Love me some Carnegie Hall! On my most recent trip to NYC I went to Carnegie Hall and had a blast! I went with my good friend and we ended up taking the tour. It was about $15 for the tour with a college id. The tour was great and it was about an hour and a half. The tour took you on a history lesson of not only the Carnegie Hall but about Andrew Carnegie himself! The tour took you to the different balconies, to the stage, and to many different places. We had a great tour guide who did a wonderful job! We ended up also seeing the orchestra play here! The music is amazing and wonderful! Part of the reason the music is so good here is because of the steel that was used to build the hall. I would highly recommend the tour at Carnegie Hall and if you can get tickets to see a show do that as well! read more

Older venue. I normally book seats in the orchestra section but none were available. Had to book the balcony nose bleed section. I asked the usher if they had oxygen available but she did get my joke. Seats narrow and close to the seats in front of you. I could not have my legs facing forward because there was no room in front of me for my knees. Had I only been born less than 5 feet tall. I had to sit the whole performance with my legs spread open. A NYC and USA landmark. See a show here! Just for the experience alone! If you can afford better seats get them. This is an amazingly huge venue. However, the balcony is all that bad. It's perfect for chorus or orchestra performances. Arrive early as the Subway can tend to be congested and show do start on time. read more

Carnegie Hall is one of the most prestigious concert venues in the world. It was built in 1891 by philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. I had the privilege to see the performances by Kazakhstan's Astana and Almaty in the symphony orchestra section by main hall (Isaac Stern auditorium) on two different occasions. The hall had multi- level seatings that included two levels of box seats (also known as loge). The entire hall can accommodate up to 2,800 people. Despite its large size, the acoustic sound was simply amazing. This historic landmark's architectural design is timeless and elegant. I am indeed fortunate to have been able to experience a setting that many famous artists have performed before and during my time. Beautiful venue. You can get pretty cheap tickets from discount sites for different performances throughout the year. Some people really dress up for the night but most people just come dressed rather casually. I have been here multiple times and each time it did not disappoint! I cannot decide which section has the best view, though. I liked viewing from the balcony level but I also enjoyed the view from the orchestra level. I think most seats are great! One note: the staff here are extremely picky on NOT using your cellphone during the performance. There will be a staring contest if you pick up your phone again to take a photo or update your Facebook status during the performance. Put your phone away and enjoy the performance! read more

My grandparents back in the day saw Liza Minnelli at Carnegie Hall. I remember pouring over the playbook and saying, Someday I'll go to Carnegie Hall and see a great show there as well. This is my first time here after all those years, what a theater! Such an elegant venue, I couldn't help but notice all of the seats had plush velvet. And the ceilings! Very ornate with the detailed carvings. Here's my issue, were the people 120 years ago on average 5 foot tall?! My friggin' knees were squished, I couldn't get comfortable. Bars? Carnegie Hall has a coffee bar, wine bar and mixed drinks bar. And you wanna talk about classy?? My booth had *FREE* Ricola candies! I was eating these Herb throat things all night. I felt like I could scream in Carnegie Hall; REEEE COLAAAA (I also stuffed my pockets with a few more candies ;) ) I did notice the patrons. I know your seeing a musical guest, do you have to go out to a NYC cultural event with sneakers and a tee shirt that has words on it?? I saw a few people dressed like slobs, SMDH. Breathtaking experience to say the least. As many times I have wanted to see the Philadelphia Orchestra in Philadelphia, I am very happy to have seen and heard them in the historical and beautiful Carnegie Hall. The acoustics are incredible. I did have a front row balcony seat. It required me to sit forward in my seat because my view was blocked by the balcony rail. Other than that the staff is very nice and helpful. Greater with and smile and as the theater was closing they were still smiling. Looking forward to returning to support something else. read more

Third time at Carniege Hall. The history is palpable, the culture is abundant, the ushers are fantastic. I learn something everytime I go. The ONLY reason I give it 4 stars instead of five is that tall people, which I am one, cant fit in the seats. It's actually unbearable towards the end of any show. That's really not there fault, it's just uncomfortable for me. Tonight we saw the New York String Orchestra. It was fantastic! I love the crowd control by the ushers, some people are super rude and pull their phones up and if you've ever really been to Carniege you know how annoying that really is. Anyway, what a great place! If you havent been, even if you really arent to into classic or other types of shows I would still recommend getting yourself some culture, learn something new!!!! read more

