer. You can give them the same shot. If you find a car you like and do some research, you'll feel ok. But for a place that wants to show it is doing away with the gimmicks, the place is all gimmick. NO HAGGLE? It may be that the car is in good condition and priced fairly. And the chances are just as good that neither of those things is true. You would have to get a list of all it's options, price each out, see if they actually work, and compare each of them to the price of another car somewhere else that has the exact options - or doesn't. Have you seen the lists of options available? Dozens. Even if you could find that much time, you'd need a vacation after figuring it out. So you end up kinda trusting their no-haggle price. They count on that. I shouldn't have to tell you, that no haggling is not exactly for your benefit. But enough of us hate it enough to avoid it. The model I was looking for was priced highest at Carmax. It had the options I wanted and I wasn't able to locate another one with those options and color within almost 100 miles from Fort Lauderdale. But anything similar to that same model was less at any other dealership. NO COMMISSION? Well, not exactly. It's true that their commission isn't based on the price of the car you are buying, so they're not trying to push you to spend more money. Their commission is based on how many cars they sell. They don't care what you buy. Just buy it in the least amount of time possible and move on so they can get back out on the floor to greet the next customer. I bet most of you spend more time buying a greeting card. It isn't pleasant being pressured to spend beyond what you intended, and it's just as unpleasant feeling like you're buying a pair of shorts at a discount store. This is a business like every other. In the United States it's expected that you will sell your goods and services at the best fair price. Carmax is not a charity. They should stop pretending. The showroom doesn't have to look like a bowling alley bathroom. Yes, I know you want us to feel you're keeping expenses low and will pass the savings to us (ahem). But being the snob that I am, I wouldn't have minded being offered a bottle of water while buying a $25,000 used car. While you may get as fair a price as you would have at another dealership, you definitely get jipped out of any of the fun and flair that can be part of car buying. The car runs ok. Y'all need to re-examine what you stand for when you say customer service... This purchase will be my first and final purchase at the Coconut Creek, FL CarMax. On November 22, 2017, I had bought my 2012 Orange Hyundai Veloster from them. Everything seemed to be perfect and kept in well condition until I brought it home. At the time I had flown down to FL for the day to buy this car and went back home to Nashville, TN where I had paid from another source to have it shipped. Before shipment, I had left the car at my dad's for a couple weeks. Over the course of the weeks, my dad picked up on things we had failed to discuss at CarMax. One major issue was the battery, it was old and needed to be replaced. We also noticed a few minor issues including window shield wipers and their fluid had also needed to be replaced. As my father had taken it back to CarMax for further inspection we waited a few more days for the car to be returned hopefully in better condition. To my luck, the parts were never fixed or even touched. As a result, I ended up paying for new wipers, fluid, and a brand new battery out of my own pocket. Along with these issues, CarMax also did a terrible job at supergluing my panel near my passenger door on. As the piece had popped off when I was driving down the interstate. If you're going to say we have a month to get things fixed under your roof then you should hold up your (CarMax's) end of the bargain and stay true to your word. When the car had finally arrived in Nashville I had called and set up and appointment with the office in Nashville as my month had not ended. I spoke with a gentleman who I thought would finally be the man to help me. We discussed the issue and the piece and made a date and time to come in and fix it. I had mentioned to him I was traveling internationally and will not be home for 2 weeks, although, he still worked around this issue. A little later, I gave him a call and received no response and promptly left a voicemail. 5 calls later from both me and my father at both Nashville and Coconut Creek, no response. It seems as if yall had waited that whole month out. I am now writing about this issue almost a year later because I have made an appointment with a body shop to get the damage repaired. The window panel alone cost me $230... No wonder you didn't want to pitch in. Please don't waste your time here. If CarMax would ever like to resolve this issue with me, I would be more than willing to hear them out as I hold true to my word. read more

I wanted an older model Honda Odyssey, found one on the carmax website and paid $150 to ship it to me from a few states away. It arrived in less than a week, was in pristine condition for an 11 year old model. I was notified it was ready, I drove it a few hours later, examined the engine and was thrilled with the price. Paperwork took less than an hour and off I went! There were two tiny problems, a side shade wouldn't move and two interior lights wouldn't turn on. I went back to carmax but they wanted to make an appointment and then come back a second time for repairs...turns out, I fixed these minor things myself in five minutes with youtube. We've bought six cars from carmax and always have a good experience although this time, the very short paperwork signing made it even better. I love this car and it is exactly what I wanted.
