Its been a while since we ordered take out from Carmine's...now I remember why. Not only were the cheesesteaks we ordered $8.75, they had the nerve to charge EXTRA for fried onions. No other place I know of does this. I also mentioned to my wife how light the sandwich was on meat. I usually prefer light meat, but this was ridiculous for a $9 cheesesteak. This place used to be the best it was always a little expensive but worth the money but the last couple times I ordered the family got cheesesteaks and chicken cheesesteaks and there was hardly any meat in them. This place is pretty bad. I went here with my family last week while visiting my folks in Philly. The pizza and wings were ok. The salad was pretty good but Greek dressing was horrible. My stepfather's veal was a complete abortion. It had the texture of rubber and was completely unedible. The calamari tasted possessed and was over fried. I doubt my family will ever eat here again. My family is a regular at this place and we have been going there almost every week. Great food, pizza and great service where Cindy and her sister always take care of us. The place is really nice after they renovated a few years back. The beer selection is quite extensive with a decent selection of seasonals on draft. I had a coupon from this restaurant and there was no expiration date. I placed my order and told them I had a coupon. When I arrived, the manager said that he would not accept the coupon because it was an old one. I asked why he wouldn't accept when there is no expiration date on it. He was rude and just said that he wouldn't. If my family wasn't so hungry, I would have just did an about face and left without my order. I have not been back to this restaurant since and I have told many of my neighbors about this. One of my neighbors use to go there a lot to buy take out beer. We ordered through grub hub. The order got canceled. We called to see if they were still accepting orders and they said yes. They said it got canceled because they weren't delivering but they were still accepting orders. We ordered through their website. When I went to go pick it up, they told me they never received the order. My wife called and they told her the same thing. She pulled up the receipt and told them she had a charge on her credit card. They then told her that they already told me they canceled the grub hub order. She reminded them that we called and they said they were taking orders. They THEN said they didn't have the ingredients to make all of our order (which they supposedly "never received" so how did you know what ordered?) and we wouldn't be charged. There was no refund on our credit card. They didn't even apologize for not notifying us. We did everything right - we called ahead to make sure and paid online to avoid contact. I understand not having ingredients right now but you couldn't even call us?? They had our phone number for the order and never called to tell us of the issue. I was the one who convinced my husband to go here for dinner last night and I sure do feel like a heel. For $4+ the boys got a shake to split - which was tiny for that price. They were done their 1/2 cup of non-thick shake in a second. I had asked for chocolate milk but was told they dont' have chocolate milk - later we discovered it on the menu. My husband got a beer and I got a glass of wine. The glass was sticky around the rim with some kind of dark bronze colored drop of something on it...I asked for a paper cup and dumped my wine in there. Then we ordered - a piece of cheese pizza for our youngest, a tuna sandwich on rye for my other son, a gyro for my husband (with $3.75 added on greek salad) - and I got a turkey club. The pointy part of the pizza was too difficult for my six year old to eat because it was so soggy in grease. I ended up cutting it off and he only ate the top half. The tuna on rye came with lettuce even though my son said no lettuce. (minor really!) My club sandwich was okay - bread too thick for my taste - but minor. It was supposed to come with coleslaw, pickle and chips. I only got the coleslaw so I asked for the pickle and chips and I got chips...no pickle. My son didn't get a pickle either. I wasn't going to ask for the pickle for a second time so I let it go. My husband said his gyro wasn't bad. The salad though - I don't remember ever getting a greek salad and being asked what dressing. I thought there was a greek vinegar dressing that was standard - so he just asked for a balsamic vinaigrette - not sure that was right. The salad shared the plate with the fries and gyro - I thought it would come out first as a starter. I am sure he would have gotten more fries (which my hungry kids would have appreciated) - if he hadn't gotten that measly $3,75 salad. So we spent $50 on dinner and it was really upsetting. My family shops Carmines about every 3 weeks. We have for the past 5 years dealing with their typically rude behavior. Today however, is the straw that broke the camel's back. I ordered and picked up two of their average cheese steaks. My 80 year old mother then called and ordered the same. Ordered delivery pizza. Told that it would be arrive in 30 minutes. After 80 minutes I called about it. I was told that the pizza left the shop 15 minutes before. After another 15 minutes (we could literally run there in 1/2 hour), it arrived, ....you guessed it,...cold. Oh it was hot at one point, as the box was all wet. The pizza? I paid the most I have ever paid ($30 with the tip) for the worst pizza I have ever had. Never again.
