This review is long overdue since they did work over the summer. I get home one afternoon with my children and I clicked the garage opener and the door would not open. I tried numerous times and still nothing. Big problem because all of my doors are shut from the inside with special locks so that my son can't bolt (Autism) so there was no way to get in the house like a normal human being. The only way in was the garage and this was not happening. I managed to get in but it was not a pretty process. This company was the one that installed the garage door so they got a call to come and see what was wrong with the door because I was now opening and closing it manually. They set an appointment and showed up just in time. Turned out to be something simple so the guy was done quickly. The chain was off the track and needed some tightening. I would never do business with these people! I made a work order through ORHP ( Old Republic Home Protection) and they sent the work order to Charmichael overhead door. A day later (expected) they called me and set up and appointment for the next day to fix the broken spring on the garage door. They had several open appointment times. 8-10, 9-11, 10-12. I took the 8-10. I went to bed early Since i would nights and woke up early. THEY NEVER SHOWED UP! I called the company after 10 when the appointment was over and They couldn't even find my appointment. Asked me for all my information again still couldn't find me. When i mentioned to the receptionist that it was a work order sent over from ORHP she said, "Oh i found it, we will see you tomorrow." As i had now made ANOTHER appointment for 9-11 the next day since i needed to leave for work at 1130. AGAIN I woke up at 830 and waited for them to show up. At 11 THEY DID NOT SHOW UP AGAIN!!!!!! They flaked on my twice. I immediately called ORPH! I Do not know what the problem is with keeping heir appointments but seriously i gave them two tries to show up and do a simple garage spring replacement. Carmichael Door happened to be the first company I called, and I'm glad I did. The gentleman who answered was very enthusiastic to help. I asked for a ballpark figure for spring replacement, knowing they cannot quote accurately without seeing my door. He did his best to earn my business, and his quote was very competitive with others I'd seen online. Technician showed up within the arrival window promised, and he showed me features about my opener I was not aware of. Unfortunately the springs on my door were heavy duty and cost more than I had hoped, but it was obvious comparing one spring to the other I needed the heavy duty spring. He had the job done in well under an hour (replaced 2 springs - the broken spring and its partner - I opted to replace both - my choice. He did NOT try to upsell me) GREAT experience. We placed an order with Paul George. He said the wait time would be three weeks. After waiting and never hearing from him my husband had to make multiple calls to find out Paul had NEVER placed our order. He said he was sick and his desk was backed up. Yes, mistakes happen but his tone during the call is what made him lose our business. He totally did not seem to care about the mistake he admitted he made. I asked if they could expedite our order and he said NO. I asked if he could give us a discount for putting our project on hold due to HIS mistake and he said NO. Our garage door was seriously damaged late Tuesday. I called Carmichael and scheduled a service call for Wednesday. The repairman arrived early Wednesday and explained the door needed to be replaced. He did his best to get the door down but it wasn't possible. The repairman apologized that the earliest appointment they had was for Friday. I called the office and explained how we could not get the door closed and sort of begged to to have someone come out sooner so we did not have to leave it open for two nights. The woman I spoke to was very understanding and said she'd see what she could do. Tina worked her magic and later that day two installers did the job in a few hours. The repairman and installers were professional and friendly. We were so happy and relieved to have the work done so quickly. I strongly recommend Carmichael! read more

My garage door started to malfunction last year, it would close 3/4 down and open back up. Then the spring broke. I googled garage door companies, called one (whose name doesn't deserve to be mentioned). They sent out a service guy, he sold me on a new opener and a garage door rebuild kit plus a new spring. Thinking that he knows what he is talking about I agreed to what he was selling me. Well $900.00 later, the very next day the door was still malfunctioning. I called the company and told them what was happening, so they sent out a service guy. He said the opener had to be adjusted then tried to give me an $86.00 service call bill. Let's just say he left without receiving any money from me. A year later the door is still malfunctioning, so I called Carmichael Overhead Door. Went to showroom and picked out new door. Paul came out and took one look at my existing door and knew what the problem was. The top panel was out of adjustment and hitting against the wood causing the door to open back up at that point. It had nothing to do with the opener or rollers as the previous door guy told me. I had asked if they can install new door on a Saturday, being that is my only free day. Paul told me not a problem, we have an installer that can do it on a Saturday. Paul called me with a install date and time, the installer showed up on time, he was very professional and did an amazing install. The price was very reasonable, we"ll say it was 1/2 of what it would have been if I went through Home Depot. I live in Carmichael and always like to support local business. I had this company Replace my Garage door when I purchased my home in 2003. I have had numerous problems with my door over the years and with little help from this company. My new door was installed by a young man new to the company and it took him all day, including several trips back to the shop for parts. I paid over $1000.00 for this door. Problems started soon after. It has jumped the track 3 times which they fixed once and the technician stated that the springs were not wound right. Then they blamed my opener and I had them install a new one which I paid for. It has broken 3 springs ,which they have replace none. and the last time I had it fixed the technician ( from another company) stated that the door was installed wrong and needed to be rehung. $800.00 He also stated that I should contact Carmichael overhead door and talk to the owner as he was a fair guy. Well, the guy that returned my call said that I should have complained sooner. He was to come out and look at it but never did. I have called twice since and the owner was to return my calls which he never did. My door has now been inoperable since May with a broken spring, while I save to have my door rehung (by another company). I know lots of people who have had garage doors for years with no problems. Don't they last forever? Not from this company. I am a contractor myself and would never allow a problem to fester like this and I do and will continue to warn unsuspecting consumers of this company. I usually only write reviews to recommend a business or service but in this case I am sharing our horrible customer service experience with Carmichael Overhead Door. Our garage door stopped working six days ago and I arranged an appointment for service on Monday for Wednesday. After SEVERAL calls by us to confirm a service person was still coming no one arrived to service the opener (both my husband and I kept juggling our work schedules based on their erroneous estimates of arrivals). This is a business based on customer service in a timely manner. Unfortunately this business failed on both accounts. I can't write about the quality of work since that never took place. After experiencing intermittent problems with our HomeLink and remoted openers, I contacted Carmichael Overhead Door (COD) for a fix. One of the first questions I asked the office staff was if they guaranteed their work. I was assured of this. My first service call was completed in a timely fashion and the technician was pleasant. After troubleshooting our opener, he suggested that we replace our wall button first to try and remedy the problem - part of the wall button had been damaged in a home reno project, and he suggested we try that as a solution first. No problem. We purchased a new wall button, willing to go through the motions to get this fixed since I was assured we would be "taken care of". Unfortunately, the intermittent problems persisted. I tried for the better part of two weeks to have someone from COD return to re-address the issue. After multiple calls to the office, even the office staff was surprised that no one had been in touch with me, I was finally contacted by a technician. I was very disappointed to discover that I would be charged half of a service call for them to return and resolve the issue they were unable to resolve on their first visit. I don't mind paying a fair price for parts and services rendered, but when it takes me nearly two weeks to have a call returned, and then to continue to pay service charge fees when promised we would be "taken care of", needless to say I'm left feeling under impressed. read more

