It had been ages since we last dined at Carnegie's Dining Car. In the distant past, although the food was good, we became exasperated by far too slow service, and so stopped patronizing this place. But, after two changes of management, I deemed it appropriate to come in for a second look. This time service was pretty fast and efficient, and the food was good but definitely not great. Even though the train car had a velvet rope in front of it, and no one was inside, Diane asked to be seated in a booth, and we were surprised when the hostess walked us past several tables in the cavernous dining room, removed the velvet barrier before the train car, and seated us inside the actual dining car itself. A good start! Even though a bowl of New England Clam Chowder was the most watery clam chowder I have ever had, I have to admit that it tasted fairly good, and contained enough clams to offset the thin but tasty broth. A rather basic Dinner Salad had a thin French Dressing overlaying it, and there was not much of a salad to consume. A Dinner Roll was cold, and Coleslaw creamy. My entree consisted of a good Country Fried Steak accompanied by steamed carrots, cauliflower, and broccoli, along with Mashed Potatoes topped by a pretty good but a bit gummy Country Gravy. Went to Laughlin for the weekend and stayed at the Caesars Tropicana Hotel. We were skeptical about the Tropicana. After we arrived it was dinner time so we went to Carnegies Cafe in the hotel. The room is large with plenty of tables. Standard cafe style chairs and table. We were sat promptly and our drink orders were taken and delivered. I asked the server for suggestions and she recommended the chicken which I ordered. My wife got a club sandwich. Food and service was good. The next morning we went back to Carnegies Cafe for breakfast. I ordered the chicken fried steak and my wife got a ham and cheese omelet. Our server SHERLEE was EXCELLENT. She was working and taking orders bussing tables. I asked her if she owned the restaurant. She said no why did I ask. I said because her approach to the job was like she was the owner- caring about everything going on in the restaurant. She was very attentive to all of her customers. The food was good and met standard cafe type food. But SHERLEE made the dining experience very pleasant. read more

I love pork chops so since I'm staying at the Tropicana I thought I'd try their chops for dinner. BIG mistake. The waitress was horrible (glasses, blondish hair)i visited on a Monday around 4pm. Carnegie's Diner Car (Laughlin, NV - Inside the Tropicana Express) Carnegie's Diner Car is 24 hours, the food is inexpensive, and there's a lot of options. I had their Meat Lover's Omelet, which is stuffed with sausage, ham, bacon, and cheese. The omelet also came with a side of toast and hash browns. For less than $10, it wasn't bad horrible. My omelet served its purpose. I recommend Carnegie's if you're already staying at the Trop. But don't expect the best meal ever. Overall, the food is just average. Service is on the slow side. Even with the restaurant half empty, it took some time to be seated, even longer for my order to be taken, and an eternity for my food to finally arrive. When we got the food I took a bite of the Omelette it was just disgusting. I took a bite of the hash brown and it was disgusting and tasted like Old oil . My wife said her steak actually tasted like meat had gone bad. When it comes to my son, he will eat anything but he could not eat this food either. My daughter-in-law ate half of her French toast gave the bacon to my wife because she was hungry. My wife has fasting hypoglycemia and has to eat or she will actually pass out, she had to eat something to avoid the drop in her blood sugar. when the waiter came by and asked how we were doing I said I can't eat this shit and she walked away. The manager came out and asked us what was wrong, and I said this was horrible no one can eat it. I asked her to take a bite she wouldn't why not then she proceeded to give us a discount on food that was sitting on the table that came to $82 and gave us a $48 bill. I said I was not paying for food I could not eat. I asked the blonde , don't know her name but there's a photo of her, if there was a manager above her and she said no I would have to call her I said can you she went in the back and another woman came out that was the manager above her, but she wasn't there humm besides rotten food they were liars , rude , and from reading other reviews after the fact this must be a normal occurrence. After arguing with them for awhile I ended up paying them for the food it wasn't worth it $38 after wasting two hours at this restaurant , if I had to do it again I would have walked out and not paid. they should've just told us to leave because they know their food is that bad if they won't put it in their mouth how do they expect you to eat it oh and by the way please see the photos as you will see a fly on the plate this is good practice and there are also pictures of the two managers that we dealt with . This