"How do I get to Carnegie Hall?" This is New York's icon for musicians and live band orchestras. This venue has a lot of rooms where multiple events can occur simultaneously. Acoustics and sound are great to emit a medley of musical instruments. Guests can be registered on their mailing list for news and receive a calendar of events. Occassionally Carnegie Hall does host readings such as J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter" and a open forum for questions & answers to her famous book series. They do not have stadium style seating. They also do not have binoculars for purchase as guests have to struggle to see the stage. It's definitely a tourist trap. read more

Our view of the performance was completely blocked by the piano. I tried to find someone to help at the theater but they were rude and unhelpful. I wrote an email in which Ramiro responded and blamed me for my seat choice. He said they are fully aware that "The stage in Stern Auditorium is elevated, and the first five rows of seats on the Parquet are below the stage level." He said that I should have known better and called in advance to "speak to one of our agents." He offered for us to come back to see another show in the next ten months knowing that I don't live in NYC. My advice is if you are going to "see" a show at Carnegie Hall and you want to actually "see" the show call 212-247-7800 and talk to their rude staff about where to sit. Or better yet choose a different iconic NYC venue where they don't mistreat their customers. read more

With the advent of congestion pricing and city institutions that are destroying anything related to beauty, many working-class individuals will not be able to participate in cultural events that New York City has been renowned for throughout the decades. Yesterday, I approached the box office and if I never get tickets again, Joe made this experience memorable. As always, he is honest, transparent and tries his best to ensure you are well-informed before making a decision regarding seating locations to meet the physical needs of the party you are taking to the venerable hall. It dawned on me that these macro policies will destroy the livelihood of persons whose work ethic and invaluable societal function contributes to preserve melodies, and artforms of the first caliber. Be it via Max Raabe and the Palast Orchester, the Philadelphia Orchestra, or listening to classic recordings of Belafonte, Arrau, Rubinstein or Sinatra, contemporary society does not seem to enjoy the cornucopia of well-crafted melodies which grace both popular and classical genres. My 8yr old daughter has a piano recital Tuesday, July 5th, 2022 . We are coming in from Houston , Texas. Flights booked, hotel booked, and a $600 nonrefundable deposit put down last year . Yes, we know/knew about New York's strict Covid-19 rules and were very happy when we heard that all mask and vaccine mandates had been lifted . This is when we decided to actually book our flights and hotels. All this to say we are very saddened and upset that we are just getting a text from my daughter's music school asking for copies and proof of our vaccinations to send to Carnegie Hall , or else we could not enter and my daughter could not perform . We are very confused that we are just now being informed that the Hall will still be maintaining a vaccine mandate . Yes we can blame the music school for such a late "re-notice" of the COVID-19 restrictions that still stand for Carnegie Hall , but we also would just like to say CARNEGIE HALL , Y'all Suck! Y'all should really consider following your states mandates as people all around the world are not vaccinated and dream of attending your facilities to watch their children perform :( read more

A historic staple. If you can't perform here, come see a concert. It has the same issues as any performance hall (small seats, sometimes pricy tickets) but I think it would be a waste to write it off. As a performer, I will say it was the most comfortable venue I've performed in for a long time. Typically I'm sweating through my clothes about to pass out. When they let you take pictures, you whip out your phone and take as many as you can. It's overwhelming at first. Take it all in. The gift shop is alarmingly small (five people is a crowd) but has a lot of wonderful items. Try to visit early in the day and definitely don't wait until a concert. read more

Went here for The Great Hasan Minhaj show recently and I love how it was decorated as in the interior was amazing. The room where he performed was great and they had restrooms downstairs and a small cafe and coffee is $5 that too you can't take out have to finish it up and I had to throw it which was upsetting. So I like Madison square garden better when it comes to food and drinks. The show was great and most of all the seating arrangements were very different from the rest of the other halls. read more

Ok the only reason why this place gets 4 stars is because the seats are so darn tight. I have never sat in seat where I almost felt my thighs were hitting upon the sides of the chair-not even on the worst of airplanes. The hall is absolutely gorgeous but there are a bunch of stairs so get ready. Also you really have to watch where and how you are walking I can imagine many people getting hurt and if you trip and fall it will not be pleasant. The staff is very attentive and will eye you like a hawk if you even to attempt to look at your phone during a performance (I tried to simply read a text message but they were headed for me). They warn you not to take photos or videos of any sort when the performance begins. We watched the "Vienna Boys Choir" they were amazing and we sat in the Balcony, Row C seats 52-60 (they are even numbered) and these are obstructed view seats. Now let me explain, first these tickets were only $10.00 so hey why not? Second, we were there to listen to the vocals of this choir and really have no clue how these boys look like and really don't care because again we are hear to listen not so much watch them perform-they were amazing. Third, even though it says obstructed, you can move up a bit in your seat and see a little more than half the stage but let me warn you if you are here to watch your idol perform, then you may want to choose something centered and more up front lower level. For the show that we choose, these seats were perfect. Additionally, it was our first time at Carnegie Hall so now we have a good idea where to sit next time we attend a concert. read more