Carmichael Overhead Door was recommended to me by a friend who used to be in the garage door business. I needed to have my garage door replaced, so I first called the office. After going through the phone system, my call was routed to a recorder to leave my information so that they could call me back. Did they call back? Uh-No! Well, I decided to give them another shot because anyone can make a mistake and not return a call. I call the office again, this time a nice woman on the phone took my information, told me the approximate cost, and scheduled someone to give me a written estimate today between 1 and 3 PM. As I write this, it is now 3:30 PM. No phone call from Carmichael Overhead Door. I called the office again (now for the third time). They don't even have me on the schedule. They have no idea why. My information was just lost. They are coming out to do an estimate within the hour. I guess I'll wait and see if they show up. It sounds like they have some real problems in managing the business. Based on other reviews, I can see I'm not the only one. I may update this review later if my experience improves, but so far you can say that I'm not impressed. - Update - The estimator did show up as promised. I got my estimate. They did call back by 5 PM as promised to schedule a day for installation. So far, so good. I'll update again after the installation... - Installation - The installation of my door was completed yesterday. Generally, everything went fine. The installer seemed to know what he was doing and installed the door without too much trouble. There were a couple of fit/finish issues that he tried to address. While it's not perfect, the door does seem to work fine. I was surprised that that tech couldn't give me a copy of the receipt when I paid him. He indicated that my 'receipt' would be my cancelled check. My issue is that I'd like a copy of the final estimate/work order that includes my signature. Price was good and I appreciated the fact that they recommended a double spring vs a single spring for my double garage door which would make it easier to lift if one of the springs goes out. I even asked them to check my other spring on my single garage which I would have replaced since it already has a "bend' in it, but he said it was fine and didn't need replacing yet. One of the lift cables on our one-car garage door broke recently. This place seemed to have good reviews, so I called them yesterday. They said they would send someone out today between ten and noon; he arrived about 10:30 and was polite and professional. He said they didn't work with the type of door we had (it used extension springs along the rails), but he could convert it to an overhead torsion-spring mechanism. He had to go back to the office for some more parts, but he was done before noon, and the entire repair cost $250 all included, and the door opens and closes smoothly. Had Carmichael overhead come out to my home in July. Chose the garage door, put a deposit down and scheduled for install a few days ago. Since I didn't hear from them during the week to confirm the day and time, I give them a call. When I was transferred and hung up on a few times, this should of been my inkling to what was to come for install. Finally the say, the door will arrive the day before install. Install day comes and they get to work. I step outside to take a look at progress and first panel is in. I immediately tell the installer it's the wrong door. They had a look of defeat. Can't stop now since i have no garage door. Installer says he will let the office know and take care of it. I follow up Monday and get the run around. Finally given a direct phone line to someone who I spoke with and places the order with the door a month prior. She had attitude and tells me she's working on it that's why she hasn't returned my call. I explain that this is nearly a $3000 garage door and no one thought to look at the door when it arrived at the shop. Silence. I explain I don't even get an "I'm so sorry, we are working to straighten this out and I assure you it will get resolved". I then ask how long will this take. I'm told another 3-4 weeks for the CORRECT door! No professionalism at all when taking calls or dealing with their mistake. read more

I explained that my garage door no longer closed because of user error (don't ask). They were able to set an appt for the next day and even showed up before the appt window because I had asked for "as early as possible". The problem was quickly fixed and I said that I had been considering replacing my 30 year old garage door. After hearing the door lift and close a few times, the technician (Ben?) said it sounded REALLY good and he recommended keeping it until it died. Now that's an honest company. Some friends told me about their experience this company, about how COD was able to fix instead of replace their garage door, and how COD didn't try to take advantage of their situation by just selling a new door. The appointment was scheduled for between 10 and 11 AM at 11 Am we get a call saying that they can't show up today but they will come out tomorrow.