place has really good late night food. Over the course of four nights I had many good sandwiches. They have a good choice of breads. The marble rye is fabulous. The service is great, the food is great. Personally I think the late-night menu has too many choices. Maybe it was the alcohol. They have breakfast choices and sandwiches and salads. You can eat there or you can take it to your room. When I got to my room they had put everything I needed in the bag for me. They lose salad is not homemade. It tastes like Reser's or something, lots of corn syrup. It's gross. The hotel has a kitchen that serves an Italian restaurant, a Mexican restaurant, a high-end Steakhouse, a Deli/Bakery; I don't understand why they can't make their own potato salad . Pancakes tasted like and resembled the frozen ones from the store; dry, crispy and no flavor.. The sausage they serve now are disgusting, fat filled, chewy lard logs! Eggs were rubbery and cold. The waitresses were very kind and friendly, except for the guy he seemed like he was in a bad mood or in a rush. I noticed we weren't the only ones that had a problem with the guy as I over heard the couple sitting next to us. They left a tip for the woman but didn't want the man to have it. Either way I assume they have to split the tips. The utensils were pretty dirty but the restaurant seemed clean. The food was ok, I didn't expect a 2 and a half star hotel to have a five star restaurant. Service was great overall. They gave us candy towards the end. read more

Had $10 food credit for choosing Tropicana hotel, so I decided to use it here my dinner on the last night of my stay. Decided to have New York steak ($18) which was supposed to come with dinner salad and rolls. Salad was the highlight as it was fresh and served cold. Never saw the dinner roll. You have a choice in how you want your steak done. You can have it seasoned or marinated. I chose the seasoned and it was just okay. For $18 steak at a diner, it was rather thin and small. Getting back to my dinner roll, I asked my waitress, as she was clearing the table, if my steak came with dinner roll? She answered yes as she started laughing and asked if I wanted them now. Worst food ever!!! It tasted like a TV dinner that was microwaved. I had the aunties tilapia and hubby had the smoked pork shoulder . First the tilapia was weird it was seared they said and breaded but when I cut into it it's watery and undercooked. I tried eating it but it left a bad taste in my mouth. Hubby had the pork. It looks weird and taste weird. It looks like it was boiled and then microwaved because it was tough. I tasted it and it doesn't taste like smoked. It has a consistency of boiled pork. The waitress was kept on saying she will Call the manager so we don't have to pay for it... I guess that was nice of her but we were in a hurry coz almost regular restaurants are closing at 8 and it was 7 already. We went here many times over the years even before Trop took over. Late at night the place always looked close and we passed a few times thinking it was. The food is ok nothing to write home about and service has never been great. To us it is more diner type food and great if your staying here. When the place has a few customers they act like they are swamped. If your in need of a place we would say eat here but there are many other places to go. If we are back in town and we stay at trop we may go for breakfast but there is so many other choices to go to even within walking distance that this would be our last choice. Let me start by saying a two star review was generous of me. When we arrived the place wasn't very busy at all. It took us a while to be seated. Once seated the waiter seemed more interested in the music playing in the background then actually assisting us. When he finally took our order he seemed very lost and inexperienced in dealing with large groups. I'm from the service industry and I can understand that large groups can be a bit overwhelming but you have to take control. Our order literally took 45+ minutes to come out to us. Some of our food was cold and some was warm. None of our meals were hot. I had a steak and it was the weirdest steak I've ever had. I really regret not taking a pic of it. It looked like a very weirdly filet steak until I took a fork to it. Only to find out it was individual pieces of meat. Almost like carne asada bunched together to look like a steak. I've never seen anything like it. The food was overall bland and had a solid resemblance of hospital diner food. Ate breakfast here while in town for the Laughlin marathon. Ordered the basic Sunrise Breakfast with coffee and it was pretty much exactly what I expected. Nothing fancy or innovative (which is what I reserve my 5* ratings for) but definitely sufficient for what I needed. I didn't like the smoke from the casino, a bit off-putting while eating breakfast, but it IS inside the casino so what else did I expect, right? Service was friendly and food came out quickly. I had some work to do on my laptop and they were kind enough to accomodate my request for a table next to a wall outlet. For nice, fast service and decent food, you get 4* from me! read more