Before going to the concert, my friend and I dined at Weill Cafe at Carnegie Hall, Theater Dining. The four course dinner food presentation was artfully done. The food tasted delicious. The service was friendly and hospitable. Everything was done harmoniously with a smile in a timely manner. It had a warm welcoming and upbeat atmosphere. The Manager Chris Johnson made this a memorable experience with his personal attention to every guest. The same with his hospitality team . . . wonderful experience. I'm not really a big fan of Carnegie hall, yet every time I came for shows, I somehow loved the show, that I was forced to love Carnegie hall at the same time. Today my cousin and I visited for the Piaf show, that was in memorial of the renown French singer Edith Piaf. With La Vie en Rose being my favorite song, I deeply enjoyed myself during the performance. Anne the performer was highly skillful and performed in a touchy way. This is one of those places where I'm never inclined to visit on my own but would be more than happy to take a friend or family member who's visiting from out of town. My mom and I came into the city once when I was younger to partake in the famous city culture - well, I just about had enough of culture about twenty minutes into the performance and started whining for food (young me definitely knew what was up). My mom being the public-attention-adverse Asian parent that she was and the concert's guidelines about food being much more lax stuffed us into a coat closet with some street meat until I finally shut up. But anyway, 1) the acoustics here are amazing and 2) the performances are truly spectacular. Having plodded through several years of classical piano training and hating about 99% of it, I wouldn't say I'm the biggest fan of classical music but I do like watching people perform. Especially pianists. Something about beautiful hands. Cough. Ahem. My cousin and I took in a performance of "The Music of the Future," with pieces from Brahms, Chopin, and Bach. The time went by very quickly. We were somewhere on the second tier and had a nice view of the stage. One word about dress: I saw everything from fancy fur stoles to ripped jeans and flip flops, with most of the audience in neat business/professional clothes. I don't believe there's a formal dress code but I recommend a nice outfit so you don't feel uncomfortably casual. Another about applause: generally, you save any applause for the end of a piece, not in an especially thrilling part in the middle. Don't be me and be so enthralled by a portion that you start clapping enthusiastically because you will be shushed. read more

Absolutely Beautiful venue! From the architecture on the outside to the decor on the inside. You definitely want to be well dressed when you come here. They have managed to take such good care of the inside, everything looked perfect, super clean. It totally made sense to me as to why we couldn't bring our drinks back to our seats. Everyone was pleasant. The only thing I could complain about is that you're pretty close between rows so if you have long legs you might feel a little cramped. Came here for a Night of Inspiration, hosted by Ray Chew and his lovely wife. It was my first time being here and you could feel the history when you walked into the main theater. The show was wonderful and each performance was show stopping. The seats were very comfortable. The acoustics were not bad. The building has gone through some renovations and after the concert I attended a cocktail party in a glass walled rooftop. It was quite nice. If you ever get a chance to attend a show here, do it. This is a classy venue and respect must be paid. Our trip to New York revolved around seeing a symphony performance in this hall. It was everything I hoped for and more. Although, it would have been even better if I purchased tickets in one of the boxes. Not only do they provide a wonderful view of the stage and performers, but they have individual coat closets. And well, the mind wanders... We chose less expensive seats in the Dress Circle and fortunately our view was not obstructed by any of the pillars on that level. I think perusing the seating chart before you buy is incredibly important at this venue. One of the things that sets Carnegie Hall apart is the level of performers they are able to attract. The performance that we saw featured Yo-Yo Ma in addition to the symphony, a choir and opera singers. At intermission, we went down to the stage and visited with my cousin who is a member of the symphony. It is really stunning to take in the hall from that vantage point. At the end of the performance we wanted to poke our heads in again and the ushers shooed us out. They rush you out of the building like cattle, so if you want to take an informal tour, make sure you do that early in the evening. No matter where you sit, I recommend you stop by the first or second tier box levels. You'll get a peek into those sexy boxes, see photos of past performers line the halls and you can pick up a Riccola from one of the dispensers. Believe me, you don't want to cough or have your cell phone go off during a performance. It would ruin the romance. read more