Very limited menu, came for dinner last night, sat quickly and served quickly that's why it even gets 1 Star. Out of a few items, ordered a club house sandwich, toast was super thin, bacon was overcooked, fries were swimming in grease on the plate, clearly not drained well or at all. Should have known better but went again for breakfast, ordered an egg white Denver omelette with wheat toast, took forever to come out and there were only 3 other tables. Eventually arrived, again so much grease and oil everywhere, I had to dab the inside of my omelette to get the grease off, but the omelette pan must of been swimming in oil cause it was all under the omelette and hash browns were so greasy too. Toast was drenched in butter it had actually soaked through to the outside! Overall gross breakfast, plus everything is way overpriced. This was not a good experience. I believe the name is now just Carnegie's inside of the Tropicana Laughlin, NV. We went to the Tropicana for one of only a small handful of live music performances for New Year's Eve celebrations in the area. Hungry, we had opted for a more diverse menu and location rather than travel a block or two away for something else. Not experts in the area really make it a tough choice from available internet resources. Wrong choice . . . big time. I'll cut to the nitty gritty. This is the hotel's cafe and the room service kitchen. As we sat for a few moments we began to see service carts of food stacked in the stainless plate domes as they came from the kitchen. We began to discount available reasons due to many of the servers including ours was probably better off as a greeter or maybe an accountant. Yes I understand the labor pool is rather shallow in the areas of Laughlin and Bull Head City just across the river in Arizona; but YIKES! Our server was very sweet, but old and explained to us that the orders we placed were very popular. Unfortunately two of the four plates would not even be acceptable if I was to have received them at my room. They were downright nasty including the frozen or canned broccoli that had the exact texture of baby food. Many items on the other two plates were unacceptable like the cold (room temperature) French fries (nasty) on one of the plates. I don't want to go to in-depth here cause I'm doing this on my cell phone: but as I was leaving I noticed the name tag of one of the staff. It said, "F and B Manager", do I decided to let her know if our displeasure outside of the food items that were removed from or bill. She was non reactive, no facial expression and absolutely not even close to having an apology, so I walked away from her. Bad bad bad!!! Service is wonderful! Best staff I've met in the casinos around here, and that is saying a lot, as I've had a lot of great servers on my long visit to this area. Food isn't bad, but it can be pretty hit or miss. Depends what you like or in the mood for. Standard diner fare open 24hrs, which is always great when you sleep all day and work nights. Soups were great. Scrambled protein omelet wasn't bad for what it was. Delicious gravy on fluffy biscuits. Hard ass waffle, tastes like cardboard, with ok strawberries, sickly sweet syrup, and cool whip. It is what it is. No hard feelings. May or may not be back a fourth time. read more

After our drive from Vegas, we always eat at Carnegie's. Tonight it was not on point. Our server has only been to our table twice. Once to take our order and a second time to bring our food. As I am writing this, we are waiting impatiently for her to recognize us so we can get our check. When our food finally did come, you could tell that it had been sitting under the heat lamp for a long time. The Nachos were a blob of everything melted together and cold. When the burgers came they were cold! So unhappy with this visit this time. I would mention the servers name, but she was never at the table long enough for me to look at her name tag. Jessica is the cutest so sweet she made sure to make sure we were good and taken care of 3 different times. the only woman that seemed angry at the world was a woman with white hair she wasn't in uniform and I seen her 4 of the times I went and she had a smart remark each time. she seemed to be management but maybe someone like Jessica a sweet girl not whiling to let people stand in when she can obviously help us. it was like she was in a click coming in and out the doors with two there employees while Jessica took orders and handed out orders. Had lunch at this café yesterday while waiting for bingo at the Tropicana in Laughlin, NV. A friend and I decided to share the nachos which were really good. Lots of meat beans and other toppings. We both ate till we were about to bust and then played bingo. After which we went home to have some tums (jalapeno's). The service was good; they followed covid precautions; the food came fast and payment was easy! Would recommend this one to others! read more