Carnegie Hall is New York legacy, icon and staple in which I had the honor of attending an amazing show there last night. The show was 5 stars and most likely would have been 5 stars anywhere (Preservation Hall Jazz Band... check 'em out) but, the sheer fact it was at Carnegie Hall blew my mind. The acoustics were amazing, and I was literally the last seat, in the last row in the balcony. I got like 12 nosebleeds. That didn't stop me from hearing the amazing quality of music taking over. The seats are tight, my man is short so he had no worries but, homeboy next to me was definitely a little uncomfortable for the 2 hour seating. However, the seats are red velvet plush and comfortable. I am not sure if there is an elevator but, we hiked up the 4-5 flights of stairs and I was a little out of breath when I got to my seat so, I can only imagine some other people may have been a bit gruntled. As this was some New Orleans jazz people were standing in their seats, heading to the balcony to shake their booties to the sweet tunes from the brass. It was a sight to see. As a person who has been to quite a few shows and plays in theaters all over the city, Carnegie Hall may have been the cherry on my theater sundae. I look forward to the next opportunity where I can shake my little moneymaker all over Carnegie Hall. read more

What an institution! The sound is great in this hall. I came to listen to Yo Yo Ma and Emanuel Ax perform the Beethoven Cello Sonatas. There is a lot of history here and the greatest artists come through here. Now, why not 5 stars? A couple issues with the space. If you're sitting on the sides of the balcony level, you really cannot see the stage well. In fact, you may not be able to see anything based on the shape of the hall, which is a shame. Another issue is the accessibility. When it's concert time, millions of people pile into this hall and try to make their way upstairs. There is limited access to the elevator, so the line is literally out the door. The stairs are to the sides, but those are very very crowded too. During intermission, there is a small stand for snacks and coffee, but the lines are so long by the time you get through it, it's time to get seated again. Too bad! read more

Fair warning.. being in the balcony, it was designed quite a while ago, so you may find it -very- tight. I mean very. I'm not a big person, and neither were my friends, and anyone taller than 65" will probably have issues with the leg room up there. That being said, lovely place. Through the years, whenever I go to Carnegie Hall, I am reminded that there is much beauty that I need to experience and re-experience. This year it was Musica Sacra's performance of Handel's Messiah. Musica Sacra was founded by conductor Richard Westenburg and it delivers professional choral performances of utmost caliber. We secured our orchestra tickets early so that our seats are right up front,dead center. In addition to the excellent lighting, one of the great things about Carnegie Hall is that the seats and the floor elevation are so designed that even if the person in front of you is tall, you can still see the stage. Also, the restrooms have quite a number of stalls so it doesn't get too crowded and the line goes quickly. Messiah is dubbed as the most famous oratorio written and it is quite astounding that since its creation in 1741, its beauty continues to captivate people all over the world. Although I have seen it a handful of times before, something about this night just grabbed me. This performance at Carnegie Hall had the choir of St. John's the Divine. There were several times that I closed my eyes to listen especially at Leslie Fagan's lyric soprano because it was mind-blowing. No, I didn't fall asleep as I made sure that I took a nap and had an espresso before the show. :) By the way, Kevin Deas' bass evoked the loudest applause. Lastly, Kent Tritle was fascinating to watch as he conducted because his hands seemed so gentle and yet commanding and clear in communicating with the orchestra. It just reminded me that strength and power do not necessarily exclude gentleness. :) Catch a performance of Handel's Messiah. It would just be the best decision you've ever made. :) read more

Funny, I thought there would be more reviews of this place. After all, it is pretty famous. I am only the 79th person to review it. I am pretty surprised! OK, yes this is a NYC staple. If you live here, you must go experience it. If you want to impress a date, this is your spot. I have been here a few times and each time I come here, I fall in love all over again. I love the soft lightness you feel here, no matter where you are sitting. The acoustics are just absolutely amazing here. I came here Saturday night to hear Orpheus Chamber Orchestra with soloist Jean-Yves Thibaudet. What a treat! My only gripe is the lines for the female bathroom. It always takes the whole intermission time to go. Overall, an amazing experience. You must do this venue when in NYC! read more

How could someone not give Carnegie Hall 5 stars? It's perfection... I have seen so many performances here and I have tried to find flaws or ways of making Carnegie Hall better but have failed each time (fine maybe cheaper refreshments but that's everywhere). The private booths up top are worth the splurge, something about looking at everyone below you that really gives you a sense of accomplishment in life... ahh the little things in life.
